Floyd Corkins today pleaded guilty to charges of interstate transportation of a firearm, assault with intent to kill and committing an act of terrorism in connection with the shooting at the Family Research Council headquarters in Washington, D.C., last August. That shooting injured Leo Johnson, who wrestled Corkins to the ground, preventing what could have been a massacre.
CBS News reports that Corkins told FBI agents he wanted to “kill as many as possible” to “make a statement against the people who work in that building … and with their stance against gay rights and Chick-fil-A.” As Twitchy reported, Corkins was carrying 15 Chick-fil-A sandwiches in a bag when he was subdued; at a hearing he admitted he intended to smear the sandwiches in the faces of his victims.
According to the Post, Corkins had addresses of "four socially conservative organizations" on him at time of shooting.—

Whoa. The FRC shooter picked his target directly from a @SPLcenter "hate map." bit.ly/YDZfdZ via @robertbluey—

In a statement following the shooting, Family Research Council’s Tony Perkins alleged that the Southern Poverty Law Center had given Corkins a license to shoot by listing the FRC as a hate group on its website. The SPLC at the time called the claim “outrageous,” but Corkins acknowledged in a hearing that he had indeed visited the SPLC’s website, which identified the FRC to him as “an anti-gay organization.”
Here's my opener for an actual conversation on the Corkins case: Contrary to the SPLC, violent nuts are not a right-wing problem.—

Congratulations to @splcenter, in their "fight against hate" they inspired a terrorist and got a guy shot. #HateGroup—

Remember when domestic terrorism was Sarah Palin's fault for having a map? bit.ly/YDZfdZ—

Sarah Palin's map did not inspire Jared Lochner, but Southern Poverty Law Center's map did inspire Floyd Corkins—

Should we classify SPLC as a hate group now? pulse.me/s/ierSw—

The FRC shooter used the SLPC website to identify FOUR targets for his rampage. @Markos unavailable for comment. #tcot #p2—

No evidence of any conservative "extremism" causing a mass shooting, but there is the FRC shooting inspired by Left wing websites. #tcot—

@RBPundit And they were all over Palin's map w/targets but say nothing of Obama's drone kill list—

Palin is responsible for Loughner, just because. But the SPLC is NOT responsible for the FRC shooter, just because.—

So… the SPLC had a map *TOO*? Gee, this situation is nothing at all like the claim that Sarah Palin inspired Jared Loughner.—

I assume that the hard-hitting @MSNBC outrage journalists will be all over this FRC shooter/SPLC connection. Also, #unicornfarts.—

Any comment from the Southern Poverty Law Center? Not yet.
Sorry we've been quiet. We're preparing for a big press conference in Florida tomorrow. Stay tuned.—
