Late-night TV viewers cringe at 'awkward,' 'embarrassing' Letterman harangue of Lindsay Lohan

Troubled actress Lindsay Lohan put on a brave Twitter face earlier tonight, but there were no winners in the latest David Letterman late-night publicity stunt. His badgering and mockery of the tragic Lohan — to her face — had viewers of all backgrounds cringing.

“Awkward.” “Embarrassing.” “Sad.” Exploitative. Take your pick.

Lohan is at least honest about her issues.

Letterman the clown misogynist perv, not so much.

Unfortunately, when you sit down with clown misogynist pervs … well. Ew.

What is unfortunate for Ms. Lohan is her parents are trainwrecks and that limits her ability to have a decent support system ….I really hope Ms. Lohan gets the help she needs.

    • James Atkins

Well, liberals destroyed the “family”, so.. I don’t have one ounce of pity

  • John (it true me am)

Never been able to stand Letterman. While all late night hosts are pretty damn liberal, even my beloved Conan, Letterman is the only one who wears it on his sleeve and relishes it despite alienating the audience.

    • zoeUNltd

R U kidding me ?!!! conan is just as obnoxiously liberal as letterman !! even my husband can’t sit through his crap anymore. i’ve always thought he was about as funny as an ebola outbreak myself. megalomanic twit seems to be the pertinent criteria when hiring for late night TV.

      • John (it true me am)

What are you talking about? Letterman is a million times more blatant than the other hosts. Conan, Leno, etc. are all liberal, as I said, but they don’t come out on stage and shove it down your throat in anywhere near the same way as Letterman does. Sticking with Conan, he gets outright uncomfortable when guests start bringing up party affiliation(a few years ago he notably backed even Michael Moore off the subject).

Of course they are liberal, but if you think any of them compare to Letterman I don’t know what to tell you.

  • Chase C.

I thought she handled it well. Letterman has always been terrible at what he does.

  • PopArt

So let me get this straight, Leno is the old, out of touch late night comedian who MUST be sent out to pasture ASAP in favor of the oh so edgy Jimmy Fallon who finds creative ways to diss conservative women and kiss the royal bootux of Dear Leader. And the nasty hater Letterman is just fine where he is. Can we send all these executives and hosts packing? Preferably groceries at Walmart?

    • cgraham77

Hopefully they’ll see the audience response in the ratings.

Would be nice to see Leno over at Fox, if rumors pan out. I’d think its a good fit (programming-wise). And I think other Fox viewers would appreciate his presence.

Leno is by far the superior late night host. I never understood the whole Fallon thing…he’s so friggin BORING!! Good grief.

      • Blake Waymire

Most of the late night hosts are boring. I’ve only seen Letterman once recently (last year, Girls’ Generation made an appearance on his show to promote their first US release, so I had to watch). He had a couple of okay jokes at Bill Clinton’s expense, but other than that, he bored me out of my mind. Leno, on the other hand, is bloody hilarious. I used to have all of his “Headlines” segments in a playlist on Youtube, before NBC axed all of them.

        • ChelieinTX

If you can manage to stay up late enough (which I can’t, dangit), try Craig Ferguson. I love him – he’s silly and really doesn’t try to be political or ambush anyone. Plus, he’s a Scotsman and we American girls love foreign accents! :)

          • Blake Waymire

I don’t stay up that late, but I try to catch his monologues on Youtube (he actually enjoys that those end up there). I find him hilarious.

Craig also became a legal US citizen, unlike a certain gun grabbing brit.

    • http://twitter.com/thetugboatphil TugboatPhil

Please don’t give them any suggestions! I don’t trust them with my groceries.

  • cgraham77

Letterman is a dick, and a horrible talk show host. How he’s managed to stay on the air telling the SAME old and tired jokes year after year is beyond me.

Not a fan of Lohan but she handled it as gracefully as anyone would have. Don’t blame her for not wanting to talk about her addiction problems during an interview without having discussed it first! And she shouldnt have to, its a private and personal matter. He ambushed her.

    • nc

Totally agree. I’m certainly no Lohan fan but in this short clip you could see her attempt to push back at that ambush, all the while knowing the camera was on her. Like a professional. So many “new starlets” today would have gotten nasty and told him to eff off.

Now if she could only face her addiction demons as gracefully…

      • cgraham77

Agreed. She needs to stay on the wagon once and for all! She has plenty of resources at her disposal. And irks me how these stars continue to get preferential treatment through the judicial system.

On the other hand, I also wonder how much of a chance this girl had (at least in her younger years)…her family is a psycho mess. And I’m sure, as with other stars like her, she is surrounded by enablers all day.

Not sure how good I would have turned out if I had been given carte blanche, to do as I please as a child, without any real parental supervision or any (legal or otherwise) repercussion. The thought is scary!

    • http://www.facebook.com/brett.mcmicken Brett McMicken

when she look off to the side in that video, she looks as if she is restraining herself from jumping over that desk and strangling him

  • PopArt

Oh and Mr. Letterman, THIS YEAR is NOT the year to feature “Things You Don’t Want To Hear From Your Accountant.” as your Top Ten count down. Do you despise your fan base that much?

  • stellatruman

How is this entertaining ? How is this funny ? How is he still on the air ?
I am not a fan of either , but this was terrible

  • Love of Country

He did the same thing to Paris Hilton. And if David Letterman can make you feel sorry for a beautiful, billionaire, trust fund baby/unapologetic hussie and DNC-supporting ex-con whose never had to work a day in her life then you know he’s an a$$hole of the highest order.

And then there was Bill O’Reilly who had me feeling sorry for James Carville last night …. James Fricken Carville …. can you believe it? Never mind I just can’t stand watching people get bullied and during interviews on TV are no exception.

    • John (it true me am)

How was O’Reilly bullying Carville? All he did was quote statistics. 😡

      • jgeorgia2000

You do realize Libiots hate math. It forces them to think and since that hurts it is obviously bullying. LOL

      • Love of Country

Bill was on the verge of berating him as if he was expected the gunslinging Carville of old and was not about to be outdone. He acted and looked teed off at James the whole time, who was, in contrast, quite congenial and a bit taken aback by all the unnecessary vitriol. Bill should have realized his bravado was completely one-sided and made some quick adjustments to reflect such observations …. he never did, nor would he.

I loved O’Reilly back in the 90’s back when he was bold and fresh but he’s turned into a real ogre since then. And whose he got on every week? Colmes, Goldberg, Rivera and Corolla … the guy’s lost his mind. No longer good for more than 12 minutes (or two segments) each and every night, on average, IMHO.

        • John (it true me am)

Carville could have been a 10 year old girl scout, he still wouldn’t have been bullying him just by stating statistics which Carville then tried to lie about. I’m not the world’s biggest O’Reilly fan, I’ve taken issue with him many times and tend not to watch on a regular basis, but this is still not an example of bullying in the slightest.

          • Love of Country

He treated him like crap, end of story.

I’ve watched BOR for years, mainly because he usually has a great guest list and I always took his “bloviating” with a grain of salt. But since the overwhelming success of his latest books, his already massive ego has gotten completely out of control and he has now become this close to unwatchable. Notice we haven’t seen the body language expert lately? Is Mary Katharine Ham still on? If not for Watters’ World, I don’t know…

          • Love of Country

And sometimes, I’ll be in the mood for Fox so I’ll turn it on even though I know it’s O’Reilly’s time slot and within the first 15 seconds of hearing Bill bloviate, I switch the channel in disgust. Just like tonight. I watched a taping of …..

            +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

WE INTERRUPT THIS POSTING FOR THIS BROADCAST ALERT.
I REPEAT, WE INTERRUPT THIS POSTING FOR THIS BROADCAST ALERT.

MICHELLE MALKIN WILL APPEAR ON HANNITY IN APPROX 10 MINUTES. TIME NOW …. 8:12 CST.

          • nc

I saw her, in all her righteous anger awesomeness. But really, putting her up against that Marshall lib-zombie was hardly a fair fight.

          • Love of Country

I loved it when she was saying that her kids were not for the Left to mold, indoctrinate, and turn into little liberals (paraphrasing).

And the end she named some big city cesspools (my word) and referred to them as hell-holes …. I think that’s gonna generate some controversy, lol … love it.

    • Harry A

      SO MUCH TRUTH IS THIS!

    • nc

      You nailed it.

  • kayakingfatso

They’re both morons. Lindsay knew how the interview would go. She only has herself to blame to expect any different, but apparently she had a fantastic time. If she didn’t want to be asked questions about her addiction(s) and other problems, she should have stayed home. What did she think the interview would be about?

  • Jack Deth

I gave up on “late night talk shows” after Carson retired.

Looks and sounds like it was a good thing I did.

Carson was a great and generous host and interviewer. While Jack Paar was a brilliant
monologist, And Steve Allen blazed the trail and set the template.

What has occurred after Carson is not worthy of my time.

    • jgeorgia2000

      Completely agree

  • Maxx

Letterman is over. He hasn’t been entertaining in more than a decade and has essentially morphed into a liberal version of Walt Kowalski.

  • http://www.facebook.com/brett.mcmicken Brett McMicken

she should have turned the tables on him and asked him how many employees he has been cheating on his wife with this week.

  • TEXANONLY

Why are people even watching this mentally challenged wannabe man.

  • notenoughtime

Letterman is an a**. Maybe an interview where all of his skeletons are brought up could be entertaining. Lettermen is hardly the one who should be berating Lohan since he has certainly not led a stellar life.

  • Guest

Letterman is truly unhinged. He was forced to admit that he had sexual relationships with several of his female staffers, but the calls for a boycott of his sponsors? The feminists protesting his show? The calls for Letterman to be fired for sexually harassing his young staffers?
    .
Imagine the outrage if Rush Limbaugh had admitted to having sexual relationships with female staffers whom were half his age. There would be boycotts of the Rush Limbaugh show. There would be protests outside of his office by nearly every feminist group in the country. There would be calls for Rush to be fired for sexually harassing his younger subordinates. But Letterman, the darling of the left who made jokes about Sarah Palin’s 14 yr old daughter being raped? … Nada.
    .
Embassy Suites was the only company that pulled their advertising from his show.

  • Pat

Who watches this show anymore? That was like watching this guy club baby seals. Sick.

  • dunst43

I don’t think Letterman was ever all that funny. I still remember him making fun of some old lady on air on the phone back in the late 70’s or early 80’s on daytime TV. Never a fan.

However, I think it was great that he called out this at risk 26 year old and shamed her for her behaviour. Rehab is a blessing once, maybe twice. More than that is a lifestyle choice.

  • Guest

The shallow and narcissistic Letterman pandering to his followers.
There is NO level too low,
to which he would not stoop,
for a moment of adulation from his easily amused mob.

  • http://www.vatican.va/ Rulz

Letterman is a liberal male. Of course being around him will make a gal feel awkward.

  • Mike Peterson

I thought Letterman was worse than usual in the clip i saw, time to retire and replace him with Craig Ferguson. The only time I watched him was when Bill O’Reilly was on and called him on his BS like i wanted to do every time i saw him. If Leno goes to Fox and Fallon move up to the Tonight Show, it maybe the end of Letterman cause everybody wants to be on with Jay and the Tonight Show has such prestige around it (no matter if it was Jack, Johnny, Conan, Jay or now Jimmy), and a lot of people like Jimmy Kimmel(spelling) I mean he’s done.

  • yestradamous

If he hadn’t brought the rehab up, it would have been like the big elephant in the room.
Read the Daily Mail and she’s on there, well, daily, coming out of a club, under the table in a club, posing in Brazil in a Bikini after nights in a club. She’s all party, all the time up to like yesterday.
For her to sit there prim and proper and not talk about the very thing that keeps her in the papers, and that she USES to keep herself in the papers, because drinken bikini shoots don’t just spontaneously occur, is ridiculous.

Surprisingly, Letterman abandoned his usually hip persona and, instead, opted to bully a young woman attempting to fight off her many demons. It has backfired on him and just might be the positive launching pad Ms. Lohan desperately needs. I wish her luck, Letterman’s barbs, notwithstanding.

  • DurkaDurka

Letterman was more polite than his usual performance of raping his own employee’s.

  • G.

It’s been said that Letterman has an auto-masturbation hand built into his desk chair for those times he speaks of a Palin daughter being raped, or having leggy women or men on his failing show…I dunno know, maybe it was Harry Reid who said it after he spoke of Romney not paying his taxes. Hard to tell anymore….
