Rick Warren: Sale of son’s home to fund new mental illness ministry

In an April 6 letter to members of the Saddleback Church, Pastor Rick Warren revealed that his 27-year-old son Matthew had committed suicide after a lifetime struggle with “mental illness, dark holes of depression, and even suicidal thoughts.” As he prepares for the anguishing task of sorting through Matthew’s belongings, Pastor Warren announced on Twitter that money from the sale of his son’s home will fund a new mental illness ministry.

Prayers and words of encouragement continue to pour in for the Warren family.

Now there’s a man with his priorities in the right place. I’ve been reading his tweets and it’s been so heartbreaking. I am not a religious person but I would send money to help fund that ministry in a heartbeat.

I admire your comment. Please don’t take this the wrong way, but knowing Rick Warren, he would rather have you know your eternal destiny is secured than have you donate to that ministry.

No offense taken :) I feel confident that I have lived my life in a way I can be proud of, no worries :)

This could be such a positive legacy for Matthew. So much about this subject is unspoken. Note: Of course I’m not implying that all mentally ill are potential mass murderers, but, Ann’s evidence can’t be denied. Plus, Matthew did murder one (himself).

“The one clear thread that unites all the mass murders currently being exploited by the Democrats is that they were committed by visibly crazy people who were unaccountably not institutionalized. But Democrats refuse to do anything about crazy people. Apparently, the views of families with relatives murdered by severely disturbed individuals are no longer relevant when it comes to institutionalizing the mentally ill…

…All the actual evidence — mountains of it, in peer-reviewed studies by highly respected economists and criminologists and endlessly retested — shows that limits on magazine capacity, background checks and assault weapons bans will accomplish nothing. Only one policy has been shown to dramatically reduce multiple public shootings: concealed-carry laws.

Unfortunately, there are no similar studies on the effect of involuntary commitment laws for the mentally deranged because no such laws exist anymore and therefore can’t be tested. But we do know that the number of mass public shootings has ballooned since crazy people were thrown out of mental institutions in the 1970s.

For most of the 20th century, from 1900 to 1970, there was an average of four mass public shootings per decade. Throughout the ’70s, as the loony bins were being emptied, the average number of mass shootings suddenly shot up to 13. In the 3.3 decades since 1980, after all the mental institutions had been turned into condos, mass shootings skyrocketed to 36 on average per decade.

Mass shootings don’t correlate with gun ownership; they correlate with not locking up schizophrenics…”

You’re right about that. One reason I and many of my family are alive today is my paranoid schizophrenic uncle was institutionalized. Yes, he got violent, and he was, very properly, put away. If he were released today, he’d try to kill someone as soon as his meds wear off.

And as usual the religious leaders of today know nothing about the WORDS that Jesus Christ spoke and magnified above His own name (Psalm 138:2 ).

2 Tim 1:7: “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a SOUND MIND.” Since sin is insanity (Exod 16:3) all modern bible revisers change this passage. If you’re saved you were given a “SOUND MIND” and you have been ACCEPTED IN THE BELOVED, of course this verse is also missing from modern “bibles”. When God saved me, He gave me a SOUND MIND; a mind that can see through sham, hypocrisy, prevarication, strut, show, falshood, treachery, and deceit; a mind that can find the truth (John 17:17) and rightly divide it (2 Tim 2:15), separating the genuine (1 Cor 2:13) from the plastic (Rom 16:18).

A SOUND MIND knows what to take and what to leave, what to accept and what to reject, and what is good and what is not. The mind that is SOUND is stayed on God (Isa 26:3) and is kept in peace (Phil 4:7), because it is the MIND OF CHRIST (1 Cor 2:16). This mind is not “SOON SHAKEN” (2 Thess 2:2) and is not “puffed up” (1 Cor 8:1). It has wisdom (Col 2:2, 3) and is not defiled (Titus 1:15). It is a “SOUND MIND” as the Holy Bible (AV 1611) says.

All modern “reliable translations” are the product of people whose “sound minds” abandoned them before they sat down to translate. They were given a SOUND MIND at conversion, but it was CORRUPTED (2 Cor 11:1-3) and became CARNAL (Rom 8:6). All carnal, puffed-up, corrupted scholars demonstrate their carnality when they attack the Holy Bible. Barring nerve damage, brain tumors, pathological defects, and birth defects, every sinner is given a SOUND MIND when he is converted. BEFORE THAT, HE IS MAD (Eccl 9:3), at least that is what the Book says (Rom 1:22).

You mess with that Book and God will mess with your MIND.

As someone who has experienced that mental pain of sin, AND the mental pain of post partum depression, I can say they are very different experiences. Like the stomach that hurts from guilt is very different from the stomach that hurts from food poisoning.

So I was crazy before I was baptized? Wut?

Rick Warren Partnering With Mosques To Teach That God And Allah Are The Same

Saddleback Church in Orange County, California, home to super-pastor Rick Warren (Obama inauguration, Purpose Driven Life, etc.) has joined forces with Southern California mosques to adopt a three-step plan for ending enmity between evangelical Christians and Muslims.

The plan’s first step calls for Muslims and Christians to recognize they worship the same God. Interfaith reconciliation has been proceeding for years between Muslims and more liberal-leaning mainline Protestant denominations.

This is the first such effort I’ve heard of by an evangelical mega-church. Many evangelicals regard Islam as Christianity’s number one enemy, and they do not at all agree that the two faiths worship the same God. This is likely to make waves.

The Rev. Rick Warren, pastor of Saddleback Church in Lake Forest and one of America’s most influential Christian leaders, has embarked on an effort to heal divisions between evangelical Christians and Muslims by partnering with Southern California mosques and proposing a set of theological principles that includes acknowledging that Christians and Muslims worship the same God.

Ok. Support him if you want, but know what you are supporting.
