Joel Mathis: Why are conservatives defending ‘rapey’ Audi Super Bowl ad (that Touré loved)?

We heard enough nonsense about conservatives supposedly “defending” rape during last year’s campaign season to last several lifetimes. So now what’s this about conservatives defending a “rapey” TV spot? The Philly Post’s Joel Mathis saw the following ad from Audi and wondered, “Why are conservatives defending Audi’s rapey Super Bowl ad?” Maybe because they didn’t consider it to be “rapey” in the first place?

It turns out that “conservatives” is shorthand for, essentially, Transom editor Ben Domenech, who retweeted this observation.

So, if the ad is so offensive, why wouldn’t the question be, “Why did Audi produce such a rapey ad?” What do conservatives have to do with it?

You prominent conservatives and your framing. It turns out the expectation of a critique by liberals was dead on.

Well, according to Lil Miss Rightie up there, maybe you’re not quite the dude you think you are. Once word of its supposed “rapiness” got around, it seems not everyone felt the ad was such a threat.

You dudes just don’t get it. At least women will have the sense to thank Mathis for his red-flagging of this spot promoting violence against women, right?

Men, women … even closet conservative Touré liked the ad.

Why, Touré, why do you condone rape?

  • RadicalRebelWhoMeToo

rapey rapey rapey rapey rapey rapey rapey rapey

    • $36544368

Who’s the first idiot rapper who’ll make a ‘song’ out of that one? LOL!

      • RadicalRebelWhoMeToo

        I know, right? Aahahaha XD

      • NRPax

And now that you’ve said it, someone is writing it.

  • ShadowWing Tronix

I wouldn’t call it rape because he stole a kiss. Sexual assault (a bit extreme but I think that’s the closest charge), unwanted advance, possibly. Rape would be a lot less innocent and a whole lot more violent. Still got what he deserved but he’s hardly a rapist.

    • Hiraghm

Yes, he got what he deserved; A KISS FROM THE PROM QUEEN.
“Faint heart never won fair maid”.

      • NRPax

“Losers always whine about their best. Winners go home and f*** the prom queen.”

        • Matthew Morris

          “Carla *was* the prom queen.”

          • NRPax

I’m surprised that I was the first to post that quote.

      • ShadowWing Tronix

I meant getting socked by her boyfriend, actually. 😀

  • BackwardsBoy

Yeah, but was it rape-rape? I await Whoopi Goldberg’s astute intellectual insight on the matter.

    • Brett McMicken

if it had been roman or woody, that would have made it okay….because, it’s, you know, artsy

  • Sean Connolly

This one was fine, it was the godaddy one that made me turn away.

    • TheOriginalDonald

Huh? In real life that kid would be riding an ambuiance NOT an Audi.

  • Maxx

A male stealing a kiss. Thanks to yet another liberal nitwit, we now know this kind of behavior is “rapey” and I’ll have to rethink a host of awesome “stolen kisses” in cinema over the past, oh I dunno…..75 years. Insert face palm gif ______ here.

    • Brett McMicken

heaven help them out on the battlefield!

      • nickshaw

        Who? Emasculated liberal beta males?

      • McCarty Griffin

Why? Because the males can’t stop themselves from unwanted touching of their fellow soldiers? What’s that about?

        • sardiverdave

No, because women are apparently incapable of defending themselves against a kissy nerd.

  • BlueGood

    “Frankly Charlotte, I don’t give a damn…”You should be kissed & often”…..

    It’s Clark’s FAULT!

  • TugboatPhil

Is it just me, or is Joel Mathis the kind of guy that would whine about the seat not being put back down?

    • GoSellCrazySomeplaceElse

You know he would. I also agree with LMR on the neutered male analogy.

    • V the K

      Definitely a sitzpinkler.

    • Tom Bannigan

If we are required to put the seat down, then they should be required to put the seat back up.

  • Brett McMicken

however, if the commercial had depicted a woman kicking a guy in the groin for not calling the day after a date, they would have no problem with it.

  • Wag_a_Muffin (D)

Toure is not condoning rape. He’s condoning “rapey..”

  • V the K

Who says leftist men are nothing but socially castrated, estrogen-pumping, beta-males? Oh, wait, I say that.

  • Hiraghm

So, basically, the reaction is an attack on traditional heterosexuality and normal human mating activity. Yet another attempt to push the homosexual agenda.

  • David Gillies

To call this Mathis character a beta male is generous. I’d say he belongs somewhere further along the Greek alphabet. Kappa say, or rho.

    • Hiraghm

I think you’re trying to change the wrong word; “male” is the word I question.

    • TomJB

I think they’d have to use an alphabet with more than 24 characters to really reach his status.

  • Hiraghm

She was bigger than him, and a girl. He didn’t hold her down. She could have backed off and kicked him the nuts followed by a flying backflip getting his neck in a scissors and snapping it in two. After all, she’s a girl; she gets to have it both ways.

In point of fact, watching the commercial, she didn’t back away after the initial surprise; she began kissing back. Hence the black eye from alpha male.

    • Jim Denney

scissors???? Good Lord man, that’s genius! Somebody at DHS should suggest using those against killers! They may even spend a couple of hundred grand making a movie to educate the public!

  • Garth Haycock

Mr. Mathis, why are the heads and rectums of progressives conjoined?

    • $36544368

They’re made that way…makes thinking a lot easier… the brain is always warm 😉 Unfortunately, the thought process has to go through a lot of s#it, making most comments ‘full of it’.

  • McCarty Griffin

Sorry, but that was sexual assault. I think of my own teen-age daughter and whether I want some random boy forcing an unsolicited kiss on her because he’s feeling cocky. No, I do not. Too bad the girl isn’t the one who gave him the black eye.

    • OHNESA

I bet you never had to worry about this happening to you Ms. McCarty-Griffin

    • $36544368

Oh Lord…you’re just like the guy who thought the Paul Harvey/Dodge commercial was awful, and that Dodge should be sued for ramming religion and God down everyone’s throats. Reel it in a bit, k?

    • RogueRose

Neither would I. But my daughter wouldn’t need her date to defend her honor, if it was unwelcome he’d be on the floor holding his delicates… And I wouldn’t go around saying my daughter had been rapey’d at the dance.

  • Frank Drebin

I bet Joel was all aquiver when Katy Perry did the same…

  • Wag_a_muffin

The most offensive super bowl ad was the one where that woman tried to kill the M n M by putting him in an oven. I mean, WOW! What kind of a twisted mind would think murdering a chocolate candy computer generated disc is FUNNY?????? (Chocolate discs have feelings too.)

    • TugboatPhil

Soon there will be People for the Ethical Treatment of Animations. “Simulated Chocolate is MURDER!!”

  • DaveO

If the roles were reversed and a slightly awkward female had gone up to what she thought was the cutest guy, and planted a big passionate kiss on him, the liberals would say she was empowered. Rapey my arse.

  • John Kerry’s Forehead

Sorry honey, I can’t kiss you anymore. Don’t wanna be accused of rape .

  • Gary Rudick

This is the 21st Century: All heterosexuality is rape and all homosexuality is consensual even with children. The sending of Valentines with that evil swastika-like heart symbol is to be ended. You may now resume your Utopian lives…

  • Carnival Barker

I called this reaction the minute I saw the commercial. I knew lefty douchewaffles would be all up on Audi. Rapey is a disrespectful term to those who have been raped. But it’s ok to say something completely idiotic and offensive if you’re a liberal.

    • itekisan

      +1 for douchewaffles – I’m stealing that.

  • Dan Thorpe

This much ado about nothing. There was nothing “rapey” about this commercial. I actually liked this commercial, a nerdy guy gets some confidence because he gets to use his dads car which cause him to take a chance with prom queen. By all all intents in purposes the girl actually liked it because she kissed him back.

  • Jim Denney

Lord, they can’t keep the lights on during the Super Bowl and we’re arguing about this crap? And who decided it’s OK to make up our own words? We are so rapeyed ….

  • aegean1

When did a unexpected kiss become rape, exactly?

    • Noah Lee

so, does that mean Clinton did actually rape Kathleen Willey and Juanita Broaddrick?

  • Grumpycarguy

Just had a thought- what about Angry Dude? Doesn’t he suffer any consequences for his assault, like a 3-day suspension or something? He must be a perfect specimen of High School Hero, a stain on his permanent record will to follow him all the days of his life, dooming him to the city college of his choice, and the subsequent career as a low-level accountant at some back-water, no-name insurance company. Instead of a new Audi, he’ll have his choice of rental company castoffs. All because he was the brute in this. He wasn’t the rapey one, but he sure as hell was the brute.

    What about that, Joel? Huh?

    /yah- that’s a silly rant for a silly premise

You may as well accuse me of being rapey with my eyes- I rather liked the mom.

    • alicepoli1land

Not even angry dude was safe from liberal outrage… Punching the nerd and “protecting his girlfriend’s” honor pushes the narrative that women are property to be fought over by men. Yes , libs actually come up with this ridiculousness . So guys, if your girlfriend or wife gets harassed or anything…don’t jump in to protect her ! That would be totally disrespectful and sexist and mysoginist and stuff!

      • therantinggeek

So call me disrespectful, etc, if I step in to defend my wife from being harassed or trying to protect her honor. Excuse me if I start throwing punches or use whatever means necessary to do so.

I guess I should also be called a “prude” for wanting to protect my son’s innocence, or at the very least, “smothering” because I choose to take a more proactive role in his life. *eyeroll* /sarc

        • Raye09

Actually many young men don’t give a $hit if their girlfriend is harassed, humiliated and treated like garbage, standing up for her is “assuming she is weak and is inherently sexist” to most of these wimps. Reading these comments gives me hope. In highschool(around 9th/10th grade) I was a real little $hit(just awful), I cursed out a guys girlfriend while he just sat back and let her be publicly humiliated. I continued to treat people like this until someone finally stood up and said “don’t f*cking speak to my girlfriend like that”. I was 15 when this happened, at 22 I can go out to a bar and see women get treated like dirt by other men and women while their boyfriend/fiance sits back and watches.

  • HealthyAmerican

Going by the Prom Queen’s reception of the kiss… there was nothing “rapey” about it. Maybe Mathis felt the kid raped the Principal’s parking spot (no parking means no parking) or maybe Mathis is just pissy because nothing like this ever
    happened to him…because it’s a pre-scripted COMMERCIAL! …and Mathis is a manifest moron.

  • alicepoli1land

I have a confession : When I was 2 1/2 I stole a kiss from my nursery school classmate , Jakey. When it was time to go home, his mom and my mom were chatting.I ran up to him , grabbed his face ,and planted a big kiss on his lips… According to Mathis I’m a rapey-ist ..or is it ok bc I’m a girl?

  • George Washington Mclintock

So, what did women think? That’s what I’m interested in. Notice I said women, and not feminist harpies.

  • alicepoli1land

What really gets me though are women that echo this crap .Because after screaming about a man stealing a kiss from a girl in a commercial , they will get together for drinks with their girlfriends one night and complain that “there are no real men out there!” Or express their desire for men that are “more masculine”. They never realize the neo feminism has neutered most of today’s men. I would not be schocked if soon every guy will need to have the female sign a consent form before they kiss!

  • NRPax

    Whiny: The new “empowered.”

  • TheOriginalDonald

I thought the GoDaddy ad was more of a John Hughes movie than the Audi ad.

  • $1014973

Beta males only overpopulate when society has gone too soft for too long. This is exactly what happened in Europe after WWII. All the social preening and lecturing because their right to be pompous idiots was being protected by the United States. It went on for so long that they forgot about the menace that was outside the fence that was provided by the US.

  • NRPax

He took a chance, it paid off and he only got a black eye as a consequence. I file that as a win. -:-)

    • Matthew Morris

Given classmates that I still talk with (I’m in my 40’s) I’ve had this more than once.
“If I had the confidence then I have now, I’d have asked you out.”
“If you’d asked, I’d said yes.”
      More power to the comercial.

      • NRPax

Hm. If I ever get a chance to talk to classmates (I’m in my 40s also), I may have to research that.

  • Kevin Krom

Actually, I didn’t like the commercial. Precisely because it had the whole John Hughes vibe, I suppose.

  • AMSilver

How about instead of focusing on conservatives opinions about an ad that can be spun as questionable behavior toward women, we have Mr. Mathis address actual real world abuse of women by Menendez (democrat) who used under-age prostitutes? Or does Mathis think that being a prostitute is something that elevates women?

  • $30423294

Seven infamous words from an infamous DEMOCRAT ex-president:

“You’d better put some ice on that.”

  • Fly Face

In the immortal words of that left-wing clown Whoppi Goldberg…”It’s not rape, rape.”

  • Ten31

What the heck is “rapey.” Does it mean stealing a kiss is psuedo-rape? Does that make Joel Mathis “maney.” A psuedo-man? For the record, both my wife and my mother liked the Audi commercial.

  • J.N. Ashby

I don’t see the problem with the ad. It wasn’t really “rape-y” at all.

  • ashegroup

As a woman who has experienced REAL rape, I can testify that this ad AIN’T IT.
