Team Rubio’s ‘no welfare for illegal immigrants’ claim takes another hit!/CesarConda/status/325086420383449088!/CesarConda/status/325076522169950208!/CesarConda/status/325072564416299010!/CesarConda/status/325071663710470145!/CesarConda/status/322302950921879552

That’s Cesar Conda, Sen. Marco Rubio’s chief of staff, repeatedly reassuring conservatives that the Gang of Eight amnesty bill won’t allow illegal aliens who obtain provisional legal status to obtain welfare benefits.

Betsy McCaughey, former lieutenant governor of New York, discovered that the no-welfare claim doesn’t hold up to scrutiny:

Expanding legal immigration will push up spending on food stamps, Head Start, housing subsidies, and other benefits legal immigrants are eligible for upon arrival. Though Section 212(a)(4) of the U.S. Code says no immigrant who’s at risk of becoming a “public charge” can get a green card, it is never enforced. Half of green card holders have household incomes below 138% of the federal poverty line, and they’re also largely uninsured.

Insuring these legal newcomers will add $100 billion over the next decade to the ever rising cost of Obamacare. The health law makes legal immigrants eligible for subsidized private health insurance as soon as they arrive. Half of these newcomers will qualify for maximum assistance, costing $9,000 per enrollee, according to the Congressional Budget Office.

But that’s not all.

A new analysis from Sen. Jeff Sessions finds that illegal aliens granted legal status will also be eligible for state and local welfare benefits. Via

“The Gang of Eight made a promise that illegal immigrants will not be able to access public benefits,” Sessions said in a statement to Breitbart News. “We already know that, once granted green cards and ultimately citizenship, illegal immigrants will be able to access all public benefit programs at a great cost to taxpayers. We have, however, identified a number of loopholes that would allow illegal immigrants to draw public benefits even sooner than advertised.”

Interestingly, Sen. Rubio has been more circumspect than his chief of staff. Rather than issue a blanket “no welfare” statement, Rubio specified that amnestied illegal aliens would be ineligible only for federal benefits:

“They don’t qualify for any federal benefits including Obamacare, no welfare, no food stamps.”

“And then they don’t qualify for any federal benefits. This is an important point. No federal benefits, no food stamps, no welfare, no Obamacare.”

McCaughey’s analysis indicates this, too, is untrue. At the same time, Rubio’s carefully-hedged language could amount to an implicit acknowledgement that amnestied illegal aliens will be able to obtain state and local welfare benefits.

In a related development, it appears that Team Rubio’s “illegal aliens have to pay back taxes” claim (see, e.g., herealso is bogus.

So is the “You’ll have to wait more than 10 years” claim.

Exit question: Has Team Rubio said anything about the bill that isn’t false?

Rubio once told the truth!

Rubio’s continued promotion of the amnesty bill continues to erode the appearance of any principles he might’ve had.

Why does it sound like you want Hillary Clinton to be the POTUS ?

      • SDN

Not playing that game any more. Let It Burn.

I’ll take Hillary over Rubio. Hillary may be complicit with Benghazi but Rubio is a Communist raised by an illegal alien communist father.

If I would have smuggled my wife across the border instead of doing it the legal way, we could have been rich. Now how messed up is that?

What is so hard about deporting them? Last time that happened is when Eisenhower deported hundreds of thousands of them via Operation Wetback.

I don’t know why Rubio doesn’t want to get rid of illegals. They’re here ILLEGALLY. Make them pay the price. He may be sympasizing with them due to drug lord activity, no doubt becoming more profitable due to Operation Fast and Furious.

I say that he takes a stance AGAINST illegal immigration, support military action against Mexican drug cartels (which in turn would liberate towns in which they overrun), replace the government with people who are far less corrupt than the current administration there, and help them boost their economy up (while in turn boosting ours up). That would solve almost every problem happening over there.

Rubio is an attorney. Jeb Bush is an immigration attorney. The taxpayers foot the bill for 100% of the “amnesty” and “citizenship”. Bush and Rubio will be instant millionaires off the taxpayers.

    Buh-Bye 2016!

I hate rubio. He’s as much a flim flam con man as ovomit. And I saw right through him, just like ovomit.

According to talk radio he is naïve and was duped. So in other words he is stupid and has no spine. That is not a very good excuse.

    • OneThinDime

The talk radio are sympathizing. Rubio is a snakeoil salesman and knows exactly how to grease his own pockets with taxpayer money.

I made it to the big time. Now part of my chat with Cesar is posted on one of my favorite sites. Cesar and Alex Conant would not answer the red flags posted on Senator David Vitter’s twitter. Senator Vitter used the hashtags #Gof8Fact and #Gangof8 to mark the red flags he found in the amnesty bill page by page.

We must make our Federal government enforce our existing Immigration laws. There is no need for amnesty or any immigration reform. Our immigration laws should take care of most of our Immigration problems. We have a bunch of politicians that only care about their reelection and could care less about the future of our country.
If this amnesty bill passes this country is in for some big changes and it doesn’t look good. HOW IN THE WORLD CAN ANYONE JUSTIFY COMPENSATING ILLEGAL ALIEN LAWBREAKERS? Our federal government officials take the American citizen as being a bunch of ignorant dummies. We need to stand up and fight for our country.

  • Susan Scherzer

But they get welfare now for the children that are born in the US. They get foodstamps, medicaid, housing, earned income credits, etc. because they can be 8 months pregnant, jump the fence, drop the baby that we have to pay for medical care for in the emergency room and that baby is US citizen eligible for all of our benefits in this Country for the poor.

  • BenY

There they go again. Using deceptive language to say what they don’t mean and try to fool us again. Rubio and the GOP are getting caught, we need real principled candidates who will reverse the destruction and not continue to preside over it. Enough of the pandering and lying.

  • Lionel Ducote

I want to burn down the statue of liberty!! “We got enough Already” Stop the madness and get there parents to support them. where the live now. No more hudelled masses, How about a tax break for the US citizens, and let the mexican govt. take care of there own.
