Obama: ‘All members of Congress’ briefed on NSA spying; Members of Congress: We were?

As it turns out, members of Congress might be harder to keep under the bus than, say, a couple of rogue, low level IRS employees in Cincinnati.

During President Obama’s remarks Friday morning about the NSA controversy, he said this:

Now, the programs that have been discussed over the last couple days in the press are secret in the sense that they’re classified, but they’re not secret in the sense that when it comes to telephone calls, every member of Congress has been briefed on this program.

“Every member of Congress has been briefed on this program.”

The initial pair of members of Congress who have already contradicted Obama’s claim is bipartisan:

And that list is growing:

Maybe, as Bill Clinton might say, it depends on what your definition of “every member of Congress” is.

All of Congress better be complicit and be sure to practice bowing first.

  • TJ

Sure some where briefed on the intelligence committee but if they told anyone they would be prosecuted and then have their congressional careered end in a cloud of ethic charges. Then any company they own or even visit will be have the IRS, FBI and ATF sent on them.

Congrats to Obama for finally scooping the MSM on one of his scandals.

Maybe it will be revised just like NYT.

  • Catchance

In the beginning my issue with this was that he got elected by his anti-Patriot Act rhetoric, then not only kept it but expanded the spying to include everyone… except the ones who should have been (Tsarnaevs). Now we find out that he wasn’t even keeping Congress in the loop. Does this man ever tell the truth?

    Let’s play Jeopardy!

Answer: Water is wet, The sun rises in the east, and Obama lied.

Question: What is “Things that are constant.”

    Correct sir!

      Was that the Daily Double?

      • Chevypowered

Yes it was and the winner received $1800 dollars all which was confiscated by the IRS!

Typical administration politics, displace blame. It would be refreshing if they would just own up. How long will it be before they blame a YouTube video?

This feels like Julius Caesar’s treatment of the Roman Senate after his popular victory in Gaul. He didn’t need the Senate; he had the people’s approval. Obama doesn’t believe he needs the Congress either. He has the people’s approval, that is… ‘He Won. Get over it.’ Well, the people are not so approving. The evidence is that radical communist/progressive Berkeleyites (CA) are not convinced and do not approve. What do you know. The emperor’s clothes are slipping off, even for the radically blinded left.

The Entire Congress this time: “YOU LIE!!”

  • HadYourChances

Obama: we briefed all members of congress on these operations.
    Congress: no you didn’t.

    Congress: no you didn’t.

Probably the most important part of this is that Democrats are among those contradicting this.

  • KansasGirl

I doubt if O was even briefed.
