TPM’s Josh Marshall not impressed with Buzzfeed’s cute take on liberal hypocrisy

Buzzfeed takes a lot of flak for trying to strike a balance between cute cat photos and “serious” political coverage, but Talking Points Memo’s Josh Marshall took issue with Buzzfeed’s GIF-heavy take on liberal hypocrisy, “7 Things Democrats Would Have Freaked Out About If Bush Had Done Them.” Because when Buzzfeed asks why Democrats aren’t outraged about Guantanamo, or the Afghanistan surge or drone strikes, it looks all like this:

Marshall was all like:

But then Buzzfeed’s Ben Smith was all like this.

This is unexpected.

It is late, and North Korea very likely just set off a nuclear bomb. We’re going to check out some cute kittens while we wait for the White House to reassure us everything’s under control.

Well, darn. Maybe the Breitbart crew is finally getting to the people over at Buzzfeed. Buzzfeed and TPM are both doctrinaire Obama mouthpieces, but credit where it’s due, at least the Buzzfeed liberals are attempting to engage with reality.

    • V the K

No, Buzzfeed are still reliable Obama fluffers when it matters. Now that the election is over, they can do an occasional piece like this and claim “See, we hit both sides.”

      • V the K

Having said that, it is painfully apparent the piece struck a nerve.

Talking Points Memo or Tall Pile of Manure? It’s a trick question, they’re pretty much the same thing.

  • Jimni27

There may be hope for Buzzfeed yet. Of course, it woulda been nice had they started questioning Obama BEFORE the election.

    • Tom Bannigan

Leave them in the crap they created. I don’t care if they are starting to see the truth.

      • Jimni27

That’s your prerogative, but over 200,000 people viewed that article, and if you read the comments, there is a lot of buyer’s remorse about voting for Obama. The top comment expressing regretting voting for him had over 200 likes. And Buzzfeed hardly even gets a third of that in any given article on politics. That can only help in future elections.
I also think it’s a testament to sites like Twitchy and Breitbart and people on Twitter for continuously calling out the likes of Buzzfeed and MSM. It’s working, IMHO.

For years Ben Smith has accused anyone who opposes Obama of being a racist & talking trash. Now Ben Smith is being called a racist & accused of “trash talking” by fellow Obama apologist John Marshall. The worm certainly has turned.

    • Jim Russell

“I think when you suggest your interlocutor is a racist, then accuse him of trash talk..”

Classic tactic to try to end an argument a liberal suspects they’re losing. Surprised you had to be bit by that dog to realize it wasn’t friendly @BuzzFeedBen?

    • Rudy

These worms certainly turn my stomach.

  • RevDrEBuzz

That was literally a circle jerk.

Buzzfeed libs are just anti-drone and a piece slipped through that had facts that made other libs feel guilty (aka need to attack!). Buzzfeed is still happy to sit silent (more often collaborate) to Obama’s destruction of the country for the short term benefit of dem party special interests.

  • Adam Skrzypczak

    Talk about friendly fire…

  • Kim Davis Daniel

I realize it is twitter, but could Josh Marshall at least spell the words out completely? He looks like a teenager who can’t be bothered to use proper spelling and grammar. And I think he loses this one. There isn’t a democrat alive who wouldn’t be screaming about Bush or any other GOP president if they were using drones the way Obama currently is.

We need more of these hipster on hipster twitter cat fights.

this article makes no sense to me.
