Joy Behar leaving The View, wants to do ‘intelligent talk show’

Deadline Hollywood is reporting tonight that Joy Behar is leaving ABC’s “The View” after 16 and a half years on the show and is in the market for “an intelligent talk show where you have room to breathe.”

Behar’s talk show on Current TV is ending with the network’s acquisition by Al Jazeera, leaving the host looking for new opportunities. She says she’s writing a play and might get back into stand-up comedy. Will President Eye Candy stop by for one last love-in on the big couch for a special farewell?

Only one question looms larger than who will fill Behar’s seat.

  • nc

Note she said she “wants to do” didn’t say “was going to do.” She’s fishing without bait.

  • Billie Slash

The only ‘view’ this broad needs is a room with one–preferably somewhere in Europe.

    • Spatial Awareness

I was thinkin’ more like the middle east region. ~_^

  • Spatial Awareness

“”OMG. The View has been around for more than 16 years!?””

    • Jack Deth

Which may have a lot to do with the popularity of Sandra Fluke. The frightening number of illiterate Low Intelligence Voters. And their even less intelligent progeny.

  • mike_in_kosovo

She’ll serve the same purpose on an ‘intelligent talk show’ (would be a first for her, wouldn’t it?) as Beckel does on ‘The Five’… the counterpoint.

    • TugboatPhil

Since you mentioned that, have you ever seen the two of them in the same room at the same time??

      • mike_in_kosovo

        Good point!

    • SpinMeNot

In fairness, if Ms. Behar joined the ‘cast’ of MSNBC’s The Morning Joe, it might actually … no, sorry, even I can’t make a joke that absurd.

      • mike_in_kosovo

Between her and Blathering Bob, it might create a mass of stupidity so dense (IYKWIMAITYD) that it would tear the space/time continuum, causing a black hole.

Since that would result in the loss of Gutfeld as well as Blathering Bob and Behar, it’s contraindicated.

  • $27789750

Wonder who’ll take her place? Coveted job.

    • waltermitty2012

Well, if you want someone equally vile, you have to go with Rosanne Barr.

  • Jillane Kent

Wouldn’t her inclusion reduce the collective IQ of the “intelligent” talk show, thereby rendering it another View?

  • Stone Bryson

I was going to be sad about this, then I remembered I didn’t care…

  • Garth Haycock

It will never happen. Joy Behar and an intelligent talk show are mutually exclusive.

    • V the K

Joy Behar is as suited to be the host of an “intelligent” talk show as she is to being a contestant on America’s Next Top Model.

    • TheAmishDude

Perhaps she will be running the camera?

      • TugboatPhil

No. That requires more intelligence than the mouth-breathing gig she’s had for 16 years.

      • Jillane Kent

I believe that requires too much skill. Perhaps craft services will be a better placement.

      • pajamakat

        No, probably runing for office.

    • Secede

She’ll be on MSNBC next week…..

      • prlgrl

I am fairly certain she got fired from MSNBC for low ratings recently. Might have been CNN Headline News though. I don’t care enough to remember.

        • ceemack

Do people actually get fired from MSNBC for low ratings? If that were true, they’d have a new slate of hosts every other week.

          • prlgrl

Sorry, let me rephrase that. She got fired for ratings so low even MSNBC had to drop her. That is, if she was at MSNBC and not CNN Headline News. I honestly don’t care enough to look.

    • Christopher Hodgson

She’ll make the View a bit more intelligent, though. If only she would take Whoopi with her.

      • bunny06

Take them all except elizabeth that old hag baba really needs to go. SHe is way past her prime. That was back in george washingtons day

        • Letha Casey

Ms. Walters is over 80 and. has done so much for women throughout the years. have a little respect and a little class.whoopi is probably one oh the most informed people around…I get tired of. them talking over one another.,but that’s not so bad when hasselbeck is gone. noticed lately she is restraining herself a lot and seems to be very conserving. toward Barbara. my thought is she is hoping to get first chair soon. I feel Barbara will be stepping down soon and position will be out there looking to be filled. Elizabeth isnt the one

          • E Quilibrate

            Whoopi? Informed? Talk about
            mutually exclusive. Oxymoronic much?

      • Jillane Kent

        Or Sheri “What’s a library?” Shephard….

    • prlgrl

You know, I had that exact same thought…

    • TomJB

Maybe she can team up with Olberman for his webcast show. They would then have 2 viewers!

      • sunshine

    • arttie

Lets call the combination an oxymoron, heavy on the moron.

    • $23629333

Joy Behar brings to mind a spoof of “Cagney and Lacey” Benny Hill once did, playing both characters. With a different wig, his impersonation of Lacey would befit Behar.

  • Jack Deth

First up: Joy Behar interviews a Box Turtle and a Sack of Hammers.
Upset that she has met her intellectual overlords!!!

    • TugboatPhil

Stay tuned for tomorrow’s guests, Box of Rocks and Brick Wall!

    • $23629333

If you’re an animal lover, read no further.

Joy Behar was always a little slow. As a child, when her brother came home from the neighborhood pond, she asked what he had, and he said a box turtle. She thought he said a box of Turtles, took a big bite, and complained: “these big Turtles are way too hard.”

  • Melissa Banowski Anger

Now, I won’t have any reason to watch The Shrews, excuse me, The View. The only time that show is entertaining is when Bill OReilly is on. It’s fun to watch Joyless Blowhard throw eye daggers at Bill the entire time.

  • waltermitty2012

Her show will be on the new Al Jazeera network. Thanks, Al Gore.

    • Miss Clairee

Well we do have Al Gore to thank for creating the internet, don’t we? (Tongue-in-cheek)

  • Jeannie Thayer

Wouldn’t one have to be intelligent in order to do “an intelligent talk show?”

    • capisce

and M-e-o-w! Didn’t she just slam the rest of the ladies?

      • TugboatPhil

I heard a lead in to a commercial on local radio today. It was for Life Alert or something similar. The announcer started with, “Recently Barbara Walters was injured during a fall in her home. Many seniors…..”

I didn’t hear the rest because I was wondering if Babs knew she was about to replace the “I’ve fallen and can’t get up” lady on late night TV ads.

      • Jeannie Thayer

Without a doubt. The implication was that the rest of her co-hosts on the View, were not intelligent people.

  • kate_middleton

I might actually watch some with her gone.

They should try to find someone actually funny to replace her.

  • DV S1EOG

The first step in her doing an intelligent talk show is for her to stay away from ALL talk shows.

  • TocksNedlog

Doing an intelligent show would be a bold departure for her.

  • Jimni27

    Good riddance to bad rubbish.

  • disqus_e2F2oUH6C7

Intelligent and Joy Behar in the same sentence?? She should just join the Hollyweird has beens.

  • disqus_LASIg6epmj

    Bring in Rachel Duffy.

  • notenoughtime

The best news to come out of The View is a long time. Joy’s job as Pres. O’s cheerleader has come to an end so now it’s time to move. Now if only they could replace Barbara.

  • arttie

    OMG, How, pray tell.

  • FreedomFighter

Shes failed at everything on her own, she’ll need a little help from her friends, assuming she still has friends.

  • Brent Guthrie

    Hmmmmm…..Joy Behar……..Intelligent Talk show…..
Those two just do not fit together.

  • lainer51

don’t you have to be intelligent to do an “intelligent talk show”?
    Guess not!

  • Judy B

    Good riddance of bad rubbish.

  • Steve_J

As long as she’s on the show it would be impossible for her do do an intelligent talk show.

  • TheOriginalDonald

    Our sentiments on Behar’s departure-

  • Chip

Can’t believe I’ve been actively avoiding that show for 16 years….

    • Jay Stevens

I occasionally catch little pieces of the program when I am channel surfing. So far, the drop in my IQ has just been temporary.

  • Bill Board

How can one have an “intelligent” talk show when one has no intelligence?

  • bunny06

Intelligent and joy do not go hand in hand. Kind of like danica and driving!!!

  • Jillane Kent

If you only chose to record her most cogent and intellectual statements, you could save all of those 2,000 hours for more equally stimulating shows….such as Barney and Friends, The Teletubbies, or Keeping up with the Kardashians.

  • Donna W

I’d rather watch Jerry Springer and Maury ‘who my baby daddy is’ reruns, than Joy Behar.

  • Gregg Hammerquist

I would like to dedicate a song to this moment: Ding song the witch is dead! Which old witch? The wicked witch!

  • Jeffrey Harbin

It’s going to take a giant ass to fill that chair.

  • michael s

Her going after Sharron angle is the reason Harry Reid kept his Senate seat.

    • Jillane Kent

Considering her minuscule audience, what rational basis do you have for making such a bold statement? An ignorant populace and the power of incumbency are likely more responsible.

      • michael s

Ms angle was leading on the polls. The view played Sharron’s borders ad.behar went on a 3 day assault on Sharron, called her b—–s for 3 days and got people to turn against her. Just my opinion, you don’t have to agree.

  • notenoughtime

Behar has never had an intellligent conversation let alone be able to articulate one for viewers. She was funny when she first came on The View and then as usual she took advantage of the microphone to bully and demean. If the talk show gig doesn’t work, she can always sign on to be a White House tour guide for free!

  • kim

The problem is, what ‘intelligent’ talk show would want Joy?

  • $23089169

1 bitter, angry broad down. 2 to go.

  • saywhatsaywhat

Hope CNN gives her a show, so we can laugh at the fail all over again. She is a pathetic excuse for a human being.

  • aliwilcox

How about Michelle Malkin as her replacement? Or Dana Loesch? If Barbara had any guts she’d even the playing field, if only a little.

  • $23629333

Any truth to the rumor that Chaz Bono may replace her?

  • ceemack

“Room to breathe”? Well, if her brain has been oxygen-starved all these years, it would explain a great deal…

  • MissDiane47

Wait – what? Joy Behar wants to host an “intelligent” talk show? Bwahahahahahaha!! Time to change my shirt; I just spilled coffee all over it.

  • David

Joy Behar wanting to be on an intelligent show? If she is on it, the intelligence level of the panel will decrease dramatically.

  • mhojai

Sounds like she’s admitting that the View isn’t intelligent –didn’t realize she had that much sense…maybe there’s a place on SOuth Park for her…they seem to like the gutter.

  • Conservative First

Who is Joy Behar and what the hell is The View?

  • Jack Blair

“Wants to do intelligent talk show.” That joke practically writes itself.
