Libs ridicule ‘Southwestern Commission’ on border security

Yesterday’s bipartisan announcement of a immigration reform plan by the Gang of 8 was supposed to be a model of the new, “functioning” Congress. Four Democrats and four Republicans presented a plan that all could support … with certain conditions.

Sen. Marco Rubio made the media rounds last night and today (including a call to Rush Limbaugh) to clarify that some form of measurable border enforcement was necessary in order for the plan to go forward. If the Democrat senators could live with it, it must be reasonable, right?

Not quite. Liberals are already targeting the so-called “Southwestern Commission,” a group composed of “governors, attorneys general, and community leaders living along the Southwest border to monitor the progress of securing our border.” That sounds fair, seeing as those groups have first-hand experience with enforcement of the U.S./Mexico border. Libs aren’t happy with the proposed makeup of the group, though. Take Talking Points Memo editor Josh Marshall, for instance.

Ah, there we go. Govs. Perry and Brewer are just “really angry.” Maybe they’d be in better spirits if they could get some help from the federal government to secure their borders.

“Daily Show” co-creator Lizz Winstead digs into the “Big Book of Campaign Humour 2012” to take a swipe as well.

Does anyone else want to lend their support to this bipartisan plan?

Liberals have been trying to find some confirmation that the commission will act in a strictly advisory fashion. Who will have power over border enforcement, then? Talking Points Memo managed to track down Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Il.), who passed the ball to the Department of Homeland Security.

Let me — let me clarify this. What we — we haven’t written the section, but what we envision is — is to create metrics, measurements, in terms of progress on border security that could be certified or at least attested to by local officials. But the ultimate decision will be by the Department of Homeland Security. So it isn’t going to be something as generic as safe and secure borders. We’d never agree on that. But metrics, in terms of resources on the border and the impact it has on illegal immigration.

What was that about not having faith in a Southwestern Commission? Looks like we can reach some bipartisan agreement on that, too.

“Yeah, ’cause, we here in Manhattan and D.C. know a lot more about the border than those rubes in Arizona and Texas. And we’re smarter, and stuff.”

    • EEKman

Well this is Rick Perry and Jan Brewer we are talking about. Im sure you are smarter.

    • Jim Russell

Border control FIRST, new Immigration law SECOND. We’ve been bitten by this dog twice already.

We are here today with 11 Million+ illegal and needy migrants because existing immigration laws were NOT ENFORCED. Show us Mr. President you can enforce the laws on the books, instead of bypassing them with Executive Orders to Home Land Security, BEFORE you get those new welfare dependent Democratic voters legalized.

The American people are nuts to let DC encourage another 11 Million migrants to get to our bankrupted welfare State, by legalizing those illegally here already. Is it practical or politically possible to deport the 11 Million here already? No. But it is practical and possible not to offer path to citizenship until our politicians can show us it can and will enforce our existing laws and borders FIRST!.

Did it ever occur to any of these misinformed IDIOTS that the Southwest is ground zero? Better NY City or maybe Montpelier, Maine to help draft immigration reform…yeah, that’ll work. These people make my head want to explode, but I will NOT allow it just to p*ss them off!

Drug cartels and human traficking has been reported as far north as Albuquerque.

How about the liberal states take all the illegals since they feel it is fine to sneak into a country. Actions speak louder than words. Out in the Hamptons the rich liberals are already complaining about the influx of illegals. In fact end all trespassing laws in liberal areas so people can go sneak on their property too.

  • Raye09

Illegal immigration has bought a slew of problems to the southwest, in addition to drug cartels we now have sex trafficking. Many of the children are US citizens. What about the rights of these children, many of them young girls? Again where are the Sandra Flukes, Jessica Valentis and all of the other liberal “human rights” bunch? Silence from the cowards and hypocrites in favor of forcing taxpayers to fund birth control pills and abortions for adult women.

Border security would reduce all of this, yet any mention of cracking down on illegal immigrants means you must be racist. Nevermind that the southwest is experiencing elevated crime rates and poverty. Nevermind that terrorist could use the faulty security to their advantage. Being PC and “progressive” is the top priority, not the lives of citizens.

@Raye09 You got it right. There is so much that libs ignore and so many across the U.S. don’t understand about what goes on down here. If people only knew the reality of the dangers faced by citizens. Yes, there are people seeking refuge from the crime going on in Mexico and other countries south of us, but there are a whole bunch of criminals exploiting our porous borders. Also, “Illegal immigration” is a lib term for those who ignore our laws. The correct term is Illegal Aliens.

It’s easy to attack Fluke as a coward and hypocrite when you can’t be bothered to do a simple web search:

Fluke created and led the Program Evaluation Initiative for Sanctuary for Families in New York City, ensuring high quality services to victims of domestic violence and human trafficking. She also served on the Manhattan Borough President’s Taskforce on Domestic Violence and co-founded the New York Statewide Coalition for Fair Access to Family Court, which successfully lobbied for legislation allowing LGBTQ, teen, and other victims of intimate partner violence to access civil orders of protection. During law school, Fluke has represented numerous victims of domestic violence and human trafficking and has engaged in human rights advocacy in Kenya on behalf of child victims of domestic human trafficking.

So, what have you done for the victims of sex trafficking? As much as Sandra Fluke?

      • Todd Hill

So, during law school she represented numerous victims… Did she represent them by herself, or as a part of a group of lawyers? If it’s the latter, did she do anything more than fetch coffee for the lead counsel?

Well said. Come down and take a look at the borders; you will change your mind. Want to know why education scores are lower here? Try educating over 1/3 of the students who do not speak English, who will be back over the border tomorrow, and who might be here again next week. Not to mention the crime. Ranches owned by families for generations are destroyed and uninhabitable due to unsafe conditions. Border security? Big joke.

Put the problem children on a committee to work the issues and they will not be in the media, causing a problem for the POTUS. It’s the same reason why he gave Clinton the Sec of State job. To neuter her.

Meanwhile, he’ll do whatever he wants to.

Citizenship for votes makes you proud to be an American. Libs are an insult to all the legal immigrants and hardworking U.S. citizens when they kiss illegal alien ass. Why are libs such gutless pussies.

The low information voters who operate solely on politician directed emotional triggers are still stuck on stupid when it comes to immigration. You’d think at the very least they would at least question how many MORE taxes will come out of their paychecks based on the last “betrayal” from their King. So easily forgotten…
As for allowing input from border states, it’s a must. We incur the most damage up front. Leftists are just too wrapped up in their pre-programmed “everyone-is-racist” mindset to understand that these people end up in their states too. And they are not all from Mexico. The cartels are making excellent money in instructing the terrorists how to evade our lax borders.

On another note, does anyone else see how Colorado legalizing marijuana will spread drug activity farther north? Drug cartels have been reported in albuquerque(northern NM and some 4-5 hours from the border) roughly 10 hours separate the New mexico/mexico border from southern Colorado. Now that marijuana is legal expect to see more drug cartels in southern Colorado soon, tafficking rates will go up within the next 2 years.
