Boston Marathon aftermath: Reports of apartment search/‘raid’ in Revere, Mass.

Boston-area TV station WBZ and several others are tweeting tonight that law enforcement officials from all levels of government are searching an apartment building in Revere, MA.

Some report that a search warrant has been issued.

A woman who says she lives in the building says authorities have been there since 5pm.

Twitchy will update with any late-breaking developments.

Update:

Hmmm.

Flashback May 2012:

Police officers attempting to question a man forced their way into an Ocean Avenue apartment and arrested the occupant Wednesday night, after a fire broke out in the unit, Capt. Dennis Collyer wrote in an e-mail.

“Officers forced entry and found curtains set on fire and (the) suspect in (an) adjoining room with his hand up yelling, ‘Don’t shoot me,’” Collyer wrote in an e-mail Thursday.

Police arrested and charged Mounir Rhoulam, 34, of 364 Ocean Avenue, Apt, 209, with indecent assault and battery on a person 14 years old or older, arson of a dwelling, malicious destruction, furnishing false name at arrest and disorderly conduct on Wednesday at 10:13 p.m., according to the Police Department media log.

Collyer wrote in his e-mail that officers responded to the Ocean Avenue building after a security guard reported a “suspicious man” in the building’s garage area…

According to some tenants feedback, that area is a dump:

Chelsea borders Boston, Revere is on the other side of Chelsea. Revere does not have a large Arab population. Where in the Boston area do you live?

Revere most certainly borders the city of Boston, the East Boston neighborhood specifically. Revere contains a relatively large Moroccan community compared to other areas of Boston, and many of them live near the Revere Beach area where this raid took place. I live here among my Muslim neighbors all of whom seem to be decent, active, friendly members of the community and own many small businesses. Where do YOU live?

Curious about that, too. A small Islamic group probably would jump for attention. But a state-sponsored group might not – especially if the Iran-NK axis supported them. They would actually benefit even more by dividing Americans over it, by not claiming credit. Cui bono.

Nice to see locals contributing to discussion during the news blackout, and sticking up for good Muslims at the same time. Carry on!

East Boston is across the harbor from Boston. East Boston doesn’t even border Boston. Revere on the other side of Chelsea, across the harbor on the other side of East Boston isn’t “bordering” Boston. Having a large (in your opinion) Moroccan population compared to other areas of Boston doesn’t equal “a large Arab population”. Where do I live? Currently Los Angeles. Where did I move from last year? Revere, Massachusetts. I’m also extremely familiar with the building where the search was held – it’s actually on Revere Beach and faces the ocean, has a fantastic view of the annual sand castle contest.

Revere is near Boston, doesn’t border it. Revere does not have a “large Arab population” It has a large Italian population. But you go ahead and jump to conclusions.

nickelback’s initial comment was actually insinuating the bombing was done by an Arab, he jumped to conclusions, he wasn’t sticking up for Muslims.

    O_O

East Boston is not a separate city. It is a neighborhood of the City of Boston. Revere borders it.

I live here too. There are at least five Arab markets within 10 minutes of the beach. Recent years have seen an influx of Moroccan immigrants and they are a regular fixture of the neighborhood here. I did not say they are in the majority. It goes without saying that Revere is Italian majority.

Absolutely not. I was posting relevant information. The authorities in this country have surveilled Arab communities ever since 9/11. I am Muslim myself. You really should relax.

  • Michelle

Well, we’ll have to agree to disagree on what “bordering” a city means. I don’t consider ACROSS THE HARBOR and on the other side of EAST Boston (also across) as “bordering” Boston. I lived there, the city has as many Dominicans as it does Arabs. It has as many Haitians as it does Arabs. In your initial comment (which has apparently been deleted) you absolutely implied that just because law enforcement searched an apartment in the building on the beach, and in your opinion Revere has a “large Arab population”, that it must have been an Arab. Shame on you.

I don’t get what’s so hard to understand. East Boston is part of Boston city proper. A city cannot share a border with itself. It is patrolled by Boston city police. A separate city such as Chelsea does indeed also border Boston by water. This exchange is really bizarre.

It seems that someone deleted my first comment. I thought it was relevant to the events being reported. Our over reaching government has scrutinized the Arab and Muslim communities for years now. By posting this I was not insinuating an Arab person committed the crime. You are the one who has kumped to conclusions.

Because the police are looking at someone does not mean they are correct. In fact I expect a heavy-handed presence in local Muslim communities from noe on, as we observed in the New York area in recent years. My wife is Iranian and though not devoutly religious is already nervous.

I dont understand why your comments are so hostile. I also don’t understand why my first comment was deleted.

  • Michelle

If your comment wasn’t inappropriate and out-of-line, what’s your best guess for why it was deleted?

? Who knows. I’ve relayed the very same information in my subsequent comments and they are still here for now.
