Bette Midler asks how much more death we'll have at the hands of House Republicans

There was a lot of misinformation spread about Adam Lanza in the hours and days following the massacre of 20 children at Sandy Hook Elementary, but we’re surprised to hear that he was a Republican Congressman. How else could GOP representatives been considered to have death at their hands?

ABC’s Jake Tapper managed to buck the trend today by asking President Obama where’s he’s been for the last four years on gun violence, but it looks like his vague call for “meaningful action” after several high-profile shootings earns him a pass. Shocking, we know.

Also, the Constitution isn’t the Bible, and we know how much the Left respects that. The First Amendment, though? Sacred.

Zing!

For her next trick, Midler will read the minds of the Founding Fathers.

Obama talking points firmly embedded in the minds of the weak and ignorant. Republicans and all conservatives kill, hate, lie and are racists. That’s all they need to know.

      • Ronald

I think it’s wrong for them to label all republicans. I’m old school I guess, but I think it’s impossible to say that any group of people are all the same. Sure, any group is going to have its misfits and extremists, but does that mean the majority of us aren’t good people?

        • fmahoney

Your 100% right sir, but it’s easy for both side to lump people into little boxes. Division works real good people in power.

The reality, Obama background and upbringing has more in common with middle class hard working republicans then Romney.

When I want things that aren’t manufactured in the US any more, I buy them second hand so that China is not getting my money. It is sooooooooo much easier to avoid buying items that benefit the Hollywood machine. Bette Midler? Ha! Not a problem. The crap she has appeared in is alllllll over the flea markets.

  • dkhilly

Gotta love how people assume the founding fathers were completely ignorant to the concept of weapons technology advancement…no one at the constitutional convention (who were all too well acquainted with the horrors of gun violence) said “that english code was really just written with only cross-bows and swords in mind.”

  • TocksNedlog

There IS some truth to what she’s saying: the Constitution IS a “living document,” as evidenced by the fact that it has survived for 223 years, during which time many (most?) of the other nations in the world have rewritten their charters — some of them many times over.

  • TocksNedlog

Another lie from Bette: “Our 2nd Amendment was written BEFORE we had a national army”.
The United States Army was established in 1784, BEFORE the Constitution itself was ratified, let alone the Bill of Rights. Also, the Bill of Rights was ratified AFTER the Constitution, which (Bette’s been meaning to get around to reading it for awhile now) includes Article I, Section 8, Clause 12: ‘Congress shall have the power … To raise and support armies.’
Got it, Bette? Congress had this authority, and the U.S. Army had been established, BEFORE the 2nd Amendment was written!

But, of course, in Bette’s view this just means that the 2nd Amendment never should have been written in the first place.

Hey, do you scent burning insulation?

  • Cold War Grunt

Ms. Midler needs to work on her history …

The Congress of the Confederation officially created the United States Army on 3 June 1784.

The US Constitution: drafting began in 1787, ratification in 1789. The Bill of Rights added in 1789 with ratification by 11 states achieved in 1791.

The 2nd, 9th, and 10th amendments were the work of the anti-federalists to ensure that the central federal government would not be able usurp the power of the States.

Virginia and Pennsylvania were the “sources” for the 2nd amendment (well regulated militia and the right to keep and bear arms, respectively). With Mason, Madison and Henry being the principal proponents.

Those that don’t learn about history in the first place …

Bette logic: ‘If the framers of the Constitution had only known that it was possible for a crazy person to kill an innocent person with a gun, they would never have allowed sane people to carry guns.’

    @BetteMidler
Our 2nd Amendment was written BEFORE we had a national army or even a police force. The English law, which we copied, is 300 years old.

Hey, Bette. The 1st Amendment was written before TV, Movies, Radio and Crucifixes in urine being considered “art.” Ok if we ban all those things too?

  • tsluf273

Shorter Midler: “Pay attention to MEEEEEEEE!”

  • Dee M.

So, are we then going to start banning everything that kill people – cars, ladders, stairs, swimming pools? It’s a well-known fact. More children die by drowning in a swimming pool than by gunshot. Where’s the outcry over states legalizing drugs so people can get high and then get in a vehicle and kill innocent people, many of them children? We can legislate til the cows come home, people, but we will NEVER, EVER, be able to legislate crazy or stupid.

My approved “actor/actress/singer” list just got shorter.
