#NoBudgetNoPay hashtag takes off among Republican lawmakers

It has been nearly four years since the US Senate passed a budget. In an attempt to increase accountability, numerous Republican House members took to Twitter today to endorse #NoBudgetNoPay legislation:

The idea, which has been promoted by No Labels, has support in the US Senate, too:

Not only #NoBudgetNoPay, every year they run a deficit, their pay should be docked by the same percentage. #Deficit=ReducedPay !

I wholeheartedly agree with this, in principle.

The problem, however, is that this just encourages even more corruption from people who have made a career out of being corrupt. Rest assured, they’ll find ways to supplement that income.

Even if that means taking money from Big Industry to, oh, I don’t know, throw a bunch of pork into a disaster relief bill. They will do that.

you could be right, there would be a new “fee” on our utility/phone bills, like the Universal Service Fee, which is paying for free phones for the slackers.

I would even go further, tax payers should withhold income tax remittance.

Who else gets paid for NOT doing the job that’s required of them? NO ONE!

    • Fire and Adjust!

Technically speaking……….the President, the Secretary of the Treasury, the Secretary of Homeland Security, and the U.S. Attorney General…..to name a few….since they are not considered members of congress……….. oh, and union members (some, not all)

    • lainer51

      well,maybe, TV meteorologists.

  • Fire and Adjust!

Now, with their paychecks threatened, watch as members of congress start throwing their principles under the bus so they can pass a budget just to get paid………… but not until after the democrats pout and scream of republican grandstanding

  • Love of Country

Four years in and Dinglebarry is still yet to try and fix the economy …. in the worst economy in 35 years ….. after making more promises to fix the economy (ASAP) than anyone had ever heard before in their lifetimes. Still waiting!

So, do Democrats want to fix the economy? No, they only want race, class, gender, generational and religious wars in order to destroy the country from the bottom up, top down and inside out (the Van Jones vision) but it takes some time to collapse great nations (unless you control the schools and the media).

But hey, if you’re lazy, dishonest and hate Christmas and 4th of July then maybe you should just leave instead of trying to help the fascist and racist DNC turn America into Cuba all the time … man-up just once in your life and leave.

Well, Con lawmakers are growing a backbone, or trying to. We should encourage them, despite how we feel about their merits of their approach.

Love It. Include the White House.

  • Mark Stephens

What a concept! Do your job or you don’t get paid. There’s a word that’s used outside The Beltway for that… No, don’t help me… I know it…

    Oh, yeah. It’s called “reality.”

  • SonsOfMontesQ

wahwahwah… all smoke and mirrors. don’t be fooled. the GOP leadership is growing no backbone here. ask yourself, why now do they all of a sudden choose to take a stand? or at least look like it. why didn’t they take a stand 2 years ago…? this is nothing more than keeping up appearances for their conservative constituencies. they’ll cave in the end like they always do

  • NachoCheese (D)

At least the Republicans finally decided to mention the lack of a budget. Now if only they could have thought of bringing that up during the election.

  • TomJB

How about some real backbone Cantor? Author a proposition for an amendment that if a budget isn’t passed, or if one passed has greater than a 5% deficit, all 535 members of Congress are term-limited to their current term and never allowed to seek federal office in the future

  • nc

    Did they just wake up?

  • lainer51

the first and only smart idea to come out of those House of Horrors since Lincoln was in office.
