Bing vs. Google: Which search engine did a better job honoring Memorial Day?

Today is Memorial Day. Search engines Bing and Google marked the day by decorating their home pages with tributes to the fallen.

Here’s Bing’s home page today:

And here’s Google’s:

Which one does a better job honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice? It’s unanimous:

  • o0Nighthawk0o

I gave up on Google long ago when they ‘honored’ the military in a similar manner. I switched to Bing. Not only do they do a better job at tributes but they also give rewards that can be used to get free stuff.

    • GrindingMills

Free Bing phones? I’m voting for them in 2016!!!

    • Clete Torres

      Bing all the way.

  • Rob

More patriotic, no sponsored (paid for) search results, and you get Bing Rewards. Why do people still use Google?

    • des111168

For the same reason that for two decades people said “No one ever got fired for buying IBM”. Safe, comfortable, habit.

      • RblDiver

I thought it’d be tough to break my Google habit back around Easter. Thankfully, I was quite wrong. Bing’s my default search now, Google’s only for street view.

    • lainer51

      low information (aka stupid) voters?

      • Rob

“All my friends use/vote Google/Democrat! I will too! Ooool! New episode of Jersey Shore!”

  • James McEnanly

Did the people at Google know it was Memorial Day?

    • TroyGates

Everyone at Google is an intern, they are probably all out getting drunk for the holiday.

    • Mama Bear

      Commies don’t celebrate Memorial Day.

    • lainer51

They knew, just HATE anything to do with honoring the military…. probably Pl. Parenthood would get a thumbs up symbol though.

  • des111168

I switched to Bing months ago. I got tired of Google’s political crap. Bing’s search engine has improved enough to make it competitive with Google’s (and it’s image search is in fact superior). The only place where Bing lags is video search, but that’s because Google owns YouTube and prioritizes their videos, which tend to have the best selection anyway, for now.

  • Mama Bear

Fuck fucking google. Bing is where it’s at.

  • camnpat

I am shocked that Google isn’t celebrating the birthday of Rachel Carson, environmental activist born this day, since they seem to pick obscure personalities instead of acknowledging what’s celebrated that day.

    • RogueRose

They don’t celebrate birthdays as that offends Planned Parenthood..

  • Brett McMicken

i uninstalled google chrome and google earth. i prefer to use bing. even when it’s not a holiday, their daily images are great. i’ve downloaded a few for desktop wallpaper. i know that microsoft is no conservative organization, but at least they do put some thought into observing our nation’s important holidays.

    • camnpat

Their images are terrific. I never jumped into the Google bandwagon when it started (I could never quickly find what I was looking for) so I stuck with Yahoo instead. But since Bing came on I’ve switched almost consistently to it as my primary search engine with Yahoo for support.

(BTW- I think you got a down-vote for “uninstalling google chrome and google earth”. ) 😉

      • Brett McMicken

that’s okay. one of the other reasons i uninstalled them was the fact that chrome didn’t seem to be working well on my computer. neither was internet explorer 9. trying upgrading to ie 10 but it was a disaster. went with firefox and everything is ok. so far.

        • camnpat

Firefox is much better than either. The only issue with Firefox (which you can modify in the preferences) is the constant updates during start up. They keep the software safe but the process could be a bit more seamless.

      • Blake Waymire

Yep. Bing’s image search is far superior to Google’s. The only thing Google’s image search has over Bing is that Google can search for an individual image, which is helpful when I want a different size for an image I’ve already got.

        • camnpat

  • camnpat

BTW- On top of the lovely daily start page image Bing also puts 4 related links to it. It is not just a matter of celebrating the day without knowing why and how this is.

    • Brett McMicken

      i like that!

  • operanerd1986

Bing did a better job with Easter, too.

    • 3seven77

Just the other day they had a really beautiful picture of Notre Dame Cathedral. Their homepage is always interesting.

      • operanerd1986

Cool; I’ll have to check them out.

  • detroit19

Funny, hubby and I had that same discussion today :) BING, hands down.

  • pajamakat

I use either Bing or dogpile. I think when you use dogpile a portion goes to help animals. I haven’t used google in ages. They can go to hell.

  • nc

    I love their daily homepage.

    • Brett McMicken

especially, when they have the video homepages!

  • TJ

Time to give up caring what Google’s home page does. When they first started changing the “doodle” it was only changed once in a blue moon. Now people want it change on every event. Google is a minimalist home page and it always will be. Bing has never had the minimalist home page and always had a themed page.

  • P. Drewery

This is a day for remembering those who gave their lives to protect this
country. And you want to turn it into a contest between two search
    engines? Lame. Very lame.

    • detroit19

Perhaps, but just like your neighbor, you can tell quite a bit about those around you, i.e., respect or lack thereof.

    • TocksNedlog

People with skillz can do both.

    • Jillane Kent

To call it “combat” is lame for you are making a mountain out of a molehill. If you’ll recall, the title of this blurb was “Bing vs Google. Which search engine did a better job honoring Memorial Day?” The consensus view appears to appreciate Bing’s efforts more than that of Google. As a child of one of those individuals memorialized today and a grandchild of an individual liberated from tyranny thanks to American troop effort, I certainly find Bing’s approach to be more reverent and appropriate.

    • lainer51

you would know “lame”?…. look it up on Google.

  • Kleverabevera

Bing works great, and I no longer have to feed the Googly monster.

  • CobraJet428

Google: The Democrats’ Private Intelligence Agency

  • Ben Bollman

Bing is owned by Microsoft which is owned by Bill Gates who is liberal. I’m glad they did a better job honoring troops but Microsoft is still a liberal organization.

    • RonV42

Sorry to burst your bubble…Microsoft is a publicly owned company. Yes Gates owns a lot of shares but doesn’t own the company.

      • Ben Bollman

He is still Chairman and it is still run by liberals, the ‘corporate culture’ if you will, and being publicly traded makes no difference whatsoever.

    • TocksNedlog

      WHO claimed that it isn’t?

      • Ben Bollman

Eh, just trying to remind people who they are dealing with before they go trusting them completely. I remain skeptical of them.

    • Jillane Kent

Gates and Microsoft conduct their business dealings in a manner that would make most liberals cry tears of righteous indignation. A fact, as a shareholder, that I am greatly appreciative for.

      • Ben Bollman

Well, Bill Gates like Steve Jobs(did) and Warren Buffett has a case of the Rich Man’s Guilt. They are liberal but run/ran their companies like conservatives. That’s why were get crap like Google execs and Warren Buffett campaigning for Obama and Bill Gates supporting liberal causes. I’m sorry but I’m a little cautious when I’m asked to trust one liberal company over another, I have a feeling no one wins.

  • Ralphie85

I gave up google the day Bing was born and have loved it ever since!

  • TocksNedlog

If you think this is good — or their celebration of Cesar Chavez on Easter — just wait until Father’s Day when they will celebrate . . . Ché Guevara’s birthday.

  • notenoughtime

Switch to Bing as my homepage long ago.

  • Meech204

I’m sure Google will have Oblahmer’s picture on for Father’s Day, since he is our lord and savior. I just puked in my mouth.

    • meeester

synchronized transcontinental puking! I didn’t know it existed.

  • lainer51

Would rather use an old battered encyclopedia than use that #1 rag GOOGLE.

  • liberumthinker

Google cares more about a union leader than about the soldiers who give their lives for our freedom.

  • AmericanMom

Bing, Bing, Bing, Bing and then Bing again!

  • ELC

BING!BING!BING! Left Google awhile ago and haven’t been disappointed yet. BING is the best!
