#AskMDDems: Maryland Democrats get a tweetful in Twitter town hall on sequestration

Sen. Barbara Mikulski, Rep. Steny Hoyer and other members of Maryland’s Congressional delegation hosted a Twitter town hall today to discuss with constituents the impact of sequestration cuts. Plenty were happy to have the attention of their representatives and sent the #AskMDDems hashtag trending.

The town hall gave legislators one more opportunity to ramp up the sequestration scare campaign and parrot the president’s call for a “balanced approach.”

And the questions kept coming.

Sequestration was the topic of the hour, but the conversation briefly touched on the environment.

Here’s one question we should have asked. We promise, it wasn’t us.

It’s amazing how stupid the government thinks we are.

    • bicentennialguy

It’s amazing how smart they think they are.

    • RblDiver

Sadly, last November proved they have a better than 50% chance at being right at that :/

    • disqus_eric

The populace in general is rather stupid. See the last 2 election results for examples.

      • BobbyBurnsit

They aren’t elections…. they are selections and your vote is meaningless.

      • BobbyBurnsit

They aren’t elections…. they are selections and your vote is meaningless.

    • Mark Stephens

Why should they think we are anything other than stupid? Look who we have elected (and re-elected) and sent to Washington.

    • Jim Russell

The voters Barb and O attract are stupid. …and dependent on Govt..

  • Maxx

Liberals greatest fear right now is their own base waking up on Friday morning to the same traffic jams and sh**ty overpriced coffee they always wake up to. In other words, this “sky is falling” chest-thumping crap is just that. Life goes on and for the most part, the majority of Americans won’t even notice the sequester. God forbid low intel voters might actually start to think “hmmm, you mean a budget CAN be cut and I won’t lose my job?”

    • SpinMeNot

I hope you are correct. I expect BHO to make this as painful as possible, and blame it on the right. He promised to veto the bill that would have made him entirely accountable for the outcome of the sequestration cuts, noting that he preferred immediate tax increases and spending cuts over the next ten years. The spending cuts will never materialize, and he’ll say, “Hey, I tried, but we could not find anything that could be cut”.

The Left has a sufficient number of the indoctrinated so dependent on government handouts that nobody is willing to give anything up. Responsibility is bad, dependency is good.

I am on a leave of absence from work, and I spent the day with my financial planner. At the next tax increase, I retire. I donate the vast majority of my retirement accounts to charity, keep only what is needed to ensure that I have enough to augment my pensions. I have no debt at all and sufficient resources to provide for my wife after I am gone. When BHO manages to declare me as being wealthy and increases my taxes, I will drop my income to $35K a year.

BHO, and the progressives can get stuffed. I’m done with government taking my money to give to other people to subsidize lifestyles and behaviors that are in direct opposition to my religious and political beliefs, then telling me that I am the problem. He’s going to be short the $45k or so a year that I’ve been paying for the last 15+ years.

I encourage those of you that can, to do the same.

      • BeautifulAmerica

Does a deaf guy with cerebral palsy qualify as charity?

        • SpinMeNot

I will be making an endowment to a local community storehouse, what is left will be split between a number of veteran support charities.

but thanks for the smile, I seem to be short of those recently.

          • BeautifulAmerica

Thanks so very much for thinking of our vets and being a generous and kind steward of your possessions.

    @Netmilsmom : Well, apparently 51.8% of us are….

  • susan schneider

wonder if they answered any of them, or run away what Dems are good at when the Tough Questions come out

    • Canadian in USA

      Bravely ran away?

Perhaps time for the Monty Python song? :)

  • CatHerder

    Stop indebting my grandbabies. Now.

  • milletime810

I wish i understood how people elect barbara mikulski over and over again

    • Orlando Cee

Exactly. Is it because the candidates that run against her are just so GD awful, or what? Based on Act for America’s scorecard, both she and Cardin both score a big fat F. http://www.actforamerica.org/index.php/learn/congressional-scorecard

      • Mom2Ian03

We run great folks against her unfortunately PG County, Mont. County, Baltimore County and City folks are too stupid to think for themselves and we get stuck with her and Cardin.

        • D’Bak61

We get that kind of crap in PA too. It’s mostly Philly and its suburbs along with Pittsburgh that pulls us to the left; hence Casey and others of his ilk. At least the local/state politics swings right…for now.

    • NRPax

You and me both. I live out in Montgomery County, which has an absolute mad on for taxing “evil rich people.”

      • Rusty Shackleford

Come out to Poolesville. We’re not drinking the Kool Aid out here.

    • 2ifbyT

I work in Maryland, but live in Virginia – that happens a lot in the DC area. The majority of Marylanders believe every word she says. They also believe Obama. This state is more blue than California.

      • Jim Russell

And what does Barb and Pres say: We promise more freestuff.

This much is true…and it buys votes.

  • https://twitter.com/davidjkramer DavidKramer

Why do you think the Dems have quit REAL townhalls and have gone the twitter route? They have OFA and their spambots on the ready!

  • https://twitter.com/davidjkramer DavidKramer

Next thing you know, the Dems will be creating VIRTUAL townhalls with VIRTUAL constituents………………..wait a minute, I think Stalin said something about that once.

    • SineWaveII

      Obama already tried that.

      • https://twitter.com/davidjkramer DavidKramer

Now you are getting the point I was making……….

  • https://twitter.com/davidjkramer DavidKramer

I wonder if Obama and the Dems have completed their implementation of the spambot brownshirt army? Remember, Obama’s major strategist suggested over 15 years ago having the government create a propaganda army to subvert the citizens on the internet. I am SURE they have not actually created such a thing……………right?

  • http://www.vatican.va/ Rulz

    Serious Question:

Do Marylanders even follow Mikulski, or they just keep on voting her in because of that D behind her name?

    I’d like to know.

    • http://twitter.com/thetugboatphil TugboatPhil

More likely the latter. I grew up in West Virginia and that’s how it was then.

    • http://www.facebook.com/138900508 Patrick Dennehy

People are so clueless about policy. It’s scary.

    • Jim Denney

Like many states, MD is gerrymandered into permanent plantation status. Even the WaPo had this to say: “Last fall, Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley (D) and the General Assembly redrew congressional districts
for the state, which the Constitution requires every 10 years. These
leaders produced an egregious gerrymander, one far more contorted than
the notorious 1812 Massachusetts map for which the word gerrymandering
      was coined….”

      • TomJB

a senator cant be blamed on jerrymandering. but the house reps, for sure

  • Mom2Ian03

Darn I missed it. All of them make me embarrassed to be from Maryland.

  • Canadian in USA

Surely they had to realize that they were going to get these type of questions. Nobody could be *that* naive.

    • Canadian in USA

      Oh, wait…

  • stellatruman

First the fiscal cliff, now the sequester and in two more months we will be facing yet another debt ceiling crisis…when will there be moves to cut the spending and get their act together , but more important, when will the libs and low info voters catch on and actually care about this ?

  • http://twitter.com/MoueLaMoue Moue La Moue (D)

Oh Lord. The stupid, it hurts so much. I’m going to and work 2% harder, because other people need my paycheck more than I do. Especially those MD Democrat Idiots.

  • Garth Haycock

One tweeter above had the right intentions with his question, but was mistaken about fact. Dear Leader didn’t endorse the sequester; he demanded that it happen.

I blame the media for him not realizing that it was Dear Leader’s idea.

  • http://www.facebook.com/138900508 Patrick Dennehy

Vote them out. I mean really how much proof do you need? Voting Dem is the definition of insanity.

  • NRPax

And so the first and last virtual town hall in Maryland comes to an end. The Congresscritters have been furiously writing out the restrictions they will put in place next time they have to meet with the unwashed masses.
