Terry McMillan, others worry Supreme Court justices ‘too old’ for changing world

Imagine how excited author Terry McMillan will be to learn she and José Canseco share the same outlook on the Supreme Court. Canseco’s afraid SCOTUS will “act its age” rather than embrace change, and it seems McMillan, 61, also thinks that it takes younger minds to keep up with a changing America. Funny how few celebs complained that SCOTUS had too much power when it upheld Obamacare.

If the justices decide to strike down Proposition 8 and DOMA as unconstitutional, will they still be considered “too old” (and white, and male)? We’ll have to wait and see.

For what it’s worth, Justice Alito is 62.

After reading all the tweets for homo marriage, I clearly see the downside of free speech.

  • Tugger – not quite dead yet

So if “Supreme Court Justices have entirely too much power” then maybe we should let the people vote to make this important decision… Oh, wait, that won’t work either… Um… look a unicorn!!!

      WINNER!

  • Kevin Roe

And suddenly realizing that this woman likely flunked history, civics, etc. Sadly typical entitlement mentality: give me what I want.

  • FreedomFighter

Is Kagan gay. Inquiring minds want to know.

    • ceemack

Yes, amazingly enough, Kagan is gay.

Oh, and in case you missed it, Siegfried and Roy are also gay. Liberace was, too.

  • Jay Evans

Can you imagine the fallout if respondents to this article had written “stupid old black people”? Let’s see, racism, ageism must be ok to liberals and they fear they will not be able to marry who they want. They were happy the “stupid old white people” gave them Roe v. Wade. Can’t make an argument,? Attack the deciders and the system.

    • Kimihiro Watanuki

They were also happy when the same court upheld Obamacare, too. So I don’t see why they’re griping; they get their way more than not. They’ve failed at the ballot box on this issue so much, so they’ve pinned their hopes on liberal judges.

    • http://www.facebook.com/brett.mcmicken Brett McMicken

come 2016, they won’t have any qualms about voting for that young black female named Hillary Clinton for president.

I guess these libs don’t fear GOD, who is old and very powerful.

    • descolada9

Dude, you’re talking about libs. They don’t fear God, but they fear people who do.

  • TJ

Just wait until the American Caliphate gets going when they are ruled by old guys from Iran who would just kill the gays over giving them any “rights” They have not changed in a few hundred years.

  • Rafael Eduardo Peña-Rios Riber

bitch (yeah, im aware i called her that) you know NOTHING about an over-powered supreme court

  • J.N. Ashby

So let me get this right. The government doesn’t have the right to decide who you can marry. The government should endorse your marriage. No wait. The federal government, constitutionally speaking (which is the only way “SCOTUS” can speak), has no authority written to affirm or deny any kind of marriage. It ain’t mentioned, but then again, they let Obamacare pass, and they let the Patriot Act, NDAA, and income tax pass when the constitution expressly forbids the latter 3…

    • http://twitter.com/thetugboatphil TugboatPhil

Yes. Constitutionality has nothing to do with US law anymore.

      • J.N. Ashby

        Of course!
Bell end A: Hey guys, we don’t have the power to tax income of individual persons.
Bell end B: Hmm…how about if we give ourselves that power? I mean let’s ignore the fact that we don’t have the power to give ourselves powers for a second. You think that would work?
Bell end A: Why not? Our people are morons. They’ll grumble for a minute, but it’ll be fine as long as we tell them we’re only going after “some” people with it!
Bell end B: Twenty-three skadoo! Let’s do it!

  • descolada9

Sorry, I like to have some of my Supreme Court justices older so that I know that they have seen the world and have a more mature attitude towards a changing world. I really do not want to see a bunch of OWS punks on the court.

  • JesLHW

It’s okay to be racist against white people, of course.

  • waltermitty2012

Justices? We don’t need no stinking Justices.

  • u_scruffy_nerf_herder

And some libtards said that I must hate old people for supporting Romney. Oh, such shallow people with limitless vile and hypocrisy.

  • waltermitty2012

By her logic, that would eliminate Biden and Clinton to run in 2016. On Inauguration Day, Biden would be 73 and Clinton 69. If you can’t have old people as judges, you can’t have old people running the country.

    • http://twitter.com/thetugboatphil TugboatPhil

Walter, please round off your numbers in the future. Reading “Clinton 69” make me throw up.

So, the old conservative Justices are too old, but the liberal Justices are just right. And whose business is it who one marries? Dog, cat, daughter, son, sister, brother…”What difference does it make? #ByeByeSocietyByeBye

  • TocksNedlog

    And John Roberts is 58.
How old is Ms. McMillan again?

  • TocksNedlog

Of course, when it comes to marrying a gay guy, Ms. McMillan’s experience and expertise cannot be denied.

    • http://twitter.com/thetugboatphil TugboatPhil

      Touche’!

  • el_polacko

i have to admit that i felt a little sorry for ginsburg today.
there were times that she seemed barely able to speak and didn’t have a clear idea of exactly what case was before her.

  • TocksNedlog

“Supreme Court Justices have entirely too much power. And some of them are too old to make decisions about a changing world.”
    — Shall we check the ages of the justices that voted for the majority in Roe v. Wade?
    Burger 65, Blackmun 64, Douglas 74, Brennan 66,
Marshall 64, Powell 65; and the baby, Stewart, was one day shy of his 58th birthday.

Hmm, Ginsburg and Breyer are older than all of those guys; should they be allowed to decide this case? Alito and Roberts (and Thomas) are younger than most of those guys were; so there’s no problem with them hearing the case; right?

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100002109532283 Jillane Kent

Oddly, they cheered this youthful court when Obamacare was ruled a constitutional “tax”…

  • TocksNedlog

Terry’s respect for the wisdom gained from a lifetime of study, intellectual discourse and the acquiring of wisdom is stunning.

  • TocksNedlog

Not to worry — she’s gonna switch gears from attacking those that are deciding the case to putting forth a reasoned argument supporting the anti-Prop 8 anti-DOMA position … any minute now … wait for it! . . . *chirp* *chirp*

  • Love of Country

Take each person on Twitter and elsewhere who just trashed the SCOTUS and ask each of them ….. which one of you people get dumber with each passing day because the rest of us only get wiser (if only by a little bit) as the days go by …. can I get a witness?

Clearly they just want to pit old vs young to break up the family unit in order to turn once normal people into terminally needy and dysfunctional democrats. Never mind they really just like folks under 30 who went spent 12 to 18 years in the “new” schools …. you know …. the ones all across the nation that have been completely taken over in the last 30 years by fascist and communist idealists. But sadly, this is just one front in their war to radically transform the United States into Venezuela.

    Generational War – Check
    Race War – Check
    Class War – Check
    Gender War – Check
    Constitutional War – Check

According to this expert of jurisprudence, Scalia and Thomas are “old” because they might interpret the case before them differently than the young spring chicken Ginseburg?

  • John Smith

How soon people forget their own praises of how SCOTUS was great and did the right think when it upheld Obamacare. Now since they think it may not approve all they want, all this “old white, out of touch, stupid” screams are flooding social media. Just when you thought Liberals can’t get more stupid and irrational.

  • brewerandpatriot

They cry for term limits and getting rid of old people? Paging Ms. Pelosi, Ms. Feinstein and Mr. Reid…

  • Kevin

Yes, because age has anything to do at all with interpreting constitutional law. Morons don’t understand the purpose of the court at all.

  • sleazyrider

I’m trying to think of old black anything successful without old white handouts …er

  • sleazyrider

    Well…playing the race card…been a winner

  • rennyangel2

We could have a national vote, but the left won’t like that as almost every “gay” marriage election proposal has gone down in flames.
It would be nice and rational and constitutional but very unexpected: SCOTUS should uphold prop 8, as it is the will of CA people (the 2nd will, actually, since they voted the same before–but like recounts, the Dems. just push for another round until the numbers somehow support the left).

    • http://twitter.com/1RandiStarr Randi Starr

      They have forgotten that.

      • rennyangel2

They’re too young to make any decisions and prob. have had their short and long term memories turned into Swiss cheese by too much of (zero’s favorite word) “chom.”

  • TexSizzle

Perhaps Miss McMillan should look at what happened when the Regressives’ hero, Franklin Roosevelt, decided that the Supreme Court justices were too old on average, and tried to get the authority to appoint an additional justice for every one over the age of 70.5.

I find it rather humorous that 62 year old Ms. McMillan is worried about the age of the Supreme Court Justices.

    Just sayin’.

    • Christoph DeHaven

My 62 year old leftist department chair didn’t renew my contract because he said I was “too old” (at age 42) to relate to the students (really because I dared criticize Marx in my sociology class). Inconsistency (with lying, demonizing, name-caling, etc. etc.) is a defining characteristic of libs.

Low information liberal tweeters must not realize that their “girl” Justice Sotomayor has raised doubt about why the SCOTUS is handling this case. Is she an “old angry hispanic woman”?

What a bunch of moon bats. They’re already bitching and the SCOTUS has yet to hand down a decision. They’ll praise them endlessly when they rule FOR the abomination that is homosexual “marriage”.

Trying to understand liberal mind: (1) the president (1 guy) doesn’t have enough power concentrated in a single individual & (2) the supreme court (consensus of 9 people) has too much power concentrated in the small group; Corporations competing in the market wield too much power, are too cold and impersonal but unelected government monopolies need even more power, and are warm and fuzzy?

I guess they only want people to agree with them regardless of the reasons.

Those OLD and WHITE people made Civil Rights a reality. Our country isn’t perfect but it’s still here thanks to OLD people…

I sent her a tweet and asked her why she hates old people. I told her she is no spring chicken either. I probably got blocked. lmao!! Liberals can dish….but they can’t take the heat.

  • JCRocks

Intolerant and emotion-driven liberals have issue with older white males. Disturbing and disgusting. Suppose we made similar comments about the women on SCOTUS using their gender, age and ethnicity?
In the new liberals mind, and the MSM, only hip young people of color can make rational and meaningful decisions…but even then the decisions must toe the liberal line or they are ‘tokens’ for the older white males.
The lack of understanding of our constitution, of checks & balances on power, and lack of civility by this younger generation of progressives should give us all reason to pause and shudder.
