No correction for deceptive editing of the video. No apology for wrongly stating that Neil Heslin was heckled. No retraction.
The updated article still falsely asserts that Heslin was heckled. Here is the headline: “Emotional father of Sandy Hook victim heckled at gun hearing.”
Here is the caption in the updated video: “Mocked and Loaded: Sandy Hook Victim’s father heckled by gun rights’ advocates.”
Here’s the paragraph that describes the so-called “hecklers”:
Heslin asked why anyone needs assault weapons and high capacity magazines. Gun rights activists replied, “Our rights will not be infringed!” and “Second Amendment!” Local news sources reported that there were nearly a dozen hecklers, who were quickly silenced.
And here’s the editor’s note at the bottom of the article:
Editor’s note: This story has been amended from the original version to clarify the context of the remarks; the original video has been replaced with a fuller version.
A source tells the Washington Post that MSNBC is “reviewing” the video. The network has yet to issue a correction or an apology.
