Obama: Gun allies willfully lied about the bill. Pattern of untruths upset some gun owners and made senators nervous.—

President Obama gave the Senate a scolding in the Rose Garden this afternoon, declaring today’s defeat of the Manchin-Toomey background check amendment “a pretty shameful day for Washington.” He blamed “politics” for the failure of the legislation and, while standing alongside Gabby Giffords and tearful Newtown families, dismissed charges that he had used people as props for “emotional blackmail.”
Emily Miller of the Washington Times has made no secret of her status as a “bitter clinger,” and she challenged the president to enumerate the lies he thinks riled the tiny but “intense minority” of gun owners who opposed the legislation.
Well, there was that one widely circulated lie about 40 percent of gun sales not going through background checks. Is it not a lie if the White House prefaces it with FACT in all capital letters?
