‘Hercules’ actor Kevin Sorbo: Dr. Ben Carson ‘should be our president’; Carson leaves door open

Dr. Benjamin Carson’s headline-grabbing speech at the National Prayer Breakfast prompted the Wall Street Journal to title an editorial “Ben Carson for President.”

“Hercules” and “Andromeda” actor Kevin Sorbo is on board. If you haven’t checked out Carson hammering political correctness, the national debt and more, make time to watch the video this weekend.

Sorbo has plenty of company:

On Friday, Sean Hannity asked Dr. Carson if he’d ever consider a bid for the presidency.

He didn’t say “yes,” but …

If the Lord grabbed me by the collar and made me do it, I would,” he told Hannity.

We have a feeling Bob Beckel and Kirsten Powers won’t like that answer.

Obama: the first Affirmative Action president.

    • aPLWBinAK

      Also the first “No-Fault President”

    • Considerthis

And now we could have a truly great president that we ( black, white , and all the shades in between) could honestly be proud of. It just so happens he’d be black! And he’s gorgeous!

  • Woody Pfister

I would like to know if Pres Obama even saw this coming, or did he assume a black man was going to give him praise and hosannas?

    • Txgirlinnh

Idk he might have been blindsided. He looked happy enough at first but as Dr. Carson’s speech went on I don’t see how he could have pursed his lips any harder. If only we had been able to see the FLOTUS’s reaction- oh the daggers she must have been shooting out of her eyes

      • Elaine

I think Ben’s story is the story of many of us who worked our way out of poverty and appreciated the opportunities and freedoms in this great country to do so. He gets it.

        • Txgirlinnh

I agree. His story (like so many others) is the epitome of the ‘American dream’. He should be an inspiration for young people in our country. Instead, they seem to be entranced by president ‘fair share, Bush’s fault, I’m above the constitution, you didn’t build it’ Obama. I doubt any of them have ever heard of Dr. Carson or his amazing accomplishments and it’s a damn shame.

    • Considerthis

Obama just didn’t think anyone would have the courage. Obama can have the IRS fight his battles.

  • Txgirlinnh

I would vote for this gentleman in a heartbeat. He is brilliant and honest. He has an inspiring story as well as an understanding of the disabling path our nation is heading down. I believe we’d be truly blessed as a country if we were ever able to call Dr. Carson-Mr. President. Or would it be Dr. President?

  • almarquardt

“If the Lord grabbed me by the collar and made me do it, I would.” I LOVE that answer.

I also had to laugh, because that’s often the way God gets me to do the things I’m supposed to, but don’t necessarily want to.

    • tjcuzns

    • Michael Ferrin

So now, shouldn’t all good Christians be praying to the Lord to grab him by the collar and make him so it?
Or for agnostics like me, should one of us dress up like the Lord and sneak into his bedroom at night and do the same?

      • almarquardt

Neither (assuming your questions aren’t rhetorical). Personally, I don’t think Dr. Carson’s talents will be best used by being president. Children with neurological problems and people without hope in their lives need his talents more.

Then again, who am I to assume to know the mind of God? He’s surprised me before and will surprise me again I’m sure.

Anybody remember what happened to Jack Ryan? By the time the toilet dweller with the mustache was done, he looked like the biggest degenerate this side of the aforementioned toilet dweller. Ryan ended up withdrawing his candidacy, and the man now occupying the Oval Office was able to become the junior senator for Illinois without having to muss his perfectly creased slacks.

The toilet dweller and his fellow dwellers of the toilet similarly went after Sarah Palin and Mitt Romney.

If this Dr. Ben Carson were to become an important person within the GOP, he would soon become America’s most scandalized physician since Dr. Samuel Mudd – thanks to the toilet dwellers. Don’t think his pigmentation would protect him. Clarence Thomas, Allen West and Herman Cain can disabuse you of that notion.

    • peteee363

actually, i blame the first obama victory on the chairman of the republican party in illinois. she is the one who insisted we needed to import alan keyes, so our black could compete with thier black. alan is a good guy, but never deserved to be on the ballot. i had to hold my nose when i voted in that elecion. and she is still the party chair for illinos, somehow.

      • $23629333

Here’s a timeline for that election in Illinois, in 2004:

March, Jack Ryan wins Republican primary
June, judge releases Ryan’s child custody records
        July, Ryan withdraws candidacy
August, Alan Keyes* replaced Ryan as Republican candidate
November, Barack Obama soundly beats Keyes

The Chicago Tribune and WLS-TV led the push to have Ryan’s divorce records released. Here was an early indication of what the Demedia** could and willingly would do on behalf of the man selected*** to be America’s 44th POTUS. Recall that the same Demedia ridicules anyone who asks questions about or seeks documentation regarding the background of the man now occupying the Oval Office.

(* he was not a resident of or otherwise familiar with the state of Illinois)

        (** short for Democratic media)

(*** remember the words of Rev. Wright: “President Obama was selected before he was elected, and he is accountable to those who selected him.”)

    • Considerthis

I believe, I believe, and if God pulls him by the collar, He will protect him. Anyone with faith has been praying for this man and should continue to do so.

    • Cheryl Davis Miller

  • Judy

I liked Dr. Carson’s speech, however, I did not share it because I think his idea to mandate/force every baby to sign up for health savings accounts is out and out tyranny..forcing them into electronic medical records and mandating HSA’s for every little baby. Whatever happened to the idea of Free Enterprise..the right to freely choose our path in life without enslaving little babies into a health choice they may not want, and the added slap in the face of forcing them into electronic medical records–there goes their God-given freedom and privacy right from the day they are born! And, why, I ask, do we need government’s intervention to save our own money when and how we so choose? We should be free to make that important decision ourselves, without government mandating it, and especially at birth! The problem with our healthcare system right now is that it has been abused by illegals who come here illegally to our country and then take advantage of the healthcare system, and Obama and even some Republicans are considering making illegals “Legal” which will only glut the system all the more! To even suggest punishing law-abiding citizens who have paid their way in health care for years but choose to self-insure..pay privately is wrong. There is and should not be one size fits all for everyone. And that’s why as President Reagan so aptly said, it may all sound helpful and kind, but in the end it is a slippery slope to Socialism. Dr. Carson’s suggestion re this idea, is not freedom that is a gift from God to our country. No, despite how smoothly his suggestion was delivered, it is plain and simply another idea akin to tyrannical mandating, once again, of We the People, and whether coming from the Right or the Left, I believe it is dead wrong. And, worse yet, it looked to me like Obama made a note of it as the good doctor was speaking. Do we really need to add another layer of weight and further enslavement like this to little innocent babies, before they can even talk and say to government, “No, why don’t you just leave us alone!” In Obama’s world, already, the new babies will be weighted down with a huge load of debt in their diapers, thanks to Obama’s economy, and then to add another weight of a Health Savings Account mandate and forced electronic medical records to that poor little baby is unconscionable and would make any baby cry all the more with this double slap on the fanny, when they are born into this kind of weight upon their shoulders and in their diapers before they can even say, “Da-da”!

    • http://twitter.com/Kimmachironi Kim Machir

I don’t understand why you think having an HSA “enslaves” anyone “into a health choice they may not want.” The electronic medical records — I’m not a big fan of that idea. But HSAs allow you to take pre-tax earnings and set them aside for your medical expenses. They bear interest, and you don’t lose your contributions at the end of the year. They don’t control which doctors you see, or which procedures or medicines you use. When you have a medical expense, you pay it from that account. Period. With our HSA, we are free to stop contributions to it or increase them at any time (up to an annual limit set by the IRS — but if you are objecting to having one, I wouldn’t think the limit is your complaint.)
The only other restriction on the account is that it has to be used for medical expenses. I suppose that is the limit to freedom you dislike?

      • Judy

I already know what HSA’s are. Fine you pick one but don’t expect everyone else to have to just because you like them. My entire point is, go ahead and make YOUR decision to do that, but government should not be deciding it for anyone, nor should doctors be in charge of it. We need govt and other “well-meaning, “helpful” over-controlling individuals to weed their own garden and leave the rest of us alone, including every single baby. Let the parents decide it for their own child and go for it they wish but to make a wide statement covering all babies is govt control and getting involved where govt does not belong.

        • Considerthis

That would been fine if that baby could decide they don’t want healthcare when they are older. If they do to bad Mom and Dad said no and have not been paying in for it. I do agree we shouldn’t be told what to do I really agree but what happens later when a sickness occurs. I wouldn’t expect the government to save me, but at least 47% would ( and percentage is getting bigger and bigger)

      • Considerthis

Plus your money is not put into a pot the government can decide to use for something or someone else. The way social security was done.

    • John Free

He did NOT say that. He said that-‘at a later time they could withdraw and choose their own plan’. If Americans were fiscally responsible, this measure would not be necessary. In my own case- I paid into ‘the system’ for 35+ years, but my disability STILL came as a surprise, and- had the money not been vested for me, I’d be DEAD. You may want to go re-hear that part again, shrug- or you may not.

      • Judy

I played it before I posted this and also heard him say it on the TV last night as well as played it a day ago. The point is, for a doctor or any govt offiaicl to decide what they think every single citizen from the time they are a baby should do, is over-control by govt, or by doctors.

      • Judy

I know what he said and watched it on TV as well as several videos of him speaking about it. The point is government nor doctors need to be directing this issue. Let people handle it themselves without giving every baby the enlistment in electronic medical records and the program, albeit, an eventual decision down the road, or not. Govt and doctors seem to have this fetish for having to get inot people’s lives and “Fix” this issue, when in actual fact, We the people have stated, loud and clear–Just leave us alone. Govt has more important things it should be doing with our taxpayer dollars. It needs to plain keep its hands off and take care of the job market and economy and mostly defending our country from terrorists.

        • Considerthis

There are already electronic medical records, with a card you get to take that information with you if you change Drs.

  • Conrad2010

I thought it was just the left that emoted this way. How much do we need to know about somebody before we start acting like fainting Elvis fans and begging somebody to run for president? One good or even one great speech?
Remember how everybody (I wasn’t one of them) swooned all over Rubio and Christie in the beginning?
I’m not saying this guy wouldn’t be a good pick for president but shouldn’t I collect just bit more data before making that decision?
I’m in the speech cheering crowd too, however I’m still letting my brain keep my emotions in check. I mean really? There are people who have never seen this guy (or even heard of him) and are already saying they would vote for him (now!).

    • Catchance

Of course you’re correct, but I think most of these folks (and I) are just so sick and tired of our guys caving to the left. That’s why Christie was so well-liked in the beginning… he didn’t pull his punches with the teachers’ union or the msm, and he had his facts ready. That’s also why everyone liked Newt… he didn’t let the msm run the narrative. Reagan was able to do that, as well as actually follow conservative values. I surely miss him.

    • ember

Go to youtube and search him. You’ll find interviews and speeches he’s given. Then read his books. He’s been the same man for all his career. Then watch the movie about his life (Cuba Gooding played him). Look at what he’s overcome. He knew what his weaknesses were and worked to overcome them. He’s been around for quite a while. Its just that folks have been blinded by the stars of politics and ignored the stable, soft-spoken guys that have always been standing there.

    • Considerthis

I felt the same way but looked him up. He is really impressive. He has a great resume. I’d prefer him to go straight to Washington, and not have the politics ruin him. Although there’s plenty of politics to deal with in his present job.

  • Randy C. Lindsey

I expect to hear loud cries of “Uncle Tom” very shortly. Dr. Carson is a genius…a man who says what he really believes. That is so refreshing for a change. Yes, I would consider voting for him in any public office, but I would need to know his views on the Constitution and specifically the 2nd amendment.

  • kbash33

In substance & theme, Carson’s speech not much different from Obama’s at ’04 Dem convention. How’d that work out?

    • kssturgis62

you cannot compare Carson’s speech to Obama’s 04 speech. Obama’s 04 speech was divisive and with the Greek Columns set himself up as a god before the world. there are two different men in this picture, one who feels entitled and hates this country for what it stands for, and the other who worked hard, achieved greatness on his own, and truly loves this country. Go into detox, get off the kool aid, and soon you will see there is sunshine at the end of that tunnel.

    • Thevelvetkitten

No..this man has actually walked the walk and over came..Instead of finding victims..he sees success for them. He doesn’t see problems and look for blame..he seeks solutions. He doesn’t seek division,he seeks unity. He says we should realize that it takes both wings for an eagle to fly . He says PC is killing our nation..we need to have a conversation….and that is what is happening…Whatever his role is to be..he is a healer.. He is a problem solver..if he wasn’t he wouldn’t have saved all the lives he has….problems that were so involved most of us could not even begin to comprehend…His speech of 30 mins did more for this countries moral and hope than O has done in 4 years…They are like night and day.

    • 364NKL

Your head is up your a$$ if you think these 2 men have ANYTHING in common. Obama lived a privileged life, hates America, and received everything based on affirmative action. Carson grew up in poverty, EARNED everything on his own, and loves America. NO COMPARISON! Also, Carson speaks from the heart, Obama speaks from his teleprompter.

  • kbash33

I like Carson a lot. First saw him years ago featured on a TV documentary series about young med students and interns breaking in at Hopkins. Very impressive back story. Loved the NPB speech. But I need to see a lot more before I start swooning like an Obamabot.

Carson lives in Baltimore. If he’s a Republican with White House ambitions, he needs to cut his political teeth in the People’s Republic of Maryland. If he can make it there as a conservative GOPer, I will definitely start paying attention.

Because Hollywood types that support conservative values are few and far between?

    • right_wing2

The words & thoughts of leftist actors like Charlie Sheen or Barbara Streisand are given huge importance because they’re ‘important’ and ‘famous’. So an actor who doesn’t spout nonsense like those on the left do should have the same weight & attention given to what they say.

  • Joanne Christie

Dr. Carson very professionally, strategically & indirectly pointed the finger at BO even though he would probably deny it which I admire. He profoundly pointed out everything that BO is doing wrong & what the people need to do to get control of their own lives. I admire this man & feel he is brilliant & aware he has a calling to Serve “We The People” in 2016. We desperately need him to Lead this Country out of chaos.

I agree- he made his points, but did so with class.

I “saw” him standing there with his finger pointed toward BO. Or was that The Lord Who was standing with Dr. Carlson?

  • R0nin

This is the first time I’ve seen Dr. Carson speak. Based upon that, it’s way premature to call for him to lead us. I liked much of what I heard, but I couldn’t glean enough from his speech to tell if his political beliefs would help us or not.

Let’s not make the mistake that so many did in electing Obama the first time– let’s not rush to throw our support behind someone who we know almost nothing about.

I would welcome the chance to hear more from him– I just don’t think it’s wise to rush to judgement based upon the content of this one speech.

    • http://baldilocks-talking.blogspot.com/ Juliette Akinyi Ochieng

Am I the only one on Twitchy who knows that Dr. Carson was the head of the neurosurgical team which first successfully separated conjoined twins (in the 90s IIRC)? And that he has long been a conservative?

If you really want to know how to bring restore America’s greatness, I suggest you first listen to Jonathan Cahn’s message at the recent Inaugural Prayer Breakfast (if you already haven’t), read his book “The Harbinger.” then — MOST IMPORTANT PART — do it. His message will blow your mind. His inaugural prayer address alone caused a near-riot response of prayer from the attendees you will not believe until you watch it yourself.
I have not read his book, but after hearing his message, I intend to get my hands on a copy. If you have not heard it, it is legally posted on YouTube.
No man on Earth can save America. We are past that now. The ONLY one who can is God, whom the country was founded on. Turning back to God is our last hope.
