Police chief blames ‘political stupidness’ for detectives’ gun ban from Denny’s

Even the most vocal gun control advocates out there are likely to admit they don’t mind if the police carry firearms. Who could object to that? Well, with gun violence firmly in the headlines, it seems just the sight of a gun can make some people uncomfortable. According to the Post-Dispatch, a diner at a Denny’s in Bellevue, Ill., complained to a manager about guns carried by five detectives who weren’t in uniform but were wearing badges. The manager asked the detectives to take their guns out to their cars, prompting them to walk out.

Police chief William Clay then banned police on duty from eating at the restaurant, and issued a statement calling the incident a “slap in the face” and an example of “political stupidness.” Plenty agreed with that assessment.

The manager claimed there was a sign on the door indicating that only uniformed officers were allowed to carry firearms. Perhaps another sign is in order.

If you can’t take cops eating while carrying a necessary implement for the lawful execution of the duty they are legally charged with….you have been brainwashed and occupy the same place on the food chain as sheep.. The only place likely to get robbed faster than that Denny’s is the house of the man, or woman, who made the complaints. They deserve an extra 5 minutes tacked on to the response time of any call they make to the cops

I remember reading an article several years ago where a uniformed policeman was having his evening meal in a local L.A. restaurant chain. Unfortunately a whiny ass, liberal single mom saw his holstered piece was on his hip and started screaming and raising hell. Only to be told rather loudly to “Shut the Hell up!” by a large number of diners and the restaurant’s manager,

    Ahhhh. Good times. Good times.

Ahhhh, Illinoians… They are a crazy breed. I live next door in Indiana and I hate going over there.
In the cities, Illinois folks are mostly blindly following whatever their village, city or the state tells them. However, there are some folks from rural Illinois that are just as good as Hoosiers. They too love their God, family, constitution, and guns.

    • Emily B

True, true. Unfortunately, I myself am an Illinoian, however, I live in a rural area and we certainly do love God, family, The Constitution, and guns! We’re not all bad!! ;0)

Should IL have to dissolve its government because it is bankrupted, will you please promise to start anew and leave Chicago out of your new state?

I keep thinking of Illinois as a Midwest state, and therefore in the same category as Wisconsin. Then I recall that Chicago is in Illinois, and it all becomes clear.

Several anti-gun bills were voted out of committee tonight. Banning pump shotguns and all Semi-auto firearms as well as registering any detachable magazine are included in the legislation. They head back to full house for 2nd and 3rd reading.

I propose we rename IL Murderers’ Row.

What you should be doing is filling complaints with the local Sherif to have them arrested.

As long as they are robbing Denny’s they’re leaving my favorite places alone.

    Grand slam against the police.

I’d put a sign on the door of my business stating, “All lawful CHL holders and law enforcement are welcome to carry guns in this establishment. Criminals enter at your own risk.” Most businesses apperciate it when police come around…

  • Climbr880

Well, this way the drug deals in the back booth can continue without interruption.

  • sqeptiq

Cops as a rule don’t try to protect innocent people, just themselves. If you want armed protection, you need to buy a gun, yourself.

“The manager claimed there was a sign on the door indicating that only uniformed officers were allowed to carry firearms. Perhaps another sign is in order.”
. . . . . . . I can think of federal agencies that do not wear uniforms, but agents are *required* to carry at all times. FBI comes to mind . . . .
    I can’t boycott denny’s because I don’t ever eat there anyway.

Gee, close to East St. Louis, that sanctuary of fiscal insanity and leftwingwackoism.

Remember, East St Louis lost a court case and had to sign over the city hall building to the plaintiff because they had no money.

Well, this is embarrassing. I’ve actually been to this particular Denny’s.
