Oil tanker hits Bay Bridge, fire reported; Update: No leaks

Details are sketchy, but Twitter users are starting to buzz about a reported fire on the Bay Bridge. Early local media accounts point to an oil tanker that may have “brushed up” against one of the bridge towers. The Coast Guard is apparently responding to the incident.

Twitchy will monitor and update with any new developments.

Update: This is good news.

Update: It appears that the tanker was empty:

Thank goodness.

Update: Looks like the Bay Bridge is OK, too:

Not sure of the specifics, but most bridge supports have, for lack of the correct term, a “pier” around them to absorb sideswipes. A head on collision would be more than it was designed for. But if it was a scrape down the sides, no leaks from the ship or major damage to the bridge would be expected.

Nothing spilled out because it was full of guns and Mexicans.

30-40 feet of wood and plastic-how many billions should they add on to the Sandy relief bill for the repairs?
