Objective journalist Joe Scarborough: Senate gun vote ‘pathetic’; ‘We will get background checks’

He did his best, but MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough just wasn’t able to make universal background checks happen, despite inviting Vice President Joe Biden to appear on “Morning Joe” and repeat the administration’s bogus numbers on firearms purchases (not to mention some more nonsense about shotgun safety). What else is a gun control lobbyist — erm, journalist — supposed to do?

We don’t know what Scarborough’s plan is, aside from expressing his disgust with the Senate, but he assures us that “we” will get criminal background checks.

OK, so he admits he’s part of a campaign to “keep Americans safe” by restricting their Second Amendment right to arm themselves. Why don’t you bitter clingers just admit you’d be better off trusting the government to keep you safe from rapists and terrorists?

Yeah, those guys.

      3.) Pavlovian programing and violent media . . . ?

Anyone else think the only reason this even went up for a vote was to try and distract conservatives from the amnesty bill betrayal?

    • http://extremesplash.wordpress.com/ Ben Bollman

That is the first thing I thought, it’s not the first time they’ve snuck in legislation while everyone is distracted.

    • Zane Henry

I do believe you’re correct, sir. We have a rogue legislative branch. We should shake them over a trash bin and start over. I’m sick of the lot of them. Just awaiting Boener’s inevitable McCaining, due any time now.

      • http://extremesplash.wordpress.com/ Ben Bollman

He hasn’t done the full McCain yet? Could have fooled me.

        • Zane Henry

I don’t think they’ve planned the ceremony and reception, but he’s completed all prerequisite curricula, as far as I can tell.

There won’t be a dry eye in the house! We’re so proud of him…..

That probably was the anthrax scare’s job…if you believe in a false flag.

But the Bombing in Boston overshadowed that. And probably helped to kill the “background check” bill as well.

I think I’m in the minority with the folks here in the Twitchy community, but I think we may be missing the forest for the trees. As long as a background check bill is sensible and prevents a national registry, I don’t think it’s getting in the way of my 2A rights. I haven’t read the most recent bill, but provided it meets those criteria, I don’t understand how a law abiding person would oppose.

    • Clayton Grant

It is the camel’s nose under the tent flap.

      • Grumpa Grumpus

And we have so many examples of the “Camel’s Nose in Tent Leads to Camel Kicking Tent-Owner Out” method being used by “our” government that it would take hours to list them. People have absolutely no idea how much liberty we’ve lost since my youth (1920s)!

Before I became a hermit, when I’d get into political arguments with pimple-brained Progressives, (but I repeat myself…) I’d mention the erosion of Liberty via “The Camel Method“™

It never went well. I’d start listing methods used, he’d stop me to explain “The Camel Method“™ and, even after 3 or 4 examples, call me paranoid. After a number of attempts to explain it in a fashion they could understand — and failing, I’d often-as-not lose my temper and at that point all future opportunities to sway them to open their mind and use logic are lost. It’s very saddening —— and more-so that they are our countrymen and that they esteem their responsibility to defend The Constitution so lightly.

You might consider that last sentence hyperbole, but consider:
They vote thoughtlessly, never considering that — while they might never be called upon to spill blood to protect The Constitution and the Liberty that it vouchsafes byway of the mechanism of government it describes — they are no less responsible to guard and protect it.

And the government transfers not as it has since history was first recorded — by bloodshed, by terror, by highwaymen or jack-booted thugs — but in an intelligent and well-ordered fashion, where the rights and privileges of the Minority are respected by the Majority.

The inattention of the pimple-brained among us have turned history back to the jackboot era, where the leading thug panics and terrorizes the mass of people to follow him… or else.

I’m very tired now… dozing off while writing this. I need to rest.
        Sorry about abrupt ending.

        • Clayton Grant

You don’t sound grumpy, Gramps. You sound sane and like the rest of us, disappointed.

    • Billie Slash

      Read the bill.

      • Sons Thunder

It’s an amendment – have you read it?

    • Hiraghm

Well, you think wrong. The only way to change the 2nd Amendment is to amend the Constitution. There is nothing in 2nd that allows background check.

People use the generic term “background check” without thinking. What are we checking for? Today, maybe arrest records? Tomorrow, party affiliation? Opposition to communism? Using the N-word in public?

    • http://extremesplash.wordpress.com/ Ben Bollman

Trusting the Democrats to do anything they say they are going to do is the thing. Also, a computerized background check system will essentially create a registry whether intentional or not. Bloomberg’s shoddy system in New York that stripped a man of his guns because of a computer glitch is proof of that. Also, who gets to determine who is mentally unfit? Should mental health workers be given that kind of power especially if you haven’t done anything wrong? What if they are wrong? What if another doctor disagrees? Should we be punishing people who haven’t done anything wrong? These are the kind of questions that need answered instead of ramming heavily partisan legislation through Congress.

    • KansasGirl

I have no faith in government trying to prevent a natl registry.
In Missouri recently, the HP shared their gun owner list with SS.

    • v.l.

Why do we need more restrictions on law-abiding people in the first place? How is that gonna prevent crime committed by the ones that do not fit the”law-abiding” category?

    • TocksNedlog

Well, you know how WE all hate minorities around here.

[The above was a joke. What is NOT a joke is the fact that when it comes to the possibility of establishing a national registry, the federal government cannot be trusted at all.]

all the murders in phila are from unregistered guns. I know because I live here

        • http://twitter.com/rocky0320 michael

so put that in your pipe and smoke it scarborough

          • http://twitter.com/rocky0320 michael

the only thing expanded checks will do in phila is empower villians to do more home invasions, but that must be what people like scarborough want to happen

          • http://twitter.com/rocky0320 michael

can someone educate me how background checks will stop 8 out of 10 guys in philly from carrying unregistered hand guns ?

          • http://twitter.com/rocky0320 michael

so youll try to take law abiding citizens guns away but god forbid we impose 10 year mandatory sentences for carrying unregistered guns.

          • http://twitter.com/rocky0320 michael

th murders of these people like the Connecticut school shooting are terrible however compared to the everyday murders they are like .00010 of 1 percent out of all the murders committed with guns everyday and 99.99 %of them are with unregistered guns.

          • http://twitter.com/rocky0320 michael

I say 10 year mandatory sentence for being caught with an unregistered hand gun. if myou don’t have anything to hide then whats wrong with stop and frisk ?

          • http://twitter.com/rocky0320 michael

yeah 90 % of the wierdows like you scarborough, that’s about it. mr millionaire. it must be nice to live high on a hill with security guards and not have to worry about home invasions. I guess you wouldn’t need guns.my neighborhood is being pulled down by section eights but you don’t have to deal with that huh joe.why don’t we trade homes for a few months and then we will see how you feel about honest people being able to get hand guns.

We have background checks you dolt. Unfortunately they don’t include the mentally ill and criminals, you know the people who actually commit these massacres? What we don’t have and hopefully never will is a National Registry.

  • http://www.facebook.com/richard.jefferies.96 Richard Jefferies

Who comes up with these numbers? The gun industry couldn’t ask for a bigger proponent than Barack Hussein Obama. What’s post-Sand Hook guns sales up to 70 million? There were 16.8 million background checks run by the 30 day anniversary of Sandy Hook. It isn’t 90% of Americans, that’s ridiculous propaganda.

The battle isn’t over yet folks. Harry Reid voted against it so he could possibly sneak it into a completely different bill. It’s not over.

    • http://www.facebook.com/richard.jefferies.96 Richard Jefferies

It’s never over. He voted no for the same reason he didn’t want to bring it to the Senate floor, voting yes for him would be political suicide in Nevada.

  • Just Another Guy

Let’s start with background checks for those that want to call themselves “reporters” and see where that leads first.

Of course, a background check on Obama could have prevented a lot of violence over the past 5 years. I’m sure Ambassadors Stevens, if he was still alive, would agree, among so many dead Egyptians and Libyans.

  • W Randall

Does this guy even do any of his own research? That 90% is straight off the Obama for America site, no bias there…

Hey Joe let the authorities know about online sales without background checks, I’m sure they’ll get right on it.

  • JustLikeAnimals

According to the liberal-progressive gun-grabbers, 90% of Americans want more gun control. The problem is that, apparently, the other 90% don’t. The stats never lie!

  • lainer51

what is really “pathetic” is your morning show, Joe!

  • Kyle Bradelle

I’m so sick of these guys. You can’t buy a gun online and bypass a background check. I bought a gun online and, guess what? It was shipped to someone I designated who has an FFL (that’s a FEDERAL FIREARMS LICENSE). When I go pick it up, I’m sure I’m going to have to fill out the usual form, they won’t just hand it to me. If they were just going to hand it to me, I wouldn’t have needed an FFL person. Bunch of morons. They don’t even know one end of a gun from the other, but they want to keep everyone as ignorant as they are.

  • Stan

90% of voters don’t want new gun laws. 90% of viewers watch other networks. The background checks Joe wants is when Obama bends over, but he needs to watch out for Chris Matthews if he checks that background too much.
