Civility: Austin, Texas, police chief says pro-gun Twitter user has ‘lying extremist undeveloped brain’; Update: Acevedo tries to cover his tracks

What has Austin, Texas, police chief Art Acevedo so riled up? Was it the claim that Acevedo supports universal background checks for guns? That claim is true:

What about the claim that Acevedo opposes enforcement of federal immigration laws?

Acevedo is on record supporting legislation that would prevent police from inquiring about the immigration status of crime victims and witnesses.

And he supports a bill that would allow illegal aliens “to get special permits to drive and obtain auto insurance if they pass criminal background checks and pay a $150 fee.”

Perhaps there is something in @JohnGaltTx’s tweet that inaccurate. If so, Acevedo could have responded by pointing out the error. Instead, he engaged in ad hominem attacks.

When another Twitter user called out Acevedo for mocking his critics, the police chief doubled down:

No one is arguing that Acevedo doesn’t enjoy the same First Amendment rights as other citizens. That is a straw man.

The point is that it is unseemly for a high-ranking public official to address critics in such a childish, vitriolic manner. Acevedo is the police chief for a major city, after all, not (as far as we know) an anonymous commenter at Democratic Underground or Daily Kos.

Shortly after this post was published, Acevdeo deleted the following tweets:!/ArtAcevedo/status/336238523223011328

Too bad for him: Twitchy is forever.

  • Shad Harvey

When we started to pick and choose which laws to uphold and which to ignore, we started down the road to 3rd world status. It is that simple.

    • spacelink

Unfortunately, we’re there! Now it’s time to take out the TRASH!!! 537 empty seats on the Hill in DC would be an awesome start!

    • Steve Ellis

Not that simple. Laws that go against the populace wishes are to be destroyed. We (The people) rule the govt, NOT the other way around. I will NOT follow the Obama nation.

      • Aubrea Carriger

No, laws exist to PROTECT those who are most vulnerable. Not that long ago the majority of Americans felt that African Americans and Women shouldn’t be able to vote and the majority was also for complete segregation of the races. If the MAJORITY had it’s way we would never have progressed as a nation and been true to “ALL men are created equal”. And before you make assumptions, I am as conservative as it gets.

        • Robert A. Davis

Aubrea, You conveniently forget that it was Demoncraps that held that low ground of race or class, The rest of us could care less about race or class. If you suck, you suck.
I don’t care who or what you are, if you suck, I turn and walk away. If your character is fatally flawed, I will put you back into the cesspool that you speak and shun you. I will give you the benefit of the doubt only once, then you are fair game for ridicule.

        • Patriot077

You are correct in stating that women voting and segregation were longheld, deeply held views that required strong public outcry to effect change. In earlier days, our congressional representation respected the voices of their constituents. Now, not so much.
But, we are a republic not a democracy. Democracy means majority rule whether it is good law or bad. Because our representation doesn’t seem to be working to uphold our laws, we may get to the point where we need to effect change through non–compliance. A civil society requires equal treatment under the law; not preferential treatment. Preferential treatment eventually breeds discontent and an uncivil society.

          • Steve Ellis

            @ Patriot077
“Now, not so much.” ………. Now always not. They get something for their betrayal.

          • RRyan

@Patriot077, THANK YOU for giving the civics lesson of the day…so many people do not even know the difference between a democracy and a Republic…this nation operates as a democratic Republic…and the Supreme court can strike down any law that they feel is not in keeping with the Constitution. People can pass bad laws…doesn’t mean they are constitutional…and they CAN and will be repealed at some point.

          • Rationalthinker

But…if you put Liberal, Progressive judges in place….well, you know what happens, then.

          • RRyan

I hear you…and those on the left will say the same thing about judges appointed under conservative administrations…over the long haul, hopefully, it evens out. I don’t know another solution…you can’t elect them because that REALLY lets the gerrymandering and tinkering and fraud in.

          • UtahJack

The Southern Democrat majority in Congress held up civil rights legislation for a century.

          • Patriot077

Yes, and even worse, as soon as the Dems got back their majority they repealed all the civil rights legislation the Repubs had passed after the Civil War. It took almost a century to work our way back. I learned only a few years ago that the first civil rights acts were passed about 1870.

        • Hudmar

I tend to disagree that all man are created equal, you probably mean that all man are “endowed by their creator with certain inalienable rights” that among these are Life, Liberty and the Persute of Happinnes

          • Patriot077

Equal in the eyes of the law; equal opportunity for all. But certainly not equal outcomes as each of us has our own talents and dreams. This administration is doing all they can to sell the public on the idea that “social justice” is required to achieve equality. I call that marxism and definitely NOT constitutional :)

        • Humanity4Humans

And that’s why we call America a Republic.
In a Republic, minorities have rights as well as majorities.
In a Democracy, the minorities have only those that the majority permits.
Hence where you get the terms for our primary parties and why all minorities should be Republicans.
If it wasn’t for the Republican party, blacks would still be slaves.

          • mike_in_kosovo

            Well said!

          • Patriot077

Pity that so many Democrat voters don’t realize they are building a new plantation for themselves and their progeny.

        • PatSisler

Not that long Ago Stupid it been 50 years. The only race in this country comes from the race baiters on the Left.Get your head out of the toilet

        • The Floorguy

And they amended the US Constitution. They didn’t make a “law”

        • UtahJack

Laws exist to PROTECT us all!

          • Alan Simmons

Yes, from the government. The Constitution is governmental rules that bind the government. Not the people. The states pass laws that “protect” people. Ever state constitution has a clause that should the federal government overstep their bounds it gives the right to the state and people of the state to either overthrow and disregard those laws or to say adios to the federal government as a whole.

      • The Floorguy

Then you contact your representative and have them change the the law. If the law is unconstitutional, then the courts have a way of sorting it out in the wash.
If you don’t like a law, it is not illegal, until you get caught.
You do realize, every law is a restriction of freedom. Every law.

    • Carlos.Danger

Curious……Police chiefs who are beholding to their democrat mayors generally are anti gun. But their rank and file police officers are pro gun and pro carry conceal.

  • Stacey Sefcik

I’m not a Twitter user, so I could be naive here and completely missing the boat. Is it common for a City Police Chief to have HIS OWN Twitter Page for his professional capacity? I mean, I could see the City or the City’s police department having one, but the Chief himself in his professional capacity sporting a tough but pandering-to-the-camera kind of picture? it just screams arrogant and unprofessional to me. And if this is a page he supposedly uses in a professional capacity, then shouldn’t he be expected to ACTUALLY ACT PROFESSIONAL?

    • TJ

Only a public officials on the left can troll on twitter and do so from an official sometime verified accounts. Sometime even companies tweeter feeds do it as well. @Arbys did and even blocked people who challenged them.

If someone on the right does it they will be vilified even if just to ReTweet someone else who spewed hate to show that hate is taken as endorsing the hate.

  • Eric Johnson

Just tried tweet to him but it didn’t show, maybe under his desk after realizing a painful mistake.

    • Derick Durden

I did too. Not showing. I guess he can “dish it out” but cannot be a man and take the feedback. Very unprofessional.

    • Stacey Sefcik

Feel free to use this email address then….

    • Bob Martinelli

You are a complete moron. His twitter account shows up fine. And unless you live in Austin you have no idea what you are talking about. Gun idiots. Go find a real woman.

  • TocksNedlog

Deep in the liberal enclave that is a tumor on the heart (or the capital) of Texas.

    • mike_in_kosovo

It’s not called “Moscow on the Colorado” for nothing!

      • DrSamHerman

Living in San Antonio, we still have to put up with some of that Austin stench when they come straying into town. Most of Texas would rather put up a big wall around Travis County to keep the inmates in Austin.

        • Sonya A. Willis

Doesn’t San Antonio have its own problems with mayor Julian Castro? That guy definitely has his own anti-American agenda. I think the Conservatives of Austin(yes there are those in and around Austin) and San Antonio should band together and rid both cities of the liberal infestation.

          • DrSamHerman

Julian Castro has been tagged as a potential candidate for everything, but he’ll probably end up just like Henry Cisneros–bogged down by personal problems and baggage to the point where he becomes irrelevant.

There are conservatives in Austin, but they have they don’t have the numbers to kick the leftist trash out of the city. The conservatives in San Antonio, which include a hell of a lot of former and current serving military officers, do have some clout but again not enough to overcome the Obamabot parasites.

    • trixiewoobeans

      Austin. Need we say more?

  • Al Gagnon

  • ShelleyMG

I suppose every state has it’s “armpit” area…sadly, my home state of Michigan has several. It sounds like Gov. Perry should look into an Austin Tax, especially for liberal cancer cells that root in Texas from other states.

    • Brenda

You can not tax stupid, it is sadly a condition that seems to fall on some people. and having said that, I disagree with Mr. Acevedo but would defend til the death his right to say it. We Texans understand that Austin is one of our special needs places and pray for those in need. Most people who live in that city are nice but like all other places there are always a few who just don’t get it.

      • BobbyC1956

No one has tried to take away his First Amendment rights. There are standards his speech must meet in his professional life however. Even speech in his private life can be used against him as a way to judge the man’s character. While he has the right to free speech, he does not have a right to escape consequences of using his free speech to spout off bad comments!

        • Justin Ahlquist

A police chief is a salaried position that is a political appointed position. A chief is a 24/7 position and must remain outside the political sphere or be seen appealing to only one side.

      • PatSisler

        You Can’t Fix STUPID

    • RRyan

As with most states, the major metropolitan areas tend to breed “liberalism”…don’t know why, but the same holds true here in Texas too…it’s the rural areas and smaller towns and cities that uphold conservatism. It’s sad to me, to think of a city named after Stephen F. Austin, and Sam Houston…leaders and constitutionalists, have sanctuary cities named for them.

    • trixiewoobeans

Yes, the Libs who ruin their own states, then fly off to others to pollute them, too. They don’t get it, they ARE the problem. After they ruin it there, they’ll pull up stakes and go soil another nest.

    • Bob Martinelli

Yes we in Austin are criticized for being a bit brighter than the rest of the state, luckily we aren’t cursed with pudgy ugly middle aged women like yourself.

  • hwy505

    Extremely unprofessional!

  • Jose CUnha

…another idiot who thinks a badge an uniform makes his opinion more valid, when in fact they are even more assinine because in his capacity he should know how absolutely useless the measures he back (no doubt for political reasons ) are. Maybe lessw time on twitter and more time getting informed on the effects of lawful gun ownership on crime rates, or perhaps some history to really undertand the 2nd amendment. Or perhaps just do your job and STFU.

    • GaryTheBrave

Any time a law officer advocates a new law or regulation “to make their jobs easier” it means the loss of rights, freedom, and liberty. It is time that political leaders take much of their power away.

    • The Floorguy

Welcome to the progressive Police State, they call Austin.
Where restrictive intervention is a way of life.
Where you can go to jail for thinking about it.

    • Rodney Bryant

Fortunately, the rank & file don’t usually follow along with the
IACP. Acevedo’s stance is from an executive position. Police chiefs have
very little knowledge of the real ‘street’ environment or rank &
file experiences. They live in their protective glass bubble and only
look at issues from a political position, acting according to whichever
the political winds are blowing at a particular time. If Acevedo had a
clue of just how many (and I know many who do) of his rank & file owned
arsenals, he would move to make life very difficult for them.

  • Rick Heckert

@artacevedo “support for universal background checks is a war on 2nd Amendment? Oh no the horror, gun profiteers can’t sell to criminals & nuts” Rick “Yeah I’ll bet they are scared as hell to break any laws.”

    • phil

What the hell is a gun profiteer anyway?

      • robcrawford2

        A BATFEIEIO agent?

    • Well Done

LOL, yes, we need to make murder, robbery, and rape illegal so people won’t do it any more.

      • The Floorguy

Without laws, we would not have criminals.

Every law they pass, is a restriction on our freedoms. Yes, every law.
Every law, makes those that are wealthy, do and afford things the commoner can’t. They just pay for the privilege.

Two kids @ Austin High get caught smoking dope. One a state reps boy, living in Tarrytown, and the other a black kid from the east side of 35. The white kid gets a slap on the wrist, the black guy has a rap sheet started, and does a year in Juvy and not allowed to return to Austin High.

  • John Cronin

Must be having difficulty doing his job and is looking for excuses.

  • Jim McCormack

Painfully immature. We’ve slipped to Third World behavior.

  • Philip

    Dear Chief Acevedo,
I have been in law enforcement for 26 years. Please tell me that you are really not that stupid! Universal background checks will do absolutely nothing to stop criminals from getting guns. Why? Because criminals obtain their guns illegally, which means….you guessed it. No background check. It seems to me you are like the majority of administrators and chiefs. You have been riding a desk so long that you have forgotten what being a REAL law enforcement officer is all about. Good luck with your career. Sounds like you will need it!

    • Shane Finch

Lived there for a while and had a few officer friends, they didn’t care for the guy to much.

    • Independent4sure

Phil, I was in Law Enforcement for 25 years and you know as well as I do that those in power over him, Police Commission, Mayor, etc. undoubtedly are in agreement with his statements. It’s probably how he got his job to begin with, had his head so far up their butts they couldn’t pass him over. It’s an exercise in politics and generally has nothing to do with true ability.

  • $2943864

This guy is a police CHIEF?!?! Wow, just wow. Don’t they have a code of ethics and professionalism or something down there in Austin?

    • Steve Barry

nope,Austin is the most liberal town in texas……no wonder that little north korean fellow wants to nuke it!!!1

    • TugboatPhil

It’s not that uncommon to have a liberal in the Police Chief office in any city. They are politicians first, police officers second. When you look at what the Police Chiefs Associations support versus what the “on the street” cops do, you’ll see a difference in most cases.

  • renee52

Typical Austin College town mentality! Worthless , hating Liberal!

  • CryingGlitterEagle

“The point is that it is unseemly for a high-ranking public official to address critics in such a childish, vitriolic manner.”

Says the fans of Joe Arpaio

    • wwbdinct

Why? Did Arpaio tweet something in a childish, vitriolic manner?

    • tallron

      Pathetic, non-sequitir, troll.

    • KansasGirl

Are you upset because Joe enforces the law?

      • Antonio Buehler

Joe and Acevedo are swine. Enforcing unjust laws is what Nazis did.

        • KansasGirl

There is nothing unjust about protecting our borders.
Furthermore, calling people derogatory names doesn’t change the law…only makes you look caddy and small.

    • annoyinglittletwerp

I’m a conservative-who despises Arapio. Arapio is a birther. Arapio is an idiot-as is this troll in Austin.

  • justapatriot

Since this tactic is coming directly from Obama, who uses it regularly, this “public servant” has adopted the bad manners and intellectual diminutiveness displayed by our current political climate. Honest discussion and adherence to our founding documents no longer dominates the intellectual bastions of our government.

  • ARJ190

The chief has higher political aspirations that much is plain to see!!

  • John Cook

Any one else notice how the elected office of Sheriff has seen its officials stand by the 2nd amendment while we seem to be seeing the appointed office of Chief officials swaying towards political agenda? Is that just me?

    • BobbyC1956

That’s an interesting question. Are you stating that as a fact derived from data or expressing a hypothesis? If it is a hypothesis, it is one my gut says is correct. Any idea how to prove it?

      • GaryTheBrave

Here’s a little proof. 54 Sheriffs in Colorado are suing to stop the anti-gun laws passed in the recent legislative session. They are siding with the people who are being represented by several very disparate groups as co-plaintiffs in the case.

  • John Clement

so how come he gets to carry a gun? Does he have an undeveloped brain?

  • Leslie Jewett

This guy is Chief of Police in Austin, Texas. Dontcha know Austin is the only bastion of Liberal agendas in the great State of Texas? Pshaw

  • ss396cam

Arcevedo is just playing to his audience, i.e. the Austin libs! He is just another say anything to gain votes. Can’t believe anything he says!

  • Wesley Tucker

    Could thing Acevedo doesn’t carry a gun and can . . . . oh, wait a minute . . . .

  • Chris Stoneking

Acevedo, you are as bad as the corrupt politicians who misuse the power granted to them by The People.
With this low sort of leadership can’t you just imagine the caliber of scumbags that work for him?

    • Kannibal Jones

isnt a police chief an elected official? whats up texas

      • pinkelephant22

Sheriffs are elected, Police Chiefs are placed.

  • Batman

Honestly, I don’t see what’s the issue with Universal Background Checks. But, let’s not kid ourselves. The government cannot enforce existing laws. Adding more laws is not going to fix anything. The real issue, at least the only one I see, is Police Chief Acevedo responding to the public using his Twitter acount in an immature manner. I don’t know who the heck JohnGaltTx is, so he can act like a jackass and nobody could care. Seriously. But, if I type in “Art Acevedo” in Google, well, he’s obviously a public figure…the police chief of Austin, Texas. Art, don’t be a jackass while representing the Austin P.D. and city of Austin. Did you take any classes or seminars in leadership or management? Focus on your job instead of waging Twitter wars with nobodies. I don’t even care if you’re doing this in your free time (even then, I’d say you need a hobby), but if so, make a spare Twitter acount that cannot be traced to your public occupation. Use your brain.

    • Shane Finch

      Who is John Galt? LOL…

      • Batman

Exactly. (But, in case you are wondering why I mentioned him, he’s the first one Art Acevedo replied to with his Twitter acount. Scroll to the top of the page.)

      • Jarhead83

Your comment passed MB in both lanes, Shane…

    • wwbdinct

      Very well said!

  • Red Fred

Sorry, but expect to see another angry, disturbed lib when immigration with amnesty fails, and all his illegal friends have to make their departure. Beyond that, ITS THE LAW. Enforce immigration laws, and stop calling the people paying your salary names. At least TRY to maintain some professionalism. (This officer needs to be investigated.)

  • patriot1742

He needs to be removed from office – he is way off the bubble.

  • HoneyTree EvilEye

If there are any standards this dude will be asked to quietly step down. None of this is acceptable in a “leader” or authority figure.

  • Abbie Mills

Gun profiteers? Said like a tried and true marxist.

    • Jarhead83

…whose entire department uses said guns.

      • Abbie Mills

Guns for me, but not for thee. Marxism 101.

  • Jose

If he believes background checks will stop criminals from getting guns then who really has the undeveloped brain?

  • gregorsamsa

As a former cop, I can vouchsafe for the obvious – municipal chiefs of police are political appointees only too happy to be led by the leash of their leftist mayors and city councils. Sheriffs, on the other hand, are elected and generally reflect and uphold the will of the people. There is a difference between a “police officer” and a “cop.” Anyone with a badge can be a “police officer.” It takes guts and integrity to be a cop. I wouldn’t even call Acevedo a police officer; he’s a partisan hack.

  • seafred

It is Austin the liberal capitol of the south…….duh………….

  • Well Done

The only effect the so-called “universal” background check would have is for there to be more checks on people who have already been cleared. And, as usual, persons who fail the existing background check are NOT followed up, despite that their failure to pass is supposed to require further investigation for outstanding warrants etc.

    • Patriot077

But they would also have a record of all the law abiding citizens who own guns. The criminals will always operate under the radar and in the dark of night so to speak. (First come background checks or gun registrations, then comes confiscation – historically. Check out the UK and Australia)

  • Roger Erwin

Austin is the liberal bastion of Texas, what makes you think the police chief would be any different. In the day, the police were respected as public servants who served and protected, but not only that they were neighbors and friends you respected as family and fellow church goers. Not today, now they are enforcers of the law, the respect is now exchanged for fear they might as well have a swastika on their arm and march lockstep in the fashion of the Gestapo. As for universal background check. All gun laws and regulations are an infringement and therefore UnConstitutional!

  • Wes

l suspect his sympathies lie south of the border and Mexico has a disarmed citizenry, except the cartel that is running the government .Wouldn’t all these wannabe Napoleons love that?.Is there anyone in public office that you would trust enough to take the guns out of our country and know they didn’t have ulterior
    motives ?

  • Stacey Sefcik

If you want to drop Chief Acevedo or the City of Austin a line to let them know how you feel about Chief Acevedo’s unprofessionalism…

  • Common Man

With his mentality, I’m surprised Austin does not have the murder rate of Chicago. Then again Dear Leader said we must be more civil toward each other after the Gabby Gifford Situation that was caused by a Right Wing Extremist, er hold on, I mean a Normal Democrat Voter and Supporter. Does ANYONE on the LEFT have any idea what the word “FACT” is, or how to UTTER the word FACTUAL?

    • ObamaFail

Sounds like we should just ban registered Democrats from owning guns. Sounds like a lot of problems will be solved. But if that happened, then the people trying to take away the 2nd Amendment will be the ones marching about the right to bear arms. And while marching, they’d yell, “We’re supposed to take YOUR right to bear arms away, not the other way around!!!”

      • Common Man

It has begun to confuse the hell out of me! I do find it fascinating that since 1982 ALL Mass Shootings (with only ONE exception) were perpetrated by Democrats. I think we should begin to talk about “Idiot Control.”

  • William Dean Sr.

This idiot has declared himself to be against Americans, the law and the Constitution. Needs to be removed from office as he has violated his oath.

  • Steve_J

Does Acevedo think those selling guns to criminals are concerned about background checks? Doubtful many of them even have licenses to sell weapons legally in the first place. But than it is Austin.

  • Ken Martin

to borrow a line from that intellectually stimulating movie scene with Adam Sandler and Col Sanders teacher look-alike- It appears somethangs wrong wit that Chief’s medualla oblagato..? sorry for spelling, not my college graduate..:)

  • Jack Burnett

Acevedo is typical of those that believe that they are in a special class that is more responsible, more intelligent, more entitled..and that everyone else is not. It’s funny that he says he has 1st amendment rights but criticizes others for exercising theirs and that 2nd amendment rights apply only to him and his blue pals. I’ll bet if he was included in the gun grab and had to leave his home and family defenseless, his tune would change and it would be in be sung in squealing soprano.

  • Robert S. Latimer IV

    Suck it chief!

  • JR48

I have no issue with him doing this personally. I have issue with his professional title being used while doing it. Inappropriate.

  • Scott M Sykes

I think we need to check the status on acidvideo, oops sorry must be my undeveloped brain that spelled his name wrong, Acevedo. Sounds like an Obamamite who has something to hide. Let his worthless p.o.s. backside come to AZ and watch what happens.

  • Richard Jefferies

Ah, the Police Chiefs, political appointees that provide the left the aura of legitimacy they need when they make statements like “police are overwhelming in favor of…”

  • Enik Three

Another reason to leave Austin, I guess.

    • Batman

Well, the only reason I would stay (if I lived there) is you’ll be getting Google Fiber soon. :)

  • Robert A. Davis

The douche is obviously a liberal turd that does not support the Constitution that he swore to uphold. He is like that other douche in San Diego that supports taking firearms away from law abiding citizens and ceding our rights to Illegal Aliens. Screw them both.

  • Cliff Hatfield

Just proves that liberals/progressives should never hold positions of authority. Ever.

    • DixieAngel_76

      Aaaa-a-aaaaay MEN!

  • detroit19

Interested in your data showing that criminals/illegals subject themselves to background checks. Oh, and btw, have you heard of ‘Fast & Furious’? Pretty sure NO background checks were involved, thanks to the DOJ, i.e., your bosses.

  • James Walker

This chief is the same chief that sided with the Occupy movement against the NYPD even as NYPD officers were being assaulted.

  • Keith Jones

Art, you are an idiot, and a sorry excuse for a police chief. You have an underdeveloped brain yourself, and you lead a bunch of trigger happy, Barney Fife , dog shooting cops. You sir, are a joke!

  • Steve

I used to work for this guy in East LA. Wow. I had no idea. I find it funny how police chiefs – who are unelected – think they know what is best for everyone else. Sad.

  • Joe W.

Typical for Austin. that’s where we Texans keep our liberals, gays, gangsters and professional students. They recently passed an ordinance prohibiting the use of plastic bags for groceries. You have to use a cloth bag or the like to tote your groceries. People are becoming ill because their bags are dirty and full of bacteria and they are contaminating their own food. Life in liberaland is dicey at best…

    • Bristel

There are gay people in Dallas, Houston and other cities and towns in Texas too. Don’t be a demagogue, leave that up to liberals.

      • Loretta Landrum Richey

Most Texans understand that type of tongue-in-cheek generalization and have an affection for Austin like the eccentric but lovable relative that we like to visit but are kinda glad when it is time to blow em some good bye kisses on our way home. Like they say, Keep Austin Weird and Keep the Weird in Austin and we are all happy.

        • Joe W.

      • Joe W.

Speak for yourself, pal. I prefer my gays in the closet, and not out parading in their fairy costumes in public and in our schools attempting to convince and indoctrinate our children into thinking they are normal. Their behavior is an abomination, and is sinful under God.

        • Bristel

And your behavior is an abomination unto God, don’t ever forget that.

And I don’t parade myself in costumes in public, thank you very much.

          • Joe W.

So just how is my behavior of heterosexual relations with my wife in a monogamous, exclusive relationship an abomination unto God, Princess?? Y’all don’t see heterosexuals flitting around demanding special privileges either. That’s what your kind does. Play safe, now, Timmy…

          • Bristel

Your obsession with homosexuals is well noted, Joey. In fact, it’s all over Twitchy. You blame anyone else for “moral decay” except yourself or your own “kind”. You “otherize” everyone else who doesn’t agree with you. Yet you don’t seem to realize yet that I am a conservative as well.

          • Joe W.

Oh boy, Timmy!! You mean I’m famous on Twitchy?? Way cool, Cupcake. What makes you think I care what’s “all over Twitchy”? You think this is some sort of school or club, pal?? Grow up. As for you being a conservative?? Nope. You may be fiscally conservative, but you are hardly a conservative in the true sense of the word. You may indeed vote Republican, and that’s fine. Conservatives do not support the gay life style OR the gay agenda. Again…and read this carefully, son: Being gay is NOT a sin nor a crime by any means. Engaging in homosexual acts IS sinful and morally repugnant. There IS a difference, you know? Probably not, though.

          • Bristel

And yet you go about talking to me, or about other gay people as if you KNOW that they are engaging in homosexual acts. In fact, it’s none of your damn business. You’re still obsessed, otherwise you wouldn’t find the time to make a retort about evil homosexuals every single time.

Go learn more about morality before you start condemning others for theirs.

          • Joe W.

I normally favor those who post to me with a reply, sonny. It’s polite. You’ll notice that YOU are the one who initiated today’s discussion fully 20 hours after my last post. You just had to respond to me, did you not? As for gay people engaging in homosexual acts, why else would you squeal and fling your purse around for “acceptance” if you were not doing such a thing?? If you were living a celibate life and denying your perversion, you would be in agreement with me. Clearly, you are not. That’s because you are weak. You have the urge, so you just satisfy it and claim normalcy and condemn ME as a bigot for calling your behavior what it is. And as I said earlier…go right ahead and engage with your pals all you want. Just don’t expect us all to pat you on the back and tell you you are special and that your behavior is anything other than reprehensible. Finally, I never said that you homosexuals were “evil”. I said that your behavior and life style is. And it is.

          • Bristel

Thing is, we don’t need YOUR acceptance. But there ARE some who seek it. It’s not up to you to give acceptance.

          • Joe W.

Then why are you devoting so much time and effort seeking acceptance, Scooter?? You don’t NEED to sodomize your pals, either, yet you do it. Drunkenness is a sin as well, Timmy. That is why, as an alcoholic, I have not had a drink in over 23 years, although there is not a day that goes by that I desire one. Sexual deviance is no different, son. Just say no to the sinful behavior and repent of your past sins. God will, indeed, forgive you and include you in the “Book of Life”. Continue to sin and not repent? Not so much. Oooops…I forgot…You don’t believe in Christianity.

          • Joe W.

Ok…I somewhat agree with the plastic bag ban. I hate them! They get caught up in my barbed wire fences, in the shrubbery and trees on my acreage, and floating in my pond… They’re a pain in my azz… I prefer paper.

      • Joe W.

I prefer paper as well, however, they do not offer paper bags either. You gotta bring your own bag in Austin.

        • $7610427

That, too, would be a pain…

    • Loretta Landrum Richey

Don’t forget the aging hippies and retro hippie wannabes and all manner of politicos and elitists

Yep. All those pseudo-academics that are so much smarter than the rest of us rednecks and “Teabillies”….

  • John Thomas “Jack” Ward III

In other words, Chief Art Aceviedo is not only against the second Amendment, but anyone who disagrees with him should be scolded like a five-year-old? This IDIOT MUST be a Kool-Aid drinker! The conservatives should move to Austin, take City Hall back in the next election, and fire Chief Aceviedo’s @$$! And if all else fails, PETITIONS, PETITIONS, PETITIONS to the Mayor (probably another crony), the Board of County Commissioners, and Governor Perry Himself.
    Then send Aceviedo to someplace fitting…like Cleveland, Tennessee, where the cops are Corrupt tp the hilt (or so I hear…). #RightWard Jawamax 8<{D}

  • Johnny Blade

Too bad law enforcement isn’t vetted as diligently as some would have rank and file citizens >coughcough<… No gun owning law abiding citizen would shoot up vehicles without VERIFYING the target… and this wasn't even a singular occurrence, just the latest high profile one. Maybe someone should remind mister I have a badge up there that he works at the pleasure of the citizens, not the other way around.

  • Stacy Meros

TWITCHY ROCKS. Keep up the great work. And back up your files!!!

  • David

another obama butt-boy!! drinks the kool-aid by the gallons.

  • kenstaff

Acevedo is just another typical Austin nut! He plays liberal political games to appease the liberal politicians (sucking up to the bosses). That’s why Austin is called the San Francisco on the Colorado!

    • The Floorguy

Actually, it got the name “Moscow on the Colorado”, a couple of decades ago.

  • Robbie C

I’ve had my own Twitter war with our Chief of Police, after I said that he was “little more than a Liberal politician and not an real police officer. Or, more accurately, a puppet of the Liberal establishment.”

Look, Art — I know you favor universal background checks because it makes your job easier. Especially when it’s time to start confiscating. Unwarranted wiretaps would also make your job easier. As would unreasonable searches and seizures. You know what else would make your job easier? If we could force suspects to talk against their wishes. Without an attorney present. Or if you could just plant evidence on a guy you just know is guilty, but can’t prove it. Perhaps if we made entrapment easier for you…

But these things are just as unconstitutional as the rest of Obama and Biden’s gun control fantasies. If you were half a man, Art (you’re not), you’d surrender your badge and gun and just run for whichever Democrat office you happen to most covet at the moment (Austin Mayor?).

  • DrSamHerman

Acevedo is a putz and a joke. As police chief in Austin, he’s sort of the head inmate at the asylum, like a “trusty” at the state penitentiary. Having met him several times, I can tell you he’s underwhelming.

  • NewWest 123

Is he by any chance Hispanic?? Not profiling although for many Hispanics (not all) , they support everything Obama and his cronies support cause of all the goodies and free stuff…. He will get some stuff out of this and has anyone checked his own status or his families… He is a Police Chief and they are appointed usually by a mayor etc., which usually also drinks the Koolaid … so this being said, what else would you expect????

  • Angie

The vile progs aren’t going to rest until Texas & the rest of the USA is a third world s**t hole.

  • Rusty Bill
    • JustLikeAnimals

      Ha! Love it!!

  • Selma Birch

Austin Texas stats under Chief Art Acevedo’s watch; Burglaries 58,000 plus, assaults 17,000 plus, rapes 16,800 plus and murders 220 plus and he has the nerve to call me a lying extremist because I choose to on a gun when the closest police station to my house is 20 minutes away and I am a disabled woman living alone with my 70 year old mother!! With stats like this I do not own a gun because I am an extremist, I own a gun because he is incompetent!!!

Not only is Acevedo unfit to be a police chief, he is unfit to be a Texan!

  • $9787932

Acevedo . . . . . is that an Italian name? Ohhhhh! I thought so.

  • Delphinus13

I guess ole Art, with his Bachelors degree from Laverne (from his bio) quickly found out how relatively uneducated he really is out in the real world. Go back to school Art!! You might learn something!

  • beebop1952

He’s a typical Austin liberal. No surprises here. Living surrounded by those who PRODUCE for a living. Quelle surprise.

  • Mark81150

Big city police chiefs are politicians, and haven’t been cops for a long time, if ever. Big city cop unions are a disgrace, no cop should ever put his unionista loyalty ahead of his calling, to serve and protect. I’m from a cop family, these urban libs are a joke..

So far removed from real policing, they may as well put on a dress and go home.

    • LibertysSon

That is very True. Elected Sheriffs reflect their community. Appointed police Chiefs are tied to the political machine and many times are hired outside the community. When the Mayor turns a corner too fast, their noses break.

  • joe63

just who is it that has the undeveloped brain………?

  • The Floorguy

Cities will always have “Hired Guns” to protect their elites.
Too bad we don’t elect these gate keepers, I mean servants.
As it is now, there is no accountability.

Sheriffs are elected and held accountable every 2 years, at election time.

Remember, it is only illegal, when you get caught. – Freedom

No one from the lowest dog catcher to the President should ever call out and/or insult a single citizen – be an adult and use your words to defend and/or explain your position. These people are Public Servants – and it is about time – they are taught that and remember it every single day. Hey Chief Acevedo – check out the Internet – CO sheriffs have publicly stated that they will NOT enforce any Federal laws that violate the 2nd Amendment – so not every LEO agrees with you – nor every American.

Isn’t a comment like that beneath the dignity of a police chief? He would probably be fired if it were any other city in Texas.

  • Michael David Vaughan

Ask this IDIOT just do we protect the 3rd and 4th amendments without the 2nd.

  • hoppyhayes

Why do not the citizens of Austin force the Mayor to fire this little fascist? He is more suited to be a prison guard than a semi political appointee. This little Liberal Trash needs to be doing something else, something that does not require a gun. This guy is dangerous in so many ways.

    • Rusty Bill

Unfortunately, Austin – the Capital of Texas – is a college town. Thus, it is infested with bureaucrats, lobbyists, thugs and moochers – the natural constituencies of the Democratic Party. Likewise Houston and Dallas. The rest of Texas avoids these pestholes like the plague.

  • Antonio Buehler

Acevedo is a scum bag criminal.

  • Sarah Stollak

I don’t want the cops to be the only ones allowed to have guns. The gang of coward criminals in the Austin police department keep using their weapons to murder men and dogs.

  • Sarah Stollak

There’s a police accountability group in Austin growing nationally, they are doing great work:

  • hoppyhayes

It seems this little fascist has no idea what he is talking about. Creating new laws tougher laws, restrictive laws on hones gun owner does nothing to prevent GUN related CRIME. Hey Fascist you sound like one of those crazy gun owner that go off and start spraying bullets in a movie theater. The people of Austin should demand that this nut case be examined to see if he is sane enough to own firearms. What prescription drugs is he on. He needs to pee in a jar, seems he may be delusional due to drug abuse. This guy left to his own devices will bring down Austin Mayor and City Council. Hey Mr. Mayor this guy is gonna wind up putting you into the pot to boil in your own juices. Leave this nut job in office and you will be looking for another job come next election, he is poison.

  • Rationalthinker

Typical Liberal…uses the Amendments only when it fits his agenda…just another A-hole.

  • errxn

And, finally, the rest of the country gets clued in to what we Austinites have known ever since this douchebag was hired….

  • robcrawford2

Police chiefs — who aren’t on the street, and who are political appointees — don’t give a rip about liberty. They’re politicians.

  • UtahJack

I can’t imagine the Police Chiefs of the departments that I served on conducting themselves in this shameful way or defending a class of lawbreakers while condemning a class of law abiders.

  • Jorge H. Acevedo

This gentleman has to be Democrat and liberal because his last name.Latin voted for OBAMA a quantity around 80% I,m Acevedo too,but Republican-Conservative from Puerto Rico!

  • JJTX

“”””Shortly after this post was published, Acevdeo deleted the following tweets””””
The last I knew, “deleting ” official government documents and communications is a violation of Texas law under the government code.
Maybe the Texas DPS needs to investigate this as a criminal act?

  • mashman

I live in Austin – IT SUCKS!

  • Bob Martinelli

I’m confused, you’re upset because he nailed the guy for having an undeveloped brain? He was right on. Most gun nuts can be put into that exact category. Now don’t you have some gun porn to watch?

    • greekdish

You’re a retard. Morons such as yourself and Acevedo dont have a fuggin clue what the UBC actually is, there IS NO loophole where violent felons get guns. It doesnt happen. Only criminals sell felons guns. Morons. There is no loophole where a felon goes to a gun store and buys a gun….he gets it either by stealing it, or avoiding the background check altogether. Mental midgets such as yourself believe any propaganda the Brady Bunch tell you.
