Ke$ha tweets about 'Die Young' being pulled from radio

The pop singer’s Top 40 hit “Die Young” was yanked from radio airwaves yesterday in response to the Newtown, Conn., school massacre. She took to Twitter earlier to express her sadness:

She also urged her fans to contribute to a Newtown-related charity:

We’re not sure what she means when she claims that she was “forced to” sing the song, on which she is listed as a co-writer. Maybe that’s her excuse for this verse:

Young hunks, taking shots
Stripping down to dirty socks
Music up, gettin’ hot
Kiss me, give me all you’ve got
It’s pretty obvious that you’ve got a crush
That magic in your pants, it’s making me blush

In any case, there’s considerable debate about whether it should have been pulled. What do you think?

    She’s still singing?

  • AJ_Olding

Its a song that came out well before the tragedy. It has nothing to do with this event and any sane person would miss any connection at all. If someone had showed up to the school a few days later blaring that song, yes that would have been a bit out of line, but pulling the song altogether is just ridiculous.

  • Alicia Layne

I read the lyrics. They have nothing to do with shooting anyone. I think people are going overboard

    • Ntr

Well, you know the whitebread liberals. Everything is responsible for the shooting but the shooter. Guns, violent video games, the NRA, Preppers…just to name a few.

  • anthonybgonzalez

    Forced to?

  • Ntr

What’s interesting is that she said she was “forced to” sing the lyrics/song. It’s doubtful she’ll elaborate though. With the way the music industry sells slop to the unthinking masses, it wouldn’t surprise me. Anything for that money.

  • Lord Foggybottom

This country has become pathetic and weak. We’re so terrified of hurting someone’s feelings that we’ll go completely out of our way not to offend them; so far out that we’ll start connecting dots that don’t even exits. THIS is what offends ME.

  • Bob Johnson

Haven’t heard her song, haven’t read the lyrics, so I only know what I’ve read in other comments. If no connection, is her tweet a way to draw attention to her song?

    • 1SkepticalChick

      Same thought here.

  • sleazyrider

Maybe this guy wanted to emulate the black panthers.???anyone remember the statement?..don’t think a pop singer had any influence.

  • EastValleyConservative

There was absolutely no reason to pull that song other than the fact that it’s complete crap. It has nothing to do with this massacre.

Well my friend believes she’s an Illuminati tool, so maybe they’re the ones that FORCED her to sing those lyrics.

” That magic in your pants..its making me blush”????? What utter garbage.

    • FlotsamSam

Wait, you don’t have magic in your pants? I agree with you… this definitely is not the music our parents listened to.

  • George Washington Mclintock

Good god, we need just one person in the country to tell the perpetually outraged crowd what they and the horse they rode in can do with themselves.

    Affected! not “Effected”

Sorry, my English teacher would shoot me if I didn’t point it out.

  • moonsbreath

Sounds like a PR move to get people to listen to a crappy song.

  • Lady_Clare

What horrifies me is that song was going up the charts. Watch the video. It’s not about “living life to the fullest.” It’s about living a life that courts STDs and overdoses, where sex is just another drug and people are just to be used for the high. And, of course, the police are the bad guys out to stop these fine young hedonists from having their fun by lining up as a SWAT team to shoot that candidate for America’s Sweetheart full of holes.

No, it’s not about Newtown, but it’s sickening all on its own.

  • John Pugh

effected? Please return your High School diploma to the school that accidentally gave it to you.

Forced to sing? Why is this talentless piece of garbage even relevant?

  • John Pugh

I’m embarrassed to say that I looked at the video, but I do have to ask, Did she give any credit to Michael Jackson and Madonna for the dance (if that is what they call it) moves-choreography? Is there no originality anymore?

  • chipndale

Write a song about living until we’re old and gray and I promise you reality will change into that. It’s called mind control or propaganda.

  • David Harrison

All that makeup, and she still ugly as a dog.

P.S. I apologize to all dogs.

  • JimmyJusticeUSA

I heard this song twice today on 2 different stations both owned by the biggest radio company. So i’m thinking the “pulling” of this song wasnt exactly full scale
