David Shuster on fiscal cliff showdown: Obama should 'make Boehner pay,' say, 'I will hurt you'

With the House tonight scrapping an expected vote on Speaker John Boehner’s “Plan B” to deal with the fiscal cliff, Boehner finds himself embarrassed at best, and possibly in danger of losing his leadership position. President Obama’s supporters are emboldened by the spectacular collapse of Plan B, some to a disturbing degree.

Progressive talker David Shuster, for example, says that now is the time for “no compromise” from the White House.

Tonight’s vote was pulled after Boehner and House Majority Leader Eric Cantor failed to cobble together enough support to go ahead with a vote. With friends like that, Boehner had better toughen up if he hopes to take on opponents like these. The New Republic’s Noam Scheiber is right about pain, but we’re afraid we’re all going to feel it soon enough.

Someone needs to tell Scheiber the only ash heap is Boehner’s caucus. You make a private deal with the Devil, and a knife in the back is what you’ll get. Conservatives are standing clean and shiny with the crud burned away. Plan B was DOA from the start; Dingy Harry said he wouldnt entertain the bill even before it was voted on. Speaking of pain, maybe the House should just ignore the Admin for a while (no money for Barry), and see how they like that.

Obama said he was going to take revenge. He wasn’t lying that time.

  • Steve_J

In what world does Schuster live? What has Obama done other than to make Boehner negotiate and compromise with himself?

    • lainer51

he lives in that la-la land of liberalism!

  • Harlan Hikaru Fox

The only thing Democrats care about is hurting people.

  • Jack Deth

“Obama should say, “walk away from me + I will hurt you.”

    That’s going to happen anyway.

Perhaps not directly, but through the media. Every time Boehner has applied due diligence and delivered. Obama has done nothing but smirk and move the goal posts.

It’s time to toss this flailing Narcissist In Chief an anchor!

The sad bit is no matter how this turns out, the people are going to lose. The kleptocrats on both sides of the aisle will continue to tax and spend. The Executive and Legislative branches of government, have since 2008 added between $5.8 and 6.2 TRILLION to the on-the-books debt. The tax increases coming our way, with or without a deal, are going to sap what little life is left from the economy.

We’ll long for the heady days for a 3% annual growth in GDP. “Ol’ Charlie stole the handle, and the train won’t stop going, no way to slow down.”

    • lainer51

The people already lost – on Nov. 6!

100 billion left before debt limit. Tell us again president idiot……who`s going to hurt?

  • TocksNedlog

And if we go ‘over the cliff’ don’t be surprised if the same David Shuster that included the hash tag #nocompromise in his tweets does a 180 and whines “Obama made concessions; it was the Republicans’ fault!”

  • louisiana_mom

Ugh! The David Shusters are saying the Republicans need to “compromise” and then turn around and say Obama shouldn’t compromise! I am sick of their hypocrisy. Until the Democrats are willing to “compromise” the House should do exactly what they did last night, stand by their principles.

Barry wants to hurt everyone. I’m convinced he wants this thing to crash because of his hate for traditional America and so he can be the “savior” and stay right where he is.

    • lainer51

remember the quote – “if they bring a knife”……

        Oh yeah – The Untouchables.

Really, it’s the president’s job to “punish” and extract a “price” and “teach all a valuable lesson”? It’s pretty clear that Shyster and his twidiot partners have never read the US Constitution or the Declaration of Independence. The Constitution defines the job of the president and it doesn’t include what’s quoted above. In the grievances detailed in the Declaration that were addressed to King George III 236 years ago, well, you could replace his name with Obamuh’s and it would all make sense in a modern context. And let’s not forget that the US House is there to represent the PEOPLE’S interests, so if Shyster believes that the current prezuhdunce who works for We The People is here to carry on a self-serving ego war with the people’s house and destroy the people’s interests for the satisfaction of his own conceit, arrogance, pompousness and lordly selfdom then we’re in way deeper do-do than it appears.

  • Not-a-Marxist

Bohner should tell Obama to either negotiate in good faith, meaning help avoid the cliff, or the House will go into “Harry Reid budget mode” on the debt ceiling.

    • Grumpa Grumpus

      Speaker Smeagol won’t do that.
He’s as much a progressive as Barry—
Why else decimate the committee chairs?
Because this way there is no opposition to the “last minute” deal, and no one close enough to squeal on the behind-the-closed-door-doings of Speaker Smeagol and Emperor Dingleberry.

  • lainer51

non-sense??? Really, Shuster? You trying to play POTUS is true NONSENSE!!

  • edward cropper

I didn’t know David Shyster was still around. Didn’t he become A Crapist Monk?

Um, @DavidShuster …No, Obama tells you what to say. And you say it
