University of Rhode Island professor's retweet: Murder anyone who thinks teachers should be armed; Update: Police met with prof; Update: University issues statement

Four days ago, Erik Loomis, an assistant professor of American history at the University of Rhode Island, retweeted the above tweet. In case it disappears down the memory hole, here’s a .jpg captured for posterity:

erik loomis RT

That was just one of Loomis’ many angry, profane tweets/retweets bashing pro-gun organizations and individuals such as NRA chief Wayne LaPierre in the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary school shooting massacre in Newtown, Conn.

He calls it an “intimidation campaign” when websites such as Campus Reform, quote what he said about Wayne LaPierre:

He backs away from his “head on a stick” comment but doubles down on his view that Wayne LaPierre should be imprisoned:

Even when not addressing guns,  Loomis seems to have significant anger and anxiety issues:

There’s been a lot of talk lately about the need for access to mental health services. We hope Loomis seeks the help he so obviously needs. (Update: Lots more angry tweets here.)

* * *

Update, 1:22 pm ET: Loomis defends his “head on a stick” comment in a blog post. (It’s OK because it was a metaphor, you see.) He mentions in passing that he had “a meeting with the Rhode Island State Police last night.”

Still no defense of his pro-murder retweet.

Question: Does Loomis advocate the assassination of the Governor of Virginia?

As of 1:44 pm ET Loomis’ pro-murder retweet is still up.

* * *

Update, 3:14 pm ET: Loomis has deleted his Twitter account. The tweets he doesn’t want you to see are here.

* * *

University of Rhode Island president Dr. David M. Dooley has issued a statement on behalf of the school:

The University of Rhode Island does not condone acts or threats of violence. These remarks do not reflect the views of the institution and Erik Loomis does not speak on behalf of the University. The University is committed to fostering a safe, inclusive and equitable culture that aspires to promote positive change.

Sick retweet by disgraced Rhode Island prof Erik Loomis: ‘Hunt down Dick Morris like a pig’

Flashback: Erik Loomis criticized Sarah Palin for ‘violent rhetoric’

    Typical empty minded liberal.

“If he had a brain he would take it out and play with it.” Words from an old friend.

      • Lord Foggybottom

if he had a brain he’d be twice as stupid. 😉

        • leonard matchett

          tripple thatwill you

If he had half a brain, he’d be lonesome. 😀

If he had a brain, he wouldn’t be a liberal.

    • Lord Foggybottom

I’m not so dismissive of these people. Sure they’re empty, but they’re also dangerous – whether it’s with a gun or a ballot – they’re dangerous.

      • rgbintx

Nobody says they can’t be both empty minded and dangerous.

        • Bill Gryan

I’ll take it a step further–the two conditions are highly correlated.

  • Lord Foggybottom

If we’re going to blame everybody but the shooter, we should turn our gaze toward Adam Lanza’s teachers too, since he obviously spent a lot of time with them…

    • Manfred Moore

He was home schooled. His teachers seen a significant mental and social problem and that’s why he was removed.

      • Lord Foggybottom

Partially home schooled. The point is: if this professor is going to blame the NRA, then we should blame the professors too, as they have a *much* bigger impact on a kid’s life than the NRA ever could. If Loomis wants a target, I say make the teachers a target. Let’s investigate them too. Let’s see what kind of crap they’re putting into these murder’s heads.

        • 1SkepticalChick

I think we see an excellent example of what this “Professor of American History” is putting into the heads of students exposed to him. He’s telling them to repeal the Second Amendment, and lock up or kill gun owners. I wonder what kind of insane rants are in this book he’s writing. Apparently he is still functional enough to understand that it will never be published. Probably because it’s nothing but a many paged insane rant.

          • leonard matchett

The guys nuts. I wouldn’t let my kid within a 100 miles of him

This is another reason why I’m nervous about going to college. I don’t need to worry about whether my professor is going to threaten me or someone I support because it doesn’t fit with their views. People like this IMO are dangerous and scary.

no where in the Book does it tell us this. Keep making up your lies Satan. And, this is coming from a moron that thinks all life arose from lava and rocks ACCIDENTALLY with no goal or purpose in mind. If man has been here 1,000,000 years, increasing only at 1/2% yearly, with less than 3 children per family, the present population would be 10,000,000 per square inch of the worlds surface. Where is the fossil evidence for even ONE BILLIONTH of this number? These idiots have no answers for anything. Their false god of science couldn’t solve one major problem for mankind in 6,000 years.

Hi Josephine, don’t count out college if you want to pursue a career where a college degree is a huge plus. I would suggest you do your research on the different colleges you’re interested in and their philosophies. Academia is mostly left-leaning, but you can learn a lot, make great connections, and get ready for a great career. If your career choice doesn’t necessarily need a college degree, find ways to do internships in that field where you can learn, make contacts, and gain experience. Good luck!

You insist on a (D) after your name but you’re worried about people like Erik Loomis? Josephine, the Left Wing of the Democratic Party, which runs all the Universities, are all clones of Erik Loomis. They’re not allowed to think for themselves. I was a professor once and believe me, even the so-called moderates are radicals. Educate yourself in values and tradition. They count. Radicalism is a flash in the pan. Trouble is it’s also dangerous. Come over to the Right. We’re Right. We’re also less dangerous.

      • Zanshi

Actually, the (D) after he name was because of RBPundit’s Twitter stunt to immunize himself from left wing attacks. Josephine is a conservative, tried and true. :)

      • Josephine (D)

I put a (D) by my name so I can get away with saying offensive stuff. It was suggested in a Twitchy article a few days ago.

I agree Bob. If we ban guns because of Sandy Hook we should ban scalpels and instruments that vacuum a living fetus from the mother’s womb…in some cases just because they were too stupid or lazy to use birth control. Unless abortion is performed for medical reasons or rape…it is murder.

  • Marcy Cook

Amazing…the shooter is to blame but what do these libs do?…..the same old thing…blame everyone else. Their playbook is very old and very tiring now.

  • Jerry Erb

what a bunch of nut cases. they need 72 hours in a mental hospital under close supervision. they are making threats on peoples safety i for one am done letting this kind of talk go unreported. that is what seems to have happened in this case. even at age 12 the murder was showing signs of being troubles, and last week his mother said she was losing him. why are the left wing not taking that to task? oh that’s right they just want to put a band aid on this not not fix it. that would take real work and we all know how they feel about working.

  • grais

Does Loomis have any idea about what specific law LaPierre has broken, or is he just another liberal knucklehead who likes to imagine laws that don’t exist and crimes that haven’t occured?
This is what educates our children?!?
    God help us.

    • Bill Gryan

LaPierre’s “crime” was to exercise his 1st Amendment rights. If a liberal disagrees with LaPierre’s message, it’s “hate speech” and reason enough to deprive him of his 1st and 2nd Amendment rights.

Liberals love unrestricted free speech, so long as the speech is coming out of their own a**. Profanity, death threats, etc. are all fair game. But other speakers are not entitled to these rights.

  • angelsinca

Whatever Loomis has can be treated with loss of tenure.

  • Marcy Cook

WOW…they just put Loomis’ picture up. One scary looking dude. They say you can see crazy in the eyes and this guy has it. He should be taken in and questioned about his sanity and then given a pink slip. He seems dangerous.

  • Manfred Moore

Well I see that mental midget R.I professor he is only focusing on a small part of the solution. Tell him I’m the first person and he better bring a big stick because I’ll introduce him to “The Big Bang” and it’s not theory !!

  • Duddioman

This is a perfect picture of the decline of American education…. This man teaches at a college level and his logic and emotion are resting on a kindergarten level. =/

    • FuzzyBobby

And there is Bill Ayers, the never prosecuted terrorist that now teaches kids somewhere around Chicago. No wonder the violence is so bad there.

      • Leona Coyne

Yes, Ayers finally retired from the University of Illinois at Chicago but he still gets involved in getting the young people riled up and he still collects speakers fees from other colleges. Disgusting. This is the man who teaches teachers.

        • SineWaveII

          Works for me

  • TexasTemplar

what an idiot. This Liberal is dangerous to himself and others. He is a typical academic Liberal. As far as his being ‘beaten to death’ statement….I’d be happy to show him how that happens.

  • unklbrad

Dear (anonymous) Rude Pundit and Erik,
Please attempt to beat me to death. I dare you.

p.s. I am not one who believes that turning our schools into armed fortresses is the right way to deal with a madman.

  • Theresa O’Keefe-Soeller

My school district has an armed State trooper at the school while school is in session and I for one am very reassured about that. I don’t think we should arm our teachers but an armed guard or police presence might make a “shooter” think twice before picking that school as an easy target.

  • Joe

“Teachers need to be armed and trained in defense of the children they are responsible for.” BRING IT ON ASSHAT LOOMIS!!!

  • Johnny Blade

This guy is paid to teach? I would say we have just found the damn problem.

  • Sharpshooter

This guy seems to be as mentally deranged as the shooter! If the proper mental treatment were available to him, he may be able to be helped. What is very scary indeed is this is an example of the kind of instruction our young people are getting!

  • Jared Keeny

I wonder where he thinks Eric Holder should be? Oh wait, maybe he thinks that was Wayne LaPierre’s fault too!

  • mkreider

Liberals are extremely nasty with words but as usual they are flaming little pansies. Chicago has some of the strictest gun laws in this country and it sure hasn’t even slowed down the carnage. What is the answer: Better mental health screening and more protection in the schools. The RI Professor would be #1 on the list of people that would need mental health screening…

    • Bart

Its ironic that its the progressives (aka liberals) and the ACLU that did away with mental health institutions.

  • Gary Williams

Idiots like this never seem to have the balls to confront people face to face with comments like this,in typical liberal fashion he’s hiding in a basement somewhere waiting for someone to do something about the supposed problem.

  • John W. Kerr

Godless leftist always advocate “murder” of their all their opposition just as their peers, Adolf, Stalin, Lenin, Castro, Kim yun, and Pol Pot etc. always practiced!!!

  • Clowns_to_the_Left

Someone sounds a little unstable…..not suited to teach children

    • dkhilly

Yeah, maybe he knows a gun doesn’t belong in his unstable hands, and is therefore projecting that on to all other teachers as well.

  • David Beck

next we should ban forks and spoons for making people fat and cars for making people drive drunk. what has happened to personal responsibility in this country. everyone is so quick to blame everyone but the actual person that caused the tragedy. and this idiot claiming the NRA are terrorist, really how stupid can you be and your are responsible for teaching our youth. in that case you are responsible for all the tragedy that happens as well because you should be teaching the truth instead of your irrational single sided views of what you want.

    • Ed Mueller

I grew up around guns, and then spent 20 years in the military… and it was my choice not to own a gun during that time — but NEVER was I thinking that it was evil to own a gun or to support a person’s right to own one. Education is the key, and this “professor” is a prime example of what’s wrong with education in this country… rather than teach facts and teach young people responsibility and making informed decisions, it becomes a platform for personal agendas.

  • Gary Williams

We need to bring back lunatic asylums, that will sove a whole lot of little problems all at once.

  • SineWaveII

Gee, you think maybe it’s this kind of talk that cause things like this shooting to happen? Naw couldn’t be.

  • Mark Stephens

All right, let’s say I accept that “I want Wayne LaPierre’s head on a stick” is not a metaphor for wanting him dead. Would you please explain to me what you meant? Your logic escapes me.

Oh! I’m sorry. I forgot that I was dealing with a liberal, and logic is not required to make an argument. Only cursing.

  • Bruce Cline

Wow, and this clown is teaching our kids?

  • Arlie Box

Dude is definitely off his meds.
Funny how these people get into the academic positions they do.
So let see if I understand him.
Because ONE PERSON KILLS another or group of people, We should all get together and MURDER those who had NOTHING to do with the first murder?!?
Sounds as if Eric Loomis need to be Locked up in a PSYCH WARD!!

  • grais

    Gun violence – bad.
Beating someone to death – good.

  • Mike Meyer

Murder by beating? I thought this was the “love and compassion” crowd. What I don’t understand is why they don’t want children to be safe from criminals in schools with guns intent on murdering them? Why do they hate children so much that they want crazy people to be allowed to come into the school and murder them? What’s wrong with these people? And we’re the sick ones? Yeah, right!

  • Jack Deth

“First fucker to say the solution is for elementary school teachers to carry guns needs to get beaten to death.”

This from someone who looks like he should be on a Neighborhood Sexual Predator/Pedophile Watch List?

Be careful, Professor. Your language may cause one of your or some other “educator”‘s student to violently freak out.

  • Jason Ellis

Teachers should be armed. I’m sure I’m not the first F&^$er to say it, but, go ahead…make my day and just TRY it bub.

  • disqus_xP1EfFpQTG

hope Loomis has no guns. He’s in an extremely fragile fucked up state of left wing dementia!

  • Joe Bannister

What kind of dope thinks that keeping schools “Only bad guys gave guns zones” is a good Idea?

  • Rodney Buse

the only idiot I have read anything about is Erik Loomis, what a fucktard. there are so many things this pitiful excuse for a person has said that are so far out of an intelligent mindset that I don’t even know where to begin. Blaming the NRA – really, threatening those that actually are trying to help – really, and using the incident as political leverage – REALLY, omg can you get any more messed up. How long will it be before you snap and become another madman killer. The only way to deter these tragedies is three fold first quit sensationalizing the madmen, prepare teachers to deal, and lock your crazy mouth shut

  • Eliza

So he is advocating murder! Way to go teacher. What is the name of that song where they say “Teach your children well?” Yeah right!!!

  • Semper Fi

You can have all my guns. Just come to my house and bring yours.

  • Melissa Hoffman

OMG well whatever we do, let’s NOT put a gun in this lunatics hands!!!!!

  • Allen Farlow

I hope the university does the right thing and FIRES Eric Loomis – they should not have someone so stupid in such a position of influence over others. The NRA shot no one, neither did LaPierre. Guns don’t kill people – the people behaving badly while holding them do. Maybe one day Loomis will realize that and have a mental enlightenment.

  • Douglas Daniels

Dear Liberals, Do you know the definition of family values? It’s not killing infants in the womb.

  • Joe

This guy has the anger and bitterness of that gunman. He is scarey.

  • Creed
  • 13strigoi

“to put crazy guns in everyone’s hands.” I agree, we should put sane, well-adjusted guns in everyone’s hands. And to think he’s only an assistant professor.

  • chuck

In Israel the teacher’s carry weapons and they don’t have the issues we have here.

  • Michael Hadsell

This guy needs to be locked up…

    • Hello Jerry (D)

And when they do…. throw away the key!

  • Joe

This is an example of the so called tolerant left. He probably gets his news from msdnc and the huffington compost.

  • Kelly Layne

this guy is a loony toon and he is teaching our future

  • $22639970

People who wonder why our students grow up to be retards need only examine the clarity of thought being offered by so-called teachers like Erik Loomis.

  • Bart

Wow Eric. Your one of the loons we need to keep guns away from. Your completely disassociated from reality.Your Polemic behavior is quite disturbing.

  • jw str8up

Liberal idiots like this teaching in public schools and people wonder why kids are so F’ed up now-a-days? These liberals are all mentally unstable and a dime to a dollar this guy has been on ADD/ADHD/Depression meds since grade school.

  • John L Gill

Why are the ones who is in control of this sight allow the dirty words that is being use

  • Robert Saxton

Hey Erik, I think the solution is for elementary school teachers to carry guns. Sure would like to discuss it with ya.

  • Jane Bowen

i am sure he would be the one hiding in the closet to protect his own life until the shooting is over in such an incident. is that the kind of person you want to leave your child in the care of?

  • jw str8up

Liberal idiots like this teaching in public schools and people wonder
why kids are so effed up now-a-days? These liberals are all mentally

  • RN

That day of the tragedy was also the day when a man stabbed 22 children in China. So, whether one will use a gun or a knife, tragedy will always happen. There are just some people who are crazy.

The mental stability of college professors should be tested immediately. We would be doing it for the children.

  • disqus_eslqC70Xbi

Mr. Loomis, as well educated as you are, you should have a larger vocabulary than you do. You have a right to your opinion but to talk about murdering someone after the tragedy that happened last Friday is ludicrousness. Educate yourself in the wonderful use of other words that the English language has to offer to display your displeasure.

At this point I think that to angrily debate gun control is a disservice and is doing more harm than good. We need to gather together and support all these families that have lost a child or loved one in Conn. I’ll be praying for you, Erik Loomis.

  • Dawn Elizabeth Slike

Pretty sad. But then again there’s nothing surprising about a secular school professor ranting liberal nonsense. Criminals and insane people shoot up little kids. People who love them need to have the means to prevent that.

  • FLMom

This “man” is a history teacher at the collegiate level. This terrfies me.

  • Johnie Osborne

ERIK guns are not the problem the problem comes from idiots like you that cant see that the only safe person is an armed person . why is it that sweden has the lowest gun related crime rate and guess what everyone is armed

  • Danny Wheeler

Erik Loomis needs to be in a straight jacket and put in a padded cell.

  • Jeff Peppler

you have anger issues and Defently should not own a gun, infact you may want to go get checked out. dont blame the gun or the nra, if he did use a gun it could of been a pipe bomb, fertalizer and a ton of other stuff.

  • Patriot4ever

And this idiot has the responsibility of teaching our young people? Now that is intimidating!

  • agentreddoll

Erik Loomis is an idiot. He is spewing more violence, makes him sound like a terrorist. Threatening gun owners??? You got a lot of balls doing this. I pray for you.

    • Hello Jerry (D)

This pussy would wet his panties when confronted by a “NRA Nut”.

  • todd

what is scary is that he is teaching young people… on one hand he condemns violence but then he embraces it to further his views… very bi polar shizo if you ask me..

  • cfwendel

Mr Loomis, you are sure showing your ugly ass. Get prepared for Hell to be your home in the eternity.

  • Jeff Peppler

this idiot is a teacher ? ok there is one that needs to be removed from any school, this guy is a nut case and has serous issues.

  • Matt

Wow, have I said how happy I am that a$$ hats like that are teaching our youth? Differing views aside, I can respect someone’s opposing viewpoint, but his inability to calmly, rationally voice his opinion shows a lack of, dare I say, intelligence. Time to separate emotion from logic bro.

  • Adam Jacobs

So again we get the blanket statement about Republicans. But how ironic that more children are killed every year by “choice” than by guns. I guess Democrat logic tells us it’s okay to kill babies, but only when it’s a mother’s “choice.” Any other way is reason for extreme anger and knee-jerk reactionary calls for gun control. If this professor is so upset about babies being killed, why isn’t he mad at the president of Planned Parenthood as well? Why isn’t he metephorically calling for her head on a stick?

    • lainer51

Never met a Dem. that opposed abortion – are there any of you out there?

  • Eric Miller

This guy is a certifiable nut!

  • Brad Wenner

This Eric Loomis is an asshole and apparently a very violent man. these ticking timebombs are the ones that end up committing these heinous crimes. Anyone with a child in that college should call for his immeadiate dismissal and the local DA should get him a mental evaluation. Guns don’t kill people, assholes like you kill people or at the very least pervert others minds with your hateful rhetoric.

  • LOC

…what an amazing display of LACK OF INTELLIGENCE and social ignorance. Will be praying for your revelation.

  • Bogleman

It’s bullies like this guy that make me want to carry a gun more that ever. Now he’s saying that people should be beaten to death for exercising their right to free speech???????Sometimes I think Liberal activists are bigger bullies than all the criminals, cops and lawyers that we have in society put together! Stop trying to shove your morality down my throat, and, at the same time, stop suffering from chronic self-importance and phony self-righteousness! OK, Erik baby?

  • LOC

obviously, none of these that believe the gun is our enemy have ever done missionary work in a foreign country where that’s the only way in is under armed guard…. but that’s a story for another day… I personally carry a loaded Bible, but we’ve already outlawed God from the schools. Can I carry it concealed? “L” is not for liberal – it’s for Lunacy!

One would think that a History professor who knows da mn well the reason for the 2nd Amendment is to keep the people from being slaved by the government, would think twice before making such outrageous statements.

    • Teresa Davis McCormick

that was the scary part for me. He’s actually teaching History. We need to educate ourselves about who these quacks are that are filling our kids heads with crap.

Mr. Loomis – If your attempt at writing is anywhere near the same quality as what you tweet, I can almost guarantee you no one will publish your “book”. Maybe you need to lay off the Ripple, save the money you spend on it and self publish. Of course, even then, the best you’ll probably do is crank out a few copies on your printer at home, stapled together in one of those cute little clear covered folders.

  • Mariah Wilson

This guys a fucking moron. A man with a bad attitude and no one will ever be able to tell him otherwise bc of how thick headed this stubborn prick is.

  • Gallatin

Do the students even question/challenge these buffoons anymore? I was in a class 30 years ago where I had to listen to this insufferable liberal blather about how the US government should institute a “peace academy”. I stopped doodling long enough to give my input, I said; “The US already has three peace academies, West Point, Annapolis, and Colorado Springs.” Every one was offended and I went back to doodling.

  • bucketbaby2

And this left-winged loon is teaching your children…scary thought!

  • TonyMitch

Buying a gun in the U.S. is tougher than being an illegal voting.

  • Manfred Moore

    Now we’re

    Vermont State Rep. Fred Maslack
has read the Second Amendment to the
U.S. Constitution, as well as Vermont’s
    own Constitution very carefully, and
    his strict interpretation of these
documents is popping some eyeballs in
    New England and

Maslack recently proposed a bill to register “non-gun-owners”
require them to pay a $500 fee to the state. Thus Vermont would become

the first state to require a permit for the luxury of going about

unarmed and assess a fee of $500 for the privilege of not owning a
Maslack read the “militia” phrase of the Second Amendment as not
    only the
right of the individual citizen to bear arms, but as ‘a clear
    mandate to do
so’. He believes that universal gun ownership was
    advocated by the Framers
of the Constitution as an antidote to a
    “monopoly of force” by the
government as well as criminals. Vermonts
    constitution states explicitly
that “the people have a right to bear
arms for the defense of themselves and
    the State” and those persons
who are “conscientiously scrupulous of bearing
    arms” shall be required
    to “pay such equivalent..”

    Clearly, says
Maslack, Vermonters have a constitutional obligation to
    arm themselves, so
that they are capable of responding to “any
    situation that may arise.”

Under the bill, adults who choose not to own a firearm would be

required to register their name, address, Social Security Number, and

driver’s license number with the state. “There is a legitimate

government interest in knowing who is not prepared to defend the state

should they be asked to do so,” Maslack says.

    Vermont already boasts
a high rate of gun ownership along with the
    least restrictive laws of any
state…. it’s currently the only state
that allows a citizen to carry a
    concealed firearm without a permit.
This combination of plenty of guns and
    few laws regulating them has
resulted in a crime rate that is the third
    lowest in the nation.

“America is at that awkward stage. It’s too late
    to work within the
system, but too early to shoot the bastards.”

makes sense! There is no reason why gun owners should have to pay
    taxes to
support police protection for people not wanting to own guns.
    Let them
contribute their fair share and pay their own way. Sounds
    reasonable to me!
Non-gun owners require more police to protect them
and this fee should go to
    paying for their defense!

    • Mikey

      Freaking Brilliant !!

  • Chris Hopson

PLEASE read, sign, and share! We need 25,000 signatures by Jan 15 to get a White House response!

  • FuzzyBobby

I think I’d put this Eric guy on the no buy weapons list. I also think he’s off his meds.

  • Dandy1

His kind of anger and vile is the problem in society. Frustration leads to violence. Doesn’t he see the hypocrisy and irony in his statement? Not a thinking man.

  • NCGirl

This is really very disturbing. To want to lash out ond beat someone to death who had nothing to do with this tragedy is very sad. The fact that this man is teaching our future generations, and American History no less, is very concerning and the Dean should really take a closer look at this professor and see if he is really the best fit for the students there.

I personally believe that it’s hate like this that fuels a lot of the violent behavior we see in today’s society. How many times have all of us seen death threats put against those who disagree with a certain point of view, and I’m not just talking about people on the left. I’ve seen it from my friends on the right as well and it makes me wonder how our children are being taught to love each other if their parents can’t even do it.

The whole tone in this country needs to change in order to make it better. If you disagree with someone’s views then that’s fine but stop the name calling and hateful vitreol. It takes more restraint to not lash out and think things through, but I feel people are better for it. I see so many people on here talk about how intolerant people are while at the same time calling them “Right Wing Nuts” or “Leftist Libtards” and go on to talk about how we should be more civil… ummmm… ?!

I’m not trying to be up on any kind of high horse and really can’t say thay I’ve never done it before either but I’m certainly trying to make it a priority to be kinder to even those people who think i should be killed for having a certain view point. Sorry about the rant, this post really got to me and that’s my two cents…

  • c2

This guy has access to young minds. He shouldn’t.

  • Rosie

The same people who constantly go on and on and on about how guns kill and wars are bad and we need to do something about all the violence in the world are the same ones who, the second you give an opinion or view that differs from theirs, threaten you and wish for the end of your life. It’s baffling, really.

  • Scott Heckman

wait a minute….if “head on a stick” is a metaphor, then do you suppose that sarah palin “targeting” certain congressional districts in an election was also a metaphor and not a contribution factor for Rep Giffords getting shot?
Would love to see Loomis’ unhinged tweets from that incident.

  • Jfrowmo

But he is a professor and has numerous degrees!…………..Yep and Jose who changes your oil at your local Wal-Mart is a technician and has a diploma! I think I would give more regard to Jose’s opinions who is in the real world everyday instead of this full time student turned professor!

  • rjefmiller

I just checked the University of Rhode Island Directory, and there is indeed an Erik Loomis on the faculty. He is an assistant professor of History. His e-mail is listed there as well should you wish to contact him directly

Earth to Crazy, Earth to Crazy “F— the National Rifle Association and its policies to put crazy guns in everyone’s hands” Raise your hand if anyone has ever seen a gun with a brain? CRAZY GUNS! Those things are out of their minds! And he picks on people for not getting his “metaphor”

  • Michael Elkins

If I say that arming teachers is a good idea, its probably because I am armed myself. Mr Loomis is welcome to *try* to beat me to death. As I am armed, he may have some difficulty.

  • Randy

Wow….Prof. Loomis has completely flown off the res.

  • JRu4Life

The “professor” made a point he wasn’t trying to make. You can outlaw guns all day long – someone can still beat you to death…or stab you to death…or push you off the nearest tall building so you fall to your death…or run over you with a car…

  • Thom*

or the murder of the Mayor of Detroit and his daughters?

  • Carey Hayden

I wonder if Loomis wants Obama and Holder’s “heads on a stick” for Fast and Furious or Obama and Hillary’s “heads on a stick” for Benghazi and all those women aborting their babies every day. I’m sure that’s different! His love and admiration for the progressive/socialists/communists blinds him.

  • Angie (D)

I posted this at his blog post “clarifying” (really “rationalizing”) his use of the metaphor “head on a stick:”

Ah yes, today “head on a stick” is a metaphor — a metaphor for killing someone that used to not be a metaphor at all, but very literal. See, despite your protests to the contrary and the tragedies & violence that are still with us, our society has actually become LESS violent — we no longer walk around with people’s head on a stick, displaying them at our city gates. . The media, people’s perceptions, have turned everything upside down. Today we tend to believe that the past was an innocent and peaceful time and that it’s only recently that we’ve become violent and evil. There are actually people, Americans, like you Mr. Loomis (a “professor!” for the love of all that is good & holy) who now believe America is some inherently evil, violent, unrestrained, uncivilized society. Compared to what, exactly, I wonder? Certainly not the past and certainly not other present day countries, such as –oh, Syria, for example, heck, not even compared to the UK whose rate of violent crimes is currently higher than ours (rising steadily & ironically enough since their total gun ban in the late 80s).

You can’t solve problems when your understanding of history and your perceptions of who we are are all backwards. But alas, we’ve entered into the most aggressively ignorant period of human history since the Dark Ages.

  • Danny Wheeler

Oh, my! The professor wasn’t as wise as he thought he was.

  • Sonya A. Willis

This guy is a walking time bomb and a poster child for “means justifies the ends.”

  • JRu4Life

The “professor” made a point he wasn’t trying to make. You can outlaw guns all day long…someone can still beat you to death…or stab you to death…or push you off the nearest tall building so you fall to your death…or run over you with a car…are we going to outlaw fists/baseball bats, knives, tall buildings, cars…everything????

  • disqus_w75UbfPfLl

Did not know there are so many idiots out there.. how about blaming the real reason for the murders.. the shooter and his mental illness. Maybe our culture.. I grew up when every pickup had a gun rack in it parked in school lots and NEVER a gun shooting.. we had more institutions for the sick, and we valued life but now we have crappy video games and no value of life and the ACLU interferes where they should not.

  • SunnyJS

Alinsky’s rules call for this instructors ranting and threatening. Next step is collapse of society it causes because it destroys the freedoms we all have under the constitution, while we try to deal with this. It’s the goal.

  • tom

So much for free speech at the university of Rhode isalnd. do they have a No tolerances hate/ violence/ bullying policy? guess he will be fired then right???????

  • quillerm

Any Professor that advocates beating people to death because of their opinion or views is a danger to society and should be given a mental health evaluation. He is a threat to students in his current mental state.

  • Rob Ramcharan

Let the right-wing calls for homosexual gang-rape/murder in prison for Professor Loomis begin! Cue the crickets chirping, please…

  • Renny

Hmm? Assistant professor who is a flaming, liberal hypocrite? Never seen one of those before. /s

  • SlimWich

I would have to believe that there are several individuals involved in the massacre on Friday who wish that brave principal had a weapon when she tried to defend her students. What a very different story we’d be debating today were it the case.

Here’s something that is apparently too complex for Mr. Loomis to understand: criminals will always have weapons. Why does he wish for the rest of us to be at their mercy?

  • Jeff Conner

I invited him to take his best shot ! I believe all teachers should carry guns , granted secured , but still at an area where they may make the difference

  • Teresa McLaughlin

had he written very calmly and articulately none of you would be debating this with him. I see a person infuriated by a failing system and that common sense and good will fall on deaf ears and so has resorted to emotionally charged language to try to make people see some sense. I do believe freedom of speach is also one of your beloved constitutions. You cant pick and choose.

    • RightThinking1

Hold it…., I invite you as a surrogate to make an “articulate” presentation of one of his tweets that sounds reasonable.
The truth is that outbursts such as his reek of suppressed anger, and it is unlikely that the underlying cause(s) of his outbursts are actually the NRA, guns, or even the murders.

  • ZoriahShepard

Ha!! Troll went underground. His account is deleted. A coward in the truest sense.

  • Hello Jerry (D)

Erik Loomis would make a good human shield for the police.

  • Keith Lacey

  • Michael McElwrath
this MORON would never get past a mental health background check if they existed for weapons.

  • Charlie Martin

As of 2:50 Eastern Time, @ErikLoomis’s page is gone.

The NRA did not pull the trigger? It figures that some far left nitwits would jump on this and try to use a tragedy of this magnitude to push their own agenda and it’s because they have no class or honor. I think it’s a great idea to have some teachers in our schools that are trained and armed or some type of armed security to protect our children. The thing the left does not seem to grasp or want to hear is that you can pass all of the gun laws you want to but criminals don’t obey laws.

  • TWG2A

HA! Looks like that prick was visited by the Rhode Island Police last night, and the university where he dpews his hatred and murderous violence is now involved.

Here’s an excerpt from that thing’s blog page:

“The last couple of days have been a bit challenging for me. Being
attacked by a David Horowitz wannabe for saying I wanted to see Wayne
LaPierre’s head on a stick has led to a world of fun, ranging from a
meeting with the Rhode Island State Police last night to people
inundating the University of Rhode Island community with warnings of
their murderous colleague in their midst.

So to clarify, I want to make it blindingly clear that I did not call
for the assassination of Wayne LaPierre. In my world, calling for
someone’s head on a stick is a metaphor to hold them responsible for
their actions. I think the last time “head on a stick” actually meant
murder was sometime around 1450. That anyone would take this seriously
as a murder threat is completely absurd. What stinks about it is that it
has now involved my family, colleagues, and university. So I’ll
apologize to them and to anyone legitimately offended by my metaphor.”

  • Larry Holmack

So in this idiots logic…the CEO’s of all the beer manufacturers should be jailed because peoplle drink beer, then drive while they are drunk and kill people in auto accidents. And his employer has no problems with these tweets?

Skool admin better make sure Erik Loomis doesn’t have access to guns – looks like he’s about to go ballistic.

We need background checks on “educators” such as this, they shouldn’t be allowed to poison the minds of students.

  • John Blankenship
  • Dane Gunderson

Loomis just needs to volunteer at Planned Parenthood and murder some unborn… that’ll loosen him up.

  • Sacha B. Nice

Erik Loomis is the type of frustrated degenerate who will kill himself one day, probably along with others and blame someone else for it. But.. it’s LaPierre’s fault… whatever. Fools can’t handle freedom and would rather have a tyrant tell them what to do.

  • Rick Olson

So this is befitting a college Professor? ah, but yes coming from such a Bastion of Liberalism perhaps it is encouraged and sanctioned? Threats of Murder BAD…Threats of murder against the NRA…Good.

This “professor” teaches at an absolute bottom-feeder college in a state that is as backward as the hills of West Virginia and as corrupt as Chicago.

The irony. Wait until the facts all come out how many teachers knew this situation was potentially dangerous. And I’m quite sure we’ll find out the mother DID work there even if a volunteer.

  • Tim McGough

Erick Loomis has his own mental health issues and should seek treatment for his anger issues. It is sad , someone like him is allowed to teach to our youth in America!!! I can’t believe his employer would continue to employ him after reading his twitter account!

    • Sarah Cipriano

Tenure, tenure, tenure. It keeps the worst, the least and the bottom filth teaching our youth. Good work RIU. You employ the left-wing creeps who are really dangerous because they bully and threaten. Again, good work RIU. I’d never send my kids to your pool of filth.

  • HughGKnutts

Loomis reminds us why the pharmaceutical companies so desperately need to find a cure for liberalism.

  • Wayne Moore

@disqus_jDPFVIJLME:disqus you are so right about that Bob. Liberal Democrats kill more babies every year they are the mass murders and they dont use a gun they use the courts and unethical doctors to carry out their mass killings. Maybe Erik needs to go and one of those abortions might just change his mind. Why is it when a democrat does it is is alright. Like Al Gore flying around on a private jet carbonizing the air when he could be using mass transportation like he wants us to do. I know Democrats speak a good game but they dont have any game do they like talk the walk but dont walk the talk. Liberal Democrats are mass murders.

If we lived in a civilized society, this Loomis would be undergoing a psychiatric assessment, and the police – with a warrant in hand – would be checking out his home for firearms.

  • RightThinking1

The mentality of this guy suggests that HE ought to be looked into. He may be the next nut-case.

  • BeautifulAmerica

This guy just got caught. MOST university profs are openly, defiantly, Communist, e.g., like Bill Ayers & his wife, and have been for years. They are not so much teachers as political activators (obamao-style). There is no hope for a discussion with graduates from top colleges, e.g., Harvard, Princeton, Brown, and URI, who have heard this political propaganda during their entire education.
I wrote to Dooley, President of the University of RI, and recommend you do, too. Check out his non-statement regarding Loomis, on their web page.

You want to know why I’m worried about sending my dd to college? You’re looking at it.

This guy isn’t wrapped very tight, has poor personal boundaries and apparently no conscience nor shame, not to mention serious anger management issues. Like his political views give him license to act like a totally dangerous loon?

It doesn’t. If the administrators keep him in their employ, you’ll know all that you need to know about them, too. There is a huge difference between allowing diverse opinions and espousing violence. No, it’s not poetic license, this yahoo took it way beyond that.

Hey University of Rhode Island, is this what you call professional, let alone appropriate, behavior from one of your instructors?

  • Stevepvb

Where but a left wing university can you do this and keep your job. By the way — what did the police do? Anything?

  • SClanding

That nut is one ticking time bomb which the U of Rhode Island would do well monitor lest he ends up taking out a few dormitories and students. No need to have young people exposed to a such dangerous mental case.

For you anti gunners wake up idiots, guns are not the problem so disarm responsible law bidding citizens then only crazy criminals will have guns, Oh damn could have saved my family from those wacko nut jobs

  • BobTheUmp

It is knee-jerk reacting weak kneed jerks like this lib that should be in court. The gun laws are what they are for now and in the recent past. The world has been witness to horrific killings in schools promoted inadvertently by endless news coverage. In this country, since Columbine and Va. Tech every educator on every campus from nursery schools to Harvard Square has been aware of the danger and yet there was not a single armed person within miles to protect those children. The schools who don’t have police or armed security on site are criminally negligent in the care and protection of our children. It is the namby-pamby liberal mind set that has left six year old children to be easy targets for the crazy folks who would use guns here or machetes in China. Liberal fear mongers who put their politics ahead of our children’s safety are culpable in this case. They knew of the danger and did not one damn thing to prepare for it.

  • RightThinking1

Wait, wasn’t Ted Kaczynski (disciple of Al Gore) an assistant professor, or some such?
I have a feeling that this guy fits the same mold.

  • fivegreatkids

I attended BYU where the majority of my profs were conservative. Was SO nice to have intelligent conversations in class–we did have lib profs but most of the students were conservative so their philosophies always received lots of feedback in class. My kids attend a public school where Glenn Beck’s history clips are regularly shown in history class.
Other opinions are invaluable for learning but this Erik “professor” sounds like a total nut case without the ability to speak English! People pay for their kids to listen to him??

  • MirrorKrys

They just arrested a guy on Long Island who said on the phone out of frustration I am sure that he was going to kill the FEMA person if they showed up…he was at his last straw after the mishandling of the recovery and said that on the phone. Promptly arrested. I am so sick of law enforcement going after regular people who may vent on the spur of the moment about the government. I can see checking it out, but arresting him? Yet Leftist hate mongers like the prof who over and over tweet and write about killing others get off? Such a double standard on our taxpayers dime.

    • repsac3

  • John Titus

How insensitive of this PROFESSOR at a learning institution, which I bet receives many a NRA card carrying members dollars to support themselves via Federal money.

Demand Erik Loomis be fired. From reading his tweets he is an angry and scary individual who doesn’t seem to have a problem supporting violence as long as it falls in line with his beliefs. I would not want my child in front of this teacher for a minute.

  • oldprof36

Wow! Sounds as if someone has anger issues and doesn’t know how to deal with them in a healthy way!! In my opinion, this tragic event is not as much about gun control as the apparent anger issues of the shooter. TV, movies, and video games dwell too much on hatred, screaming, verbal threats, and physical altercations because, sadly, they have audience appeal. What has happened to the role-modeling of healthy dialogue toward solving disagreements? Doesn’t anyone else see the brainwashing from the violence of certain video games and concern for the admiration some have for those with the most kills? How can we be surprised when they move their fantasy world into reality?

There needs to be more attention given to conflict resolution because if someone really wants to inflict harm, they’ll find a way to do it. All the shootings of which I’m aware occurred in known gun-free environments. The shooters knew they had defenseless victims. I don’t have the answers but maybe at least on college campuses and military bases more guns should be allowed to be carried. I don’t know if a mentally ill person would be deterred or not. That’s where we need mental health experts to be advising our leaders. Rational heads are needed. Try to outsmart and think ahead of potential shooters. Instead of arguing about the ‘why’, focus on preventing another tragedy, please!!!
