ESPN's Rob Parker apologizes for 'cornball brother' remark, most viewers not convinced

After drawing near-universal fire and subsequently being suspended for branding quarterback Robert Griffin III a “cornball brother” for “not really” acting black, ESPN analyst Rob Parker has apologized:

Rob Parker apology

This was Parker’s first tweet since last Thursday, when he made the remark.

Some people commended him for fessing up to his mistake:

But if his goal is to win back angry viewers and convince them that he’s sincerely sorry, it looks like he’s facing an uphill battle:

  • Sakemoto

I apologize for Rob Parker being on ESPN.

  • Paul Beyer

He still did not admit what he said was wrong…just insensitive. What a piece of u know what.

  • rinodino

Love Rob Parker, IMO better than SAS on first take, he made a mistake time to move on

    • TomJB

Don’t buy it. His mistake was in saying what he really felt. If he were truly remorseful, he would think about this feelings about *why* this statement is offensive. Saying “my bad” like he got caught hand-checking in a basketball game just doesn’t cut it when he insults a man based upon the color of his skin and not the content of his character.

    • Michael Rice

Of course you do, because he is black.

This is fraudulent concern for Rg3. The same people that say you’re using the race card are now supposedly concerned on the way RG3 is treated. This wouldn’t be an issue here if the word Republican wasn’t used. I wonder if RG3 ‘s new conservative fanbase will demand the NFL rescind the 10000 fine given TO RG3 for wearing the “wrong ” shirt.

  • peteee363

great, now fire him like rush, and others like him. if he is put back on air, this only means espn, and rob are only sorry for getting caught.

  • sleazyrider

And Limbaugh was fired for what?

    • redrooster8

      Exactly.

  • Ten31

Parker’s mistake was a mistake of the heart. He showed how he truely feels. Sure, it is time to move on but without Rob Parker. He should be treated no different than any other bigot.

    • Silenttype78

      You are exactly right!
He showed his “true self” and he is sorry that he let it slip.

  • Russ Mirmelstein

Not surprising that Seth Davis would buy that bill of goods….after all his father is liberal apologist Lanny Davis..acorn doesn’t fall far from the tree…

  • sleazyrider

Will someone explain cornball??? Is that kinda like Erkel?

  • detroit19

He’s sorry…sorry that he made such an ignorant, racist comment on national tv.

  • sleazyrider

Does he wear plaid pants and polka dot shirts?…

  • sleazyrider

I get it now..its code word for nerdy!

  • Rella

So somehow he thinks there needs to be a “conversation” about what it means to be really black and who qualifies but he needs to be more polite in the conversation????

  • DizzyMissL

There needs to be ZERO tolerance for racism. Fire his ass.

  • JoeMusgo

He should be reinstated…right after Rush Limbaugh gets his job back on Monday Night Football.

      And Hank Jr.

  • JMK

Does @RobParkerESPN’s forced apology brought about by his bosses at @espn make him a “cornball brother?” Did he have to insult us by essentially saying the topic was worth conversation but we were too stupid to handle how he did it?

  • Scott

Guess he got the estimated amount for unemployment and realized that he can’t live off of it but thinks others can live happily on it.

  • Jack Deth

    Jeebus!

I’ve heard and seen more heartfelt and effectively delivered apologies from husbands
missing dinner and coming home drunk and late without a Kitchen Pass.

Guess that house note, high maintenance significant other and car payment kinda crept up and scared you, huh, Rob?

  • TonyMitch

I still say Robert Griffin should have walked up to Parker and kicked his ass. Then said “Is that black enough for ya brother”?

  • http://twitter.com/DennisMcMaster Dennis McMaster

That’s an apology? It comes off as “I’m sorrry that you were offended, but I was right.”

  • KansasGirl

Makes me wonder what he thinks about “whitey”?

  • DevilsPrinciple

No one should buy into this arse clowns apology. He’s insincere. He called RG III everything but a white man with his remarks.

  • $7610427

Ummm…NO! You threw your brutha under the bus simply because he’s a conservative. Poor character…poor, poor character…

America doesn’t need to see this piece of trash on T.V. again. Unless you are going to put him in a cage match with David Duke.

  • Nonya

Fire him. Needs to be shown that you can’t make a remark and not deal with the consequences.

  • Nonya

This is disgusting. All the people saying the words he chose were not well phrased. Puhlease. If he were white, his ass would be in the unemployment line right now.

    • bluewaternavy

      Not just unemployed, but unemployable.

    • NCRelite

Exactly, he didn’t phrase it right, meaning ‘we agree with you but you probably should’ve used more racial code words’
