New Mexico professor uses Newtown massacre to mock Christianity

It appears that Rhode Island does not enjoy a monopoly on professors tweeting vile things about the Newtown shootings. Another callous ghoul has emerged in the form of Geoffrey Miller, professor of Evolutionary Psychology at the  University of New Mexico and author of The Mating Mind: How Sexual Choice Shaped the Evolution of Human Nature. In addition to mocking people who think that God protected a young girl from death, he also seemed to blame a victim for the tragedy.

Of course, those familiar with the details of the attack know that Nancy Lanza was likely shot with her own stolen gun. Is Professor Miller suggesting that Lanza’s gun ownership is what caused the massacre? One would think that a professor of Evolutionary Psychology, of all things, would have something high-minded to say about Adam Lanza’s mental problems. A man who teaches classes like “Evolution, Brain, and Behavior” and “Human Emotions” should have plenty of well-informed ideas about what genetic traits create a child-butchering monster.  Yet, somehow, the best response he had to this atrocity was anti-religious bigotry.

Then again, considering what this man spends his days thinking about, maybe we shouldn’t be surprised at his infantile rantings.

OK, maybe that’s a below-the-belt punch, but we just couldn’t resist.

Below the belt …*giggle*

You better stick your dirty sexist remarks. i always heard that people that have to talk about it constantly don’t have much of a sex life. All fantasy, just as your thoughts on the NRA.

He makes a living teaching a made-up subject, that he expects people to take seriously because it’s PC to believe in evolution as fact. So naturally, his views are PC rather than scholarly.

To show how silly he is, he actually thinks it’s viable to disarm Americans and make ownership illegal. When someone replies to his tweet with this:
“Because what we really need in this country is more people in prison for consensual, non-violent crimes.”

    He replies with:
“I never consented to people owning guns, and guns are designed entirely for violence”

Edit: Oh, and his “Research” papers appear to be nothing so much as exercises in poor methodology and circular reasoning.

It’s PC to believe in evolution as fact; really? So you don’t believe?

      • R0nin

Evolution is a theory, among other theories. Nothing more. Are you going to prove my point by declaring it as fact, even though that’s a statement of faith more than of science?

        • $24698634

You apparently don’t know what a scientific theory is.  It’s not a supposition or opinion without factual basis.  Gravity is called a theory too.

          • R0nin

This old argument? Evolution is a theory that attempts to explain what we see, but as such it cannot be proven– because we can’t observe it happen. We can’t do experiments which have a consistent outcome. So it remains a theory. Part of the problem is that some scientists and many believers both
            A. Reject any evidence that tends to disprove evolution, and
            B. Try to pass it off as a Law instead of a Theory.
Your calling Gravity a theory here is misleading. The fact that objects are attracted to the earth and fall when you drop them, is a fact, therefore it’s a Law. However, to explain _why_ this happens involves theories.
Evolution is a Theory, because it tries to provide an explanation for the specialization, diversity, etc. that we see around us. As such it cannot be proven. It’s not a Law, and it’s also not the only, or even the best, theory of “origins”.
Treating evolution like a law instead of a theory is what I was talking about when I mentioned “believing in evolution as a fact”.

There is no reason to take today’s liberals seriously. They should be ridiculed and then ignored at every opportunity. They’re little more than a pox upon the ideas and institutions of Western civilization.

    • Peyton

That would work, if only the media would cover the stupidity.

    • Marchpig

No, that’s what Conservatives are and have always been

      • Bill Gryan

Obstructing just about everything President Obama has initiated, not out of practicality because they thought is was bad policy but out of sheer bloody mindedness, reducing the US legislature to a laughing stock.

          • Silenttype78

            You are wrong about that.

Republicans- no – conservatives are opposed to his policy because of ideological differences not mindlessness.

Congress (originally limited to the House, though expanded to include the Senate ) represents the will of the people. They were elected to do exactly what they are doing.

If both houses were to shrug their shoulders and give in to a president’s every whim (such as was done during FDR’s twelve years) then the Congress would truly become a laughing stock…as it was following FDR’s death in his fourth term.

          • Benjamin Dover

The Obama regime is a criminal regime.

The Obama regime, for example, has supplied Mexican cartels with over 2,000 high-powered rifles. Another AK-47 was reported yesterday:

            http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-34222_162-57559809-10391739/fast-and-furious-gun-found-at-mexican-crime-scene/

Why would any civilized person compromise with a criminal regime like the Obama regime?

          • Marchpig

So by your logic, Reagan was too, Ollie North was his scapegoat

          • Benjamin Dover

Not at all. The Contras were fighting back against the communist Sandinistas. Providing weapons to freedom fighters is a noble endeavour.

The Obama regime, a criminal regime, has provided over 2,000 high-powered rifles to the Mexican drug cartels that are murdering Latinos throughout Mexico.

The recently discovered Fast and Furious AK-47, at another Mexico mass-murder scene is just another example of the criminal actions of the Obama regime:

          • Teresa Davis McCormick

Did Reagan give guns to Mexicans and then start talking about taking ours away? You’re an imbecile, I will pray for you.

I agree. I find it hard to believe that they have gotten as far as they have in society. Generally Darwin’s law takes care of the stupid.

      • Benjamin Dover

It used to. In a modern civilization, the foolish impulses the impel today’s liberals have far fewer consequences than what they would have had a century or two ago.

For example, AIDS would have killed far more liberals a century or two ago.

The lack of serious consequences associated with many things is one reason why liberals reject the idea of consequences.

Ultimately, however, the Gods of the Copybook Headings are never denied.

        • AMERICAN Kafir™(KAdams)

Yes, AIDS kills more than guns do, so let’s ban homosexual sex, since that’s the main cause of AIDS cases in America. We’ve already banned heroin, and we know that doesn’t work…

Good Lord, Loomis is proud to get away with talking about dildos; this guy writes a ‘paper’ about penis size preference…when did 14 year old boys start becoming college ‘professors’?

    • http://twitter.com/thetugboatphil TugboatPhil

      Sometime around the late 1970s.

The NRA is pretty much the ONLY organization to observe a period of mourning for the victims — so, of course, they get criticized for remaining silent.

  • TocksNedlog

For someone that teaches “evolutionary psychology,” it’s more than a little bit sad that Professor Miller has failed to advance beyond the basic liberal knee-jerk reaction of “any public expression of religious ideals must be ridiculed.”
Then again, not surprisingly, the crickets are a-chirpin’ up a storm while we await Miller’s denunciation of President Obama for invoking scripture during his speech in Newtown.

I have an issue with using “divine intervention” to explain how one child survived while many others did not.
I just think it is inappropriate to make a claim that God prevented the death of one and allowed the death of others.
If you believe that then you have to believe God chose to allow the others to die.
I cringe whenever I hear someone make such a statement,

    • auntgiddy

…ummmm…agree… but one is able to align oneself to good… which is a protection to mankind… but in this situation… to describe in this way can guilt the child that survives… which is not good…
