Civility: Screaming union protesters drown out Philly mayor’s budget speech

Even before Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter delivered his budget speech this today, union protesters were already gearing up for a circus:

When Mayor Nutter walked into the city council chambers to deliver his speech, he was greeted by loud whistles and chanting. Hey — thugs gotta thug!

He did eventually finish his speech — in the mayor’s reception room:

He’s right. What a disgraceful display. But then, what else can you expect from union thugs?

Update:

Twitchy CEO Michelle Malkin asks a great question:

But of course.

  • ceemack

This must be that “new tone” of political debate that I keep hearing about.

To tell the truth, I thought it would something a little different.

    • R0nin

Didn’t you hear about the Leftists’ disclaimer? “New Tone for thee, not for we.”

    • JoeMyGodNYC

All that “new tone” crap is an invention of the teabaggers so they can scream with the butthurt when others are being meanies. I’m a hardcore lefty socialist and I’ve NEVER heard anybody on our side promise a “new tone.”

      • http://twitter.com/thetugboatphil TugboatPhil

You might not have heard them if you were behaving like these worthless dregs of human debris. Your President said we needed a new tone in political discourse after the Gifford’s shooting in Arizona.

        • JoeMyGodNYC

“worthless dregs of human debris” says the man complaining about lack of civility…..

          • https://twitter.com/davidjkramer DavidKramer

So how would you describe their “stomping their feet and screaming like children” actions?

          • JoeMyGodNYC

Misguided. Annoying. Pointless. I met Mayor Nutter two weeks ago when he told our group that he intends to make Philadelphia “this nation’s most progressive city.”

          • https://twitter.com/davidjkramer DavidKramer

Excellent! I am sure Chicago will be grateful they can hand off the title for murder capital of the world. Philli, DC and Chicago can argue over who is the most “progressive”. Make sure you figure out how to print up some currency.

          • JoeMyGodNYC

Another false Tea Party talking point. While Chicago’s murder rate is indeed terrible, last year they ranked 16th per capita among major US cities. Ranking higher than Chicago were major cities in the very red states of Georgia, Missouri, Tennessee, Louisiana,

          • https://twitter.com/davidjkramer DavidKramer

Cities in the Red states…………controlled by Democrats………..I notice you did not bother to give me a link to your so called facts by the way. Here is a fact for you, being in the US military, in Afghanistan is safer than living in Chicago. No wonder Obama wants to make the US like Shitcago, he want the US worse than a war zone.

          • JoeMyGodNYC

If only there were some magical device to look up such facts!

        • JoeMyGodNYC

The president DOES NOT speak for the Left. No president ever has.

            The “No True Scotsman” defense.

          • JoeMyGodNYC

I see your point as I often cite NTS to Christians. But if you think Barack Obama is a leftist, you don’t know what one is. Drone strikes, anyone?

          • http://twitter.com/Gator_Country Stephen K

Hey, but as long as those drones are only targeting “teabaggers,” it’s all good, right?

          • JoeMyGodNYC

No, it’s not all good. All Americans deserve their day in court.

          • JoeMyGodNYC

No, it’s not all good. All Americans deserve their day in court.

          • Adela Wagner

            He speaks for MUCH WORSE.

          • grais

So, who does speak for the left?

          • JoeMyGodNYC

Exactly like the right/Tea Party/conservative world, the leftist/progressive movement is a hodgepodge of internally warring factions who routinely accuse each other being untrue to the cause. There is no anointed spokesperson, that’s as impossible in our world as it is in yours.

          • grais

So, who does speak for the left?

      • journogal

What do you have against homosexuals? When you use the term “teabaggers,” it’s not a insult to conservatives, you are actually insulting homosexual, you know the group that liberals claim to care so much about. Well, until they step off the plantation. To conservatives and others that don’t march in direct step with your line of thought, you come across as someone who lacks an expansive vocabulary. What’s the saying…when you start name-calling, you have all ready lost the argument.

      • Adela Wagner

WOW, you’re not a very good “hardcore lefty socialist” having obviously not read your bible; ‘Rules for Radicals’..but then again your ilk does have a rep of being rather lazy so I’ll give you a present- Alinsky Rule by Rule Part 2-Rule#1 under “caucus tactics”;”…supporters were routinely louder and more aggressive than the delegates
for the opposition. It didn’t matter if he had more delegates at the
beginning of the process as long as he had the loudest delegates..”

Now scurry off and brush -up, cause we’re on to you, even if it just so we can laugh.

        • JoeMyGodNYC

I don’t know of a single Lefist who considers any book their “bible.” Saul Alinsky is just another convenient boogeyman that is more known to the wingnuts than he is to progressives. Ditto George Soros, although to a lesser degree.

          • https://twitter.com/davidjkramer DavidKramer

So far you have said no one speaks for the left and now have even thrown Alinsky under the bus, what exactly is your left philosophy then? Got any clue or are you just here to troll?

          • JoeMyGodNYC

Nationalized health care, nationalized natural resources, stronger unions, higher taxes for the wealthy, more pay for public workers, stronger unions, transparent campaign finance laws, full civil equality for all citizens, immigration reform, complete disengagement from foreign wars, taxation of churches, stronger environmental protections, and the complete end of any religious influence on civil government. For starters….

          • https://twitter.com/davidjkramer DavidKramer

SO you are a communist, at least some of you have the balls to label yourself properly. I wonder why your representatives just don’t come out and admit it. I guess that lefties are just scared to espouse their true beliefs……….unless of course they are hidden behind an anonymous avatar. Funny how that is.

          • JoeMyGodNYC

If you think communism means what I stated, you clearly don’t understand your isms.

          • https://twitter.com/davidjkramer DavidKramer

What the HECK do you think nationalize means moron? It means the government seizing private property and the means to production. What the heck do you think communism is?

          • JoeMyGodNYC

Natural resources are not private property. Canada, for example, owns its oil supply and is the top exporter to United States, earning hundreds of billions for the government annually. But I guess you’d prefer America have a few more robber baron oil billionaires pulling the strings of your government to benefit themselves and other billionaires only.

          • https://twitter.com/davidjkramer DavidKramer

Ooops, hospitals, nurses, doctors, etc are natural resources too, if you consider them serfs or slaves. By the way commie, can you show me the Constitutional authority to seize our natural resources? Yeah, that is something easy to find as well smartass.

          • JoeMyGodNYC

Humans are not natural resources. You’re being silly. But do keep dancing to the tune of your billionaire masters. We can all see the strings, puppet.

          • https://twitter.com/davidjkramer DavidKramer

Ahhhh, I see you did not address the point. Typical communist not wanting to talk about the slaves you want. Hey, doctors should have their salaries set by the apparatchik…….By the way, you hero Chavez sure did cry when his time came didn’t he?

          • JoeMyGodNYC

Chavez was no hero of mine. He was a thug. But do keep on with the teabagger talking points. You’re almost halfway down the list!

          • https://twitter.com/davidjkramer DavidKramer

Still not addressing the point that you want to steal the property of natural resources………you know private property and to enslave 1/6th of our economy to the government. Typical commie……”I am not a commie, I just want to enact communist policy and we will do anything to do this. Including disarm the populace and when they fight back………kill them.” Nope, not a commie at all little fella. So Chavez is not your hero, you must be one of those new fangled commies then, you will implement better and more humane because you is smarter.

          • JoeMyGodNYC

You cannot steal what does not belong to any corporation or person. Stop stealing that air you’re breathing! Somebody should be making money on that!

          • https://twitter.com/davidjkramer DavidKramer

I own the rights to the minerals, water and other natural resources on my property. Sorry, if you want to enjoy your commie utopia, there are a bunch of countries for you to choose from. Like I said, we will defend our rights to our liberty and property with our lives.
“If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.”
            ― Samuel Adams

          • JoeMyGodNYC

The vast majority of oil (77%) and natural gas (81%) drilling takes place on public land leased to private companies. That will end here as it did in Canada in 1971 during the OPEC embargo. Personally owned property will be unaffected here, just as it was in Canada. All it will take is a crisis similar to the one experienced 40 years ago. The feds have already begun restricting new leases, although most of that change has come in offshore drilling, thanks to the environment rapers at BP.

          • Adela Wagner

Obama is trying, he has given the EPA a large brush to paint their own rules. If this idiocy keeps up, we shall be paying carbon taxes or have cap and trade in effect. The socialist ideals you stated above are indeed a gateway to Communism. You see, in this here country, we don’t take kindly to being robbed (taxed) in order for the elitists (Obama et al) to use our hard earned money in order to buy votes by giving “takers” presents. The billionaire masters you speak of do not force anyone to work for them, and many of them garnered their money by taking risks and creating companies that give many a chance to work. If, as you say the Right is for the rich, and keeps them rich to gather votes, then it makes sense that the Left does everything it can to keep the poor, poor for the same reason.

Every Communist country I have read about or have first hand knowledge of (my mother came here from Cuba in the 50’s) has NEVER benefited the people. Russian people suffered oppression for decades, Mao killed so many, and Castro has the Cuban people stuck and isolated. Forced charity NEVER works either, it creates animosity and makes charities suffer. When taxes go up, charitable giving goes down. I have been on Medicaid when I was a young single mother and it was sub-par care at best. I could not wait to get off it. And now we shall ALL end up on it. Disgusting, what these idiots you hold in high esteem, are doing to this great nation. An embarrassment sir. As far as the oil crisis of the 70’s…we had an idiot for President, and that whole deal showed WHY we should be drilling like hell here and promoting natural gas and fracking so we can tell OPEC to eff off.

          • JoeMyGodNYC

Tell that to Canada, which has an annual GDP *surplus*, unlike the United States. You’ll see soon enough. The GOP is circling the drain. We know this because the Tea Party screams that every day. We’ll soon effectively have one major party and two squabbling-amongst-themselves minor ones. We’re practically there right now.

          • Guest

By the way, sooner or later we are not going to put up with your theft any longer, I hope the left is prepared. You are not going to succeed like you did in Russia.

          • JoeMyGodNYC

So…what? You’re going to kill us all? Millions of us? Sounds like…Russia.

          • https://twitter.com/davidjkramer DavidKramer

Oh sorry, I forgot, in the new USSA people will not be allowed to keep their property. So defending one’s property is us coming after you. Geez you lefties are precious, bless your heart.

        • JoeMyGodNYC

You mean you’re a “hardcore lefty socialist living on govt welfare”?

        • JoeMyGodNYC

Nope. I’m self-employed and run my own small business. The Tea Party dream, really.

          • West_Coast

‘Im self-employed and run my own small business’

Interpretation: I find crap in my closet and garage and resell it on eBay.

          • JoeMyGodNYC

Nope. I live on the Upper East Side and do not need a car. Therefore, no garage. My carbon footprint is very small and deliberately so.

          • Adela Wagner

The Tea Party Dream would be to stop taxation without representation ie:Obamacare. That was the catalyst for the swell of people identifying as Tea Partiers. The Tea Party NEVER used that word “teabaggers” and anyone who uses it in a derogatory way towards these Americans has NO understanding of what the Tea Party is standing for, because if they did, they would know that ALL kinds of people are involved and that they are standing for ALL Americans, even the ones who are ignorantly against them.

          • Adela Wagner

The relationship between Democrat politicians and their constituent interest groups is the very definition of co-dependency, abuse, and dysfunction. The politicians know they can abuse their constituents in innumerable ways without fear of ever losing their votes and the constituencies punish the politicians by exhibiting behavior like this when even the mildest reforms are proposed. They deserve each other.

What else would they do in the City of Brotherly Love?? Anyone been to an Eagles game there?? What a bunch of class-free jackholes…

Philadelphia better look in its rear view mirror and see the state of affairs in Detroit. If not, this will be their reality sooner than later. If unions are yelling and screaming, you know that what is being proposed is the right thing!

  • https://twitter.com/davidjkramer DavidKramer

Freedom of speech never included your right to disrupt someone else’s speech. Your freedom of speech ends where it infringes on the freedoms of another. I am so sick and tired of these infantile actions, that is what they are. The leftist CANNOT debate in a civilized manner so what they do is attempt to limit the speech of others. Now, in this situation where the leftists are attacking their very own leftist Democrat leaders? Priceless.

One other thought on lefties, amazing isn’t it how they want a huge bureaucracy to employ them (lefties always gravitate toward working for government because they are tyrants at heart), but then begin to whine and cry when that very bureaucracy is used against them. If it was not so sad it would be funny.

Is bankruptcy the lesser evil? That’s the question governments at all levels ponder, as the red ink rises.

The folks who placed the junior senator from Illinois in the White House have – obviously – decided that a continuing descent into bankruptcy and insolvency is a lesser evil than seriously attempting to deal with the growing debt. In places like Wisconsin, we’ve seen the problems and the push-back awaiting any government which tries to do the latter.

As I’ve said before, America today is like the Titanic after it hit the iceberg. It is not a question of WILL America sink beneath a sea of red ink; it is simply a question of WHEN. The best that can be done is to lower the lifeboats – the reddest states – and row them as far from the sinking ship that is America, as we know her today. If this isn’t soon done, they’ll go down with the ship.

    • Canadian in USA

Of course they see it as the lesser of two evils – make it somebody else’s problem.
