Derptastic: ‘Real journalist’ Juan Williams busted for plagiarism

Would anyone mind if we just copied and pasted our post on Fareed Zakaria getting busted for plagiarism and changed the name to Juan Williams? It’s pretty much the same scenario: “real journalist” Juan Williams was busted for plagiarizing entire paragraphs for a column published by The Hill last month. Williams blames his researcher and says he feels “betrayed,” so we’re supposed to feel bad for him or something.

For what it’s worth, the paragraphs which made it into Williams’ column on the immigration debate were lifted from a report by the Center for American Progress, a progressive think tank. At least Williams had the sense not to read from the report while in front of a TV camera, but he didn’t have the sense to check his researcher’s work before running with it.

Sooper Mexican has rounded up some media coverage of Williams’ no-no, and much like the treatment liberal Democrat Bob Beckel received when he made his outrageous comments on campus rape, Williams is now a generic “Fox News pundit.”

We hope funny bones are covered under Obamacare, ’cause comedian Elayne Boosler is in the house!

It’s funny because it’s true! Except that it’s not true.

Wait, Juan Williams is a liberal Democrat lifting material from a lefty think tank? Is that possible?

Go back to sleep, Brian Ross. Tireless media watchdog Howard Kurtz has got this.

  • AaronHarrisinAlaska

Do progs even realize how many liberals and libertarians Fox News employs or has contribute? I suppose if Comes still worked with Hanity he’d be automatically labeled a conservative as well.

    • scubaski00

The “crypt keeper” (Colmes) could NEVER be mistaken for a conservative…I don’t think he can even say the word! :)

      • AaronHarrisinAlaska

Neither could Juan, but look at him now. An honorary conservative and no one knew. Not even him.

      • Rightmindedmom

OMG! For years, I thought I was the only person that thought Alan Colmes looked like the crypt keeper! So happy I’m not alone! :0)

OMG! For years, I thought I was the only person that thought Alan Colmes looked like the crypt keeper! So happy I’m not alone! :0)

    • Kabong30

If it doesn’t jibe with their narrative, it doesn’t get reported, plain and simple. Ya know, this is where true conservatism is hamstrung (and hopefully, if sadly always will be). We just aren’t willing to lie to a populace that WANTS to be lied to. It’s a terrible position to be in. It’s like the patient father waiting for the prodigal to return.

  • HARP2

It`s understandable .Williams never did have a thought of his own.

    • catb55

Nope just parrots Obama talking points .. can we get rid of him now FOX ??? Please .. pretty please!

  • bonnieblue2A

Juan is just following in the steps of VP Biden.

    • JustLikeAnimals

      I remember “plagiarizing Joe.”

  • Lord Foggybottom

I’m waiting for the headline: MSNBC Pundit Caught Telling the Truth

    • CatHerder

      Do NOT hold your breath.

    • Clayton Grant

To paraphrase Touré … Data shows that would be a once in a lifetime event.

    • TocksNedlog

      Not on-camera you won’t.

    • E Quilibrate

What part of “lefty think tank” is oxymoronic?

  • SpaceRacer423

I don’t understand how anyone can blame a researcher for plagiarism.

A: you copied and pasted from another site without acknowledgment

B: Your “Researcher” copied and pasted from another site without acknowledgment & then you presented your researcher’s work as if it were you own.
The later seems worse, because it suggests that you actually make a practice out of not actually writing the columns you that bear your name.

    • SpinMeNot

The points you make in (B:), and your comment with regard to the latter being worse are correct, in my opinion The “take credit for the work of your underlings” is a common theme in academia amongst the left. Graduate students are typically little more than indentured servants, doing vast amounts of work for little, if any, credit. I do not find it hard to be believe that this is the way the left-stream media functions as well.

The left is a big fan of the concept of paying dues, and once you pay them, you are entitled to sit back, and take credit for the work of the next generation, err give them the chance to pay their dues.

  • Steve_J

Good thing he’s a “real” journalist and not just a blogger.

  • Sinjun

if Juan Williams blames his researcher.. then does that suggest the researcher was writing the columns in the first place? I thought Researcher = look up stuff and Juan Williams wrote, but that one suggests that Juan Williams hasn’t really been writing in the first place.

  • capisce

The liberal media gives Williams the same treatment Bob Beckel got over his stupid rape comment. They leave out the “liberal” qualifier because Fox News = conservative, homophobic, racist, sexist etc. and that’s all their readers need to know.

  • jb

Beckel, Colmes, Williams == buffoon. Williams get schooled by Malkin every time she and he are on together on Fox.

    • milletime810

I dont know, unlike Beckel and Colmes, Juan Williams generally comes off as a pretty intelligent and genuinely nice guy. Im rather disappointed actually, there is no excuse for plagiarism.

      • bonnieblue2A

Ummm….you mean that “genuinely nice guy” who slammed Malkin on Fox suggesting that between the two of them that he was the only “real journalist”?

Yeah right, he had to know that was going to come back to haunt him. This payback was on a luke-warm platter rather than a cold one.

Juan needs to put on his big boy undies and take responsibility. He must be reminded that “real journalists” verify sources and credit them instead of staking their reputation on their research assistant’s accuracy.

        • JustLikeAnimals

When sought for comment, Michelle Malkin was unavailable as she was reportedly still up on the roof doing a rousing rendition of the Birthday Dance and loudly shouting, “Eat it, biahces!!!” across the rooftops.

  • Maxx

Journalists relying on researchers to report on a President who requires a teleprompter.

    Bartender…make it a double.

    • JustLikeAnimals

There it is!!! Give this man a prize!

  • RightThinking1

Hey! It didn’t hurt Doris Goodwin. Heck, she got to sleep in the Lincoln bedroom. Not that PBS and The News Hour were in bed with Clinton…

Here’s a little known, and uninteresting, fact; Doris Goodwin was awarded the ‘Ken Burns Lifetime Achievement Award’, by…. wait for it…, Ken Burns. As much as I dislike the woman, her son Joseph has a Bronze Star after service in both Afghanistan and Iraq, so there’s that.

Williams is being attacked because he wandered off of the plantation, not because of some serious act of personal malfeasance. He may have been negligent, but he did not consciously steal someones work.

  • Angie

You know Juan’s a Dem by the way he’s blaming his assistant & not taking personal responsibility.

  • Chip

Obama isn’t responsible for Sequester. Hillary isn’t responsible for Benghazi. Of course, Juan Williams isn’t responsible for what he writes. Puleeeeease!!!

    • Ardell Simon

and Holder wasn’t responsible for Fast & Furious

  • Steve_J

When a person puts their name to something it’s their responsibility. Ask the IRS.

  • TocksNedlog

Well, we DID always know that he was parroting the day’s liberal talking points.

  • Garth Haycock

So, we’re to believe that Williams’ researcher hacked Williams’ word processor?

  • ClinkinKY

Could you people please spell her last name correctly? It’s BOOZER.

  • BigRed

His sons are Republicans. Have some more crow with your humble pie, Juan!

  • Guest

    Juan Williams IS a predictable lightweight, devoid of independent thought;
Pavlovian in his response when Obama is criticized.

  • vino veritas

Juan Williams has been nothing more than a kool-aid drinking lefty hack spewing liberal talking points and misrepresentations while masquerading as some sort of symbol for ‘moderate liberalism’ ever since Fox hired him as their big tent poster boy. He has hardly EVER been called out on the falsehoods he spews regularly at Fox News as he has by Michelle Malkin. The PTB at Fox have a vested interest in keeping him from taking on real debates with someone as savvy, informed, articulate and, to put it plainly, incredibly tough as Michelle is. As long as they don’t let him get too scorched then he is valuable to the longer term goals of their PR agenda. Different pundits/guests serve different purposes which makes Michelle Malkin like oil to Juan William’s water. She keeps the conservatives coming back while Williams gets the left leaning moderates tuning in.

  • edward cropper

ck my blog for Juan at work early on.

  • Jim Denney

Next up, Media Matters reveals “researcher” was actually a Koch Bros sponsored plant designed to discredit THE Juan Williams. Ya see? … the whole f’&%ing thing is RAAAAAACIST!

  • Wells Farr

I supported him when he was “shafted” by NPR. Looking more and more like that support was misplaced.

    • FlatFoot

  • Eric Hutchison

Juan Williams is completely in the tank for the communist President, another liar who would rather protect political allies than to do what’s right for the country. He gets what he deserves.

  • KansasGirl

HowardKurtz, shouldn’t it read: Juan Williams, “controversial left-wing pundit” gets caught plagiarizing: was it a major sin?
It would really help Boosler (and her comrades) from embarrassment. lol

  • narciso

Actually, if one reads the piece in question, he credits the original author, not the CAP report in the second instance, and names the source in the second, leaving out that it is a CAP report, which I say is the bigger issue.

  • Chrissy the Hyphenated

Clearly, Elayne Boosler has NEVER watched Fox News, because the Church
of the Left put it on the Banned List. She projects what her fave
stations do routinely (not report actual news, never let a Republican
get a word in edgewise), ASSuming this is what Fox does too. Except Fox
