Chicago sees 5th murder of 2013 as Ill. Dems push for statewide gun control laws

We’re only a few days into the new year, but sadly, it looks like Chicago may be on its way to reaching another deadly milestone. After over 500 homicides in 2012, today marked the city’s fifth murder of 2013.

The victim? 57-year-old Michael Kozel, owner of Independent Mufflers. How do Illinois Democrats plan to address the high murder rate? By pushing for a statewide ban on semi-automatic handguns and rifles, as well as a ban on high-capacity magazines. These legislators have apparently learned nothing from history. Chicago is under strict gun control laws that have done nothing to curb the murder rate. How will extending such laws to the rest of the state benefit Illinoisans?

Making it illegal for citizens to defend themselves only encourages the people who have no regard for the law. Allowing law-abiding gun owners to protect themselves and their families may not eliminate murders, but it at least gives them a fighting chance.

More magical thinking from leftist idiots.

pffft, like that’s gonna make a difference.

I wonder what IL is going to do for revenue when legal gun owning taxpayers bolt the state by the tens of thousands? Tax the criminals 50% on profits made from armed robbery and B&E’s??

Oh never mind – they’ll just raise the death tax, since statistics will go through the roof statewide.

I did the math earlier today and Chicago is on a pace for 912 homicides this year. And that’s JUST Chicago–it’s not even the entire state of Illinois.

Shocking and disgusting. And the media yawns.

    • ZoriahShepard

Exactly. Where’s the outrage that the citizens of Chicago are systematically murdering each other into oblivion. How come Prez BO hasn’t had something to say about this obvious tragedy? Is it because no one’s written the TelePrompter yet?

Good god, even the people of Kabul must be laughing about the murder rate in Chicago.

  • Steve_J

Imagine what the body count would be in Chicago if not for the strict gun laws.

    • Frustrated Teacher

Probably much less….if law abiding citizens could defend themselves….

Have it az , concealed carry and you can carry it on your hip

    • bballron43

It would be lower in az we have concealed weapon carry laws . We have a lot less problems.

Gun free Chicago on pace to double last years 500 gun homicides? And now the Chicago machine run state legislature wants to advance that same “gun control” to the entire state. Absolute stupidity.

Here’s the phone number for the Illinois Statehouse. Drop a dime to John Cullerton or Michael Madigan’s office and let them know what you think of their attempt to obviate the Constitution. If you don’t live in Illinois, let them know what you think about future visits or commerce in the state. 217-782-2000

Chicago is on pace for 575 homicides. Good thing it has the most restrictive gun laws in the country, otherwise there might be a million by the end of the year.
