US evacuates embassy in Central African Republic as Seleka rebels advance

The United States is temporarily closing its embassy in the Central African Republic as a rebel force known as Seleka inches closer to the capital city of Bangui. Earlier in the day, C.A.R. dictator Francois Bozize asked the U.S. and France for help defending the capital. As some tweeters point out, these developments seem to throw a new light on just how bad things could get in the C.A.R.

The Syria comparison is jarring. If it’s that bad, this could become a big deal.

ABC’s State Department correspondent Dana Hughes has been all over this story on Twitter, so she’s definitely a feed to watch as the situation progresses.

Former governement official Cameron Hudson had some interesting thoughts.

Moorehouse College Central Africa specialist Laura Seay also seems to be a good resource.

Blogger Christopher Carlson also has some good knowledge on the situation and who the players are.

I’d just like to point out that compared to many parts of the world, the United State’s idea of a “mass killing” is a bit out of proportion to them. Hundreds or thousands being killed in other countries is a fact of life for too many. It is the evil intentions of man that is the problem. Guns aren’t the only method used, hacking to bits with machetes is not that uncommon.

So many value human life even less than Americans do. And, no, you don’t need a gun- a machete is an excellent tool. so is fire.

  • PennyRobinsonFanClub

Gee, maybe this one will be done without any Americans murdered at all.

  • Bad things coming

Too bad Hillary didn’t come out of her coma long enough to order evac for Benghazi people. From Head Up A to CYA, right Hillary?

  • Jack Deth

Civilian evacuation plans mean nothing if the airports are over run and are already in unfriendly hands. And if this is a coup or uprising. Airports hold the number three slot. Right after raiding banks and coffers, And taking over television and radio stations.

My guess is that State and Obama will do nothing. Since it’s far more beneficial for democrats to ridicule and hopefully destroy the GOP with the looming domestic “fiscal cliff” fiasco.

Looks like another potential Al-Quaeda haven.
