Yglesias: GOP skeptical of Lew because ‘he knows too much’ about budget

Republicans and conservatives are finding a lot to be concerned about when it comes to Treasury Secretary nominee Jack “Loopty” Lew. But according to Slate economics hack Matt Yglesias, their biggest beef is over Lew’s extensive knowledge of our budget. No, really:

Um, pardon? Has Yglesias been living under a rock all this time?

You mean this one?

You’d think. After nearly four years of sitting on their hands, it’s more than past time for Senate Democrats to put their money where their big mouths are. Yglesias might want to think about doing the same.

First tweet response hit the nail on the head. Obamao has NEVER had a budget!

Don’t forget to sign the petition to require the Senate to pass a budget: wh.gov/Pn7K

We had a petition last November and people rejected a Republican Senate. If you want to waste your time more effectively, spend it on Twitchy.

Says the man who comes to Twitchy for the sole purpose of Trolling…

Also, you may want to look up the definition of “petition”. I believe “election” is the term you were looking for here.

And please show me where it states that only Senates with a Republican majority need to pass a budget. Last time I looked, party affiliation had nothing to do with budgets. Or are you simply admitting that your party is fiscally reckless and that lefties have zero interest in holding their own party accountable?

The Budget that the Administration has submitted every February. You have heard that the executive and legislative are separate branches of government or is that too complicated or Twitchy twits?

  • HJR (D)

Yeah, like the budget that Obama submitted last year that received ZERO votes in the House and Senate? The point was that the Senate has not passed an actual budget for over 3 years, as they are required to do by law. But we know leftists ignore laws they disagree with.

  • RIChris

More likely Republicans don’t like Jack Lew because he knows too much about something that doesn’t exist. That kind of ‘knowledge’ doesn’t bode well for an already shaky economy.

You know, Matt, if this were true (that Lew knows too much about the budget) maybe he should share that information with the Senate Dems who seem to have a huge problem in producing a budget.

Lew appears to be a certified lefty. He has been working in one part of the bureaucracy or another for most of his career. It seems he did a stint with a high profile eco-law firm for a while. They tout their approach as “progressive”. Interestingly, they have a banner up on their site:

“Among our widely-cited VNF Alerts, Policy Updates, and other
publications, we were commissioned by the Pew Center on Global Climate
Change to produce two seminal white papers on the design of climate-friendly U.S. energy policies and possible U.S. greenhouse gas emissions trading regimes. ”
Make of that what you will…
