Happy warrior Dean Cain asks, does gun control work?

On the eve of tomorrow’s gun control debate on Capitol Hill, Jim Carrey might have spammed the nation’s senators on behalf of “most people,” but he’s not the only actor weighing in. As the government considers extensive new gun control legislation, Dean Cain is simply asking, does gun control work?

The linked video considers the effects of Australia’s semiautomatic weapon ban and federally financed gun buyback program.

The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in Government. – Thomas Jefferson

If gun control isn’t tyranny I don’t know what is !

A fact of life and one that is Never mentioned when Americans speak of the 2nd Amendment…and the reason it was written. Protecting yourself from criminals was just the cherry on top of the cake….sadly.

Excellent video. A result that the libs can’t wrap their heads around, but is guaranteed to happen if these dopes aren’t stopped.

  • AaronHarrisinAlaska

Of all the debates, the numbers, the rhetoric, the semantics this is the question that gets ignored the most and is the one that should be at the forefront. Does it work?

    • angeleyez

Citizens at the scene are the ” First Responders “.
Police are the ” Back Up “.

      • http://www.facebook.com/100000112736669 Herman Vogel

No truer words were ever spoken. But the term “First Responders” was Made up by the PC, gun Grabbing crowd to make it look like the Police are right outside your door if you need them. In reality, and we live in a roural area as do a lot of those peope in Austrialia,,the sheriff doesn’t get here until the crime it over and the damage is done and that may have taken several minute to hours.

    • E Quilibrate

Work? It depends on exactly what the real goal is. I think
we all know what that is.

    • Joe Dokes

If one is a statist whose goal to disarm law abiding citizens –> put them at the mercy of criminals –> skyrocket rates of gun crime –> demand imposition of increasingly dictatorial “security measures” then yes, it works like a charm, everywhere and every time it’s been tried.

If one honestly thinks it will reduce crime…no.

  • http://extremesplash.wordpress.com/ Ben Bollman

Good luck on getting anyone here to give up their guns just because the government said so, we don’t work like that.

    • sickandtired

Ben it is already happening. Please be informed and read….

      • http://extremesplash.wordpress.com/ Ben Bollman

I realize there is legislation coming but most of us won’t give up our guns without a fight, a physical one if need be. The government cannot infringe on our God given rights, the Bill of Rights is there to protect us from the government and we will protect ourselves from them if need be.

      • Jason Hunt

My understanding is that, because the Bill of Rights supercedes regular law, we do not have to obey any ‘illegal’ law; that is, any law that contradicts the Bill.

  • Lilac

Australia was foolish and is now reaping the rotten harvest. I work in an armed industry in Australia, but there aren’t many of us. Nobody has protection against escalating gun crimes. The average person cannot own a gun without fulfilling reams of ridiculous requirements.

  • Carolyn Smith

    thank you Dean Cain.

  • http://twitter.com/thetugboatphil TugboatPhil

What will the law look like when it’s written? Are we to expect honesty from the same people who rammed through a 2500 page health care bill without reading it and still tell us “we can keep our plan if we like it?”

There is NO telling what will be hidden in this, apart from the obvious hazards we’re focusing on right now.

Here is just a snippet of how poisonous the Dems innocent background checks are…

FYI, under Chuck Schumer’s proposed legislation, S. 374, a/k/a the Fix Gun Checks Act of 2013.

EACH would be a felony for the seller/transferor and/or the buyer/transferee and each weapon would be a distinct violation. NO SALE OF GUN IS NEEDED FOR VIOLATIONS

      Pursuant to S. 374:

      * If you leave home for more than 7 days and leave anyone at home, that becomes a felony illegal transfer. 5 years in prison for each of you…for EACH weapon.

      * If you take a friend shooting and allow him to fire your gun, that is a felony illegal transfer. 5 years in prison for each of you…for EACH weapon.

      * If you have a gun lost or stolen and don’t report it within 24 hours, you’ve committed a felony. 5 years in prison…for EACH weapon.

      * If you lend a gun to someone for to try out at the range, provide a loaner for a student in training, let your son shoot a rifle you purchased while hunting, or provide a gun to a woman for self-defence, you’ve committed a felony. 5 years in prison for each of you…for EACH weapon.

Also, if a doctor checks a box without your knowledge then you can never own a gun. So visit a shrink and lose a gun.

  • http://www.facebook.com/mike.tressler Mike Tressler

I lived in Australia for 5 years and home invasions are out of control! I had 10 men break into my home while my family was there…TEN!!! We were lucky as they stayed downstairs and did not try to come up where I was prepared to make a stand in the stairwell. The police did not have officers to respond so the desk sergeant grabbed a station wagon and got there as fast as he could. They were long gone. They broke into many homes in my very nice neighborhood while people were home. They had no reason to fear. This whole thing is a sham and unconstitutional! I am sad for our country and will vote accordingly.

    • http://www.facebook.com/100000112736669 Herman Vogel

The problem with voting is that there are a LOT of the kinds of people that broke into your home voting too,,,and unlike a lot of home owners,,,they actually vote and vote FOR the morons that make their lives safer by grabbing guns…sad, huh,,oh and if you come to the US you will also have to deal with the overwhelming Voter Fraud going on here as well. Even Sadder.

    • GaryTheBrave

Now if that had been NY, the invaders would be limited to being a gang of seven. The other three would have to remain outside. That’s the law now, right? /sarc

  • Lawrence Adams

i agree with back ground checks ..but leave are right to bear arms alone…

    • http://extremesplash.wordpress.com/ Ben Bollman

How long before background checks would keep you from having a gun for anything like just seeing a therapist? It’s not so far-fetched considering they will be cracking down on mental health.

      • James Sivertsen

With a stroke of a pen, ‘mental health’ can come to mean anything. Soon it will be a mental disorder just to disagree with the government.
“I am altering the terms of the deal. Pray I do not alter it further,”
        Darth Vader.

        • http://extremesplash.wordpress.com/ Ben Bollman

Exactly, I just saw this morning that in New York because of the new laws a man had his guns confiscated because a therapist labeled him as mentally incompetent. Come to find out they confiscated the wrong man’s guns because of a mix up IN THE REGISTRY. Anyone who tells you background checks in not code for gun registration is a bold faced liar.

    • JustLurkin

WE ALREADY HAVE BACKGROUND CHECKS. DON’T FALL FOR THIS CRAP. UNIVERSAL background checks are what we have now WITH THE ADDITION OF NEVER DISCARDING THE GUN OWNER INFORMATION IN 24 HOURS AS IS CURRENTLY REQUIRED BY LAW. That would create a gun registry, which was the reason for discarding the info after 24 hours. The current law would not have passed without that requirement. So here we are now being defrauded into thinking WE DON’T DO BACKGROUND CHECKS?!?! We are currently doing 32 every minute this week. If you allow the thugs to keep the records, BOOM! GUN REGISTRY, leading to GUN CONFISCATION.

Wise up everyone. This is as far as we need to go. The only way we got instant checks was with the lawful requirement that the information IS DISCARDED.

  • http://www.davidsmusings.com/ David

“You cannot invade the mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass.” That was supposedly said by Isoroku Yamamoto, Commander-in-Chief of the Imperial Japanese Navy in WWII. That point is not lost on the federal government. The only way to control the people is to control the guns. What better way than to begin with subtle gun control laws (universal background checks that create a national registry) that ultimately lead to a gun ban as we see in Australia. It could happen here.

  • Hal Fast

Time to take the gov’s guns and ammo away from them internally. Disarem the DHS and anybody trying to infringe on American”s rights. We the people employ them not the other way around. Time to remind them.

  • David Johnson

Politicians want to make guns illegals & illegals legal citizens. Whats wrong with this picture!!!!

    • Jason Hunt

It’s kinda like what the Bible says: people will call good evil and evil good. Granted, this isn’t THAT extreme, but it is of the same vein.

  • Neil Leininger

Can I have “News reporting that will never be done in the US for 1,000” Alex.

    • Bristel

If you keep saying “it can’t happen”, suddenly you’ll find yourself shit out of luck when it happens.

  • Bruce Carter

Gun control is not about crime, it’s about controlling the Amwerican people. To do that you must disarm them. The founding fathers created the 2nd Amendment so the people COULD CONTROL GOVERNMENT. Our government has become the nation’s largest lobby. Seeking more from taxpayers to take for themselves.

    • $23988033

Safest country in the world is Switzerland where everyone is required to carry a gun …but Dems are taking the guns for another reason which is Cyprus.

US is 100 trillion in total debt (17 Trillion national debt) and Dems refuse to make necessary cuts to gov’t so …Americans have about 16 TRILLION in savings in banks, 401 etc. Trust me these Dems and Rhinos like McCain have their eye on our money and they know the riots they would create if they just took it while we are armed.

That is what is coming if we allow it.

NRA Stand and Fight: Universal Registration

Obama touts ‘progress’ on gun bill ahead of vote, as critics call compromise ‘unworkable’

But Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., echoed many Republicans in calling it “a good-faith but unworkable plan.”
“The proposal will impose new taxes and unreasonable burdens on law-abiding citizens. The agreement also prioritizes collecting records over protecting citizens,” Coburn said. “This is the wrong approach. Preventing sales to dangerous persons, not collecting receipts, will save lives.”

The National Rifle Association followed up with its own criticism of the proposal.

“Expanding background checks at gun shows will not prevent the next shooting, will not solve violent crime and will not keep our kids safe in schools,” the NRA said. “The sad truth is that no background check would have prevented the tragedies in Newtown, Aurora or Tucson.”

  • http://www.facebook.com/100000112736669 Herman Vogel

Let’s see if gun control works,,,Come with me to the Magical land of NYC, Chicago and Washington DC…oh wait,,the gun violence and murders are the highest in the nation,,well, There’s your answers.

  • http://www.facebook.com/babette.aben.cohen Elizabeth Cohen

Are all politicians this stupid? Gun Control laws and bans DO NOT WORK. Criminals will not give up their guns. Got it

  • http://aol.com/ Landshark

Only criminals, Communists, and terrorists want the American people disarmed. That is the kind of gun control being foisted upon us by the Democrat Party and the anti-gun crowd.

  • socalcon

Pointing out two items should end the debate:
1-Flotus emotes over the young Black lady killed in Chicago. Chicago has some of the most restrictive gun control laws around- didn’t spare that girl.
2- VP Joe is touting his role in getting the NRA (back in the 80’s) to accept the ‘background check’. Huh? Congress passed an ineffective law, and now wants more restrictions? See #1 above.

  • Laurel

If you watch the video and listen to the police officers it isn’t just gun control that has failed it is socialism that has failed.

  • $23988033

The lowest crime rates are in Switzerland where every person is expected to carry a gun as part of the country’s militia. It works. We should do that here.

After Australia enacted gun control their crime rate went up which is usually the case…criminals who have guns know that their victims are unarmed and police only arrive after the fact …it is as simple as that.

Also, most violent deaths in the US are from blows to the head from clubs/bats etc

  • $23988033

The Real reason Obama, Dems and some Repubs want gun control is to make it easier for them to confiscate your money!

Politicians know of the studies showing that gun control did not work in Chicago, Australia etc and that places like Switzerland where everyone carries guns are the safest.

We also know Obama has no qualms about supporting infanticide, using drones on Americans with no due process. Obama has no issues supplying guns to Mexican drug cartel, Libyans, Egypt, Syrians (who are all (minus Mexican Drug cartel) systematically killing Christians in the Middle east)

So that leaves the obvious…Obama is a Communist and the US is bankrupt.

US national debt went from 10 T (created from George Washington to Bush) to 16.8 T in just 4 plus years under Obama (almost 70% increase) & it is growing at record rates….that has to be paid off.

Even worse the national debt is 100 T or more and Obama and Dems know they can’t pay the entitlements like Soc Sec and Welfare etc. Dems are not willing to cut the gov’t or their boondoggles so it comes back to Cyprus.

Obama and the Dems are going to grab the 16 T saved by Americans to pay off National Debt and then they will cut all the entitlements.

    Thanks Obama voters!!

  • JustLurkin

Hey dum bass, he said it. This has been known for DECADES. Just because some ass wipe like yourself wants to claim it’s not true doesn’t work. IT’S TRUE. Dum bass.

  • ceemack

I’ve seen similar quotes from other Japanese officers, made long after the war was over.

IF Yamamoto didn’t say those exact words, there’s no doubt that the Japanese feared an armed American populace. “We were not so foolish,” one of them said, as to try to invade a country where so many people owned guns.

    Nice try.

  • http://www.davidsmusings.com/ David

What part of “supposedly said” do you not understand, Chris?

Please let me know. I think I can explain it to where even a caveman….eh, I mean “Progressive” can understand it.

  • http://www.davidsmusings.com/ David

Chris, I’m just going to have to agree with the others. You are a dumbass. You overlooked my disclaimer (since I saw that there are sites saying he said it and others he didn’t) and are trying to weasel out of looking like an idiot. Not working for you pal. Speaking of political agendas, aren’t you working toward the same goal with your progressiveness?

  • http://www.davidsmusings.com/ David

Seriously, are you on drugs? Either that or talking in circles is the norm for you. I have as much evidence “he” said it as you do. It was you who categorically stated “he didn’t say it” based on Snopes. If we follow your logic to it’s ultimate conclusion, we can never say anything is true unless we were there. That seems to be your MO right now. You don’t know if Yamamoto said it or didn’t say it since (following your logic again) since you weren’t in his presence (just an assumption on my part since you are so good at that also).

You started this entire thing with your smartass remark insulting me. I expected that since that is in your DNA. Par for the course for a socialist/progressive/liberal such as you. You fit things to jive with what you say as well. Don’t be such a damn hypocrite and some whinny ass wimp.

  • http://www.davidsmusings.com/ David

It hurts to read BS from someone oblivious to the truth. It was you who first started making asinine comparisons of validity of what someone “could” have said. At least you admit you can’t prove he didn’t say it, after stating previous he did NOT say it based entirely on Snopes. That’s good enough for me. I’ll let you go back to your socialist/progressive/liberal utopian world.

Please tell me you are not in education. If you are, that explains a few things about the youth of this country.

  • http://www.theretiredbabyboomer.net/ Dave

To just follow up with JustLurkin, You’re a dumbass. Either that or a fool. I wager somewhere in between. Enjoy your Socialist president, comrade.
