Marco Rubio’s press secretary likens non-citizen permanent residency to slavery

Mind you, he isn’t talking only about illegal immigrants. He’s talking about any non-citizen who lives in this country permanently, including millions of Green Card holders.

And by implication:

If this is Team Rubio’s strategy for winning over conservatives, good luck with that.

Marco Rubio’s chief of staff promises ‘the toughest enforcement and border security law in American history’

  • Nied’s Dead Horse

Somebody might want to polish up his resume’.

  • marcellucci

    Gee, Alex…thanks for the heads-up….
Let’s start shipping them home immediately……

  • Brad Donald

They have rights. IN THEIR COUNTRY. Rubio’s camp is now full scumbag accusing us of being pro slavery.

    • Brad Donald

And you can bet you ass that this spokesman did not just pull this out of his butt. This is most likely the thought process held by Marco himself and his staffers. They are stabbing the country in the back.

      • BenY

Exactly! This is the establishment GOP agenda. Rubio is not much better than McCain/Graham, he just hasn’t come all the way out yet.

    • Jim Russell

Here we go again. Slavery? I’ll give these goons 1 more day to play their rACE card.

Really Rubio? Ur spokesman? Ur in big trouble w/base pal!

    • V the K

Um, isn’t one of the big differences here that the illegal immigrants chose to live here VOLUNTARILY?

      • Rella

Illegals chose to cross the border knowingly breaking laws and disregarding the Sovereignty of our country. Slaves were forciably removed from their homes thrown in horrific conditions in the bottom of boats, those who made it here alive were sold as property and then forced to do pretty much whatever new massa declared and massa could beat and kill slaves at will. Illegals get free welfare, education, health care etc and can leave any time they choose. Yeah that’s totally the same thing.

  • Rob

Then maybe we should outlaw the importation of “slaves”

    • RblDiver

Heh, I bet if the US senate authorized reparations to these “slaves” those who employ them’d get rid of them quick!

  • ObsidianBlack6

Marco Rubio seems intent on making permanent enemies of the
people who used to support him… Unless he’s planning to switch parties and
wants to see the end of the national Republican Party just as it was
marginalized in California in the late 1980’s.

    • Brad Donald

He is on board for destroying this country.

    • mickeyco

I really admired him. I do appreciate him making these idiot mistakes early on. We won’t have to worry later on where he really stands.

  • Miss Clairee

Rubio is a sell-out! Vote him out!

    • blueniner

      Marco “Aminista” Rooooobio….

      • Jim Russell

        Marco Antoinette.

    • Kyle Lyles

Marco Rubio’s immigration plan is ‘a wolf in wolf’s clothing’

  • Mebake

huh? did I miss something in the past 23 years or so? The only right I don’t have is to vote on federal level and to be a juror, and those are just laws, no non-citizen should be allowed to vote for government, but other than that I pay taxes like every body else, I work, I shop, I live, I contribute…..just were is the slavery part come into play? dumba##es.

    • NRPax

Thank you for adding your view on it. Nice to hear from someone that his office pretty much attacked.

  • Sonya A. Willis

Very disappointing that there are prominent Conservative Twitterers attacking other Conservatives because we are rightfully calling out Rubio’s lies and amnesty shilling.

  • aegean1

    They’re not slaves, they’re CRIMINALS!

  • blueniner

    Alex Conant is an idiot!

    • Albert

This is Rubio’s position. Rubio is a sell out.

  • emaleroland

Checking the scoreboard, the only thing good that came out of Cuba was cigars, rolled on the thighs of sweaty Cuban, I mean virgins. (O;=

  • J. Cox

And this ladies and gents,is why the (R) party is dead,or in its death throws. We have been sold out by these RINOs time after time. They will be awfully disappointed in 2014 when the returns come in,and they show half of the base stayed home.No more (D)lite.

  • Stephen K

I voted for Rubio back in 2010. If Alex Conant speaks for him with this tweet, you can be sure that vote will be the last one he gets from me.

  • tcbaz

    Kids say the darnedest things.

  • TocksNedlog

    Didja hear that?

The Fonz is revving his engine . . .

  • TocksNedlog

Ya know, Mr. Conant — it’s a bit tough to believe your boss when he claims that the government is going to secure the border, seeing as how you’ve basically just endorsed an open borders policy.

  • $496051

Avoid slavery = leave the US now.

  • David Johnson

Nationwide E-Verify (with penalty against employer’s), secure borders, crack down on food stamp & welfare fraud (citizens only). Should solve the problem on its own!

  • Fredddd

So the tear down of Rubio and Cruz…it’s the leftist way.

    • Albert

As far as I know – Ted Cruz opposes Amnesty. Rubio is for it 100%. Rubio is leading the charge for Obama.

    • Gary Jackson

Don’t lump Ted Cruz, an actual Conservative, in with that treasonous Rubio.

    • Stephen K

Hard to pin it on the left when it’s Rubio’s own press secretary making these remarks.

  • anjullyn

If this is slavery where’s my slaves? I’ve got laundry up the wazoo for them to do.

  • Rob

The only “slaves” these people will be is to the Democratic Party because of they step out of line and think for themselves, BAM! social pariah!

  • Doug Sterling

Wouldn’t trespassing be a closer analogy? They are free to leave.

  • videosavant

    This is well beyond stupid,

Following this logic: By entering the US illegally, the volunteered for slavery, which means slavery it is not.

  • littleones

I’ll bet every slave in every period of history wished they could just go home, these can!

  • shelby

I wasn’t aware that “bidding blocks” were reopened in NYC and Charleston. I must live under a rock

  • mountainaires

Rubio has “lost the narrative” as they say. He’s burning his bridges now: Fox reports that the immigration bill is CHOCK FULL OF PORK including some for the Cruise ship industry, courtesy of one Sen. Marco Rubio!

  • GraceflLady

stick a fork in Rubio he’s done

  • Blake Waymire

This doesn’t seem to have been spoken in an official capacity, so I’ll continue to give Rubio himself the benefit of the doubt. Though he really needs to fire Conant after this.

If this is Rubio’s position, what little was left of his prospects has just gone down the drain.

  • HannahJK

What’s the point of a non-citizen PERMANENT residency? That’s what they are now. I guess we’d get them registered somewhere? There seems to be a stampede to register stuff. It doesn’t fix anything but we can quantify what’s not fixed?
I thought they were considering GUEST worker programs where they could only remain as long as they had full time work.

  • Rulz

” We haven’t had a cohort of people living permanently in US without full rights of citizenship since slavery.”

I find that extraordinarily hard to believe.

  • VL123

Wow…..Rubio is falling quick. Is there NOONE that’s not a RINO?

  • bo1921

Slaves don’t get the benefit of every government assistance program known to man. Can you imagine the reaction of “real” slaves back in the day to this modern version of a “slave”?

  • don

The price of sneaking in illegally.

  • SamIamTwo

How can the US be slave holders if these people are in other nations seeking to enter into the us illegally? This is one of Rubio’s press sec? So much for logic and good buy Rubio.

We have almost 5M waiting in line to enter the US legally and 11M illegals getting preferential treatment over them? We have 23M unemployed and want to flood the market with 11M illegals? Someone’s priorities are screwed up. JIMHO

  • 1CatEye

Marco, you are done! Nothing but a pretty face with no brains. How in the world do you have the NERVE to compare law-abiding Americans with slave-holders? You are supposed to be upholding our laws, not looking for ways to circumvent them! Secure our borders first, as stand-alone legislation, then we’ll talk.
Oh, and if they don’t want to be slaves, tell them not to bother to cross our border. Easy.

  • DurkaDurka

Slave owners don’t want to throw slaves out of the Country. We do.

  • Teddi
