Celebrity hive mind outraged by gun control vote

We know we’re not famous actors who earn a living playing make-believe, but would it be OK if just for today we pretended all of this righteous outrage was inspired by the Kermit Gosnell trial?

Everyone is spouting the “90%” number. Where do they get it? Their empty heads?

    • Saar

Blind sheep. they hear the talking points, tow the party line. If 90% wanted it then how was obama not elected by 90% of america? not a brain or a single thought between them..

      • jonesybabble

I think the 90 percent represents the number of celebrities who wouldn’t pass the background checks.

        • Well Done

jonesy, you’re probably correct. from my limited experience with show biz types, almost NONE of them are playing with a full deck.

      • Elke E. Wilhelm

My favorite has to be that Terry McMillan. I love how she laments random violence and then follows up with her desire to smack Rand Paul. lol You gotta love these people. I know this is not supposed to be funny, but damn it if they don’t make it side-splitting with their lunacy.

        • BenTheGuy

But she wasn’t proposing random violence, she was proposing very specific violence. And to a lefty, as long as the recipient of the violence disagrees with them, then the violence is completely justified. As long as it’s specific, of course.

      • VictorErimita

And why were Senators persuaded by the evil NRA if 90% of their constituents wanted the law? Celebrity hive mind is a great tem for what is on display here.

Terry McMillan wants to “smack Rand Paul dead in the mouth.” Because, you know, she abhors those violent wing nuts.

    • Jeff

I’ve been wondering the same thing. I hear Obama say it, so they must be getting it from him.

      • Katherine Noel Mumford

and, of course, that would be the unvarnished truth as lies would NEVER cross obama’s lips, right?

        • Orlando Cee

Actually, Barry makes Richard “Tricky Dick” Nixon look pretty damn honest in comparison, just as he’s taken Carter’s “worst president ever” title away.

    • Daniel Avrit

Seriously. Where are they getting it? Someone help me understand their flawed logic. Last I checked, only 4% believe that gun control is a serious issue in this country.

      • Kim

        http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/02/07/us-usa-guns-poll-idUSBRE9160LW20130207

Sample size = 1,700. Clearly representative of all 314 million Americans.

        • AMERICAN Kafir™(KAdams)

          Indeed!

        • FloridaPhil

I couldn’t find a sample size in that reuter’s link. Do you know where I can find a breakdown?

          • QuadGMoto

According to the article, the sample size was 1,772. (It’s at the very bottom of the article.)

            Here’s the actual poll results:

Quinnipiac University Poll Finding Near 100% Support
For Wider Background Checks For Gun-Buyers

Anyone see the glaring problems with those questions?

          • FloridaPhil

            Thank you.

          • Druid Biker

The question of do you favor background checks for gun purchases at gun shows, in Virginia, it is the law already, so it is not Expanded background checks, it is existing background checks.

        • Ken Alan Draper

That’s 1,700 over 6 states, that’s 283 people per state, how much you want to bet all the New York poll takers were in central park west? all the Florida voters were from south Florida? etc. etc. Polls are so easily rigged they should just be ignored completely.

      • Elke E. Wilhelm

You can’t understand them. It’s impossible to follow their flawed logic. Let’s just get rid of them. Stop buying their products and stop electing them.

    • okiepastor

ABC/WSJ poll. But another poll shows that only 4% of people consider gun control most important issue right now. But that fact won’t get retweeted!

      • ArtieThe1

Oh. Ok. A totally unbiased poll.

      • http://extremesplash.wordpress.com/ Ben Bollman

There was a Reuters poll also done by Quinnipiac University that touted the 90%, it merely said it polled 1700 gun owners and non-gun owners. No mention of party lines or where the sample came from. So yeah, another biased poll.

      • Thom Clark

        A Galloup Poll was 4% :)

        • okiepastor

          That’s the one

      • sardiverdave

Pretty sure the question was a little leading, too. I can’t quote specific wording, but, “Do you support common sense checks to keep guns from criminals and the mentally ill?” will get 90% support every time.

The libs then define what they want to do is ‘common sense’ and claim that 90% agree with them.

        • http://www.facebook.com/erik.stell.14 Erik Stell

          THIS!!!! 100% agree.

    • George Talbot

It’s a faked up poll that showed 90% support for ‘reasonable background checks.’ It used a question like, “Do you support reasonable background checks, or do you support killing children?” If you don’t choose one we’ll call that reasonable background checks.

    • Tom Anderson

Nah, not from the bathroom wall as I first surmised,,,, it was some Rutgers/NBC poll that asked if people support background checks. 90% said yes, they support background checks.

Newsflash; we have background checks, they are uniform and currently regulated by Federal law. Apply to all 50 states. Shocker!!!

No one has seen this bill including the Senators. The only thing that I could find was the press release saying what the bill would/would not do. Cant trust that.

Nowhere in the press release was there any inclusion of gun purchases for the mentally ill or enhancements for criminals using guns in the commission of a crime.
I don’t get the angst. Nothing was gained and nothing was lost.
But for the Hollywood idiots….the beat goes on.

      • Native American Potato

The part that they all leave out is the fact that of the 90% in the same poll the majority support the NRA background check views over Obama’s views.

    • Kim
    • Chris

Think about it. NO poll has 90% in agreement, unless it’s deceptively worded. “Do you believe that the violently insane should have free access to killing machines?”

      • sardiverdave

Yes, I believe ex-wives should still be able to drive cars.

    • Chris

Think about it. NO poll has 90% in agreement, unless it’s deceptively worded. “Do you believe that the violently insane should have free access to killing machines?”

“Do you support or oppose – requiring background checks for all gun buyers?” 91% Support, 8% Oppose

But compare with the earlier question: “Do you support or oppose – stricter gun control laws in the United States?” which was much closer at 53% Support, 42% Oppose

To reconcile those two results I’d guess many people who voiced support for background checks in the first question assumed that meant the status quo, not an expanded program. So the number is real, it’s just being misinterpreted.

Oh, a liberal arts college now represents all Americans? Jeez, sheeple, when are you going to wake up to the fact that the elites are manipulating you? And from the pictures you can see how petulant they get when they don’t get their way.

People are starting to get tired of having this agenda (all of it, not just guns) rammed down our throats. The arrogant ruling class needs to hear that we aren’t going to take it any more.

BTW, as an NRA member, I support background checks. Just the way they are. And as an additional FYI, most of the people at gun shows are FFL’s, so they do background checks anyway. Last time I bought a gun at a show we did a check. The whole “loophole” thing is a fallacy. Criminals don’t pay gun show prices, they steal their guns or buy stolen guns on the black market.

      • sardiverdave

Ask people if they think guns should be registered, or if gun sales between friends and family should require background checks.

      They know it’s a
lie! 90% of libs want expanded background checks because it’s a way to further
the confiscation of legal gun owners. The fact is that 100% of those so called
celebs are has beens and needing a platform. they sure have no issue making
money from movies/TV with guns but cry when they don’t get their way. Last
night I smiled for the first time in days, watching the Bozo cry like a child
      and pouting.

    • Karl Winrich

The problem with polls is that they are easily manipulated by careful wording of the question to elicit the desired response. So it’s easy for them to create this bogus 90% support number by just asking a loaded question.

    • David Johnson

Just another made up liberal poll!

    • http://twitter.com/traintoad Steve Kiehn

They saw it on the internet. It must be true. Ironically, they forget that 90% of the people are demanding legislation that will actually impact and prevent future tragedies, but 90% also know that’s impossible.

    • Brian Roastbeef

“Lies, damned lies, and statistics.” Of course, this number is too phony even to count as a statistic. Best just to file it under “damned lies.”

    • Tom Harvey

Obama made a point of repeatedly saying 90% in his lil anger rant after the bill failed. At first, i thought he was only doing that so low information people would get it stuck in their heads, but after reading these, im realizing t…he was right. Only a lot more celebrities are clueless then i could have possibly imagined. And i am reasonably certain that 95% of all numbers someone makes up out of thin air are 100% bullcrap 87% of the time.

    • lillymckim

Didn’t read your post before I posted but yes wth is with the 90% flatout lie!?

    • Thom Clark

      The
90% comes from several polls taken that had leading questions posted to
the people polled. Most asked if we should require background checks
for Gun purchases. Most people said ‘Yes’ including 74% of NRA members.
Now, the problem with these polls is that they did not request further
information. Yes, Most Americans WANT background checks to make sure
Felons and Mentally Disturbed people do not get weapons. What the
Democrats/Liberals failed to put forth, was that the NRA members,
Conservatives and Gun Rights proponents know that there is ALREADY a
background check system in place, and that we want it used. Dems/Libs
mistakenly believe that we wanted to be saddled with NEW laws, which we
did not. So the whole 90% thing is a truth, but a very misleading truth.

    • Tiffini

I asked this question too, I looked for the link and can’t find the one I used from a different comment, but from what I remember it was from a survey done jan or feb, of 1500 people asking if they supported backgrounds checks.

    • Ken Alan Draper

they got it from Obama’s ass, which is where he gets all of his stats from too.

    • Ken Alan Draper

the 90% came from a poll conducted among 1200 people in six states, really trying to reach all demographics weren’t they? the 91% came from Obama as he campaigned for gun control, Gallup found that only 4% thought more gun control laws were important.

I live in California. We background check every sale (no loopholes). Plus the state keeps all the records. So; while the rest of the country talked about catching up to us… our politicians are still debating taking whole classes of guns away… using the list created by background checks…

So to any idiot entertainer up there; you can say (or swear in one case) your not taking anything away… well; bs! Maybe not today; but it will definitely be on the table next time* and the registration list created by the checks will be the tool to do it.

    * a gun crime happens… that wouldn’t have been solved having these background checks…. just like this one where the perp took the guns from someone else…

All that these idiotic liberal have-beens have achieved is my undying hatred and complete boycotting. There are exceptions to this, but most of the time when some group swears up and down that “This is only the beginning! We’re not done yet!” that’s basically the last you hear from them, at least for a while.

  • George Washington Mclintock

Outstanding. Every thread on Twitchy should be these no-talents realizing they’re not as loved and important as they think they are. They are not even good at spin. We didn’t win anything? Interesting way to describe gun-owners getting what they wanted. 90% of gun owners. Since the NRA doesn’t give out it’s membership list, where are they getting that number from?

I only recognize, like, two names. Who are these people? Clearly, they are idiots.. but WHO ARE THEY? What internet presence (besides some twitter account that BILLIONS have equally) do they have? Here’s a hint: If it ain’t on the IntarWebs, it ain’t real. Movies and TV shows/news are, well, yesterdays news. My stepkid put it best: “I am not a Democrat or a Republican… I am Internet.”

  • Ntr

The whiny left got a heck of a smack down in not having their phony 90% gun-control support statistic didn’t stick. And, of course, the leftist celebrities come out with their keyboard fingers, and accompanying ignorance, to fully display their lacking grasp of how our government works. Also, they still don’t get that we’re a Constitutional Republic, not a Democracy.

What’s funny about all this though is that, even with the left-lean of our media and other institutions (like Hollywood) they still can’t force through their freedom-killing agenda. People, if we keep doing our little parts, there won’t be an overbearing, anti-freedom left in places of power in this country. Anything’s good to avert their fascism.

  • Ntr

When these lefty celebrities say something stupid on twitter we should all reply to them with #bobblebobble Then sit back, watch and laugh as they don’t get that we’re calling them bobbleheads. Beats trying to debate these idiots that are too idiotically dense, and self-centered, to understand what we’re saying.

  • Kim

Saw this around Twitter and feel it’s beyond fitting: “Dear Hollywood, you are our clowns, not our rulers… Now dance for us.”

  • Mark Wahlster

The 90% figure comes from a telephone poll of 251 people taken prior to the passage of the Brady bill in which case virtually all the people in the poll had purchased their guns if any of them owned any prior to National Background checks becoming the law of the land. This was like 20 years ago.
Has nothing to do with now nor does it have anything to do with reality.

First, President Pantload flashes his 20-year-old bogus 40% background check number like a Crip with a Glock, and now the 90%? I had no idea where they pulled that number from until you mentioned it.

Why can’t these leftist d-bags come up with more recent numbers to support their arguments?

So let me get this straight. The manufactured ‘ 90% will of the people’ should be heeded in this case, but in the case of the UnAffordable Care Act, which had about 76% of the American people opposed to it, in that case the will of the people was to be ignored because the President and his supporters knew better than we did what was good for us. Neither his arrogance nor his ignorance know any bounds. Does the President know that most people think he’s full of it? He doesn’t seem to care. It’s going to be a long 3 1/2 years.

Hey Hollywood: BACKGROUND CHECKS ALREADY ARE REQUIRED BY LAW!!!!! Also, the psychiatric records of mentally ill people ARE NOT NOW AND WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN discoverable by the new law.

But if you’re so unhappy, I suggest that you refuse to act in any movie or TV show that features guns or gun violence. Then you can go back to work parking cars and pumping gas.

Actors live by reading lines that somebody else wrote. That’s why they think more about how they say something, instead of what they’re saying.

Maybe expanded background checks would’ve passed IF they weren’t stupid enough to add too many things in with it that wasn’t acceptable. Personally, I don’t see what that would help, but if it doesn’t hurt the 2nd Amendment, ok.

I would estimate 80% of the country is opposed to any infringement on our right to keep and bear arms (in years past, I would’ve put that at close to 100%, but now you have to add in the STUPID UNINFORMED people to the list that would re-write the Constitution and Bill of Rights).

God help us to continue the fight and I pray that at least ONE person’s eyes are opened to what is happening to our country, and they, in turn open someone else’s eyes until we are saved from this insanity.

The Senate voted to responsibly keep Big Brother out of our lives. These people who claim 90% of the country were in favor are merely delusional and listening too much to the biased media. Their ire is raised because the laws proposed didn’t pass, yet none would have prevented any of the shooting tragedies over the last several years and would have been a detriment to law abiding gun owners. When I read this stuff it literally makes my brain hurt from the absurdity of it all!! It’s like one of them heard about this 90% crap and so then like a bunch of trained monkeys they all jump on the band wagon. Do they not have a brain of their own? Can they not think for themselves? But then why am I not surprised they are actors and they pretend to be other people for a living. Also, what really just pisses me off is when you see these “celebrities” spouting off this crap and then pretty much most of them have been in a movie/TV show where people use guns. So I guess that means that there will be no more guns in Hollywood for movies…who am I kidding those things aren’t meant for them it’s meant for us nobodies.

Also, what these whack jobs don’t understand is background checks aren’t going to stop crazy people/criminals. I’m sorry using common sense and logic (which is a completely foreign idea to them) you know that criminals do not follow laws and will obtain guns illegally (ever heard of gun trafficking???). Also, if this were passed and someone who passed a background check because they have a clean record snapped and went crazy where would that leave them.

Also what they don’t understand is that guns are not to blame. People who make the decision to use them to do harm are the ones to blame. I grew up in a house with several guns and rifles (my dad was a hunter) and I knew they were there but I never used them to kill anyone they mainly sat in a locked gun case and my dad in his 60 years of life never used them to kill anyone.

Again it comes back to being a people problem not a gun problem. They are blaming the person who set the bomb off in Boston but when there is a mass shooting the guns are to blame and not the person behind the gun…yeah like the guns instantly developed the ability to make rational decisions and make itself fire.

But again there I go with common sense and rationality…which should be considered super powers these days.

what about the 84 thousand women that were raped in the country last year… they dont matter…. just the “few” killed by raving nutjobs…. oh ya…. WHAT ABOUT Nearly 800,000 children are reported missing each year in the United States.

    According
to the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Juvenile Justice and
Delinquency Prevention, about one-third of those children have been
kidnapped, and about one-fifth were taken by non-family members.

If an average of 2,185 children are reported missing each day, what can we do to protect our kids?……….GUESS THEY DON’T MATTER….

So the rights of law abiding citizens should be infringed upon because of the evil ones who disregard life? I don’t get that….how about all you rich, humanity loving celebrities provide to the rest of us lowly peons some personal protection from gun toting security guards, like you have and then it would not be hypocrisy at it’s finest! Guess what, the knife yielding guy on the campus last week didn’t cause you to want a knife registry…and now we have bombs in Boston…are pressure cooker registries next? Get sensible and quit being so critical of people who want their rights preserved! Love one another and focus on something that could actually help with the violence…less violence in movies….would be a start!

  • tincan53

They all tweet the libturds talking points of “90% of America wants back ground checks.” Oh really? Where did that figure come from? Out of someone’s backside? Gallop poll indicates that 96% of Americans think that we DON’T have a gun control issue but rather a criminal control problem.

As we used to say in the Navy, “Standby for heavy rolls as the ship is coming about.” Well shipmates, the ship has set a new course yesterday. Our new heading is for “FREEDOM!”

  • http://www.facebook.com/Hueyjock Fred Baker

In case anyone is wondering why President Obama is thoroughly pissed, it was probably because he was believing the 90% number as well. Those in the beltway are really out of touch, just as those in Hollywood live in a fantasy world.

All I can say to all these idiot celebrities and some of them I liked until now. You live in a protected world the truth is we in the masses don’t have your protection we only have ourselves to depend upon. If you lived in our world you would have a different opinion about gun control. Fire your body guards for 5 years and come back and tell me how you feel then about the 2nd amendment.

  • Luke Gibson

Do these self righteous tool bags know that they do not speak for 90% of Americans? Just because collectively they rake in 90% of the US’ income does not mean they speak for the 90% of all people. For one, that stat is bogus. 90% of the people I know, or have spoken to about this subject, are opposed to these bills, and any further gun control legislature. Secondly, 100% of those people, as well as myself, have never taken part in any kind of survey relating to any kind of legislature. So you can take your bogus statistics and shove them up your ….. The American people contacted their Senators and suggested that they vote according to their beliefs. The American people have spoken, and their voice was more powerful than the voice of the cowardly dependent sheep. It was a fair vote, even if you want to say it wasn’t. The 2nd Amendment stands true, and it shall not be infringed.

Someone must have misplaced a decimal, or flunked percentages in the 3rd grade. The 90% figure has been stated so many times that people actually believe it. I know a lot of people, and only a small percentage of those I know are in favor of gun control. There is no way that the 90% figure is real. Anyone with a half a pea brain can manipulate questions on fake surveys and get any figure they want. It doesn’t make it real.

Not all of us are NRA nor are we all GOP, exhibited by Democrats voting against. Add to that, there are certainly a lot more than 10% of us. We are against having a record of any kind of who LEGALLY owns guns. That would make gun owners vulnerable to a hostile government, should they decide to confiscate them. Understand, the 2nd Amendment was originally written so that the population could protect itself, should the government turn tyrannical. Don’t forget that the Affordable Healthcare Act was overwhelmingly unpopular to Americans. That causes us to be wary of the government and, to some extent, actively engaged in limiting it.

  • Eric Kimbrough

What about the part where we don’t prosecute anyone (there have been 4 iirc) under the CURRENT laws. And I think 121% of the US supported background checks. That number is most correct since I made it up. And would the US gov’t pass a check when it violates its own laws?

Just what difference does a background check make when a person intent on doing harm, can grab anything and make a weapon of it? If background checks were that effective, then none of the shootings that happened, would’ve happened. Background checks are like restraining orders. If somebody wants to hurt another person, they will. Background checks don’t stop that from happening. A criminal knows they don’t need a background check, because the weapons they use usually don’t belong to them to begin with. Criminals don’t play by the rules. That’s what gives them the advantage over law-abiding citizens.

When I buy guns from gun shows, I have to hand over my ID, go through a mountain of paperwork, get called in, and then and only then after a background check do I get the gun. ALL licensed gun sellers have to do background checks. If you do not want person to person sales at gun shows then tell the people they can only buy from Licensed dealers. Jeez people, why do they not take a stand and make their local governments enforce the GUN laws that are already on the books and then make them address recidivism at the same time. Oh and perhaps some could since they make enough either invest in a program for spell check or a dictionary.

After reading the poll results did anybody tell these fools that it was only conducted in 3 STATES!!?? Even if the differing questions and validity of that “poll” were confirmed it still had nothing to do with opinion in the US. Also, we don’t govern based upon polls. Why don’t they simply do this through a constitutional amendment if “90% of Americans support” these things? It’s sure to win under those circumstances. I guess we will find out in the next election cycle about that “90%” figure. By the way Rosie, you left Harry Reid off of your list of NO voters. Tawny Kitaen? Seriously? Their tears taste sweet.

Look, gun control is a failed policy. The premise of gun control laws are that they will prevent crimes. Laws don’t prevent crime, if they did there would be no prisons. Gun control laws will not prevent the next mass killing, and there will be more of them. With that in mind, look to other strategies to overcome these crimes. I carry a concealed handgun, and encourage others to do the same. Protect yourself.

  • burbanite223

  • JeffreyFuller

I believe, for once, there was more logic behind the failed vote than many are giving credit to. To vote for the bill under current pretenses sends the wrong message. I think background checks should be expanded to gun shows, but to do so on the pretense that it will protect people from mass shootings, such as the one’s most recently experienced, is way out of line and Stinks of nothing more than a federal gun grab.
