Straw mania: Conn. Gov. Malloy says ‘Freedom is not a handgun on the hip of every teacher’

Actually, what Connecticut Gov. Dan Malloy said during his 2013 State of the State address today was, “Let me be clear. Freedom is not a handgun on the hip of every teacher.”

Why won’t anyone let these Democrats be clear? Evidently his message was clear enough to get AFT president Randi Weingarten’s stamp of approval.

But freedom-lovers? Not so much:

What, you don’t remember the cries of “Force them to arm themselves for FREEEEEDOOOOOM!!111”?

More from Malloy’s speech:

Just so long as they’re not protecting themselves.

No one is asking for “every” teacher to have a gun, just a few per school is enough to thwart would be mass murders. Just go look at Utah schools, they are a great example of teachers being armed.

    • TugboatPhil

Or even just making a public statement that person qualified in all respects to carry concealed, will not be denied access to the school. That way you have no one knowing for sure who is armed.

      • Kevin Krom

Which I believe is the policy in Utah. IIRC, the school is not allowed to even ask the teachers if they have concealed-carry permits.

  • TugboatPhil

Hey, Gov. Malloy. This massacre was committed under your tenure. You obviously are NOT an expert on school safety. How about getting off your soapbox and do some research before spouting off again.

    • TundraThunder

      Reaseach is . . . hard. Spouting blather is . . . easy.

    • BristolGOP Backup

In the interest of fairness, we should also prevent politicians and their entourage from carrying any weapons.

when it comes to preventing future acts of violence in our government offices, guns are no the answer. Get rid of politician security guards. Money saved.

Other points from Gov Malloy’s speech:

-Freedom is NOT rocket launchers for principals.
-Freedom is NOT flamethrowers for children.
-Freedom is NOT hand-grenades for lunch ladies.
-Freedom is NOT tanks outside front doors.
-Freedom is NOT drones in hallways.
-Freedom is NOT inter-continental ballistic missiles installed on playgrounds.

…he kicked that straw man’s ASS!

    • TomJB

Are you sure the lunch ladies don’t have hand grenades? I seem to remember some kind of “meat” resembling a Willie-Pete.

      • Slapweasel

One can never be too sure. DHS should read this post and send out a tactical team to investigate.

The chubby broads that weren’t “jolly” looked like they had something up their sleeves besides those “sewn-on elbows”.

      • Kevin Krom

Some of the “mystery meat” could probably double as C4.

In my small, increasingly liberal small town armed officers stopped a boy who stabbed him and attempted to stab others with a sword. Another officer stopped a gunman, taking a bullet in the shoulder who came to school with bombs and weapons. I suppose Malloy would frown upon these actions and would prefer mass carnage instead.

  • JoeMusgo

The governor should set an example and disarm his security detail. The White House should set an example by requesting that all security guards be removed from the Sidwell Friends school that Obama’s and David Gregory’s children attend.

  • J.N. Ashby

You’re right. It’s not freedom. It’s safety. I believe this country has been going down the road of shirking freedom for safety for the last 150 years now.

  • Moue La Moue (D)

Which of your many great Freedoms as an American are you willing to trade for Safety? Just ask the next person that talks about the need for more Gun Control. Because I can say, I’ve yet to hear a coherent answer.

Conn. Gov. Malloy does not believe that self-defense is a basic human right. He cannot bring himself to admit that the only way to keep wolves from slaughtering lambs is an armed sheepdog.

For, to admit that truth, is to admit that evil exists and that not all humans are basically good. This flies on the face of: the ” government can solve all problems through broader controls” mentality of the far left.

It would be an admission that these children died on his watch when he could have budgeted the money for security to make them more safe.

    • TomJB

“Make yourself a sheep and the wolf will eat you.” – Old German proverb

  • Andrew Young

I believe if Gov. Malloy was really earnest in his quest to remove guns from public access, he should give up his armed body guards. Hypocrite!

  • lainer51

and you, Malloy, do not rule the land!!!!

  • George Washington Mclintock

Freedom is the issue? I can think of 26 women and children who lost the chance to excercise and pursue their freedoms forever because they didn’t have protections that afforded them freedom(there is that word again!) from bodily harm. Stfu, and go back to murdering the states economy.

  • ceemack

Let’s ask the Sandy Hook principal, who died while charging unarmed at a rifle-wielding madman. At that moment, might she have wished for the “freedom” to have a weapon?

We can’t, because she died trying vainly to protect the children under her care.

That principal is a heroine. You, “governor”, are a worthless slug.

  • Dave Silva

he’s right for once. Every teacher should have a fully automatic shotgun, and the students should be the ones with ” a handgun on the hip”

  • EqualForce

With 300 million firearms in private hands (one-third of them pistols), the overwhelming majority of gun owners ARE responsible, law-abiding citizens, which is why horrific massacres are not commonplace, but rather terrible outliers that can never be legislated away (e.g. DC, Chicago, and “Gun Free Zones”).

For several examples for the recent use of firearms for defensive purposes not typically reported by the national media please visit: and forward this site to others to whom this information may be useful.

My governor, ladies and gentlemen. Excuse me while I barf.

Does anyone else think ‘ole Dannel looks a bit too much like Stephen Colbert for comfort? The guy just gives me the creeps.

  • Tracy Hubbell-Linden

this is the same guy that met with Eric Holder after Thanksgiving to discuss ‘Project Longevity’. Hmmmmm…..not suspicious, right. *eyeroll*

  • Guest

I am so embarrassed he is the governor of my state. I sure as hell didn’t vote for him or any of his cronies.
