Rev. Jesse Jackson doesn't want to ban 'guns for hunting,' just 'semi automatic weapons'

Could we have just one day — just one — without astounding ignorance muddying the “national conversation” about guns? The answer, of course, is “no.”

Rev. Jesse Jackson insists gun-grabbers aren’t coming for hunting guns, just “semi automatic weapons.” Really? There’s not any overlap there, genius?

Semi-automatic weapons also come in pretty handy for self-defense, not that that makes any difference to anti-gun zealots. Now the Second Amendment is all about hunting?

RIP, honest debate.

  • John McClelland

Feinstein’s new Assault weapon ban targets more than 100 specifically named “assault rifles”, PLUS other semi-automatic rifles, SHOTGUNS and HANDGUNS. This bill will be worse than the last- and Democrats won’t let it sunset. Time to fight for your gun rights is NOW.

John, I saw this picture on Newsbusters yesterday. I think there’s a copy of it in every news room in the country.

  • Jack Deth

I doubt that Jesse is aware of the number of “semi-automatic” shot and slug guns used in hunting water fowl. Not to mention trap, skeet, sporting clays and during deer season.

He’s most definitely one the ignorant talking heads used to confuse the masses Mr. LaPierre mentioned during his press conference Friday morning.

  • John Roberson

I don’t remember seeing anything about hunting in the constitution. But I do remember seeing it mention firearms.

    • Larry Porter

Hunting is not protected by the constitution. Self defense is. Supreme Court has already spoken about both.

    • TocksNedlog

You don’t remember the part about “a well regulated dinner table”?

  • Bigeddie173

Their ignorance about guns is outstanding. Many shooting ranges have classes you can take. Perhaps they need to take some before saying some downright stupid things.

    • TugboatPhil

They don’t need to or care to, as long as their own heavily armed, security details are proficient.

    • mickeyco

Silly Ed. If JJ believed that you had to actually know what you were talking about to say anything, we would never have heard a word from the jackass.

  • stuckinIL4now

Doesn’t double J have a nut-case son to take care of or sumthin’?

    • TugboatPhil

Don’t forget the Love Child too.

      • HARP2

I believe he used a single shot for that one.

  • Cal

It bears repeating over and over: The 2nd Amendment has nothing to do with hunting.

This just confirms my opinion that his son’s been faking the “mental illness” just to stay out of jail. It was the very first thing I thought of when the grand announcement was made right after the Blags drama. No normal father wouldn’t have a sobering moment…for like MONTHS, if he had an actual mentally ill son in the wake of this, and only mention mental health about twice out of maybe 20 other anti-gun tweets. From the astounding rate of crime in Chicago, to the huge impact of abortion, dysfunctional “families” and poverty in the black community that he’s been making a living off of, this guy is despicable.

All modern guns are “semi-automatic,” in that when you fire, a new round is automatically loaded into the chamber. My 1911 Colt 45 is a “semi-automatic.” If someone is shooting at you, you need a semi-automatic because your first shots may miss; or you may be faced with more than one assailant simultaneously. Non semi-automatic weapons would include bolt action rifles and muzzle loading muskets. I know of no handguns outside of the 18th Century that would classify as “non-semi-automatic.” These would put an armed citizen defending his home at a severe disadvantage. The answer, Rev Jackson, is “NO.”

    • TugboatPhil

Stogie, My trusty .357 is not technically a semi-auto, although it does bring a fresh round into the firing position with each trgger pull.

      • Stogie Chomper

Tug, I thought that’s the definition of a semi-automatic. Each trigger pull loads a new round, as opposed to manual loading through bolt action or other means. A fully automatic would be firing one bullet as long as the trigger is pressed, as in a machine gun. However, I see your point.

Your 357 is a revolver, I presume, so the next round is loaded by finger power, rather than by the recoil of the gun, as is my Colt 45. I suppose that could be the difference in our understanding, but it seems a trivial differentiation for banning my Colt 45.

Not surprisingly, the same crowd that denounce Sarah “Moose Murderer” Palin for shooting her own dinner will now play the ‘big guns are only for hunting’ card.

  • TocksNedlog

Ain’t it FUNNY how the “We are the 99%” crowd wants to throw the 99% of legal gun owners that are safe, law-abiding and responsible under the bus?
