Sen. Lindsey Graham: $20 billion in new patrol agents ‘will secure the border’

On Tuesday, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) voted against Sen. John Thune’s amendment to the Gang of Eight’s immigration bill, which would have required the federal government to complete half of the 700-mile fence it was directed to build before granting legal status to illegal immigrants. Is it possible Graham had simply come to his senses and was holding out for another amendment that would require the whole fence to be built?

Of course not. Graham instead threw his support behind today’s Corker-Hoeven amendment, which would authorize the hiring of 20,000 more border security agents. That, Graham tweeted, would secure the border — something the 20,000 current agents haven’t been able to do with that whopping 40 miles of fence that’s been completed so far.

We don’t get it, but Graham claims he does.

Is it worth pointing out that the government hasn’t managed to find a way yet to pay for a handful of White House tour guides?

No, not many are buying it.

  • BoscoBolt

Yeah, this is really believable coming from a long time proponent of OPEN BORDERS like Graham. And, anyway, hiring 20,000 new border patrol agents won’t secure the border, because, with obama in office (or later on with Hillary or Rubio in the White House), their main duties will be to hand out EBT cards, sign people up for obamacare and register democrat voters.

  • Gloves Donahue, Jr.

Let’s tear down all fences, Lindsey.

    Who needs them?

Let’s start with the fence around the White House.

    • SDN

Start with the fence around Lindsey’s house….

  • FFlintstone

Current Border Patrol agents aren’t being permitted to do their jobs. What difference is more agents going to make? Illegals that BP catches can’t be deported because of Obama and Napolitano. Janet Napolitano has veto power over all BP.

This is the most absurd thing Graham has done yet. How about just letting current Border Patrol agents do their job (catching and deporting illegals) and build a fence. Why is building a fence before amensty so unreasonable?

  • C d

20,000 more people that will probably just end up in US prisons. #ramos #compeon

  • don sachs

Do ya think we are stupid,Lindsey? F-YOU! Build the fence!

  • CatHerder

I say they should make border duty part of the required training for all Sniper Schools. Post signs warning that this is a free-fire zone. Build the wall out of bodies.

    • eeddggy

      Love it!

    • Bathing Suit Area

Well that doesn’t make you sound like a homicidal maniac at all.

      • CatHerder

        Fancy me giving a $h1t.

      • Rob

As harsh as it is, at least it would see results. Conversely: a fence and actual PUNISHMENT for ILLEGAL actions. Instead of a slap on the wrist and a plane ride mulligan.

        • Bathing Suit Area

Sociopaths may not understand this, but many people would rather not see their society become one that murders people for wanting to be part of it.

          • Rob

And we let millions in each year through the proper channels. Absolutely NO ONE is arguing that the process should not be expanded, simplified, made more economical.

Besides. Do you really think anyone would try to even approach a well marked and well armed border? Certainly less would be killed defending the border than die today from drugs that come into the US and guns that go into Mexico.

          • Noah

nope, we’d rather just be one that murders them in the womb. Is that it? does that make it better?

  • eeddggy

Screw the fence. Pay for our ammo and the border will be quite secure.

  • Steve_J

IMO, the republicans supporting the amnesty bill are trying to thin the party out so they can just remain in office as members of the permanent minority and receive the benefits without any responsibilities.

    • CatHerder

You may be on to something.

  • Jack Deth

Our tax dollars will now generate 20,000 new staunch unionized Democrat voters.

Since I’ve been leery of nice round numbers fixing a problem, dating back to McNamara’s 100,000 during LBJ screwing up Vietnam.

How much of that money will actually go towards training?

And how much will be kicked back to the DNC?

    • trixiewoobeans

      Mo’ Money Mo’ Money Mo’Money!

    • trixiewoobeans

      Mo’ Money Mo’ Money Mo’Money!

  • KansasGirl

I have one question for the Republican “gang of four”.
Why didn’t one of you propose this initially?
Our government has no intention of doing what is best for America.
We are the “hoi polloi” that they have to tolerate (while holding their nose).

  • Chip

Funny, pretty sure there is a memo on Obama’s desk which furloughs them all the day after they are hired…… darn that sequester…..

  • OLLPOH ~ America

We the taxpayers have paid for nearly 30 years for the fence to be done, completed, finished and Not going to pull another piece of $hit legislation on again because YOU and the rest of the Senate Carpetbaggers didn’t enforce the law in ’86. We know YOU want money to spend and you want everyone to have their eyes Xrayed, and we aren’t giving you another opportunity to rip all of America off a second time.
You are the nitwit and it is NOT Hilarious, a bigger more expensive Catch and Release Program of Border Patrol Agents to go through the motions. And presently they were Not allowed to do their job and Janet let the illegals out of jail, too. Not another Not Going To Be Enforced by Janet and company you know the Executive Order Big Sister Barack Program.
    We aren’t fools Lindsey.

  • HARP2

Don`t talk with your mouth full Lindsey.

  • brewerandpatriot

So each border agent will make a million dollars? Sign me up!

  • NRPax

May as well hire more people to not enforce the laws that get passed.

  • BeeKaaay

And will those 20,000 agents actually be allowed to capture, detain and deport illegal aliens? Or are they the Obama welcome squad for new democrat voters?

  • Bob

As long as those agents are having to follow the TBS (Turn Back South) doctrine, it’s not going to do a damned thing.

  • Rob

40,000 Border agents working 8hrs a day is enough to station one every 100 feet along the Mexican border. So we’ll pay $40K a year what just $5000 of fence and surveillance equipment would do?

  • Fidget

We really need to melt the phone lines of all elected individuals and push to get them to understand border security is about national security and it is reprehensible to use the security of the border as a bargaining chip for an immigration problem that could easily be fixed merely by enforcing the laws already on the books. The border needs to be secured now, we need to stop the flow of people illegally entering our country and figure out who is already here and why. It is time for conservatives to start playing the same game libs do, anytime someone mentions the border and tries to tie it to amnesty, question or claim that they don’t want America secure and don’t care about the safety of America and her citizens. Let’s get these politicians on both sides of the aisle to start defending why they don’t feel immediate border security is necessary in this day and age of terrorism and an increasing number of those who wish to do us harm on our own soil. Don’t let them get away with trying to make it about immigration, it is about national security. Also all this b.s. nonsense Rubio is claiming about how amnesty is the right thing to do and we need to show compassion for the illegals already here, well, what about compassion for the citizens and for the legal immigrants who have obeyed the law? Start asking Rubio and the rest of them why they care more about the feelings of illegal aliens who broke our laws than law abiding, tax paying citizens and legal immigrants? And if the are planning on rewarding illegal aliens for breaking our laws with citizenship and voting rights, then what crimes can Americans commit and expect not only a pass for, but also a reward? If we cannot break laws and be rewarded, well, that’s not fair and equal, that is discrimination against citizens! Use their language against them and be relentless challenging their claims and making them explain.

  • Frank N Short

How about move all our military desert training to the desert southwest (AZ & NM) where there’s a lot of traffic? Wouldn’t cost a thing.

    • Smart Grunt

Have you ever had to do a sweep of impact areas to clear it of illegal aliens before training could begin? It wouldn’t help!

  • Gallatin

20 billion dollars for 20,000 border agents, that it $1,000,000 per agent. I bet we could pay them salary plus benefits of $100,000 each and use the remaining $18 billion to —-oh I don’t know—-BUILD A FENCE!

South Carolina why do you keep sending this RINO back to Washington to patronize us?

It doesn’t matter how many officers you deploy to the border, if they’re not going to be permitted to do their job then what good is it?

  • chetnapier

what he is really saying is give us the money and then we will steal it and use it on a pet project
