Rand Paul: When I advocate a ‘path to citizenship,’ people ‘close their ears’

Poor Rand Paul. He is trying to talk up his “path to citizenship” plan for illegal aliens, but people who support enforcement of our nation’s immigration laws just don’t want to listen.

Its not his fault, mind you. It’s the “polarizing nature of the conversation.”

According to Paul and his allies, the plan Paul supports certainly isn’t amnesty:

Not everyone sees it that way, however.

This much is not in dispute: Paul is proposing mass legalization of people who reside in the United States illegally. In that key respect, his proposal is similar to legislation that was enacted in 1986. For some odd reason almost everyone refers to the 1986 legislation as an “amnesty.” Go figure!

In throwing his support behind amnesty (or “path to citizenship” or whatever you want to call it), Sen. Paul joins many other prominent Republicans, including Sen. Marco Rubio, Sen. John McCain, GOP strategist Karl Rove, former president George Bush, and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush.

If conservatives are tired of hearing the word games and double talk, we can’t say we blame them.

  • annoyinglittletwerp

If you support allowing those who came here ILLEGALLY to gain citizenship…ever…you do indeed support amnesty!

  • http://apostrophejones.com/ Gloves Donahue, Jr.

Pointless to discuss if the borders are not sealed, and Obama will never do that.

And it’s just a big “Screw you!” by Obama, Prince of Darkness, to legal immigrants.

  • http://www.facebook.com/linda.dommel Linda Dommel

BLACKS R being SOLD OUT & they R listen 2 this Hatred 2 make them BLIND! Amnesty, Open Borders & releasing Illegal criminal from prison DIRECTLY effect their communities negatively! If U voted speak up to your legislators – don’t let them pull the wool over your eyes.

    • Larry G.

well if the “blacks are being sold out” where would you suggest they go? many liberals and the DNC and the president support amnesty and many conservatives and the RNC and a former president support amnesty.

  • https://twitter.com/tweetyuo Tangchung

Paul says more working visa after “Congress” agree border secure.
“Congress” hands out bing bag guns and considers the border ALREADY secure.
    That’s the problem.

    • https://twitter.com/davidjkramer DavidKramer

erm, you must not quite understand how things work. The executive branch enforces the law, congress passes it. Whomever up voted your comment should take a course about the US government.

      • https://twitter.com/tweetyuo Tangchung

I just recapped Pauls proposal you might want to read the topic and his statement at Rand Paul’s web site.

        • https://twitter.com/davidjkramer DavidKramer

Let me see, you said this, “”Congress” hands out bing bag guns and considers the border ALREADY secure.” Hmmmmm, like I said, you do not seem to understand, the executive branch enforces the law, not Congress. Don’t admit your mistake, just obfuscate. By the way, if you look around, I am the one that ACTUALLY posted a link to Paul’s website stance on immigration. You know, where he states some MILITARY bases could be built on the border. Soooooooo, care to rethink your comments?

          • https://twitter.com/tweetyuo Tangchung

Oh I see….My point is congress thinks the border is secure. “Paul” says Congress will vote if they think border is secure and allow more visas, Department of homeland is in charge of border security along with USA coast guard a arm of the military.

          • https://twitter.com/davidjkramer DavidKramer

Can you link me to a report from Congress that states our border is secure? You still have not admitted your mistake on who arms our border patrol. The DHS is not an arm of the military. If it is, could you give me the branch it is under. It is an arm of the executive branch, the White House. It never existed before 10 years ago. You are just throwing misinformation and ignorance around. Please inform yourself.

          • https://twitter.com/tweetyuo Tangchung

I did not state the DHS was part of the the us military. I said us coast guard is arm of us military. Ok DHS arms the border is that what you are getting at?

          • https://twitter.com/davidjkramer DavidKramer

Exactly, the executive branch……White House, makes the decisions on how our borders are secured. The Congress can only make the laws, they CANNOT enforce them. If the White House wants to put up water stations and buses for the illegals, they can. By the way, the 1986 amnesty included in the law that our border had to be secured, period, it is not. Warning signs for Americans is not secured.

Yes, the Coast Guard is under the Navy or is an equal arm of the military, I would have to look to see how that is being ran now, not familiar. But the border patrol is now under the DHS. Pretty much every police enforcement is under the DHS now.

          • OneThinDime

Obama had DHS send 60,000 furlough notices to the border patrol and customs agents. We have ZERO security during sequester.

          • https://twitter.com/davidjkramer DavidKramer

Any link to that or are we supposed to believe you on that as well. Geez, you keep spewing these “facts” with nothing to back them up. Please, do not comment to me again unless you have some proof to your ramblings.

  • ZoriahShepard

How many of these illegal immigrants are going to rush to get citizenship anyways? Why would they? So they can pay taxes? Right now they have all the perks with no cons. Why would they bother?

    • http://extremesplash.wordpress.com/ Ben Bollman

exactly, they’ve been living out in the open for years sponging off of the system. What incentive do they have to become citizens? Who is going to enforce these laws when they won’t even enforce the ones we already have?

    • OneThinDime

They are also voting en masse.

  • moonsbreath

    Dear Paul,
My ears can be closed because my eyes are open. That’s what happens when your community is overflowing with illegals and all the crime they bring. I invite you and all the others to come where I live, they’ll see the illegals don’t live or work in the shadows. Let them get accosted while walking into a store or pumping gas. These elites would run away screaming.
    Sign me FED-UP.

  • FFlintstone

You can’t do immigration reform with Obama as president. He’s just going to ignore the terms of any agreement that’s reached and do what he wants. He’ll declare the border secure when it’s not. He’ll refuse to deport future illegal immigrants saying he’s “prioritizing resources”.

If Obama doesn’t enforce the current immigration laws, how can anyone in their right mind believe he will enforce any future laws that are put in place?

    • https://twitter.com/davidjkramer DavidKramer

This^, why pass any legislation, the fascist in the executive branch does not enforce current law…………..so exactly what is the point?

    • http://www.vatican.va/ Rulz

Not getting immigration done will really help Rubio and probably Rand in 2016.

I guess that is the bright side.

Otherwise, it’s more than just honest, hardworking Mexican families coming to the this country.

    • OneThinDime

Obama has already ordered the release of 2,228 imprisoned illegal aliens and has ordered over 3,000 more be released in March. He doesn’t give a rip if they kidnap, molest, rape and murder because he and his family have lifetime SS.

      • https://twitter.com/davidjkramer DavidKramer

Every MONTH they release 1,000 or more illegals. If you would have watched the Congressional testimony, you would know all this hysteria, like you are spewing is what Obama is doing on purpose. To make people like you all hysterical. Yes, they should not be released, they should be driven to the border or dropped off in Washington, DC. Make sure you suggest next that we need to stop this sequestration.

    • KayGee

A well known Tea Party politician is not far-right conservative enough for you anymore? THANKS OBAMA!

  • Guest

Sen. Paul is on the wrong side of this issue. American people want the borders closed. Fenced up. Strong border patrol. And find and capture illegal aliens by bounty and then return them to their homeland. Children of illegals are to return with them. They are not natural born citizen (No anchor babies). No free handouts. No welfare to illegals.
Why? They take American poor their jobs. Americans want higher minimum wage jobs. American employers hire illegals to keep wages down. We the people know this but the main steam media is corrupt by pulling the Democrat Party agenda and lines. Might as well invite the entire world (7 billion+) into the USA. Answer is REVOLUTION.

    • OneThinDime

      You are exactly correct!

  • moonsbreath

Why should any of these illegals be allowed to get in a line at all? They’ve been bilking the system for years. There is no good illegal.

  • http://profiles.yahoo.com/u/YJ5G3N25JBSWDNFKBTXEVLR4NU Walt

The problem, in my opinion, is that we keep trying to put together a one all plan (comprehensive reform if you will). But we did that in 1986, and although we did the amnesty part ok, we failed on the border security and the enforcement provisions. Every employer keeps bundles of the I-9 form on file for it’s employees (legal or not) but no one from the government audits for them and when they do and find a failure to follow the rules, they fail to impose the $10k per day per employee that the law allows for.

So might I make a suggestion, seal the border as a separate action. Then when we get the border secured we can talk about what to do with the people here.

  • Barbaric Yawwp

This country is in need desperate need of a third party. The Republicans have decided to become Dem Lite. Who will represent real conservatives?

  • http://www.facebook.com/richard.jefferies.96 Richard Jefferies

We don’t need to deport anyone. We just need to penalize employers caught hiring them, and turn of the spicket for services. They will go back on their own, but nobody has the guts to do that. Name any socio-euro country you want, most of them will leave you starving at the border because they know that they can only handle so much “free” health care.

    • OneThinDime

Enough with the punish employers. Have you used e-Verify? Are you aware that Mexicans are mailing their passports back to Mexico so friends and relatives and use their identity to enter the country? Are you aware that Mexicans are sharing work documents with friends and family members illegally? None of this is the employer’s fault. There is only a confirmation that the SSN and a few characters of 1st and last name match it. e-Verify is a failure and employers need a better tool.

  • https://twitter.com/davidjkramer DavidKramer

Here is Rand’s stance on immigration. I would like EVERYONE, especially Twitchy to notice the first sentence. I mean you like to spread the DNC talking points, maybe you could have AT LEAST included a link to this. But hey, I know you are overworked, typing the exact same thing from some DNC outlets is tough work.

I do not support amnesty, I support legal immigration and recognize that
the country has been enriched by those who seek the freedom to make a
life for themselves. However, millions of illegal immigrants are
crossing our border without our knowledge and causing a clear threat to
our national security. I want to work in the Senate to secure our
border immediately. In addition, I support the creation of a border
fence and increased border patrol capabilities.”

    Bold added by me.

The rest can be found here- http://www.paul.senate.gov/?p=issue&id=12

    • AtlantaFanGOP

Doesn’t matter, we should jump on Rand Paul because the AP told us too.

      • https://twitter.com/davidjkramer DavidKramer

There you go! Twitchy should not be asked to actually attempt to get the bottom of it, they can just post DNC talking points. Heck, maybe they can get on the Media Matters email list and join the journolistoes.

    • http://www.facebook.com/richard.jefferies.96 Richard Jefferies

The problem is, and maybe he wholeheartedly believes it, is that this is the common refrain going back nearly 30 years. It’s a kick the can mentality of getting the people to go along with recognizing another batch of illegals and then promising to secure the borders, which hasn’t been done yet, at all. Not even a little bit. State are now going bankrupt providing services to illegals who pay very little into the system. This CANNOT continue.

      • https://twitter.com/davidjkramer DavidKramer

Read the link, he states that the states and localities that want to enforce illegal immigration should be able to. If I was a governor of a state I would have already created a contract with outside private contractors, to just ship the illegals to Mexico immediately upon arrest. It would be cheaper than imprisoning them. Then if they are not from Mexico, drop them off outside the White House. Let California and the other states continue to let the influx of illegals, they will become the failed states they deserve to be. That is why they developed the federalism layout for the country.

        • OneThinDime

Arbitrary and capricious. Those sound familiar to you? if not, look at the court decision in nanny Bloomers soda pop ban. You cannot enforce federal laws in an arbitrary and capricious manner.

          • https://twitter.com/davidjkramer DavidKramer

Fallacy, does not apply. Because the law was not even across the board, it was therefore arbitrary and capricious. The US immigration laws are clear, you can deport illegals, they are here illegally. Now, if you said that you could sue those states that would not enforce the law, then it would kind of apply. But it still is not arbitrary and capricious. It is just like what Obama is doing, just not enforcing the law.

By the way, I read the entire decision, even the middle boring part where he came up with his legal precedents. Quit trying to be an online lawyer. Read some more at Legal Insurrection, Ann Althouse, Heritage Foundation, Volokh Conspiracy, and maybe the Scotus Blog. I am a vociferous reader of legal theory. Try to keep up.

      • OneThinDime

The taxpayers are going bankrupt because the states and feds steal from us to pay for the illegal aliens.

    • John_Frank

He can say what he wants on his website, but what did he say to the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce?

Sorry, he is saying one thing to one group, no amnesty; and another thing to another group, I support a pathway to citizenship.

      No sale.

      • https://twitter.com/davidjkramer DavidKramer

Really, I am supposed to trust you…….Eric Erickson was there and he stated Paul said no such thing. No proof, I am supposed to believe the DNC media and you. Yeah, right.

        • OneThinDime

The speech has been published and yes he did say that. He also told the Washington Times that the illegal aliens are “undocumented citizens”. Paul is one nut shy of his nutjob father.

          • Guest

Still no link from a nutbag anonymous pissant. Ohhhhh, am I making you mad because I won’t believe you?

    • Stone Bryson

I tell ya, David – despite the recent bandwagon-jumping on the part of Twitchy regarding Paul’s epic filibuster, Twitchy is a bunch of Michelle Malkin clones… and she HATES Rand Paul. Even the first post they made about the filibuster had a question mark beside it – only when MANY ‘conservatives’ were in support of him did they finally get on-board.

I predicted this morning on my Twitter feed this was going to happen on Twitchy… and it has. Note to libertarians: you are not welcome by the Malkin wing of the Republican party. Not now… not ever. Keep that in mind when reading here…

      • https://twitter.com/davidjkramer DavidKramer

Yep, I am a Constitutional Libertarian and have never been a Republican. I have moved on voting for the party anymore. I think if they put up another RINO I may start voting for the Democrats. That way the collapse will happen quicker at least, that way we might have a chance against them. Peaceful non compliance to the federal behemoth is my path now. Keep your powder dry. They are poking the nest around the world, testing everyone. Cyprus was just a planned test to see the reactions.

        • Stone Bryson

“Keep your powder dry.” In this world, always. :-)

Excellent post BTW, though it will undoubtedly be voted down here in Twitchyland…

      • OneThinDime

Thanks Liberal-Lite for 4 more years of Obama. Hillary will be elected in 2016 because of Liberal-Lites like you.

LOL typical. A person has to be either lib or con in your world – no third option, eh? It’s called being a libertarian, OTD, and I’d wager some of my views are FAR to the right of you on certain issues. Don’t strain yourself thinking outside the box, however – you might sprain something in your brainpan.

    • OneThinDime

He can use whatever words he wants. If you do not punish lawbreakers (illegal aliens break the laws every single day) that is amnesty.

    • Pam
    • Pam

      Rand’s new stance on immigration:

“Conservatives, myself included, are wary of amnesty. My plan will not grant amnesty or move anyone to the front of the line. But what we have now is de facto amnesty.

The solution doesn’t have to be amnesty or deportation-a middle ground might be called probation where those who came illegally become legal through a probationary period”

  • SalMoanella

Like Rubio, Rand Paul is now dead to me.

    • AtlantaFanGOP

Good, we can nominate another RINO like Jeb Bush or Chris Christie. This stupid infighting is how were stuck with McCain and Romney. There is not one man or woman in this country that will be excepted by every conservative. Paul and Rubio are the best possible candidates we’ve had since Reagan yet people still are bent on tearing them down.

      • Maxx

The party is going to become relegated to the dust bin of history if conservatives continue this stubborn and nonsensical pursuit of the “perfect conservative.” I’ve got news for those kinds of hard liners…the candidate without at least one or two “deal breakers” doesn’t exist. You’re always going to find something you’ll disagree with a candidate on…even the uber-righties.

Better Rand Paul or Marco, Jeb or Christie than Hillary Clinton. That’s for damn sure.

        • OneThinDime

The party is finished with another illegal alien amnesty. Check the statistics, less than 20% of Hispanics vote GOP, 80% vote DEM

      • SalMoanella

Good you vote for them. I and many, many others like me will not be voting for them. We’ve seen the success that “the lesser of two evils” candidates have had in 2008 and 2012. If the GOP wants conservative votes then they should earn them by running candidates that adhere to conservative principles.

If I lose, I’ll still have my principles. What will you have when you lose?

      • OneThinDime

It is 2013 for goodness sake. Better to know the traitors now than to have another one in the run for the WH. There are a lot of faults conservatives will accept but noncompliance with the Constitution and ignoring our federal laws are not two of them.

  • http://twitter.com/USAHuckleberry sharon

We have existing immigration laws. Can’t Paul, Rubio, et al read or comprehend them? Opening the borders wide and letting them all in and out whenever they feel like is degrading to the US. Anytime you travel to a foreign country, there is verbiage from that country telling you that you cannot stay there (or will be subject to prosecution). What in the hell are American politicians trying to do to America and Americans?

    • http://www.facebook.com/138900508 Patrick Dennehy

He is not saying leave the borders open. There will be a system that insures the borders stay secure first and foremost…

  • connbaby

Step one: Deny 14th amendment birthright citizenship to children of non-citizens.
    Step two: Strengthen borders.
Step three: Then consider Rand Paul’s plan.

    • http://extremesplash.wordpress.com/ Ben Bollman

^this I agree with, especially no more anchor babies

    • nc

Before Step Three: Test and verify Steps One and Two for a period of time to ensure they are valid and working.

AFTER, and only after verification and evaluation, consider Step Three.

      • connbaby

Step one can be done with the stroke of a pen. So what’s stopping us? There is no rational argument to continue allowing it.

    • OneThinDime

Step three: Change the penalty for entering and remaining in the country to the death penalty. Give them 30 days to get out.

  • Steve_J

It’s rewarding illegal behavior and mocking those who follow the U S immigration laws.

    Mr. Paul

call it what ever you want.. we are SICK of the WORD GAMES..Why in the world would a CITIZEN go for this BULL?? Illegals have come into this coutry and we have PAID for their kids to be born in our HOSPITALS, gave them FOOD STAMPS helped them with HOUSING..gave them TAX REFUNDS that INCLUDED ..EARNED INCOME CREDIT.. yes ask the IRS how many ILLEGALS use the #000-00-0000 when filing income taxes YET the IRS grants them monies from HARD WORKING AMERICAN CITIZENS .. SO you think a FINE is appropriate?? How about they pay BACK all the money they STOLE? Each kid they have they should have to PAY the hospital bill for, all the FOOD STAMPS/WIC/ MEDICAID they got for themselves and those kids they should have to pay back, any dollars they collected from committing FRAUD by using a phony SS number they should have to pay back.. listen the LATINO’S in my family are plenty PISSED.. and YOU sir have LOST their vote.. Do you REALLY think you will come out ahead on this? There are FAR to many LEGAL Latino’s who can’t STAND THE FACT that this government is ignoring those that came into this country the right way and WILL NOT vote for ANYONE who has the plan you have.. REMEMBER McCain LOST.. I am a white American who’s family is VERY LATINO.. they came into this country the RIGHT WAY and WORKED HARD they didn’t get HANDOUTS they supported themselves and their family and have NO tolerance for ILLEGALS who play the system .. LATINO or OTHERWISE..BEFORE you open your mouth any further better check to see just what kind of FREE RIDE the ILLEGALS have being given,,

  • Maxx

Something to bear in mind folks. What we have in common with Rand, immigration-wise, is much stronger than what separates us. Clearly he does not believe in amnesty so let’s take that off the annoyance table. He does believe securing our borders IMMEDIATELY and enforcing the laws already on the books. OK, I’m down with that as well. Looking good so far…

Looks like he realizes deporting 16M illegals is a thing of fantasy. I agree. I wish we could but fixing a 30-year mistake by sending hound dogs to sniff out 16M people is a ludicrous notion. I prefer to deal with a situation with answers that can actually see themselves to fruition.

OK, so then what? Well…establish conditions which would allow them to remain here in a legal status as non-citizens yet permanent residents in an alien status, allowing them to work, pay taxes, etc. Anyone committed of a felony, immediate deportation. NO such program for those already jailed or in jail. Bye bye. We don’t need your kind here.

MAJOR border patrol infrastructure with more walls, more guards, more officers, etc. To ensure this crap doesn’t repeat itself a decade from now.

Let’s get on this and do what is necessary to address this problem but we can’t blame Rand for trying to clean up a mess his predecessors are responsible for. The guy is trying. I believe him when he says NO AMNESTY.

    • John_Frank

Sorry, he supports a pathway to citizenship. That is amnesty.

People need to be honest and say, we have a mess.

We have millions of people in the country illegally.

      What do we do?

The southern border is not secure. This is a national security risk.

How do we solve this problem?

Also, people need to remember that any legislation which involves a “pathway” that goes beyond the present Congress can be amended by a future Congress.

Finally, how can people trust anything that is said by the executive branch, when we know the President lies?

Yes, we need to have a discussion about immigration, but what is the rush?.

The majority of Americans are not demanding, we must have immigration reform now.

In fact the majority of Americans have no interest in addressing immigration reform, believing that the economy, debt, deficits, national security and the health of the social network are the issues that Congress needs to be talking about and dealing with.

The only people who seem to be in a rush to deal with this now on the Republican side are a number of elected officials and the RNC, being all upset about the 2012 defeat.

What all this looks like is a very ambitious Senator, who wants to run for President, and is saying what he needs to say to a particular interest group to curry their vote, so that he can get elected, while endeavoring to placate others by saying no, that is not what I mean, so that he can get their votes as well.

We call that identity politics, which is poisonous, because it ends up pitting one group against another.

      No sale.

      • Maxx

Amnesty would be akin to saying “ok, everyone here is now a US citizen with no preconditions, no qualifiers, no caveats. We forgive you for breaking the law, you can now go about your peace.”

I see nothing from Rand that even approaches that.

        • OneThinDime

Amnesty = those that are working for cash will not be prosecuted for tax evasion and sent to Federal prison like we do to natural born American citizens and legal immigrants.

          • Maxx

You need to do some research my friend.

” In 2006 an estimated 8 million illegal immigrants—up to two thirds of the total—paid taxes, including both income taxes and Medicare and Social Security taxes. Indeed, revenue from illegal immigrants is estimated at $11 billion a year to Social Security alone.”

In addition, the Social Security Administration estimates that 75% of undocumented immigrants are actually on formal payrolls and are paid by check just like anyone else.

They also pay sales tax on everything they purchase.

My point isn’t to sit here and defend their illegal status, rather to point out amnesty as you define it is incorrect. Most already pay taxes.

          • OneThinDime

If they are paying taxes, which I greatly doubt, then we know who they are and where they are and can easily round them up for deportation. Entering and remaining in our country are also crimes, daily in fact, and failing to prosecute for those crimes is also amnesty. Give it up, people are moving away from Rand Paul faster than the plague.

          • Maxx

Rand isn’t a serious candidate for President. Still a lot of seasoning to do there. As for “people are moving away….” uber-righties are moving away. The majority of the people realize rounding up 16M isn’t going to happen. You can wish in one hand and crap in the other but it ain’t going to occur. NO party has the guts to see it through, including the right…which is why we’re in this mess in the first place. When the left sat idly by (as expected), did either Bush round ’em up? Hell no.

      • OneThinDime

Obama will EO the citizenship immediately so they vote DEM in 2014. He needs the House and will do anything to get it.

    • Stone Bryson

Excellent effort, Maxx, but I fear it is for naught here…

    • http://www.youtube.com/user/ConcernedONETOO/featured ConcernedOne

It’s still a way for illegals to be rewarded. They broke the law, yet don’t reap the consequences of breaking that law.

For starters, pass The Birthright Citizenship Act of 2013 H.R. 140 (NO ANCHOR BABIES), then, immediately punish ANY employer that hires illegals, including day laborers (real easy to spot them in Anytown, USA – yet law enforcement turns a blind eye)

  • Netmilsmom

I’m in a Slovak parish. Every year fellow parishioners pay money to try to get green cards for their relatives. Most years, they are denied. They pay year after year.
This is just another punishment of those who did things right and rewarding those who popped a bird at the law.

    • $6333266

We all know tha dengers of large numbers of Slovakian immigrants. Polka and waltzes might proliferate. people might be tempted to eat pirohy, or even kapustnica. And then there is the reputation of Slovaks for forming roving gangs of fujara players. What a horrible country it would be! But seriously, why is it so hard for Europeans to come here?

      • http://twitter.com/DeusInscrutable Deus Ex Inscrutable

Maybe it is because Europe is where people have experienced Socialism and are coming to the US to escape it. These people thus are less likely to fall for the “lies of the left”.

  • http://twitter.com/starwarsfan107 Hayekguy

I’m totally on @SenRandPaul’s side on this issue. We as a nation are already allowing de facto amnesty with 11 million illegals living with nobody trying to deport (most people at least). So what the hell’s the complaint that he supports “amnesty” if we already are granting that right now? I’m also @marcorubio’s side. I don’t support immigration reform as a way to attract Latinos to the Republican Party cause that’s been attempted and failed. I do however support on the grounds of a simple economic and national security issue. We NEED to reform our immigration laws. But as condition to immigration reform, something HAS to come FIRST: SECURING THE BORDER and there has to be genuine proof that that’s being done. After that’s happened then we implement immigration reform. But until then, border has to be genuinely secured and any illegal immigration halted.

Though I’m very skeptical that securing the border will happen under the watch of this current administration.

But please people stop chastising Marco Rubio and Rand Paul for supporting “amnesty”. We already like I said are practically granting it. I do think path to citizenship has to have teeth to it. That means it takes a LONG time before the illegals currently here have the rights of let’s say voting. As a matter of fact, why not propose a system where it’d be simply faster to go back to whatever country an illegal came from to become a US citizen? Here’s what I say: They go back to their country they achieve US citizenship in 5-10 years. They stay in the US: 15-20 (maybe 25) to do so. Just throwing it out there.

Also when talking immigration reform, reform the current legal system in a way that encourages legal immigration and discourages illegal immigration.

So, the same people who applauded Rand Paul’s filibuster are now jumping off his bandwagon?

  • TonyMitch

Gutless cowards all of them. They are all prostitutes and whores selling themselves for votes. The sad part is they are not going to get the Mexican vote anyway. Olympus is falling

  • KansasGirl

    Protect our borders!

We need more jobs not more workers. Stick to the important issues.

    • OneThinDime

Every illegal working here for cash has stolen a job for an American. We pay unemployment (which is funded by employers that then don’t have those funds to hire more employees or expand), foodstamps, welfare, Medicaid to Americans because of the theft by illegals. If Rand Paul is supposed to be so smart economically, he could figure this out, a 6th grader could.

  • OneThinDime

We American citizens would be in federal PRISON if we worked for cash, didn’t file tax returns and pay our “fair share” to the federal gov’t and then spend time in state PRISON for not paying our state of residence their fair share of our earnings. No such pathway to prison for the illegals, not a bit, just you and me, the hard working, honesty taxpayers.

It’s very simple, Randy. You can have amnesty or votes. You can’t have both.

  • Bill Board

The “path to citizenship” for illegal aliens should be: #1. Deportation to country of origin #2. File proper application with the U.S. and #3. Wait your turn like everyone else, period.

    Open immigration up to Europeans!

  • Matthew Hampton

I support a ‘path to citizenship’ … it forms at the end of the line. (Oh, and if you are caught here as an illegal alien, a DNA sample is taken and you will be denied citizenship permanently.)

  • Christian Heiens

Why does this place praise Paul one day and then bash him the next? Pick a side and stick to it. I stand with him and yes, I also think a “path to citizenship” or whatever you want to call it IS a good idea ONLY if you first enforce existing laws on the books and above all, seal off the border. We cannot discuss any sort of “amnesty” for anyone until we accomplish that task. Once the flow of illegal immigrants into the United States comes to a trickle, then we can discuss how to effectively deal with the illegals who are currently residing in the United States.

  • dan

in 13 yrs we could have all of these criminals kicked out of our country.

  • arrow2010

    Shamnesty is shamnesty.

  • 1972patriot

Rand Paul’s staff confirmed that he favors a path to citizenship without deportation. I’m all for bringing these criminals out of the shadows by offering them an opportunity to right their wrongs through legal residency… this should be determined at the state level and on a case by case basis. BUT, they began their parasitic crusade into America as criminals and should never, ever, ever be rewarded with citizenship status unless they go back to where they came from and begin the naturalization process LEGALLY.

  • Randy

Paul wants to provide work visas to illegals. He wants them to then get in line for citizenship. The alternative would be to round them up, charge them, convict them and send them home. I think it is foolish to think that we can accomplish this. Paul’s stand on immigration sounds fair to me, and it prevents giving all illegals citizenship and voting rights immediately. Illegal actions only warrant voting rights if you are a Democrat!!!

He further seems to want to secure the border. That is a big difference.

Path to citizenship is ‘amnesty’ under GOP code jargon
