Rep. Jordan: IRS’ Lois Lerner enjoys constitutional rights, denies citizens answers about theirs

Evidently telling the truth is as hard as math when you’re IRS official Lois Lerner. She stuck to her plan and refused to testify before the House Oversight Committee Wednesday. Yes, she asserted her Constitutional right to deny Americans answers about their violated rights.

But before clamming up, Lerner yammered about her innocence.

And indeed she did.

GOP Rep. Jim Jordan won big points for pointing out exactly what Lerner was doing by pleading the Fifth.

Back to work for Lois!

Get rid of the IRS and the tax code. Cut it down to about 100 pages – at most. Go to a flat tax or a consumption tax. Democrats are complaining about cigarettes, liquor, and gas, yet tax the crap out of them.

Even that leaves some room for interpretation. Just say “All entities pay 5% of gross annual income.” Fair, simple.

Truth is that if you simplified the tax code, then the boys in Washington (both D and R in this case) would have less ways to reward themselves and their crony friends with new tightly defined tax breaks. It is a scam that has been going on for a LONG while. THIS group has almost perfected it. As long as they are there, the tax code will stay.

    • Finrod Felagund

The FairTax replaces about 8000 pages of tax code with less than 200, and it eliminates the IRS.

The only reason people plead the fifth is because they are 100% guilty, and they don’t want to add perjury to the charges that are surely heading their way. Once the evidence is found, Lerner will go down, whether she testifies or not.

Invoking the 5th Amendment is so that a person does not incriminate his or herself. If she has done nothing wrong as she says then why plead the 5th? Hmmmm…. lying liar of liars!!!! Good on Jordan for pointing out the irony & good on Issa for subpoenaing (sp?) this POS!

    • Jennifer

Exactly. If she truly has done nothing wrong, the only plausible reason for her to plead the 5th is to cover someone else’s ass.

      • Squirrel!

Which is not plausible because it’s not meant to be used to cover anyone else’s behind; just your own. We all know she’s dirty. It’ll come out.

Unacceptable to allow any federal employee take the 5th and go back to work. If your employer demands to know what you did on the job and you refuse to answer, it’s your last day of employment at that job. That must be especially true when involving a public sector employee. There is no such thing as “entitled” to keep any job once you have betrayed those paying your salary. Those who believe answering honestly will put them at risk of criminal charges take the 5th. She may avoid criminal charges with that, but the 5th doesn’t guarantee your continued employment with the federal government!

It’s very disappointing that it seems nothing will come of this. The IRS will still run OwebamaCare. Lois will not lose her job or pension. No one appears to be on the chopping block.

This is hugely disappointing to America and it’s people. Fast and Furious, Benghazi, AP, IRS, Fox News…….and NO CONSEQUENCES.

Sucks to be a law abiding citizen in America right now.

    • Socal71

Let’s reserve some hope that this will wake up Americans who ‘didn’t think this could ever happen’ to push for the repeal of Obamacare when the vote goes to the Senate. This is too big of an issue with the IRS to just allow it to continue with them at the helm regardless…

How can anyone “plead the 5th” and then state that they have “done nothing wrong” without committing perjury? Isn’t taking one’s 5th amendment rights an admission that one has, in fact, done something wrong but they will not self-incriminate, rather make the authorities discover and prove it?

This is like a bad soap that should have been taken off the air. Stop the Madness. Start charging these people with a crime. Everyone of these folks have lied to Congress, that as I understand it is a crime. Just the air around them tells everyone they are above us & how dare Congress call on them. They are the IRS. I am tired of Obama’s fake outrage. What has this woman done to earn $103.390 bonus & a promotion & yet he knows nothing. These people are public servants, including Obama. They work for us. I wish they would lose the attitude. It’s very unbecoming to the office they hold. I hope they all lose their jobs, just for their attitudes.

  • neoface

Pleading 5th is admitting she has done something wrong! Lerner maybe bad at math(another of Oblamer’s unqualified workers), definitely knows how to use her constitutional rights.

    • Clete Torres

      Actually, she doesn’t.
You can’t testify, then make a statement of innocence, THEN invoke your Fifth Amendment rights. The two former preclude the latter.

  • Clayton Grant

We may yet hear some testimony from Lerner. Invoking her 5th amendment privilege does not make her immune from facing criminal charges at some point in the future. The committee will have to offer her immunity for testimony, then we’ll see.

  • John Ledo

She pleads the Fifth and in the same breath states ” i did nothing wrong” well why are you pleading the 5th? was that question asked? I would love to hear her response. I was talking it over with a friend over dinner last night, all the scandals that is, and i could tell a few young blacks were listening in on the conversation. I did what any normal person would do, i spoke louder so they could hear a everything i was saying. They kept rolling their eyes at me, smiling, laughing and making little comments hear and there…fed up, i asked them one simple question. “what has obama done for the black/hispanic race?” They all looked at each other waiting for someone to answer my question. After 30 seconds of nothing, I said to them ” exactly, so why do you support him?” ” Because he’s one of us and not one of you” ” so does it matter that our country is getting taken apart? does it matter to you that our rights are going down the drain? does it matter to you that food stamps/welfare have gone up under obama?” “No, its bushs fault this is happening” All i could do is smile and say ” you have become sheeple to this president. You will be the first to beg when things really hit the fan. I feel very sorry for you and i hope that one day you could wake up” payed my bill and left….America is doomed

    • Squirrel!

I’ve got news for them… he is none of us. He is not one of them & he is not one of us. He is an elitist, but the skin color prevents most from not recognizing this fact. It’s a sad mentality. And good on you for addressing it with them!

    • http://www.facebook.com/aemoreira81 aemoreira81

My response to that question would: Was he supposed to have done something for us? If so, what…because I was not told that he owed me anything…and then question whether or not you’re actually a conservative. To think that the President is supposed to do something for you is a sign of a liberal.

      • John Ledo

you obviously don’t hang around enough black folks…i’m a true conservative my friend. Question all you want, i simply do not care enough about your opinion to go into more detail.

.i’m a true conservative my friend.

You cannot possibly be and still think that that question makes sense at all…reason being: very few people expect to personally benefit from a certain person being in the White House; you don’t vote for someone who benefits you the most.

          • John Ledo

Again you’re right…i don’t vote for someone expecting personal gain…but the blacks who voted for Obama expected special treatment in return…don’t you remember the community organizer in detroit who came out and said “ok obama we voted for you so where is our money?” i asked the question because i was curious of what they were going to say. geez get over it dude

So what? So she pled the 5th.

Accuse her as a co-conspirator and bug her phones, the phones of her friends, hack her computers, and do a detailed investigation.

Then drop the trumped up conspiracy charges… and no harm no foul comes into play and there’s no legal issues at all.

It worked with Rosen, why not here? I never realized police work was so simple…

  • JustLikeAnimals

Pleading the 5th is stupid political move. Refusing to answer because you fear that what you say will get you prosecuted pretty much says it all.

If this is the IRS’s protocol, I’d like to plead the 5th on my next 1040 filing please.

    • http://www.facebook.com/aemoreira81 aemoreira81

No one;s right to free speech and assembly was violated though. 1A is not 5A. Now, had you claimed denial of due process, you would have been spot-on.

Burdening those groups with all manner of ridiculous questions suppressed their right free-speech and assembly.

Key IRS Exec Takes The Fifth, But Tea Party Couldn’t
        http://news.investors.com/ibd-editorials/052213-657199-lois-lerner-pleads-the-fifth-amendment.htm
Scandal: The rest of us must answer IRS questions under threat of perjury, but the agency’s execs can take the Fifth. A Tea Party targeted by the IRS — and the FBI and OSHA and the ATF — thinks that’s unfair. We do too.
But unable to invoke the Fifth Amendment or to refuse to answer questions was Catherine Engelbrecht.
Increasingly frustrated by the political process and the inefficiency and growing power of a burgeoning federal behemoth, she decided after the 2008 election to found two organizations: King Street Patriots, a community group that hosts weekly discussions on personal and economic freedom, and True the Vote, which seeks to prevent voter fraud, trains volunteers to work as election monitors and registers voters.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) launched an unscheduled audit of their machine shop, which had the ability to make small gun parts they never had.

Then the Occupational Safety and Health Administration paid a visit to Engelbrecht Manufacturing, slapping $25,000 in fines for things like employees not wearing the “right kind” of safety glasses.

The ATF would pay a second visit, and the IRS would send no fewer than three rounds of questions.
Engelbrecht thinks the attack on her by multiple federal agencies was no accident and coordinated from much higher up.

“This is what the beginning of tyranny looks like,” she told Breitbart.com.
