Matt Yglesias: Is Bobby Jindal’s rep for intelligence just ‘ethnic stereotyping?’

Is Matt Yglesias’ reputation for douchebaggery underestimated? You be the judge.

This afternoon, the Slate economics writer and crackerjack lefty offered up this profound musing on Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal:

If we tried, we couldn’t possibly dream up something that illustrative of the leftist mindset when it comes to non-white conservatives. It’s stunning. Truly:

Of course, Yglesias can’t stand being called out on his blatant bigotry:

So taking offense at the idea that Jindal is only seen as smart because of his ethnicity is “bogus outrage”?

And the best part? Mr. Smartypants himself was forced to admit that he knew diddly-squat about Jindal before spewing his garbage:

Seriously. Take a gander at these tweets:

Yeah. Good thing his follow-up “research” told him that it’s possible that Jindal is, in fact, an intelligent man.

But of course. Somehow, the dustup he’s found himself in is white conservatives’ fault.

Shut your pie-hole, Matt, and take a seat. School is in session:

Twitter users have some questions of their own for the ethnicity and intelligence expert:

But if it’s answers Yglesias is looking for, here’s a good one:

Oh, snap.

  • $29561723

    douchey coutoure

    • Elaine

I wonder how he would react if someone had asked, “Is Obama’s reputation for lack of intelligence anything other than ethnic stereotyping?”

  • grais

Did you learn anything today, Matthew, other than that Bobby Jindal is intelligent?
    Anything at all?
Did you take away any lesson from your embarrassing blurts?

  • Republicanvet

…”Jindal very smart but says dumb stuff…”

Uh, wouldn’t he be writing for Slate then?

    • Gregg Hammerquist

      Or busy being Obama’s VP.

      • MissJames

Speaking of Biden, where the heck are they hiding him? Seems like it’s been months since he was last seen.

        • tedlv

          Vacation? Maybe he is tired.

          • Jeremy

He is probably practicing his Shotgun on his porch.

        • Alex Schore

They’re keeping him in hiding. With all the scandals brewing they don’t need him to accidently blurt out the truth and blow their cover.

    • bkeyser

Nope. No smart people at Slate.

      • Republicanvet

That’s true, but his comment was also about saying dumb stuff.

Seems to be a resume enhancer for people writing at Slate…along with racism, stereotyping, ignoring facts, being ignorant…

        • bkeyser

I know. I’m just guessing that an IQ north of 60 pretty much disqualifies a person from employment by Slate. But I get your point.

  • CitizenEgg

Now tell us about your ‘follow up’ research on Obama. Don’t panic. It’s an open book test Matt. Take all the time you need…AFTER the fact! #DERPindeed

  • V the K

Matt Yglesias is one person who never needs to worry about a “reputation for intelligence.”

  • LochGates44

Yglesias keeps living up to the liberal reputation of being an a-hole.

    • Finrod Felagund

      With a room-temperature IQ.

  • porgiefirefighter

If he wuz really schmart he would ThinkProgress!

  • NRPax

I’m willing to bet we know more about Jindal’s education than we do Obama’s.

    • Jeremy

      safe bet to make.

  • Garth Haycock

Is Matt Yglesias reputation for being a dumbass anything other than occupational stereotyping?

    Hint: The answer is yes.

  • © Sponge

Isn’t he an illegal alien that continually taunts law enforcement by taking his picture outside of immigration offices and mocking the sovereignty of The United States?

  • TomJB

Only a baby step higher than Juan Williams, who, had he seen Matt’s tweet, would have corrected him that the accepted term is “Native American”

    • 3seven77

Jindal isn’t Native American. He’s Indian, as in his family is from India.

      • MissJames

I’m pretty sure that was TomJB’s point. He was being sarcastic .

      • tedlv

Am I a “Native American”? I can trace roots back to before the Revolution. My parents, grandparents, and way beyond, were born here. By law, we are American citizens, When does the definition of “native American” start? I think: born here,of legal parents.

      • Mr. Saturn

The joke just flew well over your head didn’t it?

  • alanstorm

“But I would have missed out on this hilarious opportunity to witness conservatives not understanding what racism is.”

Good God, what a moron. Does he not understand that racism is exactly what he committed, and that no amount of walkbacks will change the fact that he prejudged the man and focused entierly on his ancestry?

Tell me again about those intelligent, tolerant liberals. Or any other mythological creature, come to think of it.

    • MissJames

But,but, but………when a liberal does it ,it’s not racism. Only if a conservative says something so stupid does it rise to the level of racism. The World According to Matt Yglesias (never heard of him before this twitchy post )
And he had the nerve to say Bobby Jindal says dumb things !

      • tedlv

I once heard a black leader, who was in the same room as the Hispanic newscaster when his nose was broken by a chair, say that “racism” can only involve criticism of black people. Black people, dissing any other human being regardless of skin color, are never racist. Not possible.

  • RanierWest

Matt looks for Obama in the 56th state VacationLand to see how he should write this story.

  • CO2 Producer

Is Matt Yglesias’ reputation for noteworthiness anything other than cultural deterioration?

  • trixiewoobeans

Matt just “outed” himself as the true racist. He tweeted his private suspicions and belief, then tried to project it onto Conservatives. Racist, Racist, Yglesiracist!!

  • mickeyco

I have news for you, jerk. This is not bogus conservative outrage. It’s the real thing. Libs are the ones who have faux racist outrage.

  • rm1evo

@mattyglesias is freaking pussy. Like the rest of the tolerant libs. Pussy.

  • Ntr

Another nobody climbing up the ladder of “liberal journalism”. It’s no surprise he acts so arrogantly dismissive of the valid views of others’ concerning his own racism. That kind of ufck-headed character, comprised of lacking self-reflection and other weak character traits, is the highest requirement to become a functional “liberal journalist”.

  • TocksNedlog

“Is Bobby Jindal’s reputation for intelligence anything other than ethnic stereotyping?”
    — Okay, so Yglesias is suggesting that us white conservatives think that Jindal is smart based on an ethnic stereotype; and his ‘proof’ is, A) he’s heard Jindal say some stupid things; and, B) uh, well, we’re WHITE CONSERVATIVES . . . stereotyping is what we do! Oh, and then there’s C) we don’t bother to do research when an ethnic conservative comes on the scene; they’re such a rare commodity, we just latch on and ride their star until it (inevitably, if Yglesias’s left-wing hit-machine friends have their way) falls.
In other words, in order to make his point he stereotyped conservatives as being the kind of people that would stereotype Jindal; and he accused us of not bothering (or wanting) to do research, when the ONLY person in this story that didn’t actually do the research — because, if he had, then he would have had NO question to ask — was Matt Yglesias.

  • Jack Deth

And where would Matt Yglesias be today, if it weren’t for the ethic stereotyping sympathies and “white guilt” of liberals?

    Or Obama, for that matter?

  • Tanker74

Not all Cuban-Spanish-Jewish-Polish-Americans are as stupid at Matt.

  • Frank Drebin

mattyglesias, when a person of Jindal’s high intelligence says something that you don’t understand, or that seems “dumb”, at least consider the possibility that it

    May Just Be You.

  • Jeremy

That is Slate for ya.They have a bunch of fools there.

  • tedlv

I worked with a guy from Pakistan. Almost perfect English, hard worker, good guy. He was celebrating his 4th year of citizenship. And, on the same project, a guy from India. He had been here 12 years. I had a lot of trouble understanding anything he said. When a co-worker commented about that, he said we had the awful accent, not him. No, nation of origin does not make or break intelligence. People do.

  • rickg62

Where’s all the usual suspects of lefty apologists commenting here?

    • tedlv

Working NSA and IRS scandals right now. They will be back with their asinine comments. Just be patient.

    • Finrod Felagund

Even the trolls are smart enough not to defend him.

  • Jd1367

“@mattyglesias … who just says lots of very dumb stuff.” — the projection is strong with this one

    • CrashFroelich

  • Anthony Clay

  • Kevin Groenhagen

    “Slate of Hate.”

    • Jeremy

I don’t know what site is worse Slate,Huffington Post,or Daily Kos.

      • mike_in_kosovo

  • CrashFroelich

If you put Yglesias and Krugman in the same room, you’d still have only a half-wit.

  • Tyrconnell

“Oh, fun. Conservative twitter is in bogus outrage mode”
Always bogus, or “faux” outrage, because only facists like matty can be truly outraged.

    • Kevin Scott

It’s the Liberal version of “Do you still beat your wife?”.

  • Billy Bob

MR. Yglesian, it is better to keep your mouth shut and have people think you are an idiot, than to open your mouth and prove them correct.

  • Jay Stevens

Matthew Yglesias? Sounds like an illiterate wetback.

Oh, wait. I just googled him. Except for a problem with spelling, he seems pretty intelligent, but he does write some dumb things.

  • bo1921

Poor little matt. Too many jokes – Too little time.

  • Bemani Dog

Wow. Playing the race card AND calling him stupid. Classy.

    • Kaya Hund

      A twofer.

    • Kaya Hund

      A twofer.

  • Miketrt

Shouldn’t Jindal be in the computer industry or a curry salesman? Or have a turban on? Or be in the Lotus Position asking for peace in his life? OK, out of stereotypes. Jindal is awesome, stereotypes came from reality. Quit acting like a bunch of *ussies. Do you think the Governor is crying about stupid stuff like this? No. He’s a man with a life and a state to run. To you libratards who decry all this nothingness then participate in the same nothingness you gnash teeth over – screw you, hypocrite.

  • Douglas Williford

    Jindal is Indian???
