Pelosi response to Bachmann claim SCOTUS ‘can’t undo holy word of God’: ‘Who cares?’ [video]

Why should anybody expect someone who claims to be a practicing Catholic to respond in any greater detail? We seem to have found more “sacred ground” on which the deeply religious Pelosi is too respectful to tread, and plenty of tweeters ate it up:

In some circles, refusing to answer a question or offer any response other than dismissiveness is considered a winning argument.

Video:

“Who cares?” Pelosi offers similar responses when asked about the national debt and runaway government spending.

  • Blake Waymire

Is anyone surprised? I kinda figured Pelosi had already abandoned Catholicism anyway (except when it’s politically convenient, of course!)

    • Jeremy

Yeah she pissed on her faith years ago if she everyone had any to begin with.

      • detroit19

        She is NO Catholic!

    • detroit19

She’s as Catholic as Abdulh Rahman, Osama Bin Laden and all of the other moderate ‘religion of peace’ Muslims,

  • NixTyranny

As Speaker, Pelosi pretty much said the same thing to Americans, the overwhelming majority of whom were against Obamacare.

She’s not been denied communion yet has she? If so…why the heck not! 😛

Nancy Pelosi: ‘Who cares what GOD says?’

Well, I for one certainly do – and I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that more people probably care what GOD has to say than care what Nancy Pelosi has to say.

    • $4356589

Maybe you should move to another country, where religion dictates government and society. Because that’s not how we roll in the USA. Our elected officials SHOULDN’T care what “God” or any other deity says; they’re in violation of the Constitution if they do.

      • Spinmamma

Elected officials are in violation of the Constitution if they care what God says? Who knew?

      • Emily B

Really? Care to inform us where exactly it says that in the Constitution??

      • LinTaylor

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”

That’s ALL the Constitution says vis-a-vi religion. It doesn’t say anything about faith-based governance, just about establishing a state religion or keeping people from practicing.

      • grais

Maybe you should have someone explain the Constitution to you.

        • TocksNedlog

You’ll need some crayons, construction paper and the rounded scissors to avoid cuts to the hands.

Which is why when they’re sworn in they place their hand upon a Bible and say “I solemnly swear to completely disregard everything that is written in this book upon which I am solemnly swearing.”

        • $4356589

Really? Is it always a Bible?

          • TocksNedlog

Let’s try this: when you write, “Our elected officials SHOULDN’T care what ‘God’ or any other deity says; they’re in violation of the Constitution if they do,” is that REALLY how you interpret the Constitution?

          • Debra Blouin

No. Some Christians believe their faith teaches them that swearing on a book is a violation of that faith “let your yes be yes”
Other people of other faiths, eg. Judaism, affirm their oath with hand over heart. But again, it is not in a rejection of divine authority or absent an abiding faith, but in deference to that faith.

    • Sons Thunder

      Michelle Bachmann is God?

      • Robot F. Kennedy

Haha, SERIOUSLY the first question that ran through my mind as I read Twitchy’s iditotic post/ BoscoBolt’s self-righteous comment.

        • TocksNedlog

Can’t blame Twitchy for Pelosi’s idiotic statement.

          #DontShootTheMessenger

          • v1cious

It’s idiotic to not care what Michele Bachmann thinks? I guess ignorance is bliss.

          • TocksNedlog

Which part of “Don’t shoot the messenger” are you stuck on?
It’s IDIOTIC for Pelosi to belittle as meaningless the tenets of her own chosen faith.

      • v1cious

        About time someone said it.

    • Bathing Suit Area

God does not write US law or legal decisions.

      • TocksNedlog

        That’s becoming increasingly apparent.

      • Debra Blouin

I have to say Amen to that; what with Roe v Wade, and other atrocious legal blights on our culture.

    • v1cious

Correction: “Who cares what BACHMANN says?”. No one takes this loon seriously any more.

      • TocksNedlog

Why? Because all she does is spew ad homs? Oh wait, that’s you!

  • Dragomance

Wow,Hillary asks a bunch of Senators what difference does it make in regards to 4 dead Americans, now Pelosi asking who cares about the word of God.I dunno where they learned to be so vile and uncaring, but I truly hope Hillary’s comment bites her in her behind in 2016 and that Pelosi retires.

  • Billie Slash

Pelosi will be in for a shock when she gets to the Pearly Gate.

    • SteevK

Your childish/sexist comment aside, I’d say 99% of the posters here will be quite surprised, when they get to Heaven – especially as they get booted to Hell for their lives of hatred and bigotry!

      BTW, Jesus was a liberal… AND a Jew…

      • Billie Slash

Oh snap!! Its the Politically Correct Speech Police!!
Listen pal, your ignorance of the Christian faith is only exceeded by your slavish devotion and promotion of liberal ideology. As if the Son of God needed a left-wing, baby-killing, America-hating bonehead like you to defend him!!
Now shut up and go away.

  • Emily B

    She is pure evil.

  • $30423294

It’s time we call out these politicians who hide behind the Catholic faith while subverting it. Well done article here:

    http://catholicstand.com/keep-your-catholicism-a-secret/

They are not allowed to subvert dogma.

    • Sons Thunder

Do you really mean ‘all’ or just the Democrats? Catholic dogma consists of more than stances on abortion and homosexuality.

      • $30423294

        Totally fair question.

If she said that salvation depended on works alone, she would be a heretic.

        She hasn’t said that.

Of course some well meaning democrats support Catholic doctrine such as subsidiarity (direct charity to those in need), access to a fair living wage, opposition to Guantanemo prison rules of boundless detention without charges filed,, desirability of universal health care for all citixzens, desirability of economic fairness, etc. But why in the world would they embrace these moral rights, yet turn around and adopt a doctrine in direct and irreconcilable deviation from Catholic doctrine, i.e., abortion?

To support abortion in any form says that abortion is not intrinsically evil; i.e., that there are “mitigating circumstances.” This is directly in contrast to Catholic dogma which holds that abortion is intrinsically evil.

It’s like saying, yeah I’m a physicist but I don’t believe in entropy. Your disagreement, no matter what else you assent to, rules you out from the community of scholars or believers.

I bet you are surprised at the arch liberal positions I’ve taken here. Catholic Social Doctrine is neither conservative nor liberal. It is the third way.

I invite you to explore it.

In any event, cockroach Pelosi openly embraces dogma what excludes her from the heart of Catholicism.

The same holds for all republicans who openly support an intrinsic evil such as abortion. And yes, I do question republicans — such as libertarians — who support an economic model of the survival of the fittest. Putting the profit motive above the dignity of the human person is itself a grave evil and I condemn it whether committed by a democrat or a libertarian republican.

If they are anti-abortion and tone-deaf to a fair wage, right to health care, and other civil liberties, then yes these republicans are in deep turmoil as well.

        • Sons Thunder

I enjoyed your comment and, because I was raised in a Catholic community, am not surprised at your ‘liberal’ positions. You claim the “cockroach Pelose openly embraces dogma that excludes her from the heart of Catholicism.” Wouldn’t support of the death penalty (or voting for politicians who support the practice) also exclude one from the heart of Catholicism? I am not trying to be snide. You gave me a thoughtful, honest answer and I am curious to learn a bit more if you are willing.

          • TracyJean

No, because the Catholic Church recognizes that there are times when the death penalty may be moral and just.

“In Catholic teaching the state has the recourse to impose the death
penalty upon criminals convicted of heinous crimes if this ultimate
sanction is the only available means to protect society from a grave threat to human life.” – this is direct from the USCCB website.

          • Sons Thunder

“if this ultimate sanction is the ONLY available means to protect society from a grave threat to human life.” I am aware of this exception but it doesn’t apply to the situation in the U.S.

          • TocksNedlog

Thank you for confirming that the Catholic Church doesn’t run any of the state governments in the U.S.

          • Sons Thunder

Thank you for the non sequitur.

While I would agree that she is right not to care about what an imaginary being says, maybe she also believes in that imaginary being and cares what “God” thinks, but she doesn’t care what some obnoxious bible-thumper thinks? Just a thought. But keep up the tears of impotent rage, they taste so good.

People here seem surprised to find out Nancy Pelosi isn’t a pastor, the Supreme Court isn’t a house of worship and America isn’t a theocracy.
