Ashley Judd ‘certainly taking a close look’ at Senate run against Mitch McConnell

Word that actress Ashley Judd is considering a run for office has been making the rounds for quite a while, with many assuming a campaign would take the form of a run against Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.). Louisville Courier-Journal reporter James Robert Carroll wasn’t able to pry an announcement from Judd at an event in D.C. tonight, but he came close.

“The people of Kentucky need a fighter”? Who says something like that if they’re not running for office?

Let’s get to the meat of why Ashley is being pushed to run against McConnell. His name is John Yarmuth. He’s the congressman for the blue district of Ky-3 (Louisville a blue city). He’s been in congress for 6 years now and still wants to be a power player in Ky and Washington politics. Problem is that John is a Louisville liberal.

Two things about Kentuckians. 1, they liberals have a thin veneer of conservatives or centrist covering their liberal leanings. John has none. He likes to call himself Louisville’s favorite liberal. John is the only liberal congressman in the Kentucky delegation. Which leads to 2, they hate people from Louisville.

No Louisville liberal has won a statewide office. So John skates around that by putting forth Ashley Judd, who is a liberal (or even more so than Yarmuth) but enjoys statewide support for her support of the Kentucky Wildcats Basketball program (and being a graduate of UK herself). He’s trying to gloom off of her star power and it’s not going to work.

She a good actress, but has limited real world experience (just like someone else in Washington DC). Once people find out she’s as radical as they come, star power won’t do it.

That said, I hope Mitch does the right thing and retire. We’ve got a few good young Tea Party Conservatives in Kentucky that would like to join Rand Paul.

Yeah can’t afford to have a fight with establishment vs. conservatives. It’s time to go Mitch. Don’t end up like Lugar. We lost a seat in Indiana because of the squabbling.

I like that tweet by @CAAmyO it really does seem as though Judd has made the same movie with Freeman 100 times.

  • GaryTheBrave

I can just imagine one of her ads. She says, “Kentucky is so sweet they even named a jelly after it.”

      …. it took a minute …. KY …. BWAAHAAhaahaahaaaaa

Some folks (or many) may think this would be an easy victory for McConnell. I caution that this very well may not, as evidenced by Al Franken’s senatorial victory in Minnesota a few years back.

I remember when he announced he was considering a run at the senate and the howls of laughter that soon followed.

He’s still having the last laugh.

Nobody running for office nowadays needs to have actual experience or worry about being branded “too liberal.” Instead they need just enough star power and a get-out-the-vote machine to get elected.

Ms. Judd has one of these already,
and if she were to run she may have the second provided for her courtesy of the usual suspects.

I hope McConnell et al are watching this closely and have already started making plans.

You MAY have a point. If it weren’t for the DFL SOS in MN Coleman probably would have won. Pawlenty better rectify his mistake in not clamping down on the shenanigans and run against Sen. Stuart Smalley, or he might as well BE retired from politics.

Go for it girl. Then we can REALLY dig into your past.

A Socialist winning Kentucky? I’ll believe that when Obama lowers taxes.

  • Peyton

Please Kentucky, use your brain and don’t elect a Hollywood liberal.

  • Samh09

Once again, I have to say “Here comes the Judd! Here comes the Judd! Here comes the Judd!” No, this is not a pro Ashley Judd chant. I am being a smarty pants.

No more extreemist left-wing Hollywood daffodils in any kind of elected office! If I lived in Kentucky, I’ld run against her and Mitch on the AP3 platform and work for the interests of all Kentuckians, not just to make a name for myself either!

  • Alexander Ivan

Once the photos of her flashing the paparazzi surface, the opposition’s ads will make the campaign remarkably entertaining. “Judd goes commando. Can’t keep a secret!” “Hey, sailor!”

She is the biggest hypocrite of any liberal celebrity who bashes Republicans. As a little girl she lived near poverty; a couple of years later she was a rich kid. And who made the Judd family wealthy by buying her mom and older sister’s records and attending their concerts? Mostly white people from the South and rural America, i.e., mostly GOP voters.

How often do you get a chance to vote for someone who’s been nude in public BEFORE they were elected?

  • Booker

Oh, please, Lord. This is my home state. We don’t need to bring any more shame to this country.

  • JackBee

KY doesn’t need a left-wing radical, we have plenty of those doing O’s bidding in Washington.
