Fake Glenn Greenwald reports Snowden’s death; Panic, hilarity ensue

Many Twitterers were shocked this morning to learn that NSA surveillance leaker Edward Snowden had been killed by a drone in Hong Kong. The news was reported by the intrepid @ggreenwild:

Say what?

Most terrifying of all? That so many people mistook @ggreenwild for Glenn Greenwald.

Uh, CONFIRMED: People need to study their vowels a little harder. It’s really important to be able to distinguish between an “i” and an “a.” And they might want to brush up on their consonants as well, while they’re at it. There’s a difference between one “n” and two:

The real Glenn Greenwald tweeted this out yesterday:

Wonder what Greenwald thinks about having a Twitter imitator of his own.

What we have here, ladies and gentlemen, is a fake “real journalist.”

No he isn’t. But a lot of people figured that since he’s around, they might as well have fun with him:

Talking Points Memo’s Hunter Walker really went to town:

Since we’re on to this Greenwild guy now — we hope — here’s a tip for the next person who wants to spoof Mr. Greenwald:

Nothing more dumb that when a Tweet can starts an international incident and someone official has to explain there was not a drone strike in the heart of the most densely populated city as the tweet was fake. A fake tweet could have started a world war and a dangerous place to be.

I’m glad Ed is still alive, for a brief moment I got a little worried. Stay safe Ed. God protect you man.

Always look for the union label and the little blue check mark.

According to Dan Rather(and nobody else) the account is “fake but accurate”.
