Second Amendment defenders descend on Rep. Jim Moran’s anti-gun ‘conversation’ [video]

The poster really says a lot, doesn’t it?

Rep. Jim Moran (D-Va.) held a town hall meeting tonight called, “Preventing Another Newtown: A Conversation on Gun Violence in America.” Any good conversation covers multiple perspectives, but judging by the list of panelists, the public had to provide the opposing viewpoint. Invited guests included representatives from the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence, Mayors Against Illegal Guns and the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence.

Fortunately, Second Amendment supporters were there to speak for themselves.

Is Rep. Moran pro-choice when it comes to women’s method of self-defense? Next question.

Young Republicans of Arlington and Falls Church were on hand to greet attendees and provide first-hand coverage.

Yes, it was.

Gabby Hoffman has promised more details from the “conversation,” so stay tuned.

  • almarquardt

This is what the Founders intended: That the People speak for themselves and not be forced to depend on anyone else to do it for them. What a beautiful sight to see both the 1st and 2nd Amendments represented so well.

  • Scott Carroll

Methinks when Moran says “conversation” he means “soliloquy”.

    • CatHerder

      Or ‘monologue’.

Tweak that just a tad, one more “o”.

Can we please make make it a requirement that potential legislators have to pass a mental competency test? I know we can’t test every nut that would vote for them but maybe we could prevent some of the nuts who would run.

    • Paladin

I think that a simple civics test involving the three branches of government and their roles, plus the definitions of a Republic and Democracy should be administered and passed to get a “right to vote” card. This would weed out a lot of people who just vote because, “He is SO cute!” or “That person has a D next to their name.”

      • Worship Dancer

or “now who did they tell us to vote for again?” oh yea i actually heard that in the line to vote.

      • grais

That test, along with a mental competency test and a thorough background check, should also be administered in order to get a “right to run” card.

        • Paladin

It’s sad when my job requires a more severe background check than the highest office in the land.

One town tried to just remove the D and R behind the names of the candidates, the court decided that would make it too difficult for the Low Information Voters. The Republic is dead, long live tyranny!

        • Paladin

I actually have a friend who said he voted for BO because “he’s black.” I teased him about being a racist, and he was open minded enough to get the idea that giving preferential treatment because of skin color is an exact definition of racism.
Further conversation revealed that he really didn’t vote, but would have voted for BO if he could only find the polling station.

Maybe Jim Moran should focus his efforts where they can have an immediate impact. Like getting his son to not break his girlfriends skull.

“I can’t imagine why people would need assault rifles designed 4 military use.” -Rep. Jim Moran

These stupid liberals keep parroting that same line over and over. They have to keep being told that they are not the same as what the military uses, but they just can’t learn that… Dianne Feinstein has included military semi-auto rifles on her list of guns that are okay to buy, so maybe Jim Moran needs to ask Dianne Feinstein why people need an M1 Garrand, Browning BAR, or Mini-14.

(Hint): Using the divide and conquer strategy since the proposals by libtards are full of so many contradictions and conflicts.

    • walterc

The proper response to this moron would be “to defend themselves from police/military forces being used against them by an out of control government.”

    • AMCIT

The appropriate response is, of course, “It’s not the Bill of Needs”.

      • Nicki

Funny, that’s exactly what I said to him. He happened to be answering my question.

    • Rosech Levy

Well, we know Demos and liberals on the whole are ignorant on many things and issues. They are also considered low info voters! and should be recalled by their constituents now for treason and not following the Constitution to which they pledged allegiance and gave their oath to follow it.

      • http://twitter.com/keoth43 Ken Roth

Good response except for these points:
        1. Their behavior is bad enough, but it is not treason. Check out the Constitution for the definition.

        2. There are plenty of Republicans and others whom I call crypto-fascist/bolsheviks who behave the same way and who should be removed from positions of power and influence.

  • NRPax

    Dear Rep. Moran,

The internet and instant communication works just as well for conservatives as it does for liberals. Since you won’t give up until we’re subjugated, we won’t give up until you are beaten to the point you admit it.

  • NRPax

I noticed the banner that showed a hand blocking a gun. So the people at this meeting believe that putting your hand in front of the barrel will stop a bullet from hitting them? They’ve been watching too many cartoons in their formative years.

    • Clayton Grant

Ahh yes, the old wabbit twick of sticking a fingew in the bawwel.

It’s not the hand alone that will protect you. Its the sass that goes along with yelling “Your gun don’t scare me … talk to the hand!” that will protect you …

      (ok, I watched a terminator marathon the other day and I couldn’t resist … sorry .. I know, I’m a bad person.

      • NRPax

Ah. So that’s what I’ve been doing wrong. Good to know. Thanks!

Woman to Rep. Moran: “Why aren’t you pro-choice [on] self-defense for women?”
    http://hotair.com/archives/2013/03/12/woman-to-rep-moran-why-arent-you-pro-choice-on-self-defense-for-women/

Good question — which is why Rep. Jim Moran (D-VA) evaded it by complaining about the length of the questions.
It’s unclear what length of questions he expected. Perhaps it was something along the lines of “When you gonna grab the guns?”
Note too the loud cheers that erupt when the question is posed.
The question of rape is especially pertinent, since it is primarily a crime of domination and power. Why wouldn’t we want women to have the ability to change the power equation in these attacks? A properly trained and armed woman would still have an advantage over an attacker, or at least a fighting chance.

“Rep. Jim Moran (D-Alexandria) said that Ft. Hood wasn’t a gun-free zone.”

All federal military installations are gun-free zones. Not just anyone can walk around with a firearm, never mind a loaded firearm. Only authorized personnel can carry a weapon on a federal military installation. This comment rates right up there with the administrations position that the Ft. Hood shooting was work place violence… Nonsensical!

How can we have people like this debating whether or not to enact legislation impacting our rights? If they are incapable of talking intelligently on the subject, we cannot trust that they are capable of legislating on it! As the saying goes… the devil is in the details.

The first undertaking should be towards education… unfortunately the executive branch and some members of legislative body appear to believe that fear mongering is a better approach. I submit that they themselves are in dire need of education on the basics of weapons design and functionality.

All federal elected officials took an oath of office to support and defend the Constitution of the United States, the President took an oath to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States. Regardless of the personal beliefs of the individual, the second amendment is our right guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights… the very same documents they swore/affirmed to support and defend. If their word meant so little that they are willing to render them and their meaning impotent, their personal opinions should be viewed in the same light.

    • Rosech Levy

Further proving his stupidity and ignorance and being another sound bite follower and committing treason, which he probably doesn’t know he has because he swore his oath without EVER reading the Constitution nor the Bill of Rights. Recall him, people. Your cat would be far better informed than he.

  • AMCIT

It wasn’t Moran who said Fort Hood was not a gun-free zone. It was his “expert”, David Chipman. He’s wrong, of course, but he’s there as a paid shill.

    • Rosech Levy

That is no excuse whatsoever. We pay him a boatload to be knowledgeable and not just rely on “hearsay” from a supposed “expert”. Liberals are soooo dumb!

  • Rosech Levy

Love the “moran” part of that sign! Now think he might not be re-elected and rightly so for being so stupid and ignorant, and ignoring a citizen’s questions. This indicates he is taking care of himself and screw his constituents, which seems to be the flavor of this Congress doesn’t it?

The War Against the Second Amendment Has Only Just Begun
    http://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2013/03/the-war-against-the-second-amendment-has-only-just-begun.php
In an interview with Jason Mattera which was conducted last month but is just now hitting the news, Democratic Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky admitted that the Democrats’ effort to ban “assault weapons” is “just the beginning.” In addition, Schakowsky says that she wants to ban all handguns, and thinks this can constitutionally be done, despite the Second Amendment. I think it is obvious that Schakowsky was only saying what a great many Democrats believe.

In a closely related development, a New York judge has thrown out Mayor Bloomberg’s decree against selling “sugary drinks” in New York City in containers larger than 16 ounces.

Note how closely this reasoning applies to the Democratic Party’s effort to ban “assault weapons,” certain randomly designated semi-automatic rifles which are identified by cosmetic features.

Note how the last point applies precisely to another of the Democrats’ favored schemes, banning all magazines that are average-sized or above.

I draw two lessons from all of this. First, the battle over Americans’ Second Amendment rights has barely begun. Second, gun rights enjoy a solid foundation, as long as Barack Obama is not allowed to pack the Supreme Court with far-left judges.
