Shortly before taking off for Hawaii Friday, President Obama held a seven-minute press conference to encourage Congress to drink egg nog, sing carols and “cool off,” and then return this week ready to work on a deal to avert the fiscal cliff. Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley is back in Washington and notes that this is the first holiday week he’s been in session since joining the Senate in 1981.
He notes that taxpayers are working this week, so their legislators should be in the office too — those tax revenues aren’t going to spend themselves, after all. In any case, cue the world’s tiniest violin.
@ChuckGrassley the taxpayers have to work every holiday season…and this is your first time in how many years as a Senator? #fiscalcliff—

@ChuckGrassley So, you will be working during this week every year from now on then?—

@ChuckGrassley maybe you guys should do this every year. After all, we do our jobs…—

@ChuckGrassley you're right, the taxpayers are working. How come this is the first time you are? Cut my damn taxes!—

@ChuckGrassley Taxpayers get stuff done. Keep that mind while you are working this week. Most American don't go to work to posture.—

@ChuckGrassley Did it just occur to you that you should work as hard as average citizen?—

@ChuckGrassley How many days a year do you work? Much less than taxpayers—
Larry Marson (@larrymarson) December 26, 2012
@ChuckGrassley What is this, like 60 days of work this year? Pulling OT to raise taxes, shamefull?—
Kev (@Kevgenus) December 26, 2012
@ChuckGrassley If you would have actually done your job the other days the Senate was in session, you wouldn't have to be there today.—

Slap my ass and call me Sally, hell has frozen over! RT @ChuckGrassley: The taxpayers are working. So shld we.—
