Lib film critic Richard Roeper: Would Hollywood have invited Ann Romney?

After Michelle Obama’s shameless cameo during last night’s Oscar ceremony, many lefties were scrambling to make excuses for the stunt. Liberal film critic Richard Roeper was not among them. Falling out of lock-step, Roeper dared to question the White House-Hollywood industrial complex:

Interesting question.

Intellectual honesty from a showbiz liberal? That’s a rarity, indeed, and one that conservatives can appreciate:

Roeper wasn’t the only “card-carrying liberal” immune to the White House’s charms. Nikki Finke, founder and editor-in-chief of Deadline Hollywood, wasn’t into the love-fest, either:

We’re nothing if not realistic. And while we don’t expect the Hollywood-Obama lovefest to end anytime soon, it is refreshing, and somewhat encouraging, to see that at least a few libs in the entertainment industry are emerging from the haze.

I wonder if Roeper will be chastised by Roger Ebert? It’s so bad that one does question what ramifications may exist for those who leave the flock for a breath of fresh sanity.

Thanks. I forgot about Ebert. He’s to the left of friggin’ Stalin !

Since his vocal cords got removed, Ebert’s blogs and Tweets show his hate for America more than he ever verbalized !

There was a film or it was on TV (that HE probably “reviewed”), they gave the guy a computer to communicate and it turned out that he was an a**hole and nobody liked him…..IRONY

Invite Ann Romney? Are you kidding? These malcontents couldn’t get past Clint Eastwood, an accomplished actor and director, for his appearance at the RNC. They attacked him relentlessly for weeks, throwing every insult imaginable.

And yet the First Lady presenting a “Best Picture” Oscar whilst using uniformed military personnel in full dress uniform as backdrop props?

A liberal wet dream come to life.

Is it any wonder a growing number of citizenry laugh at these sanctimoniousness hypocrites.

Funny that libs praised Eastwood endlessly after they thought he was endorsing Obama with that weird “Half-time in America” Super Bowl ad, but then he shows up to support Romney with the brilliant “empty chair”, and libs start calling him psycho. You guys hurt your necks badly from that mood whiplash?

        • michael s

actually when he did that half time with America it was conservatives that turned on him. he was accused of running a Obama re election ad.a white house campaign etc. your statement of that weird half time in America ad proves my point. he had to get back on the conservative plantation. i always knew his political leanings. .still waiting on the box office receipts of his last flop of a movie.

Actually, conservatives didn’t ‘turn on him’…I and many others on this side merely lamented the fact that he let the Obama administration use him as a mouthpiece.

          • salvagesalvage

She did say that living next to Russia gives her foriegn policy experience. At least that’s what she was trying to say, it was a gibberish word salad.

What Tina Fey said wasn’t what Palin said but it was just as funny and conveyed the overall ditzyness.

          • TexSizzle

A governor of a border state has (admittedly limited) foreign policy experience by virtue of having to work with the bordering country. As for Tina Fey, a: I do not find her amusing; b: apparently the majority of leftists don’t know the difference between her and Sarah Palin. To this day, most leftists swear that Palin made the BS comment you declare to be “just as funny”. I agree: it was just as funny, that is, not funny at all.

          • salvagesalvage

Nope, Palin was asked a direct and reasonable question and Palin basically said living next to Russia is like having foreign policy experience.

And I know you don’t find Tina Fey amusing, you are wingnut and wingnuts don’t get humor.

        • RightThinking1

Sigh. Do I have to do this AGAIN? Oh, well:

“One way or the other, we are determined to deny Iraq the capacity to develop weapons of mass destruction and the missiles to deliver them. That is our bottom line.”
–President Bill Clinton, Feb. 4, 1998

“If Saddam rejects peace and we have to use force, our purpose is clear. We want to seriously diminish the threat posed by Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction program.”
–President Bill Clinton, Feb. 17, 1998

“Iraq is a long way from [here], but what happens there matters a great deal here. For the risks that the leaders of a rogue state will use nuclear, chemical or biological weapons against us or our allies is the greatest security threat we face.”
          –Madeline Albright, Feb 18, 1998

“He will use those weapons of mass destruction again, as he has ten times since 1983.”
–Sandy Berger, Clinton National Security Adviser, Feb, 18, 1998

“[W]e urge you, after consulting with Congress, and consistent with the U.S. Constitution and laws, to take necessary actions (including, if appropriate, air and missile strikes on suspect Iraqi sites) to respond effectively to the threat posed by Iraq’s refusal to end its weapons of mass destruction programs.”
Letter to President Clinton, signed by:
          — Democratic Senators Carl Levin, Tom Daschle, John Kerry, and others, Oct. 9, 1998

“Saddam Hussein has been engaged in the development of weapons of mass destruction technology which is a threat to countries in the region and he has made a mockery of the weapons inspection process.”
-Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D, CA), Dec. 16, 1998

“Hussein has … chosen to spend his money on building weapons of mass destruction and palaces for his cronies.”
          — Madeline Albright, Clinton Secretary of State, Nov. 10, 1999

“There is no doubt that … Saddam Hussein has reinvigorated his weapons programs. Reports indicate that biological, chemical and nuclear programs continue apace and may be back to pre-Gulf War status. In addition, Saddam continues to redefine delivery systems and is doubtless using the cover of a licit missile program to develop longer-range missiles that will threaten the United States and our allies.”
Letter to President Bush, Signed by:
          — Sen. Bob Graham (D, FL), and others, Dec 5, 2001

“We begin with the common belief that Saddam Hussein is a tyrant and a threat to the peace and stability of the region. He has ignored the mandate of the United Nations and is building weapons of mass destruction and th! e means of delivering them.”
          — Sen. Carl Levin (D, MI), Sept. 19, 2002

“We know that he has stored secret supplies of biological and chemical weapons throughout his country.”
          — Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002

“Iraq’s search for weapons of mass destruction has proven impossible to deter and we should assume that it will continue for as long as Saddam is in power.”
          — Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002

“We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seeking and developing weapons of mass destruction.”
          — Sen. Ted Kennedy (D, MA), Sept. 27, 2002

“The last UN weapons inspectors left Iraq in October of 1998. We are confident that Saddam Hussein retains some stockpiles of chemical and biological weapons, and that he has since embarked on a crash course to build up his chemical and biological warfare capabilities. Intelligence reports indicate that he is seeking nuclear weapons…”
          — Sen. Robert Byrd (D, WV), Oct. 3, 2002

“I will be voting to give the President of the United States the authority to use force — if necessary — to disarm Saddam Hussein because I believe that a deadly arsenal of weapons of mass destruction in his hands is a real and grave threat to our security.”
          — Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Oct. 9, 2002

“There is unmistakable evidence that Saddam Hussein is working aggressively to develop nuclear weapons and will likely have nuclear weapons within the next five years … We also should remember we have always underestimated the progress Saddam has made in development of weapons of mass destruction.”
          — Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D, WV), Oct 10, 2002

“He has systematically violated, over the course of the past 11 years, every significant UN resolution that has demanded that he disarm and destroy his chemical and biological weapons, and any nuclear capacity. This he has refused to do”
          — Rep. Henry Waxman (D, CA), Oct. 10, 2002

“In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock, his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including al Qaeda members … It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons.”
          — Sen. Hillary Clinton (D, NY), Oct 10, 2002

“We are in possession of what I think to be compelling evidence that Saddam Hussein has, and has had for a number of years, a developing capacity for the production and storage of weapons of mass destruction.”
          — Sen. Bob Graham (D, FL), Dec. 8, 2002

“Without question, we need to disarm Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal, murderous dictator, leading an oppressive regime … He presents a particularly grievous threat because he is so consistently prone to miscalculation … And now he is miscalculating America’s response to his continued deceit and his consistent grasp for weapons of mass destruction … So the threat of Saddam Hussein with weapons of mass destruction is real…”
          — Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Jan. 23. 2003

Of course George Tenet, as head of the CIA, and Clinton’s appointee, assured Bush that the WMD were real, and were there, but never mind that…, just maintain the “Bush lied” mantra.

Why do we even have an Oscar show? Isn’t everyone supposed to get a trophy so we don’t have any self esteem issues? That’s what they teach in our schools. At the very least we should just have a group picture of the finalists in each category all holding up their trophies. After all, we don’t want anyone feeling inadequate for not winning.

    • salvagesalvage

Actually that’s why they say “The Oscar goes to” rather than what they used to say “The winner is”.

      Yes, it’s pretty sad.

When the true measure of the carnival huckster and his sycophantic following is exposed, liberals will finally realize how idiotic they’ve been. Their petty vanities, combined with the crushing realization they are living as frauds, will produce a few more mass murderers — like the left wing acolytes in Connecticut, Colorado, etc. — and lots of stench in the landfills across the country. Couldn’t happen to a more deserving bunch of folks.

Big word in the question : IF

          Try again

          • Jack Deth

Evidently, michael doesn’t care how far down into the gutter Obama and his shrewish puppet mistress and her girlfriend, Valerie drag this country.

I wonder if michael will as snotty when his mom kicks him out of the basement to take in some rent paying other than Low Intelligence Voter(s)?

        • http://www.facebook.com/richard.jefferies.96 Richard Jefferies

Michael, we’ll try to talk slowly. Are you ready? In eight, that’s 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8 years, did Laura Bush ever get invited to the Oscars? Before you head explodes, the answer is no. The rhetorical question Mr. Roper was rightly asking was (you do know what a rhetorical question is right?) if Mitt HAD won, would Anne be were Moochelle was? The answer is obviously no, demonstrably indicating Hollywood’s bias.

  • http://twitter.com/lazypadawan lazypadawan

According to the Naked D.C. blog, FLOTUS was part of the show because Harvey Weinstein, major Obama donor, insisted on it. We should just call Hollywood The Department of Diversion, part of the Federal Ministry of Propaganda.

    • https://twitter.com/davidjkramer DavidKramer

      MiniTru for short.

  • http://Twitter.com/jkerrysforehead John Kerry’s Forehead

Wonder if Moochelle is going to run in 2016. Scary thing…she’d probably get elected.

    • http://www.facebook.com/donna.french.756 Donna French

Well, it would be the second Obama with not an ounce of experience to helm the ship into the berg. Then again, SEIU is bussing in union members to Albany, NY, TO PROTEST FOR GUN CONTROL. Oh, yes, that’s an obvious connection.

  • $23629333

If Mitt Romney were now occupying the White House, Ann Romney might have been invited to the Academy Awards, and she would have been received and presented much as Sarah Palin was when she appeared on SNL.

  • http://www.GONINERS.com/ Kristine

Umm, why do you any of you respond or interact with salvagesalvage? He’s clearly a troll intending to get a rise out of people. Getting involved with him pretty much backs up his claims of stupidity.

    • http://www.facebook.com/lisa.dean.564 Lisa Dean

I actually like debating @salvagesalvage:disqus because after he gets his posts beaten down by us he leaves for a while.

  • http://extremesplash.wordpress.com/ Ben Bollman

I like Richard Roeper, he is a liberal(like most from Chicago) but I think he tries to be fair-minded and objective about with conservatives. At least more so than Roger Ebert anyway. I remember Roeper defending Passion of the Christ and that always stuck with me for some reason.

    • Eric Schmitt

i read Roeper’s column at the Chicago Sun-Times on a regular basis and i can confirm that unlike most hardline liberals, he does at least try to be objective about most political matters. (as well as non-politcal ones)

  • oneword

    The Obamas are Hollywood

  • Jim DeAcutis

Not only wouldn’t they have invited Ann Romney but I bet they would have found it necessary to throw a few “good natured” zingers her and her husbands way…

  • Jack Deth

Kudos to Mr. Roeper for positing the question. Even though Obama’s bed wetting liberal media minions will massacre him for it.

  • http://twitter.com/KHShan Kay Shan

Barack and Michelle should be nominated each year for both Academy Awards & Oscars. Acting and directing are all they do…there is certainly no leadership or meaningful good for the country.

  • notenoughtime

Even if Ann Romney had been invited, pretty sure she would have declined the invitation.

  • rickg62

Would hope Ann Romney would have had the good taste to say no thank you.

  • V the K

Ah, so Chuck E. Cheese has paused in his search for Natsies behind every bush and wielding his mighty banhammer against dissenters to defend M’Chel?

    LGF, what a joke

  • http://www.facebook.com/corey.dennison Corey Dennison

LGF = Left-wing loonie conspiracy site.

    Thanks for playing, numbnut.

  • salvagesalvage

This is what I love about wingnuts, you show them being wrong / stupid / vile when they deny being any such a thing and they completely ignore it.

I guess they think you won’t notice that they aren’t noticing.

No, they really aren’t very smart.

  • http://www.facebook.com/corey.dennison Corey Dennison

Hell, you were shown to be flat out wrong several times on the Giffords thread. It didn’t seem to shut your pie-hole.

Tell us all again how AR-15’s are ‘military hardware’ and are supposedly used by our military.

Or tell us how the Dems apparently didn’t filibuster the Civil Rights Act.

    No, you aren’t very smart.

  • http://www.facebook.com/lisa.dean.564 Lisa Dean

Actually @salvagesalvage:disqus when you’re shown to be wrong/stupid/vile you eventually get fed up and disappear for a while. You completely ignore facts and then start a rant from left field that has nothing to do with the posts. I guess you think we won’t notice and no, you’re really not that smart either.

  • salvagesalvage

Ha! Ha! Yes! He made up all those posts! It’s a total conspiracy that wingnuts have an obsessive hatred of Michelle Obama.

  • V the K

Does Chuck E. Cheese still think Anthony Weiner was framed by hackers? Does he still think the flag of Tennessee is a “Notsy Emblum?”

  • salvagesalvage

Yes, there is nothing military about the AR-15!

And the Dems who did the filibustering? What party did they go to after again? You know that right? That those Dems LEFT THE PARTY because THEY HATED THE BLACKS. They were welcome to the REPUBLICAN party that initiated the SOUTHERN STRATEGY which the GOP recently APOLOGIZED for.

Wingnuts! Are they so stupid that they think everyone else is just as?

  • V the K

LMAO. I bet Sarah Palin knows the AR-15 isn’t a military weapon.

(Holy Cow, I am laughing SO HARD right now!)

  • http://www.facebook.com/corey.dennison Corey Dennison

Like Robert Byrd did? Oh…wait. But, how can that be, since HE’S the one that set the filibuster ercord, and he DIED A FREAKING DEMOCRAT!
    “Bwaaaak! Southern Strategy! Bwaak!”

  • http://www.facebook.com/lisa.dean.564 Lisa Dean

Oh I see you’ve brought the supposed “Southern Strategy” argument over to this article. Interesting because as I told you before, the Southern Strategy was actually created by Democrats. Try again

  • http://www.facebook.com/lisa.dean.564 Lisa Dean

And no @salvagesalvage:disqus there isn’t anything “military” about an AR-15. I’ve schooled you on this before. Do we need to go over it again?

  • SpinMeNot

Please provide names of the Dixiecrats that became Republicans and continued to support Segregation.

    We’ll wait.

  • SpinMeNot

2005 is not recently. And it was one guy, the RNC chair, to a private audience and there was a great deal of head shaking from many in the GOP as the so called Southern Strategy was never a plank of the GOP. It was a Richard Nixon strategy, and well, Nixon was a nightmare on many fronts.

Where is your angst over Obama and the DNC doing the same thing in the inner cities today? Where is your outrage over the fact that this country is more polarized now that it has been since the end of WWII. I’ve lived through it.

And for the record, it was the Republicans that pushed and past civil rights in the US. You are delusional if you believe otherwise.

  • salvagesalvage

Who renounced his racism, the rest of the philibusters, where’s the go again?

See what I mean, when shown to be wrong the wingnut just ignores it like nothing of the sort happened.

Again, can’t tell if it’s on purpose or some sort of ego defense mechanism.

  • http://www.facebook.com/corey.dennison Corey Dennison

Uh, yeah. He never renounced his racism, and still used the “N” word on national television. But whatever…he was a Dem, so all is forgiven, right?

It’s always fun watching you leftards twist yourselves into pretzels explaining away your racist roots. Like the KKK.

“Coming up next: salvage does his famous parrot imitation by squawking about the southern strategy…or something. And later, we’ll be talking about those ‘military-grade’ AR-15’s that are not used by any military.”

  • http://www.facebook.com/lisa.dean.564 Lisa Dean

No one renounced his racism from the left. Especially Robert Byrd because he was proud of his racist/KKK past and let everyone know who asked about it. Do some research already.

  • CherDash
  • salvagesalvage

I know you keep saying that but it’s still not true.

  • salvagesalvage

Again, facts, are you allergic to them?

  • http://www.facebook.com/lisa.dean.564 Lisa Dean

Denial – the biggest river that leftnuts only know.

  • http://www.facebook.com/lisa.dean.564 Lisa Dean

No, actually I’m not. I’m just allergic to leftnut BS. However, you seem to be unable to do research on one of the most documented racist Democrat Robert Byrd. At least learn some facts before you try to offer curt little statements.

  • salvagesalvage

    Pretty much all of them.

  • salvagesalvage

AHAHAH! NIXON WASN’T THE GOP!!! The RNC has nothing to do with the GOP! Oh wingnuts!

  • SpinMeNot

Do you actually understand politics? The RNC has nothing to do with the GOP? That has to be the most ignorant thing I have ever seen on the internet. I’ve seen bags of hammers that are more informed than you are. Try going to GOP.com or do a Google search using “GOP and RNC”. The links will prove you don’t know what the hell you are talking about.

As someone else suggested, stop lying or just go away.

  • salvagesalvage

    Obtuse defined.

  • SpinMeNot

buy a dictionary — there was nothing obtuse about my response. Like all liberal cowards, you can’t respond like an adult so you deflect or call names.

You need to a better job, or your handlers will withhold your treats and you won’t have the energy to hump your coconut.

  • SpinMeNot

So, you don’t know … at least you aren’t making names up.

  • salvagesalvage

Obtuse wingnut can’t tell when it’s obtuse.

  • SpinMeNot

Really, that is best you can do? I can understand you thinking it obtuse, you are after all a liberal and logic is an anathema to you.

Please continue to cooperate in proving my points about you.

  • salvagesalvage

We shouldn’t be so cruel to the wingnut, after all it doesn’t understand sarcasm and irony so there is a whole world that its cut off from. It’s a small wonder they are so angry and confused.

Could you imagine this one watching Colbert? Why is everyone laughing? It would ask over and over again.

  • SpinMeNot

I’d call that pathetic, but that would be unfair to pathetic people everywhere. When you graduate from pull ups to big boy undies, let me know.

    *yawn*

  • salvagesalvage

Still can’t master the zing, just rehashed hackneyed chum.

  • SpinMeNot

Ok, so now that we have clearly established that the only way you can get attention and feel good about yourself is to behave exactly like BHO. Ive asked you questions that you refuse to answer, you attempted to insult me and inflate your ego, I’ve called you out as the immature child you are blah blah blah.

You’ve lied, proven you don’t understand the political system in this country , can’t name the 10 dixiecrats that jumped to the republican party and thoroughly proven yourself to be just another intolerant liberal drone I’m going to something rewarding, clip my toenails.

See you around Junior, you and Mr. Mull have be very cooperative, and I greatly appreciate it.
