ABC News’ Juju Chang live-tweeted while stuck in an elevator: ‘This is not fun. This is serious’

Juju Chang is an ABC News correspondent who serves as a fill-in anchor for Nightline. Help has arrived, but a few moments ago she was frantically tweeting while stuck in an elevator with 16 other people.

Her tweets indicate that she was approaching a state of near panic.

Sweating.. Pushing back panic. #fdny is here. 20+ mins stuck in elevator #insideabc

That last photo does not look fun. We hope everyone is OK now.

All joking aside….*that’s* “serious, you guys!” Glad to see the FD showed up to get them out.

I have a couple friends that are claustrophobic, and they have problems in elevators when they’re *not* stuck!

  • DeadlockVictim

You realize that, in all probability, at least one of them had to use the can, right?

    • TheOriginalDonald

Juju was stuck in an elevator with Lena Dunham?

    • Scott Anderson

If the devil didnt kill them one by one, this really doesn’t count as news.

  • Guest

Been stuck on an elevator before, for about 45 minutes. It wasn’t fun, but also not cause for panic. I dunno, I guess I had the advantage of having been in the military, where they tend to discourage reacting hysterically to adversity.

  • Garth Haycock

People who use the staircase never get stuck in an elevator.

  • Jack Deth

I’m not going to make light of claustrophobia. I got the the same way whenever I fully suited up to complete MOPP-4 with the gas mask and hood. I never felt I could get enough air through the training filters.

    • NRPax

And then you throw in the obligatory “time for a nature walk!” while you’re wearing it. Good times. Really.

      • Jack Deth

My job was being part perimeter security before and an UXO sweep team after simulated attacks. In other words. Expendable.

Lots of fun and loads of laughs. Really hated ATSO!

For me, there was the quality time at 29 Palms. The unofficial motto: “This is one of the things your Recruiter didn’t talk to you about.”

Yeah. They call it “good training”.

        • NRPax

I have noticed that the Marine Corps loves throwing out those terms left and right as if it somehow makes it all better. -:-)

Try PT in MOPP4 – in Ft. Bliss, TX in June. With care and attention to hydration, it is doable. But it is pretty sucky.

    • CombatDiver

Try wearing one of these (LAR V Draeger) for 4 hours while 20 feet sub-surface and finning your butt off….. Talk about claustrophobia, but champions deal with it, not complain.

  • Rob Stevely

Making fun of that situation is bad juju.

  • HARP2

Just wait until the mooch mandates that you take the stairs.

  • ClinkinKY

Almost as scary as the last time she was stuck on an escalator:)

  • CombatDiver

OH NO!!!!!! I smell a pulitzer in her future about her terrifying time stuck in an elevator. Bet she had to go get a mani and pedi and may need to see a professional to help her deal with her PTSD after this horrible event. Being stuck in an elevator is bad enough, but the 3 beads of sweat are just more than the average human can handle, her bravery is an example for present and future young women to emulate. GOD BLESS you JUJU, god bless you.

    • Fire and Adjust!

She should try being in an M1 Abrams for hours upon hours in 120 degree heat while being shot at………….. I wonder if she’d ever again whine about being stuck in an elevator for a few measly minutes.

      • Ronald Green

Been there, done that. Elevators don’t scare me anymore.

      • CombatDiver

I have done more than my fair share of missions in 60-70 pounds of gear in 120-130 degrees in the crap hole called the middle east and when people b!tch about heat and being uncomfortable, I chuckle inside.

  • PeterP

Who is her carrier? My cell phone stops working within 500 yards of an elevator.

  • IronButterfly

The only time I sweat like that is when I have eaten a big plate of beans and then have to sit in a meeting for an hour or two. I bet the giggling stopped after the third fart. Feel your pain Juju.

Slow day on Twitter I guess.

  • ICOYAR

As long as it harmed ABC’s output, it was worth it.

I’m guessing JuJu didn’t enjoy the movie Devil (2010), which is about a possessed elevator. I’m not making that up, that movie was written by M. Night Shyamalan and green-lit by a major studio. But then again, not too many people enjoyed Devil (52% fresh at Rotten Tomatoes).

    • r07a23c

I don’t think anybody enjoyed that movie. Now, for real killer elevator cinematic fun, check out Dick Maas’ “The Lift”. Nobody makes a killer elevator horror movie like the Dutch.

Juju obviously has low threshold for adversity. Slow news day?

  • MisterIncredible

It’s just being stuck in the same place for a long time. I fail to see how it is serious.. Unless you can die of boredom.

I was a firefighter for 30 years and rescued many people out of elevators and I can tell you some folks do get freaked out, panic attacks, passing out, etc. Hope your feeling better Juju.

  • stellatruman

Yeah there needed to be more drama than just sweating
Should have been a woman in labor, homocidal maniac, or Joy Behar
I actually read the headline and thoughtmshenwas in Oklahoma City
