NYT editors on NSA scandal: ‘The administration has now lost all credibility’

Yep, this one’s gonna leave a mark.

The New York Times, normally a reliable ally of the current administration, is suddenly not so keen on The One anymore. In response to the news about the NSA surveillance scandal, the Times’ editorial board penned a scathing indictment of the Obama administration’s “overreaching” and willingness to abuse executive power at the expense of citizens’ freedom:

Welcome to reality, New York Times:

The administration has now lost all credibility. Mr. Obama is proving the truism that the executive will use any power it is given and very likely abuse it.

Will this be the straw that breaks the Times’ back?

And what happens next?

Heads exploding everywhere!

Quick! Somebody do a wellness check on Martin Bashir!

But…Valerie Jarrett told Obama that he is the law and he is here to rule the land and none shall speak against his holy name.

PREDICTION: All liberal media will be back in his bed by Jan. 2014, so the Hillster can be the next chosen one.

      • ObamaFail

Didn’t even take that long. New York Times revised their statement to “Lost all credibility on this issue.”

        • jusayin

they want to still get their leaks from this admin so they had to revise and extend their remarks

      • jusayin

        I figure sooner than that

  • Clayton Grant

“Under construction by contractors with top-secret clearances, the blandly named Utah Data Center is being built for the National Security Agency. A project of immense secrecy, it is the final piece in a complex puzzle assembled over the past decade. Its purpose: to intercept, decipher, analyze, and store vast swaths of the world’s communications as they zap down from satellites and zip through the underground and undersea cables of international, foreign, and domestic networks. The heavily fortified $2 billion center should be up and running in September 2013. Flowing through its servers and routers and stored in near-bottomless databases will be all forms of communication, including the complete contents of private emails, cell phone calls, and Google searches, as well as all sorts of personal data trails—parking receipts, travel itineraries, bookstore purchases, and other digital “pocket litter.” It is, in some measure, the realization of the “total information awareness” program created during the first term of the Bush administration—an effort that was killed by Congress in 2003 after it caused an outcry over its potential for invading Americans’ privacy.”

    • Marvin Nelson

I just learned the definition of a “zettabyte”, which is roughly 10 to the 21st power bytes. And this data center has SIX zettabytes of storage. A zettabyte is also equal to 1024 exabytes. One exabyte will hold 50000 years worth of DVD quality video. Just how much freakin’ data are they planning to keep??

      • Clayton Grant

Well, your comment will be in there ….

        • http://www.awinninghabit.com lissa

          That was beautiful 😀

        • Anthony Clay

will this help me get my laundry back

      • Jay Stevens

        All of it.

      • jusayin

        as much as they can

      • http://www.FunDMental.com TheRealJackpineSavage

From what i recall, in 2010 The Entire Internet held only 1.5 zettabytes. I’d say they want Every call made by Everyone.
Most folks read 1984 and saw a Warning.

        Obama saw an Instruction Manual.

        • Anthony Clay

kudos senor orwell the thought police will be at the casa promptly, they have to wait till miss lerner gets back from maui

  • vetgal1970

Had the NYT actually been doing their JOB, they would not have needed to add the word ‘now’, to those of us paying attention all along he started with a credibility deficit.

  • MarcusFenix

How’s all that Hope and Change working now, liberals?

Bet you hope things change fast!

    • Jack Deth

I guess the liberals and LIVs are finally figuring out what “fundamentally change” means!

      • ObamaFail

Nah, they’ll all be back to kissing his butt and covering for him by Tuesday. Even the New York Times. Unlike Conservatives, who once their trust in a politician is broken they never trust them again, libs will forgive Obama. All it’s going to take is Obama to give a speech saying stuff he knows people want to hear, but has no intention of actually doing, and all will be forgiven.

        • F. De Moraes

Libs are sorta like like battered wives, in that they keep believing that their abusive husbands are sorry and that they will never beat them again!

          • Anthony Clay

yes obama is the lacy peterson of politics, another stupid one comes along

        • Anthony Clay

yep he will be telling us what it was like being a sharecroppers son in bama, oh thats aliases number 4, i get confused

  • Harry A

is what the NSA did illegal? (I know it should be, but I’m just wondering if it is). If it isn’t illegal, I want all those who voted for laws that allow such spying to take place to be held accountable with the administration as well! ridiculous.

    • tops116

Unless someone can prove the illegality of all this, the problem with this just boils down to Obama and liberals being hypocritical jackasses. “Oh, we hate Bush for wire-tapping… which makes Obama doing it perfectly okay or something.” Not to mention the whole standard set by the IRS and DOJ scandals.

      • Spinmamma

The problem with secret warrants is nobody can challenge them until they find out about them somehow. If you aren’t charged with anything, no reason to find out.

        • Jay Stevens

And by then, they have hoovered up all of your data.

          • Anthony Clay

so they know that in my mind i made love three beautiful women, but in reality i ate Cheetos’s

      • vetgal1970

Not so much illegal, but that is actually what makes it MOST repugnant. Government is too big, too secret, too abusive, and for some reason no one seems to know ‘anything’, not managers not commissioners, therefore NO one is held accountable. This is the government the people voted for, now they’ve got it.

        • ThatConfused1

If no one in a leadership or management position doesn’t know what’s going on then that person should be dismissed for incompetence and inability of handling the job. Oh we’re not talking about businesses….

        • Jay Stevens

Well, look at all the stuff that Obama found out from the news instead of from his henchmen administration officials.

    • RogueRose

Excellent point Harry A. They had a warrant signed by the FISA Judge Vinson.. and he’s a Reagan appointee.

Judge Vinson also ruled that the individual mandate was unconstitutional and not severable and the entire law would have to be stricken. So he’s no leftist.

    • Billie Slash

Technically, it violates the 4th Amendment (unlawful search and seizure). The DOJ probably got a federal judge to sign off by nefarious reasoning that they were doing it in the name of national security.

      • Jay Stevens

Or, more likely, they lied on the warrant.

  • Kim

So what, NYT? You didn’t say or do sh!t when it actually mattered. Now that your savior’s been safely re-elected, you can pretend to care about things like this. You lost credibility as well, long ago…

    • Clayton Grant

It’s refreshing to hear this from someone in Chicagoland.

      • Kim

It’s a daily battle to resist scratching off Obama 2012 bumper stickers. They’re everywhere.

        • Guest

That’s would be a horribly tedious job, but somebody should do it!

          • Kim

I would do it, but I can’t afford any extra “fines,” “tickets,” “taxes,” or a bullet in the face.

        • pajamakat

Well, at least the yard signs are FINALLY down around where I live. That was really getting on my nerves.

  • Marvin Nelson

Holy crap! Satan is ice skating again and a pig just flew by. Poor Satan probably has frostbite by now. It only took NYT five years and change to get their collective head out of their butt. Better late than never? In this case, the Times lost their credibility a long time ago, but I’m still glad to see this reaction.

    • ThatConfused1

They will become disgusted by the fresh air and reinsert their heads to escape by 2014.

  • mickeyco

Hysterical. Read the NYT’s readers’ comments under RJPundit’s tweet. As he says “pure comedy”. All of the comments are pro-Obama, anti-NYT. Wonderful.

    • Canadian in USA

I know. I had the urge to write something snarky back to some of those posters, but thought better for it. A) Didn’t want my e-mail box to explode; and B) they probably wouldn’t listen anyway.

      • mickeyco

MSM must have created a monster. (Well, we know they did.) Now they’re changing their minds and the followers aren’t following.

      • Lady 12

Did you notice they were all blaming Bush, too?

        • Canadian in USA

          Yeah, I noticed. (Sigh)

  • Wrathful_Brunette

    Memo to NYT:

    Re: Credibility.

You cannot lose what you’ve NEVER had!

  • stuckinIL4now

Seriously? Is NYT pulling our legs? yankin’ our chains? Or pretending to be the knight on the white horse riding in to save us all? And when did this WretchedHive ever have anything faintly resembling credibility?

  • copperpeony

Backpeddling has never worked…like hindsight. NYT is a whore, is a whore. Wearing a chastity belt won’t change that.

  • Victim O Circumstance

Luckily the WH has great Obamacare Insurance coverage.

    Paraphrasing Groucho Marx:

I have here an accident policy that will absolutely protect you no matter what happens. If you lose your credibility, we’ll help you look for it

    • Jay Stevens

First place we can look is MSNBC.

  • Fire and Adjust!

Just saw a pig fly by my 2nd story window…………… I could have gotten up to get a picture of it, but decided to get a screen capture of the NYT’s criticism of Obama instead………. since this is MUCH more rare than flying swine………

  • beebop1952

So? Let me understand this ….

    1. The NYT had no issues with sending guns across our borders, murdering one of our border agents and hundreds of Mexican citizens.

    2. The NYT had no comment when four Americans died in Benghazi and the administration lied.

    3. The NYT has no issue with the IRS attacking one segment of the American population, excessive spending of taxpayer money on useless government conferences.
    4. No issues with what happened to the AP, or Rosen.
Finally. Finally. Finally. They found something that needles them.

    • RogueRose

Their retirement plan must be invested in Verizon stock..

  • Lady 12

RBPundit was right. Skip the recap and go straight to the comments, it was ludicrous.

    • Jeremy

Yeah just more Obama kool aid drinkers having it out in the comments section

  • pajamakat

I guess the NYT is now a racist organization.

  • Rella

Will be the NYT now go back and realize all the lies they were spoon fed by the Administration – Benghazi, Fast and Furious…… Nah! they’ll be back in Obama’s lap by tomorrow – the headlines will be BOOOSH STARTED IT!

    • Junie3

They will kiss and make up tomorrow, but if their newspaper were to start selling, maybe they will keep it up.
Okay, that day dream is over.

      • RogueRose

It’s just a lover’s quarrel.. Then we’ll all have to suffer through the awkward make up sex sure to follow.. uuugh.

  • LtColO

OK, I’ll take the bet. This won’t change support for BHO by the NYT. They’ll come back in line quickly enough. I have to go back to work now, but I’ll be coming back to see who’ll take my friendly wager this won’t mean a thing, long-term…

    • tops116

The new bitter-clingers: liberals that support Obama even when he does what they hated Bush for.

    • vetgal1970

That, sir, would be a suckers bet.
Thank You for what you do *Salute*

    • Chevypowered

      I’ll take that bet!

      Said no sane man ever…

    • LtColO

And now they’ve already edited the scathing commentary to be more…”scoped” in nature. Now where do I collect my winnings?

  • tops116

I’m gonna go over to Michael Moore’s theater and buy some popcorn (assuming there’s any left). Anyone want anything while I’m gone?

    • vetgal1970

I thought Michael Moore was all Pro Socialist and stuff. Why would you need to BUY popcorn, he should just be distributing it.

      • LtColO

He’ll just take popcorn from someone that already bought some and give it to you.

        • vetgal1970

😉 Hope he doesn’t get a theater full of kool aid drinkers. According to Obama’s philosophy of business, If they go to the movie they EXPECT popcorn.

  • Jenn

I am DYING at the tweets and comments in response to this. My word. Hilarious. Someone said “Better late than never” re: Obama losing credibility. Seriously…half the country is going “Told ya so.”

  • stillinthe60s

It’s amazing how the media follows the same script, year after year. Second term tear down to establish their cred for independence of government. Not sure it works this time as the stains on their dress blues will not be easy to hide after so much bended knee in public.

  • clt_dawg

I am not jumping to conclusions. I will wait until Sunday and see what Susan Rice has to say on this.

  • Bobby Brown

Are they going to be putting their kneepads away now?

    • ObamaFail

Nope, they are keeping them on. They went back and added, “on this issue”, because they didn’t want Obama to think they were racist.

  • UrDumber

The NYT and many other media outlets can only blame this on themselves….you can’t be a watchdog and a lapdog at the same time.

  • $2943864

This ol’ band wagon has plenty of room! Hop on! We’ve been waiting a good six years! Glad to see truth eventually sinks in.

  • nc

Sounds great, but I’m predicting that, like a hopeless drunk who refuses to return after that first AA meeting, they’ll be back in their usual stupor in a day or two.

I would LOVE to be wrong, but these folks have let us down too badly, for too long.

  • Jeremy

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fRamB30E9mU my reaction to reading the NYT’s comments section.

    • mickeyco

      Great, weren’t they?

      • Jeremy

        yeah I couldn’t stop laughing.

  • http://www.awinninghabit.com lissa

Update (why are we surprised): NYT has changed their stance to “…lost all credibility on this issue.” Yup, because they have to kowtow *just* a l’il bit.

  • James A. Lonon

When it was just we common folk under attack, Obama could do no wrong. Now that the shoe is on the other foot, they scream bloody murder!
I will not forget or forgive the NYT or any off the “main stream” media. They failed the public with their biased and unprofessional parroting of this administrations official propaganda machine. Too little. To late.

  • Misanthrope

Don’t everyone get excited. This is the same NYT that has no problem with the government targeting citizens for disparate treatment based on their political beliefs. The only reason the NYT is upset about this particular practice is because they’re not immune from it – they’re used to special treatment, and they don’t like their own tactics used against them.

  • JR48

No matter, they’ll be sucking back up to them by tomorrow. Brains of silly putty attached to fingers that spew the party line. Have to give the WH a little time to orchestrate the correct talking points for them.

  • LissaKay

Pigs may not be flying yet, but I think I see a few of them holding carry-on luggage and boarding passes.

  • LegalizeShemp

Hey Fartin Bash-rear, is “newspaper” the new N-word?

  • Franklin Crittenden

I believe most of us are starting to look forward to the day that Obama is introduced as the FORMER President of the United States of America…

  • LegalizeShemp

Obama never had any real credibility, he’s just a construct of the Marxist Left and the media.

  • TocksNedlog

This is all well and good, but they will still endorse Democrats across-the-board in the 2014 midterms.

  • Anthony Clay

so its hipsters, thet send me those snarky remarks, i had no clue, are they the ones with tight jeans, ill fitting white shirts and purses that never match
