Sign of intelligent life: William Shatner appalled by IRS’s pricey ‘Star Trek’ parody

Only William Shatner’s agent knows for sure if the IRS could have saved money by simply hiring Shatner himself to star in the agency’s ill-received “Star Trek” training video, which CBS News posted Friday night. Even the IRS has since disowned the video, which features acting and production values nearly as poor as those of the original series. If the IRS agents who “starred” in the video took comfort thinking that Shatner would never see it, we’re sorry.

Canadian Shatner isn’t the only one wondering how the clip (and an as-yet-unseen “Gilligan’s Island” parody) cost $60,000. At least two Congressmen are appalled as well.

These arrogant thieves should be fired. The lack of accountability, ethics and integrity at ALL levels is disgusting. Obama vacations, Biden in Paris. And these are just the ones we know. #SpendingIsTheProblem

But if we get rid of them the world will descend into anarchy. Didn’t you see the video? They’re the good guys! They said so!

“They could’ve gotten me for half that!”…said Bill.

A taxpayer dollar waste it may be, but at least I got something out of it, unlike Joe Biden’s $500,000 hotel bill or Sasha and Milia’s trip to the Bahamas.

“which features acting and production values nearly as poor as those of the original series”

Kind of a cheap shot there, considering all the millions of fans over a span of generations who still love the original series. I’m still amazed at what they did on a budget for the whole series that wouldn’t cover one episode of the later spin-offs.

    • StaurosAgape

Thanks Catherder! I agree that was a cheap shot and it kind of killed the whole thing for me.

Thank you I love the original series, more for the story-telling.

  • SpinMeNot

Q: If Captain Kirk had Mr. Spock scan the IRS building in DC, what would Mr. Spock tell the good Captian?
A: “Captain, there is no sign of intelligent life.”

    • arttie

And a Vulcan mind meld with the IRS would leave Mr. Spock a babbling idiot.

      • o0Nighthawk0o

No, no, no. Didn’t you get the memo. That’s JEDI mind meld now. It must be because Obama said so.
